Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 39
Chapter 39
Ji Yanqing couldn’t wait for a response and was about to use her key to open the door herself when Cen Xia came out.
Her tone was cold. “Whatever you have to say, come inside.”
Ji Yanqing entered with a sullen face, and Cen Xia followed behind her.
Inside the room, there was a faint, indescribable scent of intimacy from their recent antics. Jiwanching was propped up against the headboard, her face flushed.
Ji Yanqing glanced at the laundry hamper, where some underwear was half-hidden. Her brow furrowed slightly. She turned her head and gave Cen Xia a sideways look. “My sister and I have some private things to talk about. Why are you standing there? Get out!”
Cen Xia looked up, about to say something, but Jiwanching beat her to it. She looked at Ji Yanqing with a cold expression and quickly raised her hands, gesturing in the air.
—”Cen Xia is my wife. This is our home. You’re an outsider, coming into my house and shouting at my wife. The one who should get out is you, Shaoyu!”
Ji Yanqing’s face went pale with shock. She stood there, stunned for a long time.
Jiwanching raised her hand again.
—”I told you last time that the conflict between us is a matter between just the two of us. You don’t learn. You’ve challenged my limits again and again. Let’s settle the score for the slap you gave her now.”
Ji Yanqing’s eyes widened. She looked at her nervously. “Jiwanching, what do you mean?”
Jiwanching didn’t answer. She took out her phone, and her finger slid down her contact list.
Ji Yanqing completely panicked. “Jiwanching, what are you going to do?”
Jiwanching ignored her. She opened a conversation and quickly typed out a string of words.
Ji Yanqing lunged forward to grab her phone, but the message had already been sent.
Jiwanching threw the phone to the side and looked at her with a deep, piercing gaze.
Ji Yanqing’s emotions were a little out of control. She lowered her voice and said angrily, “Jiwanching, you’re so ruthless! All these years of friendship, and you’ve gone this far for an outsider!”
Jiwanching raised her hand and repeated her gesture.
—”Let me emphasize this again: Cen Xia is not an outsider. She is my lover, the person I love and care about most in this world!”
Ji Yanqing’s fists clenched. Veins popped out on her forehead. The burning rage filled her already fiery eyes with a crimson hue, as if she was about to lunge and choke the other person to death.
Cen Xia instinctively stepped forward and stood in front of Jiwanching.
Jiwanching reached out, pulled her by the arm, and made her sit on the edge of the bed.
She looked at Ji Yanqing again, a faint smile on her lips, and continued to gesture.
—”Also, Shaoyu. For all these years, did you really think I believed you had any feelings for me? You were just unwilling to let go of something you couldn’t have, so you and your mother conspired to keep me in a cage like a bird. You didn’t let me die, and half the reason wasn’t because we were childhood friends, but because of my position as the future heir of the Ji family. Shaoyu, your love is truly too cheap. Go give it to someone else. I’m not interested!”
Ji Yanqing was so angry her teeth were about to shatter. After a long pause, she managed to pull out a cold smile. “That’s right, Jiwanching. Since you think so little of me, I have a secret. Do you want to hear it?”
Jiwanching looked away, showing little interest.
Ji Yanqing, with a sneer, continued, “You’ve always wanted to know how your mother died, haven’t you? I can tell you now. If it wasn’t for you, she would have had a chance to survive!”
Jiwanching’s heart thumped at the word “survive.” Her body wavered slightly, and she instinctively gripped Cen Xia’s hand tightly.
Cen Xia reached out, hugged her, and rested her head on her shoulder. Her soft lips brushed against Jiwanching’s ear. “It’s okay, Sister. Don’t worry. I’m here.”
Ji Yanqing’s smile was horrifying. She asked, “Do you know why, Jiwanching?”
Jiwanching met her gaze, wanting to get an answer from her.
Ji Yanqing spoke slowly and deliberately, “It’s because you were in my mother’s hands, Jiwanching. Your mother was a very smart and strong woman. Even though she was being threatened, she managed to win a chance to escape.”
She paused for a second. “Luckily, in the last few seconds, my mother was on a video call with your father. You were lying by that well, pointing at the sparkling water below, and you naively asked, ‘Auntie Shi, the water is so deep, are there really frogs at the bottom of the well?'”
In that instant, Jiwanching’s memory was forced back to when she was six years old. It was spring, and her parents were on a business trip. They had left her at Shi Ranying’s house.
The sun was shining that day. Shi Ranying took her to a remote farmhouse to play. There was a dry well in the backyard. It was half a meter deep, and the opening was small, but the sunlight made the water look very deep.
Shi Ranying sat with her by the well, sunbathing, and told her the story of the frog at the bottom of the well. She told her there was also a frog in this well. Jiwanching didn’t believe it. She lay down to look, and asked curiously, “Auntie Shi, the water is so deep. Are there really frogs at the bottom of the well?”
Shi Ranying smiled and said, “Auntie doesn’t know. Do you want to go down and see, Qingqing?”
She was excited to try but was a little worried. She asked the adult again, “Can I? The water is so deep. Will I drown if I go down, Qingqing?”
The two of them talked about it for a long time, and finally, Shi Ranying held her over the well playfully and said, “Qingqing, I’m going to let go!”
She screamed in fear, “Ah, no, no, Auntie Shi, no…”
The vivid memory matched Ji Yanqing’s description. Ji Yanqing chuckled softly. “Do you know, Jiwanching? In that dangerous video, your father only looked at your mother once. Then, she resolutely stepped on the gas pedal and sank from the bridge!”
She said, “A woman who can’t swim, sinking in such deep river water, and her husband just watched her drown and die without even a thought of saving her. How much did he hate her!”
Cen Xia held Jiwanching tightly, desperately.
Jiwanching’s heart ached. She coughed violently, and a mouthful of blood splattered onto Cen Xia’s sleeve.
Cen Xia freed a hand and quickly patted her back to help her breathe, repeating her name over and over. “Jiwanching, hold on. You still have me. Hold on, Jiwanching!”
Ji Yanqing looked at the chaotic scene. A sense of morbid pleasure grew in her gloomy smile. She finally burst into a fit of insane laughter.
Jiwanching’s mind was filled with countless images of her mother’s tragic drowning. She was so distressed she couldn’t breathe.
Ji Yanqing continued to mock her with words. “How touching, Jiwanching. Your mother was thinking of her child even as she died!”
Cen Xia comforted her for a while, but finally, she couldn’t take it anymore. She laid her down on the pillow, covered her with a blanket, and slowly stood up, her black eyes fixed on Ji Yanqing.
Ji Yanqing was startled by her gaze. Then, her words turned colder. “Don’t look at me like that. She’s my cultivated white rose. Even if she withers, I’ll trample her under my feet. I won’t let trash like you have her!”
Cen Xia paused for two seconds and said, in a flat tone, “What did you say?”
Ji Yanqing’s mind short-circuited. She didn’t understand the meaning of her words.
Cen Xia picked up the metal laptop from the bedside table. Her voice was still without emotion. “Say it again.”
Ji Yanqing finally realized, but there was no fear in her expression. She chuckled and pointed to her head. “Go ahead! Hit me here! Hit me hard!”
Cen Xia walked over slowly, raised the laptop in her hand, and prepared to smash it down.
A hint of clarity returned to Jiwanching’s eyes. In that instant, she used all her strength, her broken voice hoarsely screaming four words: “Xiaxia, no!”
Cen Xia’s arm, swinging in the air, hesitated for a few seconds. She turned her head to look at her.
Jiwanching was crying and shaking her head, her thin lips forming unclear words. “Xiaxia, please… listen…”
At that moment, Cen Xia’s tears fell. She finally let go, and with a clang, the metal laptop hit the floor.
…
When Ji Yanqing left the villa, she was in a daze. The night was windy. Xiao Wu came forward with a coat, wanting to put it on her. Ji Yanqing violently pushed her away. “Get lost! Don’t touch me!”
Xiao Wu stumbled and nearly fell. After she finally regained her balance, she took the coat in her hand and stepped forward to put it on Ji Yanqing.
She had her own stubbornness. No matter how crazy and deranged this person was in front of her, in her heart, she was still the righteous and brave little princess Shaoyu who stood up for the weak.
Years ago, when her mother worked for the Shao family, she was cornered and bullied by other children because of her shabby clothes. Shaoyu picked up some stones from the ground and chased them away. In the end, she even knelt down and blew on her scraped knees. Xiao Wu would never forget that Shaoyu.
Later, as she grew up, she studied and worked hard to save money for various classes. Their social statuses were miles apart. She learned to fight for her, staying by her side and watching her go through all the hardships, little by little, turning from a kind child into a complete lunatic.
Now, she had no right to stop her, nor could she. She could only stay by her side, ready to go through fire and water for her without a second thought.
Ji Yanqing was in a frenzy for a while, then she crouched on the ground, hugging herself tightly, and muttered repeatedly, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Jiwanching. I didn’t mean it. I love you. I don’t want to see you with anyone else. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that to you…”
As she spoke, she started slapping herself hard on the face. “I deserve to die. I really deserve to die…”
Xiao Wu tried to stop her, comforting her over and over. “Madam, it’s not your fault. You just love Miss Ji. There’s nothing wrong with loving someone. Please don’t do this. Don’t do this to yourself!”
Hearing this, Ji Yanqing suddenly grabbed her hand, her nails digging into her flesh. She looked at her with bloodshot eyes. “You also think there’s nothing wrong with loving someone, don’t you? I didn’t mean it. I just love her! You know that, don’t you?”
Xiao Wu nodded frantically. “Yes, the madam just loves Miss Ji. The madam did nothing wrong!”
Ji Yanqing took a sharp breath, sobbing uncontrollably. “When my mother imprisoned her last time and didn’t let her use the restroom, I protected her, right? When she was surrounded by reporters at the company and couldn’t get away, I was the one who helped her, right?”
She released her grip on Xiao Wu’s hand and started counting on her fingers. “You see, my mother tried to harm her so many times, and which time wasn’t I there to stop her?”
Xiao Wu didn’t say anything, just kept nodding frantically.
Ji Yanqing suddenly grabbed her by the wrist.
“That day of the car accident, when I found out afterward that my mother was trying to kill her, my heart was in my throat. I was even scared awake at night from nightmares. I love her so much. How could I ever harm her? I just wanted to keep her by my side, to be able to see her and talk to her when I missed her. It doesn’t matter that she doesn’t like me. But why did she have to fall for someone else? Why did she have to fall for someone else, Xiao Wu?”
Xiao Wu was speechless. Her bleeding hand rested on Ji Yanqing’s. Ji Yanqing suddenly pulled her fingers away and tightly gripped her own arms. Her nails were long, digging into her flesh, and blood quickly started to ooze out.
The night was very dark, and the bloodstains were hard to see.
She dug her nails in hard, all the way to the bone, and only then did she feel a slight sense of pleasure.
A minute later, the woman suddenly got her emotions under control. She stood up abruptly as if nothing had happened. Pointing at the car across the way, she said in a condescending tone, “What are you standing there for? Go drive!”
