Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
Ji Wanqing’s IV drip had fallen off as she struggled. She was in so much pain that she clutched her heart with both hands, her body trembling non-stop. Yet, she held on, refusing to faint. She was waiting for Cen Xia, waiting for that warm embrace.
Cen Xia rushed over and gathered her into her arms.
Ji Wanqing caught a whiff of Cen Xia’s scent, reached out, and tugged at her collar. Her eyes were empty, filled only with despair. The pain in her heart was overwhelming, and she didn’t know what to do.
Cen Xia leaned down, pressing her forehead against Ji Wanqing’s. Tears streamed down both their faces, running into their mouths, tasting slightly salty. She kept comforting her, “It’s okay, big sister, it’s okay. I’m here, I’m here…”
Ji Wanqing’s body convulsed. Cen Xia hugged her, holding her tightly, repeating over and over, “Big sister, hold on. They’re not worth it…”
Finally, with Cen Xia’s efforts, Ji Wanqing’s emotions calmed down a little. She lay in her arms, gasping for air. She fumbled with one hand, finally grabbing Cen Xia’s wrist.
She placed Cen Xia’s palm on her heart, holding it tightly with both hands, signaling that it hurt too much and she couldn’t catch her breath.
Cen Xia cried, tears dripping down like a broken string of pearls.
The clear drops fell on Ji Wanqing’s forehead, leaving a trail of warmth. Ji Wanqing felt a little more alive. She closed her eyes and exhaled sharply, trying to get through the worst of the pain as quickly as possible, but it only eased slightly.
When she looked up at Cen Xia, the wetness in her eyes still couldn’t be stopped. The two girls looked at each other, both weeping.
Ji Wanqing’s head was dizzy, and she couldn’t see Cen Xia’s face clearly.
Cen Xia sniffled, forcing herself to calm down. She lowered her head and kissed Ji Wanqing’s brow.
She held her tightly, her soft lips moving from her eyes all the way down, kissing away the tears on her face.
Shanquan was squatting at the foot of the bed, curiously watching Cen Xia kiss Ji Wanqing. In a moment, it waddled over, its plump body wobbling, and started licking Ji Wanqing’s feet.
The pain in Ji Wanqing’s heart subsided a bit, and her body’s convulsions weren’t as severe. She felt a fluffy mass at her feet and moved her leg slightly.
Shanquan pounced, hugging her feet tightly with its two paws, wagging its big tail, and gently nibbling on the top of her foot with its small fangs.
Ji Wanqing was uncomfortable and shifted her body. Cen Xia noticed her movement, looked up, and saw the little creature gnawing on her feet with its butt sticking up. She said with a tearful smile, “Big sister, look, Shanquan is imitating me!”
Ji Wanqing’s head was still very dizzy, but she followed Cen Xia’s gaze.
Cen Xia’s eyes were red, and she asked Ji Wanqing, “It’s not as good at comforting as I am, right, big sister?”
Ji Wanqing pursed her lips and buried her pale little face deeper into Cen Xia’s arms.
When Tang Shaoyun arrived after dealing with company matters, the Ji couple had already left. Yan Shuang had just finished cleaning up the mess and was in the living room downstairs, studying medical records.
Tang Shaoyun said, “How’s the situation? Why didn’t you stop them?”
Yan Shuang looked up at him with a “are-you-stupid” look. “I don’t have the core data of the Ji corporation in my hands. How could I stop them?”
Tang Shaoyun ignored him, his face cold as he headed upstairs.
Ji Wanqing’s body couldn’t hold up, and she had fallen asleep again. Cen Xia opened the door, and the two of them spoke in the hallway.
As Ji Wanqing had expected, the company’s senior management was unstable, and many lower-level employees, affected by outside influences, had submitted their resignation letters. Tang Shaoyun said, “I came over as soon as the meeting ended. I’m still late, I’m sorry!”
Cen Xia was already very grateful. “Don’t blame yourself, Tang brother. Big sister has to face these things sooner or later. I just didn’t want her to suffer when she’s this sick. But it’s good, one hurdle passed is one less to go!” She asked, “Is there anything I can help with regarding the company?”
Tang Shaoyun thought for a moment and shook his head honestly. “Not for now. If you have time, you could help reply to comments. I wrote an auto-reply software that can be hung on several IPs.”
Cen Xia nodded. She knew that what Ji Wanqing and her team did was very high-tech. She didn’t understand any of it and, at this critical moment, didn’t want to make things more complicated for others. All she could do was take good care of her.
Tang Shaoyun said, “If the online storm gets too big, Miss Ji might be summoned for investigation. It’s estimated that the police will come to the door in the next two days. I handled both termination agreements, so just tell them the truth. There are no issues with the procedures. As for that video online…”
He paused for a moment and continued, “Miss Ji actually has a lot of fans. Although there are many anti-fans recently, if everyone knows the reason, many things will be easily resolved.”
Cen Xia understood that the best way to prove her innocence was for Ji Wanqing to tear open those unhealed wounds again, revealing them to the public piece by piece, letting them see the ugly and true side beneath the villains’ facade. Even so, what she would endure would be no less than what those villains endured.
As they were talking, Tang Shaoyun’s phone rang. He looked at the caller ID; it was Ji Wanqing’s. She was asking him to come in.
After a nap, Ji Wanqing’s face was not as pale as before. She raised her hand, motioning for Cen Xia to help her.
Cen Xia walked over, picked her up, and leaned her against her shoulder. Tang Shaoyun stood upright in front of them.
Ji Wanqing raised her hand.
—Which senior management departments are the most unstable? The core technical team is fine, right?
Tang Shaoyun reported seriously, “It’s mainly the sales department and the HR department. The core technical team members are all brothers who fought with us from the beginning, they’re very stable!”
Ji Wanqing nodded, thought for a moment, and raised her hand again.
—What about the finance department?
Tang Shaoyun said, “The finance department personnel are fine. It’s just that recently, a lot of our partner companies have terminated their contracts, including [Jiang Corp.]. The Smart Internet of Things project has been a collaboration with them since our company was founded, but just two days ago, the person in charge there suddenly proposed to terminate the contract with us.”
Ji Wanqing was stunned when she heard this.
Jiang Corp. belonged to an old-school enterprise. It started with manufacturing surveillance cameras and later made achievements in the Smart Internet of Things, becoming a globally leading provider of smart IoT solutions and operational services with video at its core. Their reputation was extremely high.
Zhi Cheng Technology had been collaborating with them from the very beginning. Both sides were very clear about each other’s capabilities and would never terminate a contract just because of a few crazy words online. What’s more, their boss was a very upright person with a lot of his own opinions and judgment and wouldn’t be easily incited.
Ji Wanqing couldn’t understand why they would terminate the contract at this critical juncture. She raised her hand.
—Are there any loopholes in the procedures or quality of the recent projects we collaborated on?
She could only think that there might have been an error in the company’s internal procedures, which led to the submitted work being unsatisfactory to the other party.
Director Tang immediately denied it. “No, I personally supervise Jiang Corp.’s business. There couldn’t be any procedural errors!”
He was always so confident in his technical and business abilities.
Ji Wanqing couldn’t hold up physically from sitting for too long. She raised her hand.
—You stay at the company these next few days and pay close attention to this.
Tang Shaoyun agreed. “I came over in a hurry today. I’ll get back to them to find out which part went wrong.”
Ji Wanqing closed her eyes to rest for a moment, then raised her hand.
—Have the legal department intervene on the negative online impact on the company. Have Little Liu find me!
Tang Shaoyun was surprised. “Okay!”
Ji Wanqing really couldn’t hold on, so she let him go back first. She leaned on Cen Xia’s shoulder for a while, a little light returning to her eyes. Just as she was about to lie down to rest, the person who came to take her statement arrived.
It was the same Officer Zhang from last time. Cen Xia was already familiar with him. She joked helplessly, “Officer Zhang, look at my wife. Does she look like the kind of evil witch who eats people without spitting out the bones?”
Zhang Yi looked at Ji Wanqing, who was as thin as a skeleton, and shook his head. “No, she doesn’t. My wife is a fan of the Ethereal Diva. By association, we choose to believe her before the matter is fully investigated!”
This casual remark warmed their hearts. Cen Xia smiled and said, “I’ll thank your wife on behalf of big sister!”
Zhang Yi was very amiable, but since he was on duty, he went straight to the point. “Can Miss Ji take questions now?”
Ji Wanqing gestured with her hands.
—Yes!
Zhang Yi was stunned. Cen Xia explained, “Big sister’s throat is damaged and she can’t speak. You ask, Officer Zhang, and I’ll translate for you!”
Zhang Yi said, “I know. I’ve seen the trending topics.”
But facing her in person, he was still a little bit unable to accept it. His wife was a die-hard fan of Ji Wanqing, and they often listened to her songs at home. Her voice was beautiful. A year ago, Ji Wanqing became an online sensation with her song “Mist in a Cage.” Everyone thought she would become the brightest star on the stage, but they didn’t expect her to become like this a year later.
Zhang Yi finally asked a question out of curiosity, “What happened to Miss Ji’s throat? Did it suddenly become like this?” He regretted it as soon as he said it. “Miss Ji doesn’t have to answer. This question has nothing to do with the case I’m investigating.”
Cen Xia quickly helped smooth things over. “It’s okay, Officer Zhang. It’s a long story. We can talk about it in detail later!”
Zhang Yi was very serious when he got down to business. He said, “According to the video online, Miss Ji had a dispute with your family’s steward, Ms. Song Yazhi. The next day, Ms. Song Yazhi resigned. Was she fired?”
Ji Wanqing didn’t hesitate at all.
—Yes!
Zhang Yi paused and asked, “What was the reason? Was the procedure legal?”
Ji Wanqing closed her eyes to rest for a while, then raised her hand again.
—That medicine was a problem. She tried to use my adopted mother’s name to make things difficult for my wife and force me to drink it. The procedure was legal, and she was compensated with the corresponding severance pay.
Zhang Yi was surprised by her gestures. Just as Cen Xia was about to translate, he said, “You don’t have to, Miss Cen. I can understand sign language.”
He recorded everything carefully, and the interview was now being filmed with a camera.
Ji Wanqing endured and answered the police’s questions. She was covered in cold sweat and collapsed into Cen Xia’s arms. After Zhang Yi left, she reached out to touch Cen Xia’s face, but her arm fell limp and she fainted.
Cen Xia picked up her arm, which had fallen, and kissed it, whispering in her heart over and over, “Big sister, it’s almost over. Just hold on a little longer. Everything will be alright…”
