Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 26
Chapter 26
Ji Wanqing knew Jiang He. She was Old Master Jiang’s most beloved granddaughter, a prodigy since she was a child. At less than 14 years old, she was sent abroad to be groomed as an heir. After nearly a decade, she should be around 24 years old now. It was uncertain if she had graduated from college, but one thing was for sure: she was definitely the youngest Chief Operating Officer in the domestic internet industry.
To be targeted by her at this crucial moment for Zhi Cheng Technology meant they were in for some trouble.
Ji Wanqing took the remote call around 4 p.m. The other party requested that all members of the Zhi Cheng team turn on their cameras, but she herself did not. After joining the meeting, she only greeted Ji Wanqing, calling out, “Miss Ji!”
Ji Wanqing nodded. Just as she was about to type, the other party said directly, “Is Miss Ji being so perfunctory? You’re not even going to say a word!”
The message Ji Wanqing sent flashed in the chat box: “Hello, Miss Jiang.”
Jiang He was clearly not satisfied. She spoke bluntly, “Does Miss Ji usually type to assign tasks to her employees?”
Tang Shaoyun explained, “I apologize, Miss Jiang. Miss Ji is sick and cannot speak!”
Jiang He was stunned. So the rumors online were true. She didn’t press the matter and said, “Let’s get down to business! A brief introduction: I, Jiang He, am now in charge of the Jiang Corp. Smart IoT product line. I screen my partner companies meticulously. Since your Zhi Cheng has repeatedly tried to renew your contract with us, I’d like to hear about your future plans in this area and your current overall work process. Miss Ji, is that okay?”
Ji Wanqing typed, and the other party looked at her through the camera, taking in every angle.
Jiang He even zoomed in on her profile picture infinitely, seeing every single pore clearly.
Ji Wanqing typed quickly. Jiang He watched her from all angles with her arms crossed.
When the reply came back, her puppy dog eyes scanned it like a scanner, and then she used a bunch of professional terms to effortlessly refute Ji Wanqing’s plan.
Ji Wanqing hadn’t been involved in company matters for a year, and the other party had just returned from studying abroad with the most advanced technologies. Ji Wanqing was struggling to keep up. It wasn’t until Tang Shaoyun, as a R&D staff member, spoke up that she was able to catch up and add to her previous plan.
Ji Wanqing typed very fast. This time, Jiang He stared at her keyboard-tapping fingers, watching for a bit, then lifting her own hands to compare.
Ji Wanqing’s hands were slender and long, with well-defined joints, and they looked especially beautiful when she was typing.
Jiang He compared them for a while, then placed her hands on the keyboard to mimic her movements, but she had acrylic nails with embedded diamonds that were quite cumbersome when she actually tried to type.
She was a genius in the IT field, but she rarely wrote code herself. She usually directed others to write it while she lay back like a carefree soul.
Ji Wanqing quickly fixed the flaws in her previous plan. Jiang He’s eyes widened in surprise after a quick scan. Since returning to the country, she had dealt with many big names in the business world, but she had never seen a woman with such clear thinking as Ji Wanqing.
If it weren’t for personal grudges, she would be very happy to collaborate with such a competitor.
Jiang He thought for a few seconds and brought up a few technical points that were currently not covered in the country.
Ji Wanqing had been looking at the computer for a long time. Her brain cells were dying, and she was clearly running out of stamina. Her face began to turn pale, and cold sweat streamed down her temples, but her fingers kept moving.
Jiang He stared at her, thinking, “Even if she can’t answer a technical question, there’s no need for a CEO to be so scared that she’s sweating cold, is there?” Just then, a familiar figure appeared in her sight.
Cen Xia walked over with a cup of warm water, placed it on Ji Wanqing’s desk, and gestured to her from a distance away from the camera.
—Big sister, can you handle it?
Ji Wanqing nodded, a weak and sweet smile on her lips.
Jiang He didn’t pay much attention to Ji Wanqing’s movements. She was just looking at that girl from a distance, her eyes welling up.
Ji Wanqing was still typing, but Jiang He spoke up to stop her. “Miss Ji, you can take your time to revise it later. I have something else to do. Let’s reschedule the time!”
Jiang He composed herself and told her assistant to go shopping. As soon as they left, a black Bentley stopped in front of them.
The car door opened, and Madam Ji, in an elegant navy blue dress, walked toward them.
Jiang He rolled down the car window and smiled wryly. She was not in a good mood, and her tone was a bit casual. “Old lady, are you here to hit on me? No, thanks!” she said, and was about to roll up the window.
Madam Ji called out, “Miss Jiang, wait a moment!”
Jiang He’s movement paused. She tilted her head and looked at her. “What is it, old lady?”
Madam Ji walked gracefully, a smile on her face, and introduced herself, “I am Shi Ranying, the person in charge of the Ji Group. I’m here today to talk about a business deal with you, Miss Jiang.”
Jiang He’s expression changed slightly, but she quickly hid it. She raised her eyebrows nonchalantly and mocked, “Isn’t the person in charge of the Ji Group surnamed Ji? I’ve never heard of a Director Shi!”
Madam Ji was not flustered and smiled, saying, “It’s normal that you haven’t heard of me, Miss Jiang. You’ve been studying abroad for a long time!”
Jiang He leaned her arm on the car window, propped her chin on her hand, and impishly fluttered her eyelids twice. “Don’t call me Miss Jiang. That’s a title for women in ancient brothels!”
The smile on Madam Ji’s face froze, revealing deep crow’s feet. She said, “This child is a joker. How about I call you Little Director Jiang?”
Jiang He straightened up, poked her head out, and looked at her reflection in the rearview mirror. She deliberately tried to pick a fight. “Do I look that young? I’m only six years away from turning thirty!”
Madam Ji patiently indulged her. “Little Director Jiang is young and promising. You’re the youngest entrepreneur in the domestic internet industry!”
Jiang He deliberately looked satisfied. “I like hearing that!” She then threw her stray hair back with a very seductive gesture and asked with a smile, “So, are you planning to talk business with me in our garage?”
Madam Ji felt that this girl was just a spoiled rich kid who hadn’t grasped the rules of business competition at all. She didn’t know how the Jiang family would promote her, but for the sake of immediate benefits, she lowered her eyes and smiled to accommodate her. “Of course not. Do you have time for a meal, Director Jiang?”
Jiang He retracted her arm and curled her lips shamelessly. “Sorry, I’m busy!”
Then she rolled up the car window. She gave a look to her assistant, who stomped on the gas. The car drove away from Madam Ji, making a provocative “vroom” sound.
Madam Ji, at her age, had never suffered such humiliation. Her forehead was throbbing with veins, and her fists were clenched tightly. This little granddaughter of the Jiang family was now at the top of her revenge list.
Jiang He’s assistant drove, occasionally glancing at Jiang He, stifling her laughter and teasing, “Director He, you’ve offended a big shot in the industry. Will I still have a future working with you?”
Jiang He was in a bad mood. She reached out and slapped the back of her assistant’s head. “Then you can go to hell right now!”
The assistant was angry. “Holy crap, I’m driving! If my head gets messed up by you, you’re writing the code!”
Jiang He scoffed and closed her eyes for a light nap.
She had been alone and miserable abroad for nearly a decade. Cen Xia would send her emails every day with positive and uplifting content, sharing happy and fun things that happened at school, and encouraging her to take good care of herself. Cen Xia was her entire spiritual pillar.
She had basically participated in every step of Cen Xia’s youth. The two of them went from childhood sweethearts to lovers who understood, loved, and relied on each other, and their feelings never faded because of the distance.
She studied hard, wanting to finish her studies early to give Cen Xia a surprise. During that time, they were in touch less. She received the last email which said, “Jiangjiang, I’m so sleepy. I want to have a good nap [cute cat emoji hugging its head and sleeping].”
She replied, “Little lazybones, it’s not even dark here yet emo.”
They had a very normal conversation, and then she never received a message from her again. She was anxious, but graduation was approaching. She didn’t take a leave of absence; she just wanted to finish early and go back to see her. She worked day and night for two whole months and finally finished. She bought a plane ticket and rushed back overnight.
On the plane, she saw the headline about the Ethereal Diva Ji Wanqing abusing her servants. At first, she didn’t pay attention, but later, the camera turned to the scene of Cen Xia being taken away by the police. A media microphone was shoved in Ji Wanqing’s face, asking, “Just a minute ago, your wife, Miss Cen Xia, was taken away by the police. Could you please give the audience a reasonable explanation…”
Jiang He was stunned. The person and the name were so similar. She couldn’t be sure it was her Cen Xia. The first thing she did after returning to the country was go to the Cen family’s house. Her room was empty. Her computer desktop was still on the last email she sent her: “Little lazybones, it’s not even dark here yet emo.”
Cen’s parents told her that Cen Xia was married, that she had a marriage alliance with the Ji family’s young miss, and that they were very much in love. They also said they regretted not being able to have her, her childhood sweetheart, at the wedding.
Jiang He didn’t know how she managed to walk out of the Cen family’s house. That night, she got very drunk, and coupled with the fatigue accumulated over the past few days, she was unconscious for several days.
Later, she found out that the love Cen’s parents spoke of was a forceful business marriage for the Ji family. Her Cen Xia, the girl she cherished and held dear in her heart, was actually forced into marriage as a “good luck charm to ward off bad luck.”
A wedding ceremony with a future funerary portrait…
She couldn’t bear to imagine such a scene. In an instant, she wanted to tear down the entire Ji family.
It took Jiang He less than two weeks to take over Jiang Corp.’s most core business. Her purpose was crystal clear: Zhi Cheng Technology, as a part of the Ji family, was her first target.
Ji Wanqing was also the main culprit of this marriage alliance. She had no intention of letting her off the hook, but after meeting her today, she felt that she was not the same as the rumored evil witch.
But her Cen Xia was in their house, wearing a white dress, serving her tea and water. She was so thin, and her sweet smile couldn’t hide the weariness in her heart. What had she been through? What did the Ji family make her go through?
Jiang He rubbed her temple and said to her assistant, “Let’s go to a bar. I need a drink!”
The assistant rolled her eyes. The car continued toward the mall. “Director He, know your limits. If you drink yourself to death, we won’t help you steal your wife back!”
Jiang He glared at her and said, “Call Ji Wanqing and tell her to hurry up with the proposal!”
The assistant said, “Director He, don’t you have hands? I’m driving!”
Jiang He took out her phone, and her diamond-studded fingers swiped across the screen several times, sending an email.
