Transmigrated as the Disabled Alpha Wife of the Black Moonlight and She Said She Loves Me - Chapter 48.2
Huo Jianan searched four rest areas without finding Ruan Nianning. Just then, she received a call from Meng Xien.
“Jianan, where are you? Did you take care of the emergency?”
“Sister Meng, I’m just calling to let you know I’ve left Changbin. Xiaoman is with me, so don’t worry.”
“What?!” Meng Xien exclaimed, startled. “Where did you go? You just returned to Changbin, and now you’re leaving again?”
Huo Jianan had no choice but to explain, “I got into an argument with Nianning. I said something that upset her, and she left the production team. I’m going to find her and properly apologize.”
“Where are you going to look for her?” Meng Xien asked.
“I don’t know yet. I’ll come back once I find her.”
Meng Xien: “……”
One stormed off in a fit of anger, while the other frantically searched like a headless fly. For a moment, it was hard to tell who was crazier—Jianan or Nianning?
“No, Jianan, where exactly are you? Don’t make Aunt Xu and me worry like this!” Meng Xien’s voice grew urgent.
Huo Jianan played up the original character’s unstable temperament. “Sister Meng, do you doubt my ability to find Nianning? Or are you blaming me for arguing with her? But I never knew she’d avoid me like this! If I had, I would never have said those things.”
Meng Xien’s voice trembled with panic on the other end of the line. “No, that’s not what I meant. It’s normal for married couples to argue. What kind of couple never fights? Jianan, you’ll definitely find Nianning. I believe in you.”
Huo Jianan pressed her advantage. “You absolutely can’t tell Grandmother. If she blames Nianning, Nianning will be even less willing to see me, and I won’t be able to find her. And if I can’t find her, I won’t go back.”
Meng Xien gasped, fearing Huo Jianan’s temper might explode. “I won’t tell Aunt Xu. Just focus on finding Nianning. Remember to call me—please call me—and answer my calls. Understand?”
“Understood. I’ll call you, and I won’t ignore your calls.”
“Good. I won’t bother you while you’re searching for Nianning.”
Huo Jianan couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Meng Xien’s overly cautious tone. The original body’s prickly personality had made life uncomfortable for her and made everyone around her walk on eggshells. Even the original must have found it suffocating, deep down.
At 6 PM, they arrived in Yuqing. Both Huo Jianan and Xiaoman were utterly bewildered. Yuqing wasn’t as large as Changbin, but it still had a population of six million.
Huo Jianan felt for the first time that she was being foolishly infatuated. Even if Nianning was in Yuqing right now, where on earth would she go to find her?
“Young Miss, where should we go?”
After a moment’s thought, Huo Jianan chose Yuqing City’s most luxurious hotel. “Let’s go there for now.”
That evening, she sent Ruan Nianning another text: [ Nianning, where are you? Please, please tell me. I’m so worried about you. ]
As expected, it went unanswered, like a stone thrown into the sea.
Lying in bed, Huo Jianan’s mind churned with anxiety. Initially, she worried about Ruan Nianning, overwhelmed by guilt and self-reproach. But then she reasoned that if Nianning could drive back to Yuqing, she probably wasn’t in a state of despair. She hadn’t seen any car accidents on the way, so Nianning must have arrived safely.
Late that night, as Huo Jianan lay tossing and turning, she received a message from Meng Xien: [ Jianan, is everything alright on your end? ]
This time, Meng Xien didn’t ask where she was.
Everything’s fine. I’ve already checked into the hotel. Xiaoman is with me, so you don’t need to worry, Sister Meng.
On the other end of the call, Meng Xien let out a soft sigh and hung up.
An arm as pale and delicate as lotus root wrapped around her waist, and a soft body embraced her from behind. “Still worried about President Huo?” Min Jiru murmured.
“Mm-hmm. She’s not very mobile, and she left without a word. Thank goodness Xiaoman was with her. Xiaoman secretly told me they were in Yuqing; otherwise, I would have been frantic.”
Min Jiru leaned against her back and offered comfort. “Don’t worry too much. Even though President Huo has mobility issues, she’s clever, and with Xiaoman by her side, she’ll be fine.”
Meng Xien sighed again. “You don’t understand. She went to find Ruan Nianning.”
Min Jiru found this odd and asked with a smile, “Superstar Ruan is President Huo’s wife. If President Huo had a quarrel with her wife, isn’t it natural to go looking for her?”
Meng Xien lowered her head, long lashes casting shadows over her eyelids. The worry in her eyes deepened. “You don’t understand… you just don’t understand…”
“Xien, don’t worry too much. At least you know President Huo is safe, and Xiaoman is taking care of her. If anything happens, Xiaoman will contact you.”
Min Jiru’s lips glided across the smooth skin, lingering on Meng Xien’s shoulder and collarbone, playfully leaving a trail of small red marks.
Meng Xien gripped the hand that kept caressing her shoulder. “If I weren’t afraid that Aunt Xu would notice if I weren’t at the company, I would have gone to Yuqing to find Jianan. I can’t help but worry until I bring her back.”
Min Jiru pouted. “Good thing President Huo is an Alpha, married to a superstar Omega like Ruan Nianning. You’re always so fixated on finding her—hmph! I might get jealous.”
Long, slender fingers caressed her face, their touch varying in pressure. “Stop being jealous. The only person I like is you.”
Min Jiru gazed at her with large, dewy eyes, a smile playing on her lips. The unusual brightness in her eyes made Meng Xien’s breath catch and her throat go dry.
“Xien,” a soft, velvety murmur escaped those alluring red lips, “stay with me tonight.”
“No, I can’t. Jianan isn’t home, so I need to go back and keep Aunt Xu company.” Meng Xien gripped her fair wrist, leaned forward, and kissed her glossy lips, hungrily licking and sucking. “Come back with me, okay? Aunt Xu won’t mind.”
Their heated breaths mingled as they kissed, devouring each other’s sweetness, swallowing every word.
In the quiet, late-night room, the only sound was the passionate, heated sound of their kisses.
“I’m just…” Min Jiru’s breath came in ragged gasps. She wanted to say, “I’m just a Beta.” But surrounded by the sweet, intoxicating scent of happiness, her mind turned mushy. She didn’t want to bring it up, wanting only to drown in the dizzying bliss of Xien’s kisses.
“Just what?”
When their lips parted, Min Jiru’s gaze was unfocused, her voice soft and silk-like. “I… I’m not ready.”
“What are you worried about? I don’t care about what happened before.” Meng Xien’s scalding lips trailed down Min Jiru’s slender neck, tender kisses intertwining with fiery passion. “I love you, Minmin. I love you.”
Later that night, Meng Xien got out of bed, dressed, and bent down to tuck the blanket around the person still asleep.
“You’re leaving?”
“I’m sorry. I’m worried about Aunt Xu. I’ll probably have to stay with her for the next few days.”
“Mm. I hope she finds her Madam soon.”
Meng Xien kissed her flushed cheek. “Get some rest. We’ll see each other at the company tomorrow.”
Meng Xien smiled and kissed her on the lips. “Go to sleep, my princess.”
Min Jiru smiled warmly, her eyes crinkling. “Drive carefully.”
“I will. Oh, and since Jianan won’t be at the office tomorrow, you can come in later.”
Min Jiru’s smile widened. “Mm.”
Early the next morning, Huo Jianan sat up from the hotel bed, her hair in disarray. Having barely slept, her eyes were bloodshot. She grabbed her phone and called Film Empress Song Shiyu.
The phone rang twice before being answered. “President Huo?”
“Sister Song, I’m terribly sorry for disturbing you. Here’s the thing: Nianning and I had a small disagreement, and she stormed off. I think she might have gone to her grandmother’s house. Do you know where she lives?”
Song Shiyu was Ruan Nianning’s closest friend, and the two shared practically everything. Perhaps Ruan Nianning had mentioned her grandmother’s address to the Film Empress.
Film Empress Song was visibly startled. “Nianning isn’t in Changbin? She’s been acting strange on set these past few days—distracted and exhausted. Are you and Nianning both alright?”
“We just had a little argument. Nianning didn’t understand at first and left. I’m worried she’ll overthink things alone, so I want to find her quickly. Do you know her grandmother’s address?”
There was a long pause on the other end of the line. Song Shiyu said, “I’m sorry, I can’t remember right now. Let me think, and I’ll let you know as soon as I do.”
Feeling slightly disappointed, Huo Jianan maintained her politeness. “Okay, thank you, Sister Song.”
Luo Bufei was preparing breakfast in the kitchen. She carried out two plates of sunny-side-up eggs, accompanied by toast and sausages. After arranging them on the table, she went back to fetch a bowl of salad. Finally, she removed her apron and called out to Song Shiyu in the bedroom, “Song Song, breakfast is ready!”
Song Shiyu, still holding her phone in a daze, mumbled absently in response.
“What’s wrong? Didn’t someone call you this early in the morning, did they?”
“President Huo just called.”
Luo Bufei’s eyes lit up. “Is it about the new business development project? I haven’t finished it yet. I can push harder the next few days and should be ready soon. Then I can review it one more time and present the detailed plan to her.”
“That’s not urgent right now. President Huo has more pressing matters and probably won’t have time to review your proposal anytime soon.”
“What’s going on?”
“Nianning stormed off in a huff. She probably had an argument with President Huo.” Song Shiyu looked worried. “I noticed she’d been acting strange these past few days. I should have asked her about it earlier. She wouldn’t have run off in such a fit.”
Luo Bufei smiled. “That’s just Sister Nianning’s temper. When she’s worked up, no amount of persuasion will help. Don’t worry too much. Sister Nianning is strong and won’t get taken advantage of out there.”
Song Shiyu’s worry deepened. “This is different. Otherwise, President Huo wouldn’t have called me.”
“What did she say?”
“She asked if I knew where Sister Nianning’s grandmother lives. I remember Nianning mentioning her grandmother before.” Song Shiyu looked frustrated. “But I just can’t recall the details.”
“I know!” Luo Bufei interjected. “Sister Nianning’s grandmother is from Yuqing. She said her grandmother is an expert at weaving bamboo, and the village’s bamboo products are quite famous locally. It’s called Xiyan Village. Besides bamboo crafts, they’re also known for their tea.”
“I was reading nearby while you were chatting. I heard bits of your conversation. When Sister Nianning mentioned it was a famous bamboo crafts village, I looked it up online and found out it’s Xiyan Village.”
“How do you remember everything so clearly?”
“Song Song, your Feifei here has a naturally sharp mind. Now, can we finally go eat?”
Luo Bufei pulled Song Shiyu out of the room, then pressed her shoulders down into a chair. “Sister Xiao Tang will be here to pick you up in fifteen minutes. Perfect timing for us to have breakfast together.”
Song Shiyu dialed Huo Jianan’s number. “President Huo, Nianning’s grandmother lives in Xiyan Village in Yuqing City, famous for its bamboo crafts.”
Huo Jianan expressed deep gratitude. “Thank you! Thank you so much!”
Luo Bufei munched on toast, chuckling. “Who knew such a big boss like President Huo would have to scour the world for his wife? Running away from home sounds so cool! I want to run away from home too!”
Song Shiyu playfully tapped her with chopsticks. “What’s a little kid like you learning about running away from home for?”
Luo Bufei covered her head. “I’m not a little kid! I’m 22 and will graduate from university this July!”
“You’re still a kid to me.”
Luo Bufei paused. “But yesterday in bed, you didn’t call me that. You called me…”
“Okay, okay,” Luo Bufei said, her eyes sparkling as she gave a charming, narrowed-eyed smile. “Sister, don’t be angry.”
Huo Jianan pinpointed Xiyan Village on the map, called Xiaoman, and drove straight there.
The villagers stopped to stare at the fancy car with a Changbin license plate, whispering in their dialect: “A Changbin plate! A real luxury car! This person must be rich!”
Huo Jianan and Xiaoman couldn’t understand the local dialect. She rolled down the window and asked an elderly woman passing by, “Grandma, do you know where Ruan Nianning lives?”
The woman waved her hands, indicating she didn’t understand.
Huo Jianan tried again, this time asking a middle-aged man, “Excuse me, where do the Ruan families live in the village?” She remembered that Ruan Nianning had taken her grandmother’s surname later in life.
The man understood. “Ruan is a newer surname here. The Zhangs are the main family. Keep driving straight ahead. At the fork, turn left and go all the way to the end.”
Huo Jianan thanked him. The car slowly made its way through the village. As expected, the place was famous for its bamboo crafts. Every household displayed baskets, stools, chairs, and even bamboo-crafted grasshoppers and butterflies.
Beside the bridge, a red off-road vehicle with a Changbin license plate was parked.
Huo Jianan spotted the vehicle and exclaimed excitedly, “This is it! This is it! This must be Sister Nianning’s car!”
The footbridge was too narrow for vehicles to pass. Xiaoman parked next to the red car and helped Huo Jianan out of the vehicle.
Two of the four households were weaving bamboo at their doorsteps. When they saw a wealthy person in a wheelchair descend from the luxury vehicle, they craned their necks to get a better look.
Huo Jianan, feeling their stares, forced a smile and struck up a conversation. “Hello! This is my first time in Xiyan Village. The scenery is beautiful!”
One household asked, “Are you from Changbin?”
“Yes, I’m from Changbin.”
“What brings you here? You don’t look like a tourist.”
“No, I’m here to find my family.”
The other household, noticing she was heading toward the left house, looked up and said, “That house is empty now. They moved to the city long ago.”
“Thank you.” Huo Jianan changed direction, heading toward the remaining house on the right, which was also the farthest back.
Huo Jianan’s heart stirred. “Did Grandmother Ruan’s daughter pass away? How did she die?”
“I’m not sure. It was many years ago. I think it was a car accident overseas, caused by a wealthy person. Her son-in-law came to fetch her afterward, and he’s also in Changbin now.”
Huo Jianan was startled. So Ruan Nianning’s mother had been killed in a car accident. That wealthy person was likely Huo Zhujun. Coincidentally, during those years, Huo Zhujun had been living abroad with Huo Jianan alone.
Seeing Huo Jianan knock on Grandmother Ruan’s door, the neighbor casually asked the household next door, “Did her granddaughter return?”
“I think she came back yesterday. I saw the light on in the house last night. Didn’t you see the car?” The neighbor nodded toward the red sedan by the small bridge. “That red one.”
Huo Jianan knocked several times, but there was no response. They circled around to the back and peered through the windows, but the house was empty.
Huo Jianan’s heart tightened with worry. According to the neighbors’ conversation, Ruan Nianning had indeed returned last night. But now, with no one answering the door and the house seemingly empty, she wondered what the situation inside might be.
Xiaoman hummed in acknowledgment. Spotting the drain pipe leading down from the second floor, she nimbly climbed up it, her movements agile and swift. Perched on the windowsill, she peered inside.
Suddenly, Xiaoman whipped her head around, panic in her voice. “Young Miss! I see the Young Madam! She’s wearing a light beige coat! She’s collapsed! She’s lying on the floor!”
Huo Jianan’s heart lurched. “Quick! Find a way in—break the window if you have to!”
Xiaoman glanced back, picked up a brick, and with a few forceful strikes, shattered the window. She slipped through the opening.
