Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 52
Chapter 52
Jiang He was taken to the Jiang family’s private hospital. The old man, in his seventies, personally guarded her bedside. Dressed in a suit, his back was ramrod straight, and his head of white hair still gave off a powerful aura.
The experts reported the consultation results to him with trepidation. He listened silently, with his lips pursed. His tense nerves only relaxed a little when the experts announced that she was “out of danger.”
“How long will it take to recover?”
“She was found in time. With proper care, she should be able to recover within a week.”
The old man nodded. The doctor said a few more things to note, and he waved his hand, telling them to leave.
In the hospital room, the assistant stood like a soldier on standby.
The old man’s expression was serious. He called out, “Xiao Li.”
The assistant looked up under immense pressure.
“You personally go and find the mastermind behind this whole thing. I, Jiang Yiye, will see this through to the end, no matter who the person is!”
“Yes, General Manager Jiang!”
“The public relations and legal departments will work together to eliminate the online rumors and sue the Cen family for spreading falsehoods. I see that Cen Mingyu has gone crazy for money in the past two years. He can sacrifice his own child, but he dares to target my precious granddaughter. I’ll show him!”
“Also, keep a close eye on the Si family and see if they need any help. Give them all the support they need!”
“Yes, General Manager Jiang!”
After giving his instructions, Jiang Yiye waved his hand. “Go now!”
The assistant left.
Jiang He had actually woken up at the scene, but her throat was so hoarse she couldn’t make a sound. She tried to communicate with Zhang Yi, but when she heard the old man’s hurried footsteps, she was so scared she pretended to pass out.
Jiang Yiye’s heart had been hanging in suspense, so he didn’t pay much attention to the details. At this moment, he felt a sense of relief. He leaned over slightly, wanting to show some affection to his precious granddaughter, whom he hadn’t seen for many years, while she was asleep.
But just as he reached out his hand, he noticed a slight tremor in her eyelids, as if she had been awake all along.
He withdrew his hand. His slightly hunched back straightened. He said in a cold voice, “General Manager Jiang, if you’re awake, stop pretending!”
Jiang He: “…”
She slightly lifted her eyelids. Her voice was hoarse and soft as she called out, “Grandpa.”
Jiang Yiye’s face was as long as a brinjal. He said sarcastically, “Oh, please. General Manager Jiang, you’re a big celebrity online now, the head of the great Jiang Corporation. I can’t bear to be called ‘Grandpa’ by you!”
He was clearly holding a grudge. Ever since this little rascal took over the smart IoT business, he had kept a record of her every move. The little notebook was now completely filled.
Jiang He felt a chill in her heart. She smiled with a cheeky expression.
Jiang Yiye snorted and asked, “How do you feel, General Manager Jiang? Is there anything uncomfortable? I’ll call a doctor for you?”
Jiang He: “…”
“Grandpa~”
She was being a little playful, her voice hoarse, soft, and fragile.
Jiang Yiye’s heart melted. This child was the one he cherished the most but couldn’t spoil too much.
Back then, her parents were busy with work. On the day she was born, her father was on a business trip in another city. When he heard the news, he rushed back, but there was an accident on the way. Her mother received the news just before going into the delivery room and never made it out of the operating room. The doctor had to save her from her mother’s womb.
He had raised her from a little baby to a grown woman. He also wanted her to grow up healthy and happy like a child from an ordinary family, but she was not an ordinary child after all. She carried the future of the entire Jiang Corporation on her shoulders. So, from a young age, he was exceptionally strict with her and devoted almost all his energy to her. As a result, their relationship was relatively distant. Jiang He only had respect for him, not love. So this “Grandpa” truly warmed his heart.
Jiang Yiye suppressed his emotions and cleared his throat. The stern look on his face unconsciously softened a little.
Jiang He seized the opportunity to tug on his suit jacket. “Grandpa, don’t be mad anymore!”
Her skin was delicate and fair. At this moment, her slender fingers tugging on his jacket were like a little girl who hadn’t grown up yet, making him want to hold her hand. The old man hesitated for a few seconds. In the end, he said in a cold tone, “Don’t try that with me!”
Jiang He let go and giggled. A hint of a fawning expression was on her youthful face.
Jiang Yiye maintained his composure.
Jiang He observed his mood and asked tentatively, “Grandpa, how is Si Jing?”
Jiang Yiye became serious. “You have the nerve to ask? You can make a mess for yourself, but you also involved the Si family’s child. Do you know how much trouble you’ve caused me this time?”
Jiang He apologized. “I’m sorry!”
Jiang Yiye turned his head to look at her, paused for a few seconds, and said, “She’s out of danger, General Manager Jiang, rest assured!”
Jiang He said “Oh.” Just then, her stomach grumbled at the perfect time. She reached out and touched her empty stomach.
Jiang Yiye saw everything. He pressed the call button, and the medical staff rushed over immediately.
He instructed the experts in their work clothes, “Keep a close eye on her. If anything goes wrong, I will hold you all accountable!”
“Yes, yes, General Manager Jiang!”
“Also, don’t let her have her phone. Report any situation to me immediately!”
“Okay, General Manager Jiang!”
After giving his instructions, General Manager Jiang walked out. He remembered clearly that this child’s favorite thing to eat when she was little was the pork rib soup made by their auntie at home. Now that she was sick, he wanted to make it for her himself.
Jiang Yiye left, and a few medical staff members stayed in the room, staring at her without blinking.
Jiang He glanced at everyone present and said with a smile, “Doctors, you’ve worked hard. If you have anything to do, please go and do it. Don’t worry about me. I’ll call you if I need anything.”
They all said in unison, “General Manager Jiang, we’re not busy!”
Jiang He: “…”
Ten minutes later, she finally realized that the subordinates who followed her grandpa were truly a group of loyal fighters. Their loyalty was simply off the charts.
Cen Xia received the message around four in the morning. She was sitting on the bed with a sleepless Jiwanching, telling her a story to help her sleep. When her phone rang, she quickly went to check it.
“This is Jiang He. I’m so sorry for causing you trouble. I’m currently under house arrest at the hospital by my grandpa and probably won’t be able to get out for a long time. Tell Jiwanching to pay close attention to her company’s situation. The old man is serious this time. Don’t worry about the rumors about the two of us online. The old man will handle everything. You just need to take care of your own business! (No need to reply. I’m fine now. I’ll recover in a week or two. Si Jing is also out of danger.)”
After reading the message, Cen Xia excitedly kissed Jiwanching on the cheek. “General Manager Jiang is okay, Sister. She’s okay.”
Jiwanching also caught a glimpse of the message from the corner of her eye. Her nose tingled, and tears fell.
A year ago, at the birthday party, someone had put a substance in the wine. The poisonous liquid had slid down her throat. No one could understand that despair and pain more than she could. But now, Mrs. Ji was locked up, Ji Teng was under police surveillance, and the person who had poisoned her was obvious.
Cen Xia hugged her tightly, her cold skin against Jiwanching’s face. “Sister, don’t be sad. General Manager Jiang said that her grandpa has already found people to handle the online rumors. We just need to take care of our own business. Sister, you have to stand tall. That old man Jiang sounds very powerful. Is he difficult to deal with?”
Jiwanching’s emotions were a little swayed by her.
Although the Jiang Corporation wasn’t involved in the tourism industry, it was still one of the top companies in the country. If they were serious, they could even match the Ji Corporation just by throwing money at it. What’s more, the company was now at the center of a storm, and its internal funds were already hard to manage.
Cen Xia saw that she was thinking, and she seized the opportunity to act spoiled and divert her attention again. “What should we do? Sister, you’ve just taken over the company. You still have to protect Xiaxia and stand up for Xiaxia!”
Jiwanching sniffled and looked up at her.
Cen Xia’s brows were furrowed, looking very worried.
She raised her hand and touched her face. “Xiaxia…”
Jiwanching’s throat rolled. She wanted to say more words, but in the end, she just managed to raise her hand with difficulty.
“Xiaxia, don’t be afraid. Sister won’t let our efforts during this time be in vain. Sister will protect Xiaxia.”
Cen Xia lowered her head and kissed her, muttering, “Sister is so good. Let’s reward Sister with a sweet kiss!”
Tears rolled from the corners of Jiwanching’s eyes. She wrapped her arms around Cen Xia’s neck for a deeper kiss.
Cen Xia held her head and kissed her passionately. Jiwanching’s mind went blank, and her breathing almost stopped. But it was only at moments like this that her fear of loss would lessen a little.
After some commotion, it was already dawn. Cen Xia simply carried her to wash up. From noon yesterday until now, Jiwanching hadn’t had a single drop of water or a grain of rice. She wanted to get her ready early and find a way to get her to eat something.
After washing up, she pushed her wheelchair to the dressing table and applied moisturizer and serum for her. She was thinking about how to make her, with a high fever, have a little appetite.
“What time do you have to go to work today, Sister?” Cen Xia asked.
Jiwanching was tilting her head up, enjoying the facial massage. Her hands were blocked below, making it difficult for her to move. She tried to move her throat.
Cen Xia noticed but pretended not to. She continued to help her with her makeup. “If Sister has time, let’s make breakfast together. Last time, I said I’d teach you how to make a cake, but we never found the right time. When you’re done with your company’s business, we’ll make lots of beautiful cakes together to celebrate your success!”
When the cake was mentioned, Jiwanching remembered her mother. When she was little, her mother loved to take her to the kitchen to play with dough. She was very serious about her work, and even with a child around, she wouldn’t get distracted. Jiwanching looked up several times while playing with the dough and saw her mother focused on kneading the dough. She had wanted to talk to her mother but was suddenly afraid of disturbing her, so she just played with the dough in her own hands quietly…
“Mom… also… liked… to make… cake.”
Unconsciously, she spoke. Cen Xia’s hand, holding the eyebrow pencil, froze. She exclaimed, “Really? Auntie also liked to make cakes?”
Jiwanching rolled her throat frequently, spitting out words one by one: “She… took me… to the kitchen, gave me… a piece of dough… and then… didn’t care… just got busy… I was… alone.”
This was the most she had ever spoken. Cen Xia’s hands were shaking with excitement. She wanted to kiss her and reward her, but she also wanted her to try and say a few more words, so she desperately held back and said in a teasing tone, “Auntie was so bad, using dough to fool Sister!”
Jiwanching nodded slightly and “Mhmm-ed” in a wronged tone.
Cen Xia laughed and said, “Then I’ll play with dough with Sister and make you some chicken soup wontons, okay?”
Jiwanching nodded rapidly. She also said four more words: “Xiaxia… is the best!”
Cen Xia finally couldn’t hold back. She put down the eyebrow pencil and kissed her pale lips.
