Transmigrated As A Beautiful Cannon Fodder Omega To Marry An Evil God Alpha In Place of Another - Chapter 30.1
A-Wu’s voice was now very close. Bai Rui didn’t bother opening his eyes, but he could clearly feel A-Wu’s magnetic presence right above his head. Then, he smelled a cold fragrance. The next second, the water beside him was disturbed with a splash.
Bai Rui finally lifted his eyelids. His watery, shimmering eyes caught a glimpse of a pale forearm, sleeve rolled up, dipping into the water and stirring it gently. The hand was long and elegant, the bones of the wrist possessing a powerful aesthetic. One could see the tendons beneath the skin, a single glance suggested great strength.
After stirring the water, A-Wu withdrew his hand, droplets falling from his pale fingertips. “Your Highness, the water is cooling. You’ll really catch a cold if you stay in longer.”
Bai Rui glanced at A-Wu and went back to resting his chin on the tub, staring blankly. His long eyelashes were damp and felt heavy, as if weighing down his eyelids. Just then, he caught the scent of butter in the air and couldn’t help but sniff deeply.
A-Wu felt as if he were watching a beautiful leopard cat sniffing for food. His brows twitched, but a smile tugged at his lips. Bai Rui hung there lazily, sniffing the air, and suddenly realized he was actually hungry.
Operating on the logic that “if I don’t know, there isn’t anything weird in it,” Bai Rui’s lips, reddened by the hot water, finally deigned to move: “Give me the bread. I’m hungry.”
A-Wu’s smile deepened. “How would you like to eat it?”
Bai Rui remained motionless. “Put it on the stool in front of me.”
Next came the sound of things being moved. A-Wu expertly stuffed the wet invisible cloak back into the universal pocket watch, tossed the watch onto the table, and dragged the small wooden stool to the front of Bai Rui. The plate of fragrant buttered toast was placed before him.
“There you go, Your Highness.”
Smelling the food at such close range, Bai Rui’s soul seemed to wake up. He broke out of his lethargy, his eyes sparkling as he looked at the delicious meal. In his mind, he kept telling himself: There’s nothing weird in it, there’s nothing weird in it… Taking one bite should be fine, right?
While he fought this internal battle, A-Wu stood with arms crossed, silently admiring his profile. Both were unaware of their own behavior, deeply immersed in their own states of mind.
After a while, Bai Rui slowly extended a hand from the water. His wet fingers gripped the silver fork, and he stabbed a piece of toast, bringing it to his mouth. He took the food slowly and ate even slower. His ruby lips pulled the bread into his mouth, his gaze fixed forward as he chewed. His pale cheeks moved with the rhythm of his chewing.
He eats so half-heartedly, no wonder he’s so thin, A-Wu thought, shaking his head.
After chewing one piece for a while, Bai Rui stabbed another. He remained hanging on the edge of the tub, chewing and swallowing in a daze. He looked like a sleepy kitten trying to force itself to eat. A-Wu watched for a long time, suddenly finding Bai Rui incredibly cute and interesting. He looked delicate and easy to bully, but he wasn’t, he hid sharp claws. Yet, he wasn’t entirely ruthless either, his heart was soft and kind. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have cared about freeing the slaves or taking A-Wu with him right before escaping.
Along the way, his perception of Bai Rui was constantly changing. Overall, though, his feelings were very positive. He had never met someone who suited his tastes so well, and he felt that his decision to follow him out was the right one.
After thinking for a while, Bai Rui had finished a few pieces of bread and was full. He put the fork back on the plate, and one of his arms stayed out of the water, forgotten. This time, A-Wu was truly helpless. He walked over, sighed, and held out his hand to Bai Rui, palm up.
“Your Highness, hand it over.”
“What?” Bai Rui opened his eyes a sliver. Looking at the pale hand in front of him, the corners of his eyes were flushed from the water and sleepiness, making his gaze look particularly alluring.
A-Wu looked deep into his eyes, a smirk playing on one side of his lips. “Your Highness, you should know what I’m talking about.”
Bai Rui seemed to process this for a moment. Then, his eyelids lifted, and his watery, flushed eyes flicked a glance at A-Wu. His long lashes were still misted, his eyes shimmering, a natural, intoxicating charm.
This sight caused A-Wu’s lower abdomen to tighten, and he swallowed hard. The two stared at each other for a long time. Finally, Bai Rui resignedly lowered his gaze, and his other hand came out of the water.
Along with it, he pulled out the dripping ram-head dagger.
“Your Highness, are you bathing or washing your knife?” A-Wu sighed and shook his head, taking the dagger. Turning around, he pulled the blade out, revealing the sharp cold edge. His narrowed eyes dropped to the dagger, the bronze handle and short blade were heavy and wet. His pale thumb brushed the edge, it wasn’t sharp, even a bit blunt.
So this was the legendary dagger that could pierce a dark god’s heart? A treasure of the Holy Light Empire? It looked quite useless. His lips curled, but he slid the blade back into the sheath and placed it on the table alongside the universal pocket watch.
Bai Rui didn’t say much about the dagger. With both arms draped over the edge of the tub, he hung there, his long lashes slowly closing. It was unclear if he was falling asleep, but his voice came out muddled: “Today, you and that An An…”
The voice was muffled by the misty water. A-Wu hummed an “En?” and leaned in closer. “What did you say?”
Bai Rui’s eyes, filled with the light of autumn waters, slowly moved to meet A-Wu’s narrowed gaze. For some reason, Bai Rui felt a bit awkward. But after a pause, he still asked, “That An An… doesn’t he have a good impression of you? Do you like him?”
One of A-Wu’s long eyebrows arched. He didn’t answer immediately, instead staring deeply at Bai Rui from a close distance.
Bai Rui continued, “Since you’re a prisoner who was rescued, you probably want a stable life, right? So why not stay in the town and try to get to know someone you like? What if, I’m just saying what if…” Bai Rui’s voice trembled almost imperceptibly, “What if the two of you are very suitable? Staying in this town wouldn’t be a bad choice. You could build a family together, live a peaceful life. He’s an Omega, maybe you’d even have children, living a quiet, steady, and smooth life. Isn’t that what you crave?”
Drip, drip.
Water flowed from the edge of the wooden tub to the floor, forming a small puddle. The room fell instantly silent. For a very long time, no one spoke. After what felt like an eternity, A-Wu finally moved his neck. With a tilt of his head, his muscles and bones made a series of cracking sounds.
A-Wu lowered his gaze, his eyes landing on Bai Rui’s lips, which were reddened by the hot water. He smiled. “The one I crave… isn’t him.”
Bai Rui’s long lashes trembled. “Then…”
“Who do you crave?”
