Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
The two of them stayed at the cat cafe all morning. Ji Wanqing was happy the entire time. At lunchtime, a staff member brought them desserts. She didn’t want to eat anything; she just wanted to play with the cat. Cen Xia had no choice but to trick her into believing that the little ragdoll also needed to eat, and she fed it cat treats with all her might.
Also, the young lady’s mindset was a bit different from a normal person’s. Even though there were many cats in the room, she only fed that one little ragdoll. It was so full that its belly was bloated. When other cats came over, she would scatter a handful of cat food far away to trick them into leaving.
Cen Xia watched from the side and found it amusing. Ji Wanqing must be the kind of girl with a strong sense of possessiveness. She would always treat the things she cared about differently. It was likely that if she ever had a person she loved, it would be even more obvious.
Maybe because the cat treats were so delicious, the little ragdoll didn’t know when to stop. It would eat as much as Ji Wanqing fed it, being very appreciative.
Cen Xia looked at the two of them and was a little worried. She said, “Sister, the little cat is full and needs to rest. You should also eat and rest. We need to save our energy to play with it this afternoon!”
Ji Wanqing thought she had a point. She obediently nodded, wheeled herself to the coffee table, and started eating. When she turned around, she didn’t forget to hide the cat treats in her hand.
The desserts at the cat cafe were good. The young lady was in a good mood today, so her appetite was also good. She ate several slices of strawberry cream cake and drank a cup of fruit tea. Cen Xia was worried that she wouldn’t be able to handle it, so after she finished eating, she coaxed her to rest on the sofa.
Ji Wanqing’s heart was always on the cat, and the little creature also missed her. As soon as she settled into the sofa, the cat came over, wagging its tail.
“Meow~”
The young lady was utterly charmed by the soft meow. She reached out and patted the sofa cushion. The little creature jumped up with a push of its hind legs and rubbed against her, nudging its head into her chest.
Ji Wanqing was overjoyed. While petting it, she looked up and smiled at Cen Xia, like a child who had received a precious item and was sharing it with her dearest person.
Under her petting, the little creature flopped down, its head resting in her shoulder, making a happy purring sound.
Ji Wanqing was careful not to move. The little creature placed a paw on her neck and slept with its eyes closed. Not long after, it started to snore softly, which made her sleepy too. Her eyelids slowly closed, and her breathing gradually became steady.
The sight of the two of them lying there was so heartwarming. Cen Xia took out her phone and secretly took a few pictures. She then gently draped a thin blanket over Ji Wanqing.
Sleep was truly precious for Ji Wanqing, who hadn’t slept well in over a year. She slept soundly this time. Tears occasionally trickled from the corners of her eyes, but her smile was always happy. She was probably dreaming, and it had to be a sweet dream.
It was around 4 p.m., and Ji Wanqing was still asleep. Cen Xia stayed by her side, not wanting to wake her. The cat, however, woke up first.
It stretched in her arms, used its paws to push against Ji Wanqing’s neck, and when it found she didn’t react, the little creature used its ultimate move: it rolled its head in her shoulder to show a cute, spoiled pose.
Ji Wanqing still didn’t react.
She was usually a light sleeper. Unless she was too exhausted and passed out, trapped by a nightmare and unable to wake up, she would wake up at the slightest disturbance after a few minutes of sleep. But perhaps because of the change of environment today, she was sleeping very deeply.
The little creature, feeling no movement, became anxious. It sat up with a start and rubbed its head against her neck, but Ji Wanqing still didn’t wake up.
It paced back and forth on her head, licking her cheek with its tongue, and even made a faint meowing sound.
Cen Xia watched this scene and suddenly had the urge to take the cat home.
She looked at Ji Wanqing, then at the anxious kitten trying to wake its owner. In less than ten seconds, she stood up, quietly left the room, and went to the front desk to talk to the staff.
When Ji Wanqing woke up, she didn’t see anyone. She tensed up, grabbed her phone, and quickly sent her a message.
—Where are you?
Cen Xia was talking to the staff member and felt her phone vibrate. She looked at the message, and the corners of her lips unconsciously turned up. The young lady had主动 contacted her, and she was happy. She tapped a few times on the keyboard and replied.
—Sister, I’m taking a poop. I’ll be right there!
Ji Wanqing: …
She felt a little relieved. Only then did she notice a slight dryness on her cheeks. The little cat was still nudging her forehead, wagging its tail excitedly.
She held the cat in her arms and ruffled the fur on its belly.
The little creature lay sprawled on its back, a happy purring sound coming from its throat, extremely relaxed and content.
Cen Xia returned quickly after she was done.
Ji Wanqing heard the door open and glanced over. When she saw it was her, she felt relieved. She pretended she hadn’t noticed anything and continued to pet the little cat with a serious expression.
Cen Xia walked over and naturally sat down on the sofa next to her, giving her a sweet smile.
Ji Wanqing ignored her, her eyes fixed on the little cat. Her hands were very, very carefully stroking its belly.
Cen Xia said, “Sister, you really like it!”
Ji Wanqing’s hand paused. Her eyes shifted.
Like it? How could she, the great young lady of the Ji family, like a small animal? Impossible!
Cen Xia noticed her subtle movements and deliberately teased her.
“Sister doesn’t like it? Then I must have misunderstood. I was thinking, if you liked it, I could try to negotiate with the owner and take it home. If you don’t like it, then let’s not. If we take it back, no one will play with it, and it will be all alone, which is pitiful!”
When Ji Wanqing heard this, she was clearly pleased, but she couldn’t show too much interest. She turned her head and gave her a faint look.
Cen Xia reached out her hand, trying to take the cat from Ji Wanqing’s arms.
“Let’s put it back then! Animals can become dependent. If someone spends a long time with it, it might think the person likes it and subconsciously treat her as its owner. But Sister doesn’t like it. If you keep clinging to it, it will be very disappointed later. We might as well put it back early!”
As she spoke, she slowly pulled the cat. The cat was already halfway in her arms when Ji Wanqing, with a quick move, grabbed its two hind legs. She looked up, glaring at Cen Xia.
Cen Xia looked innocent. “What’s wrong, Sister?”
Ji Wanqing didn’t say anything and subconsciously pulled on its hind legs. Cen Xia gently pulled forward. The cat’s body was tugged, and it felt a little uncomfortable, letting out a “meow.”
Cen Xia said, “Sister, you’re hurting it!”
Ji Wanqing didn’t let go. She lowered her head and bit Cen Xia’s arm with her teeth.
Cen Xia deliberately yelled in pain. “Sister, why are you biting me!”
She let go, and Ji Wanqing pulled the cat into her arms. She held it tightly with both arms and even turned to the side, covering most of its body to prevent Cen Xia from taking it.
Cen Xia said, “Sister, didn’t you say you didn’t like it?”
Ji Wanqing turned her head and glared at her. Shut up!
In the end, the two of them took the cat home and even bought a bunch of pet supplies. Cen Xia had planned to carry the cat in a cat carrier, but Ji Wanqing refused and insisted on holding it with both hands.
The cat carrier was warm, but the space was small. She felt that putting it inside was a form of confinement, and she didn’t want it to be trapped in a cage like she was now.
Cen Xia helped her with a simple disguise, putting on the same bucket hat, sunglasses, and mask she had worn when they arrived. Then they headed back.
The number of pedestrians on the road had gradually increased. Perhaps it was after work, and everyone was out and about. Cen Xia didn’t pay much attention. The little cat was a bit timid on its first outing and huddled in a small ball in Ji Wanqing’s arms.
Cen Xia took out a thin, sheer cloth from a pile of items and covered its legs with it. The cat’s mood improved.
She continued to push Ji Wanqing forward. There was a distance between the cat cafe and the parking lot. When they arrived, there were few people, and the scenery was nice, so they had walked to unwind. On the way back, the number of people gradually increased. They also had a cat and big bags of cat supplies, so they realized the distance was still quite far.
Ji Wanqing took out her phone and sent a message to Tang Shaoyun, asking him to drive the car to their location so they could meet.
Tang Shaoyun received the message and immediately complied, but the number of pedestrians on the road seemed to have increased, and the car couldn’t move forward at all.
Cen Xia also noticed this. The street, which had been crowded but not jammed, was becoming more and more congested. Many people seemed to be intentionally moving closer to them. She felt a sense of panic. She quickened her pace and leaned down to whisper in Ji Wanqing’s ear.
“Sister, quickly message that mean boss and tell him to stop the car and come here on foot!”
She was a very clever girl. She might seem silly on a normal day, but she didn’t lose her composure during a crisis. Ji Wanqing also noticed that something was wrong with the pedestrians. She tapped her screen a few times and quickly sent the message to Tang Shaoyun.
Less than ten seconds after she was done, a passerby rushed over and pointed at Ji Wanqing, screaming.
“That’s the diva, Ji Wanqing!”
With that scream, a crowd of people gathered and started screaming too. Cameras were shoved in her face, people took pictures, and asked for autographs.
Cen Xia held the wheelchair handles tightly and explained repeatedly, “I’m sorry, you’ve got the wrong person!”
But it was no use. The scene became chaotic. In a few minutes, media reporters also appeared. If what had happened before was a coincidence, this was definitely premeditated.
Cen Xia was on high alert. The path ahead was blocked. She knew that at this moment, she couldn’t break through alone. In a moment of urgency, she spoke out.
“Everyone, please calm down. I’m Ji Wanqing’s manager. I know you all love her very much, but she has a health issue and can’t be exposed to the wind or get tired for too long. Please make a path for her so she can pass?”
Among them, there were some true fans of Ji Wanqing. When they heard that their beloved diva was sick, they couldn’t help but feel sad. They looked at her, and at that moment, their diva, with her frail body sitting in the wheelchair, had become as thin as a skeleton. Everyone’s hearts ached for her.
A minute later, some kind-hearted fans voluntarily made a path, and others also moved to the sides.
Cen Xia gripped the wheelchair handles and rushed forward. A few fans chased after them. Fortunately, at this moment, security had already arrived in time, and Tang Shaoyun was also running towards them.
They pushed Ji Wanqing and the cat into a secluded corner, and after a great effort, they finally shook off the crowd and arrived at a relatively safe place. Cen Xia looked at Ji Wanqing, and Tang Shaoyun went to get the car.
After all the commotion, Ji Wanqing was completely exhausted. The little cat in her arms was also terrified, its body trembling. Cen Xia was sweating profusely, but she still knelt down, her arms wrapped protectively around the two of them.
Ji Wanqing’s cold body came into contact with Cen Xia’s hot skin through their clothes. Her wildly beating heart calmed down a little. She lowered her eyes, and her weak eyes seemed to be covered in a layer of mist. As night fell, she couldn’t see clearly.
Cen Xia said, “Sister, it’s okay. Don’t be afraid. I’m here!”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was firm. In the next second, the person in her arms used all her strength to pull her to her side, and she pushed her wheelchair forward, her frail body shielding her.
When Cen Xia came to her senses, four or five men holding knives were slowly approaching them from two directions.
