Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine - Chapter 31
Pei Yujiang didn’t overthink Yu Zhiwan’s invitation and immediately crouched down before her.
The Omega’s soft fingers gently grasped her chin, applying just enough pressure as her fingertips traced Pei Yujiang’s lips, sending tingling sensations through her. At this moment, Pei Yujiang felt something was slightly off, but out of politeness, she didn’t pull away.
She didn’t dislike Yu Zhiwan’s touch, nor did she have any germaphobic tendencies especially since Yu Zhiwan had used hand sanitizer as soon as she sat down, leaving her fingers lightly scented with fresh lemon.
Still, she couldn’t help feeling this was somewhat inappropriate, especially in front of others. It almost made it seem like there was something between them. Though Pei Yujiang had never been in a relationship, she knew how couples typically interacted, and Yu Zhiwan’s behavior seemed to cross a certain boundary.
But this thought only flickered briefly in Pei Yujiang’s mind. She reasoned that Yu Zhiwan, being blind and disabled, might naturally crave more closeness. If even she, as Yu Zhiwan’s good friend, pushed her away, such a fragile Omega would undoubtedly feel hurt.
After all, Pei Yujiang wasn’t bothered by Yu Zhiwan’s proximity, nor did she care about any rumors.
With that in mind, she even guided Yu Zhiwan’s hand to explore her lips more freely. As a blind person, Yu Zhiwan couldn’t see the lipstick and could only rely on touch.
Yu Zhiwan meticulously traced Pei Yujiang’s lips, pressing and stroking with deliberate care. Pei Yujiang instinctively closed her eyes, surrendering to the delicate sensation of the woman’s fingertips lingering on her mouth. After a while, Yu Zhiwan leisurely retrieved her own lipstick and began applying it for her.
The lipstick glided smoothly over her lips, the strokes far more practiced than when Pei Yujiang had done it herself.
Truthfully, Pei Yujiang couldn’t really distinguish between lipstick shades. If two similar colors were placed before her, she wouldn’t be able to tell them apart unlike some women who had a natural sensitivity to such nuances.
In other words, she wasn’t particularly suited for the beauty industry. She had basic aesthetic sense but lacked any groundbreaking talent for it.
As the two worked on the lipstick, Chen Lulu, watching from the side, was utterly astonished, her mind racing with countless speculations.
Her first thought was that the two were a couple. But Pei Yujiang had just told her she was single surely she wouldn’t tell such an easily exposed lie.
Were they on the verge of becoming lovers?
That didn’t seem likely either. If they were already this intimate during the ambiguous phase, they might as well just get together instead of playing this push-and-pull game.
Baffled, Chen Lulu’s gaze toward Pei Yujiang gradually grew more complicated. But Pei Yujiang, completely unaware of the other woman’s presence, remained obediently crouched before Yu Zhiwan, worried only about smudging her lipstick and being mocked later.
By the time Pei Yujiang finished touching up her makeup, Chen Lulu had already vanished.
Pei Yujiang felt it was impolite not to say goodbye, but Yu Zhiwan stopped her:
“She probably got hungry and went back to eat. Wouldn’t chasing after her now just disturb her?”
Just as Pei Yujiang was about to leave, Yu Zhiwan’s words called her back.
She truly hated being disturbed while eating, especially when she was starving and someone kept chattering beside her. Out of politeness, she couldn’t just ignore them, it was downright infuriating.
Yu Zhiwan heard her sit down and smiled even more gently:
“Want to try the chicken wings here? They’re different from the ones sold outside they have an egg yolk flavor. I just had one, and they’re really delicious.”
Chen Lulu stabbed the chicken wing on her plate with a resentful expression.
The tiny wing had been poked full of holes by her fork before it even reached her mouth. Fang Nianjing, sitting across from her, couldn’t take it anymore and tapped her plate with chopsticks:
“Are you done yet? If you’re so unwilling, why don’t you just go after her? What’s the point of hesitating like this?”
Chen Lulu sulked:
“It’s easy for you to say. You’re all lovey-dovey with your girlfriend, you have no idea how painful it is for us single folks, okay?”
The thought of Pei Yujiang and Yu Zhiwan’s intimate interactions made her feel unbearably frustrated, as if someone had snatched away what she had her eye on. If Yu Zhiwan were Pei Yujiang’s actual girlfriend, she might have conceded and wished them well. But Pei Yujiang had clearly stated they were just superior and subordinate meaning there was still a chance. Was she really supposed to just give up?
Chen Lulu hesitated, her appetite for the chicken wing completely gone.
She couldn’t bring herself to willingly give up. Staring at Fang Nianjing’s teasing expression, she finally made up her mind and stood to leave.
In the end, Chen Lulu did manage to get Pei Yujiang’s contact information.
The reason? Pei Yujiang was actually quite interested in the disaster film she had shot.
In her past life, Ningxiang hadn’t suffered much from the ravages of war. The city was crisscrossed with waterways not the vast rivers of the north, but the intricate canals typical of southern water towns, making it unsuitable for military deployment. Even the zombie beasts had barely invaded the area.
But while Ningxiang had escaped the war, it hadn’t been spared from man-made disasters. At the time, the nation had fractured into scattered factions. Someone had arranged for a batch of chemicals to be secretly transported through the city, only for another group to discover the shipment and attempt to sabotage it.
The chemicals leaked, and the operatives sent to handle the mission died on the spot, their deaths gruesome and horrifying. An unknown plague spread through Ningxiang, turning the once-stable city into a place of fear and chaos.
Ningxiang wasn’t a major city, so help never arrived. The picturesque town soon became a living hell.
Pei Yujiang had been searching for a way to prevent the catastrophe two hundred years later, and Chen Lulu’s “disaster film” gave her a sudden, illuminating inspiration like a bolt of clarity.
A while back, during the floods in Yicheng, she had realized that even if the Federation’s rule seemed stable, the planet’s eventual collapse must have been tied to its leadership.
The officials in Yicheng had neglected their duties, embezzling funds and prioritizing their own positions over the lives of the people, nearly costing them their homes in the floods. She remembered that later, the leaders of Ningxiang’s province had also passed new laws to build factories there ostensibly to boost the economy, but in reality, the industrial pollution had devastated the city.
The planet’s downfall, though later suspected to involve human interference, was undeniably linked to nature as well.
If these malignant tumors aren’t eradicated, and humans continue to recklessly exploit and damage nature without prioritizing environmental protection, there’s no guarantee the catastrophe from two hundred years ago won’t repeat itself.
Pei Yujiang had been thinking a lot about that disaster film and was itching to sprout wings and fly straight to Chen Lulu’s film set.
After getting in the car and turning on the autopilot, she called Chen Lulu to chat. Chen Lulu was overjoyed to hear from her. Though the conversation revolved around the disaster film, Chen Lulu effortlessly steered it toward other topics.
“Yujiang-jie, how long are you staying in Ningxiang?”
“No more than five days. I’ll probably leave the day after tomorrow.”
Extracting the raw materials wasn’t difficult or time-consuming. Neither Yu Zhiwan nor Pei Yujiang were here purely for leisure. Since the technician had arrived, they could start work that very night. Yu Zhiwan wasn’t the type of spoiled Omega who shirked effort, so she planned to work alongside him to extract and observe the flower essence.
Chen Lulu asked sweetly:
“So when are you coming to see me?”
Like Yu Zhiwan, Chen Lulu was an Omega, and even younger than Pei Yujiang. Her voice was sweet but not affected the kind of natural, bubbly charm that made her adorable when she cooed. Pei Yujiang glanced at the calendar on her phone and replied:
“Probably in the next couple of days. Are you busy tomorrow? Can I drop by then?”
Tomorrow, Yu Zhiwan would be occupied with the extraction and observation experiments, which Pei Yujiang found utterly dull and beyond her understanding. She didn’t want to waste time, so she planned to visit Chen Lulu’s set, mainly to check out the disaster film’s plot.
If the script was solid, she intended to borrow some money from Pei Jinhuai to invest not too much, just enough to get her foot in the door and allow her to observe and learn on set.
Pei Yujiang had always been the type to act on her impulses. After some reflection, she realized the beauty industry wasn’t for her, but fields like content creation or screenwriting though she’d never tried them, intrigued her.
Yu Zhiwan stayed silent beside her. Assuming she had fallen asleep and not wanting to disturb her, Pei Yujiang ended the call and switched to chatting with Chen Lulu on Talk APP.
[Chen Lulu]: [Voice message] You can totally come to our set! I’ll let the director know in advance. Just give me a heads-up before you arrive, if I’m free, I’ll come get you myself. If I’m filming, my assistant will pick you up! After we wrap in the afternoon, I’ll treat you to the fish maw hotpot here!
Fish maw hotpot sounded delicious.
Though still full from the buffet, Pei Yujiang mentally added the dish to her culinary bucket list. She hadn’t visited Ningxiang much in her past life, so she was eager to explore and indulge but only after Yu Zhiwan finished her work.
That night, instead of returning to the guesthouse, they headed to the lab rented by the technician. Since he was male and it would be awkward, Pei Yujiang helped Yu Zhiwan into her lab coat.
Dressed in white, the Omega donned protective goggles and gloves, her refined elegance exuding an air of restrained allure. The uniform did nothing to diminish Yu Zhiwan’s beauty, if anything, it accentuated it.
She looked like the kind of “stoic, intellectual med student” often romanticized in novels.
Her hair was neatly pinned up, and even her bangs were tucked under her cap. Pei Yujiang couldn’t help feeling a pang of regret at not getting to see Yu Zhiwan with her bangs swept aside.
Her bangs were quite thick, and Yu Zhiwan said it was to cover a birthmark, but the woman didn’t seem like someone who cared much about such things, so Pei Yujiang didn’t ask further.
After helping Yu Zhiwan tidy up, Pei Yujiang was about to leave when she heard Yu Zhiwan casually ask:
“Would you like to learn how to make dried flowers?”
Pei Yujiang was a knowledge-thirsty Beta.
Though she wasn’t particularly interested in cosmetics, learning a new craft was always exciting. So when Yu Zhiwan suggested it, she immediately nodded in agreement.
Yu Zhiwan had her change into work clothes and brought her into the studio.
This wasn’t exactly standard procedure, but it wasn’t a big deal either. Pei Yujiang wasn’t a three-year-old who would mess around, and she’d disinfected with alcohol before entering. Extracting the raw materials wasn’t difficult and would be done quickly the main time would be spent observing afterwards.
Since Yu Zhiwan couldn’t see, she verbally guided the technician through the process. Her instructions were meticulous and clear, and the technician picked it up quickly, completing the extraction in about an hour.
The remaining flowers were of no use, so Yu Zhiwan dismissed the technician to rest and beckoned Pei Yujiang over to join her.
The worktable wasn’t high, with materials stored on the lower shelf and immovable bottles and reagents above. Yu Zhiwan, in her wheelchair, found it awkward to bend down several times, her brow slightly furrowed.
“Maybe you could come in front of me?”
Yu Zhiwan pondered for a moment before asking.
Without hesitation, Pei Yujiang stepped forward with her long legs, positioning herself in front of Yu Zhiwan.
Her back pressed against Yu Zhiwan’s numb legs as the latter leaned forward slightly, effectively encircling her. Their winter clothing was thick, avoiding any awkward contact otherwise, at this angle, Yu Zhiwan’s softness would have been pressed directly against Pei Yujiang’s spine.
Pei Yujiang didn’t overthink it, letting Yu Zhiwan guide her through the process from behind. She was quick with her hands and learned step-by-step easily. In the warm lab, the Omega’s scent lingered in the air, subtle and slow. Breathing in the fragrance of roses, Pei Yujiang momentarily struggled to distinguish which floral scent was stronger.
Amid the intoxicating floral aroma, the Omega’s gentle voice spoke up, as if casually joking:
“Do you find it more fun to make things yourself or to watch disaster films being shot?”
Pei Yujiang opened her mouth to answer, but Yu Zhiwan’s flower-stained finger suddenly pressed against her lips, sealing them. The pad of her thumb brushed over Pei Yujiang’s full lower lip, instantly staining it with color. Yet the Omega’s tone carried a hint of danger that clashed with the cozy atmosphere as she murmured:
“Tell the truth.”
Pei Yujiang nearly bit her finger in surprise at the sudden life-or-death question. She wasn’t sure if she should lie, but if her answer contradicted expectations, would she trigger another warning about the female lead’s darkening value?
“I like disaster!”
After wavering between the two options, Pei Yujiang finally decided to be honest. But just as the words were about to leave her mouth, Yu Zhiwan’s long-stagnant darkening value suddenly spiked by two whole points!
Two points!
“The flower juice is delicious, I love drinking it here!”
Pei Yujiang’s heartstrings were pulled taut. Seeing the Omega’s fingertips still stained with petal juice, she didn’t hesitate to take them into her mouth, her tongue swirling around the woman’s soft finger pads. A refreshing fragrance blossomed in her mouth, gradually giving way to bitterness that made her inhale sharply.
If Yu Zhiwan had her sight, she would have seen the woman kneeling before her in a dangerously suggestive posture, sucking on her fingertips like honey.
But even without vision, Yu Zhiwan’s arm trembled as a blush instantly spread across her face.
Yu Zhiwan: I asked you to answer the question, not to go straight for this kind of action!!!
Fish Sauce’s future path is being an unintentionally seductive·innocent yet tempting top.
