Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine - Chapter 21
Pei Yujiang’s mind buzzed silently, her entire face burning from cheeks to earlobes as if she’d plunged into boiling oil. Only one word dominated her thoughts:
Mortification.
This was utterly mortifying.
In mere seconds, Pei Yujiang experienced what novels described as “cringing hard enough to dig toes through the floor.” Were it not for residual rationality, she’d have bolted from the female lead’s side immediately.
Thankfully Yu Zhiwan couldn’t see, or those clear eyes would have laid her bare completely, Pei Yujiang thought.
Before Yu Zhiwan could speak, Pei Yujiang’s mind raced for damage control while monitoring the blackening meter. Confirming it hadn’t risen arbitrarily, she cautiously ventured:
“Has my wish been dashed?”
Yu Zhiwan seemed puzzled.
As she spoke, Pei Yujiang withdrew her hand from the Omega’s grasp, ending the teasing circles being traced on her palm – those ticklish sensations bred flustered confusion. Drawing breath, she continued:
“Actually, I’ve always wanted to be friends but you disliked me so much, I didn’t know how to approach you.”
Hence fabricating an identity to deceive you. Pei Yujiang internally sighed – she must be the world’s most unfortunate, humblest superior, explaining herself like this to a subordinate.
Damn that cursed mission.
Noticing warning signs of rising blackening values, Pei Yujiang feared crossing irreversible thresholds. Resigned, she confessed everything. Lying never came naturally anyway – truthfulness eased her nervousness around the Omega:
“Miss Yu, I truly am a Beta. That pheromone was black-market bought long ago – I’ve reformed since. You can verify – I carry no scent now.”
Pei Yujiang currently wore perfume, distinctly different from pheromones – detectable by all without sexual allure.
“And I’m straight. Steel-straight. You needn’t worry.”
This declaration carried less conviction.
Fundamentally, she wasn’t certain of her orientation – having never lived as a Beta nor dated. As an Alpha, she’d never properly held an Omega’s hand, with romance absent from life plans.
When Yu Zhiwan traced circles on her palm, the tingling seemed like universal physiology rather than attraction, right?
A flicker of guilt surfaced as Yu Zhiwan drawled an ambiguous “Oh.”
The original host’s notorious reputation, especially in Yu Zhiwan’s eyes, might breed skepticism. If misinterpreted as predatory intentions, wouldn’t that accelerate blackening?
Remembering her original fate, Pei Yujiang’s anxiety spiked until Yu Zhiwan’s nearly imperceptible chuckle preceded a quiet question:
“Really?”
The system kept reminding her in her mind not to let her persona collapse too much. Afraid of causing trouble, Pei Yujiang could only let out a light hum, refusing to answer Yu Zhiwan’s follow-up questions, pretending to storm off in a huff after being exposed.
After estimating she had walked beyond Yu Zhiwan’s perceptive range, Pei Yujiang’s ears still felt slightly warm. She broke into a swift run against the howling cold wind, circling the neighborhood three full laps before finally calming down and returning to her residence.

Yu Zhiwan tightened the coat the woman had tossed over her before leaving, which still carried a fresh white tea fragrance subtly hidden deep within its fibers. Her phone vibrated Zhao Manlin had sent voice messages a few minutes ago, vehemently venting about Liu Huanran.
“Isn’t your heat cycle coming up soon? Stock up on suppressants, or you could stay at my place. I don’t feel comfortable with you and Liu Huanran together that person really isn’t reliable. Don’t be too trusting of an Alpha’s self-control. With your high-tier pheromones, you’re attractive to most Alphas.”
Attractive?
The rose-scented pheromones intertwined with the white tea aroma. Though they didn’t blend, the combination of two pleasant, non-conflicting fragrances was intoxicating. Yu Zhiwan took a deep breath of the refreshing scent, feeling the biting cold wind beside her as she tightened the coat around herself again.
Unlocking her phone, she replied to Zhao Manlin:
“I’ve found a good new place today. I’ll move out soon, so don’t worry.”
Zhao Manlin was a friend she’d known for a long time chivalrous at heart, straightforward in speech, and decisive in action despite being an Omega.
She particularly disliked Liu Huanran’s opportunistic nature. Ever since Yu Zhiwan proposed “being together” with Liu Huanran, Zhao Manlin’s disapproval had grown, fearing this Alpha might one day reveal their wolfish instincts.
But unless absolutely necessary, Yu Zhiwan, as an Omega, naturally had no desire to live under the same roof as an Alpha. Zhao Manlin might be blunt and quick-tempered, but she was right about one thing.
The pairing of Alphas and Omegas often defied logic. During rut and heat cycles, mutual attraction came easily, with compatibility frequently sparked by matching pheromones.
Initially, she’d signed an agreement with Liu Huanran because the person seemed manageable and docile. Who knew they’d grow increasingly restless, now trying to push boundaries and kindle emotions beyond their employer-employee relationship?
Yu Zhiwan deeply disliked people who lacked a sense of boundaries. The more Liu Huanran eagerly approached with ulterior motives, the more repulsed she became. But now she’d found a better way out. Before reaching her limit with Liu Huanran and deciding to sever ties, Yu Zhiwan made her choice with ease.
“I’ll be staying with a friend.”
A silence fell on Zhao Manlin’s end of the call. Yu Zhiwan knew she was concerned but afraid of overstepping and becoming a nuisance.
This kind of care didn’t bother her. Yet when she recalled Pei Yujiang’s series of actions in front of her, something in her heart softened imperceptibly.
She’d had no shortage of admirers expressing their affection, but this was the first time Yu Zhiwan encountered such a clumsy yet cautious approach veiling intentions, wanting to reach out yet maintaining a polite distance.
Yu Zhiwan curled her fingertips, absentmindedly tapping a dull sound from the wheelchair’s armrest as she said earnestly:
“She’s not an Alpha, and she’s quite silly, you can rest assured.”
