Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine - Chapter 48
“I understand, sweetheart.”
The Omega’s soft, gentle words seemed to twist open the floodgates of Pei Yujiang’s emotions, releasing all the pent-up stress and negativity that had accumulated over these past days.
Her nose stung, and tears surged uncontrollably, breaking through like a dam.
Pei Yujiang rarely showed negativity in front of others. Even with Pei Jinhuai, who treated her so well and was her nominal mother, she had never revealed such vulnerability.
The tension she had carried for days, as if treading on thin ice, finally found an outlet at this moment. Pei Yujiang slowly crouched down, barely able to hold back her tears and sobs. Though she didn’t particularly want to show this side of herself to Yu Zhiwan, the sudden surge of emotion was impossible to conceal.
Yu Zhiwan reached out and grasped Pei Yujiang’s hand.
In the past, Pei Yujiang had always treated the Omega as the fragile one to be cared for. Even though she knew Yu Zhiwan couldn’t see or feel it, she still took care to avoid touching her disabled legs, trying to respect the sensitivity of someone with disabilities in her own way.
But she had underestimated the stability and strength of Yu Zhiwan’s mindset, a blind, disabled Omega.
Pei Yujiang buried her face in Yu Zhiwan’s lap, where sensation had long been lost. Warm tears spilled uncontrollably, soaking into the soft fabric of her clothes. But since it was the tail end of winter transitioning into early spring, they were both dressed warmly, and she didn’t bother wiping them away, letting her emotions pour out recklessly.
Slender fingers combed through her long hair, gently smoothing down from her scalp, then massaging her temples with tender motions, as if comforting a spoiled pet at home.
The sweet scent of Omega pheromones lingered in her nose. Pei Yujiang, a Beta who could detect pheromones, found her emotions spiraling even further as she trembled slightly against Yu Zhiwan’s legs.
The delicate touch and warmth of those fingers melted the chill of the wind. Fresh green leaves pushed aside the shivering fallen ones in the breeze, while withered yellow ones drifted onto her shoulders, only to be brushed away by Yu Zhiwan.
Yu Zhiwan remained silent until Pei Yujiang had finished crying, then patted her shoulder, signaling for her to rise from her embrace.
“Let’s go.”
Pei Yujiang’s car had an autopilot mode, so Yu Zhiwan took the wheel on the way back, asking for the keys and setting the destination via voice command. The two of them rode in silence the entire way.
When they reached the elevator, Pei Yujiang, for once, went to Yu Zhiwan’s home.
Usually, if they visited each other, it was Yu Zhiwan who came to her place.
Though blind, Yu Zhiwan kept her home impeccably tidy even if it took her several times longer than it would for someone sighted. At the very least, to an outsider, everything appeared neat and orderly.
The living room had two small shelves: one was a bookcase filled with Braille books, and the other held delicate celadon vases with intricate relief designs, all of them textured for tactile appreciation, beautifully crafted.
Since helping with the move, Pei Yujiang had hardly visited Yu Zhiwan’s home. Yu Zhiwan, playing the gracious host, gave her a tour. Unsurprisingly, she spotted the piano on the balcony though she had no idea when it had been purchased.
Pei Yujiang didn’t know much about musical instruments, but after asking Yu Zhiwan, she reached out to run her fingers over the black and white keys.
Since it was frequently used, the piano wasn’t covered, its black and white keys wiped spotless by Yu Zhiwan until they gleamed. The balcony was filled with well-tended greenery, no flowers, but the lush surroundings provided a soothing view.
Yu Zhiwan’s kitchen was also equipped with tools suitable for the visually impaired.
She was an excellent cook, preparing varied breakfasts almost every morning and delivering them. Pei Yujiang still remembered last Monday’s savory and rich century egg and pork congee, Tuesday’s roasted taro and soy milk, Wednesday’s handmade buns with perfectly pleated wrappers and generous fillings each day brought something different.
After showing her around, Yu Zhiwan washed her hands and asked,
“Hungry? Want something to eat?”
Though her stomach growled, Pei Yujiang wasn’t in the mood to eat and shook her head.
The answer seemed expected. Yu Zhiwan smiled, not pressing further.
“Then let’s talk. You must have a lot to ask me, hmm?”
Pei Yujiang did have many questions. From the start, she’d been intensely curious about this female lead her identity, her background, and the many puzzling aspects surrounding her.
Yu Zhiwan cleverly took the initiative, leaving Pei Yujiang unsure how to begin. Her gaze drifted to the Omega’s rosy lips, her thoughts wandering.
The earlier surge of emotion had faded, leaving her with a jumble of words too chaotic to articulate clearly. Meanwhile, the Omega sat composed before her, lashes lowered, as poised and elegant as ever.
When Pei Yujiang remained silent, Yu Zhiwan leaned closer, her warm breath brushing against her cheek, stirring fine hairs and tickling slightly:
“How about a Q&A? I might not answer everything, but what I do answer will be the truth.”
To avoid any interference, she kept her pheromones tightly restrained. In that moment, Yu Zhiwan sensed Pei Yujiang straightening on the sofa, her confidence and control gradually returning. Faced with crucial questions, she shook off useless emotions, steeling herself for the conversation.
“Do you know what that water plant is doing?”
Pei Yujiang’s first question was sharp. She wasn’t afraid of lies, she could read micro-expressions. Besides, she trusted Yu Zhiwan. If the Omega hadn’t intended to be honest, she wouldn’t have sought this discussion.
Yu Zhiwan answered without hesitation:
“I have a rough idea, but not the specifics.”
Pei Yujiang frowned slightly, carefully steadying her voice to hide any tremors:
“Then are you connected to the people at that plant?”
This time, Yu Zhiwan replied even more firmly:
“I don’t know anyone from Xiangcheng not the mayor, his wife, or the people she deals with. The people at the water plant have no ties to me whatsoever.”
Hearing this, Pei Yujiang’s tense nerves relaxed ever so slightly, and her tightly clenched fist loosened. This was an answer that brought her some comfort, but it didn’t mean the following interrogation would be any easier. Pei Yujiang took several deep breaths to steady herself, staring straight into Yu Zhiwan’s face, unwilling to miss even the slightest microexpression.
Gripping the armrest of the sofa, she asked with deliberate seriousness:
“Then can you tell me who you really are?”
Double debuff from period pain , stiff neck, next update will be late.
Why does my period have to come with nausea too, ugh.
