- Chapter 109 - I Will Not Do It, Even If It Causes Her the Slightest Discomfort
“Are they all here?”
“Yes, they are!”
Ling Guang and Mu Fu-an joyfully brought back the remaining three spirit herbs. Although the herbs were not yet fully grown, Ming Yu stated that their medicinal efficacy was sufficient.
Zhao Chen was self-studying the zither manual left behind by Mo Huai-sheng, and she had indeed learned a thing or two. From only being able to pluck one or two notes by borrowing the bloodline of the Slaughter Vermilion Black Tortoise, she could now play for a while smoothly. Zhao Chen had only spent two days.
“I didn’t expect you to have a talent for playing the zither,” Cang Wu stood by Zhao Chen’s side, turning her head to see Zhao Chen’s one red and one blue eyes staring intently at her, a strange smile curling on her lips.
Cang Wu looked at her and, with a blank expression, raised her hand.
Her hand chopped down mercilessly onto the back of Zhao Chen’s neck, and the person immediately fell down limply.
Pale green spiritual energy supported Zhao Chen, placing her onto the bed. Cang Wu turned to look at the two people descending from the second floor.
Ming Yu, having recovered a bit from her injury, walked in front, with Xie Qing-shuang following her step-by-step.
Mu Fu-an brought all the spirit herbs for the antidote prescription, holding them up to Ming Yu. “A-jie.”
Ming Yu examined them, then looked up at Cang Wu. The most important medicinal ingredient was in Cang Wu’s hand.
Cang Wu flipped her hand, revealing a short knife. The tip of the knife pierced her palm, slicing along the root of the Glazed Lilac Leaf, and finally pulling it out along with her flesh and blood.
Ling Guang, standing beside her, frowned deeply, as if the pain were her own.
“Doesn’t it hurt?” Ling Guang whispered.
Cang Wu compressed her lips, not answering, but the hair at her temples was already soaked with sweat. The hand gripping the knife and the spiritual herb was trembling.
Only when she handed the Glazed Lilac Leaf to Mu Fu-an did Cang Wu finally release her tightly clenched teeth.
[To abuse yourself like this, you will never be able to advance your cultivation in this lifetime, let alone break the restraints in your body.] The Spirit King’s voice was frigid, carrying a hint of frustrated anger.
“What does cultivation count for? If I can save Senior Sister, I will gladly do it, even if I have to extract my dragon tendons and shave off my dragon bones,” Cang Wu answered brokenly.
The Spirit King gasped, seemingly too enraged to respond.
The complete antidote prescription was ready. Ming Yu informed Elder Yu of the method of detoxification and how to administer these spirit herbs.
Mu Fu-an listened nearby, asking doubtfully, “Is A-jie not refining the medicine?”
Ming Yu lowered her gaze to her half-opened palm, letting out a soft, self-mocking laugh. “My hands cannot refine medicine; they can only hold a blade.”
Mu Fu-an said no more.
Upon hearing the method of detoxification from Ming Yu, Elder Yu was instantly enlightened and could no longer remain calm. As she prepared the furnace for refining the medicine, she murmured to herself, “So that’s it, so that’s it! What a genius, Ji Lan, you truly are a genius! To be so audacious—you actually dare to use two such powerful and dangerous medicines.”
Hearing her words, an image slowly appeared before Ming Yu’s eyes: a woman in plain robes bending down to check the spirit herbs in the medicinal field. Her long, dark hair hung down, obscuring half of her jade-like face. Hearing a sound, the woman reached up, brushed the hair from her cheek, and looked over with gentle eyes, a faint, helpless smile on her lips. “Little Yu’er, why did you bring Little Li out again? Her health is frail; what if she gets sick from the wind?”
Her vision shifted, and Ming Yu saw herself, then only as tall as the woman’s waist, holding the hand of an even smaller Ming Li.
She replied to the woman, “Mother, you cannot coddle Little Li so much. If her health is frail, she needs to go out more. If she gets sick, I will prescribe medicine for her. I can treat illnesses now, too.”
Her gaze unfocused, Ming Yu’s eyes felt a little sore. She blinked and turned to enter the pavilion. Besides the prescription and the method of detoxification, she also needed to tell them how to enter the spiritual platform and bring out the two people’s souls.
Ming Yu handed the two unopened buds of the Glazed Lilac Leaf to Cang Wu and Ling Guang, instructing them, “After they have taken the medicine, you will be able to see their spiritual platforms with these seeds. Since this Glazed Lilac Leaf grew by consuming your blood, it will not harm you and will make it easier to see their trapped souls.”
Cang Wu looked at the bright red, translucent bud in her hand, her heart immediately stirring with excitement and anticipation.
Her Senior Sister would wake up soon.
[Did you forget that Lan Yan’s soul is still inside her? Don’t be happy too soon; she won’t let you save Lord Lan Shan that easily.] The Spirit King reminded her. [If you encounter her, use this opportunity to destroy her directly, to prevent future trouble.]
Cang Wu’s expression slowly calmed down, and she began to contemplate the Spirit King’s words.
This was indeed an excellent opportunity, but if she took action on the spiritual platform, would she harm Senior Sister?
[Her soul is trapped in the Bodhi Heart; she won’t know, and she won’t be harmed. I will not deceive you.]
Cang Wu’s mouth twitched, utterly disdainful of her words. “You hate Lan Yan. Even though you’ve killed her once, you still can’t stand her existing in this world, even if only as a soul. You want her dead.”
The Spirit King was silent for a moment, then spoke very casually, [I’ve told you so much and helped you. You can easily help me kill her; it’s a small matter.]
“I certainly can, but I must ensure that taking action will have absolutely no impact on my Senior Sister. I will not do it, even if it causes her the slightest discomfort.”
[…I truly didn’t expect that deep down, I am still a hopeless romantic.]
Cang Wu’s face instantly darkened. “This is the last time. You are you, and I am me. Senior Sister is only my Senior Sister and has absolutely nothing to do with you.”
The Spirit King’s indifferent sneer was her only reply.
After about another fifteen minutes, Elder Yu approached with two bowls of medicine. The quantity in the bowls was not much; this was all there was.
“Hurry, there is no second Glazed Lilac Leaf,” Ming Yu urged.
Although Zhao Chen’s zither music had awakened a large portion of the spirit herbs on Mount Changze, there was no Glazed Lilac Leaf. The one Cang Wu and Mu Fu-an found was currently the only one.
Cang Wu and Ling Guang exchanged glances, nodded in mutual understanding, and fed the medicine to the two people on the bed.
After administering the medicine, Cang Wu held the flower bud in one hand and drew a wisp of her soul from her forehead with the other, placing it before Lord Lan Shan’s forehead.
The moment before her consciousness transferred to the spiritual platform, Cang Wu seemed to hear a bell ringing.
In the next instant, that wisp of soul stepped onto an unfamiliar spiritual platform. The platform was currently dim and grey. Cang Wu called out, “Senior Sister.”
The sound echoed, like ripples on the water, layer upon layer.
Suddenly, her palm felt hot. Cang Wu saw a line of blood following her palm, delving forward into the endless darkness. She was immediately overjoyed and quickly followed the bloodline.
After walking dozens of steps, a light suddenly appeared before her eyes. Cang Wu ran faster toward it.
“Senior Sister! Senior Sister!” Cang Wu looked excitedly at the woman sitting cross-legged within the barrier.
She reached out to touch the barrier, and the barrier rippled like water. Where it was touched by the Glazed Lilac Leaf bud, a small opening cracked. Seeing this, Cang Wu used the bud in her hand to completely dissolve the barrier.
“Senior Sister,” Cang Wu knelt down in front of the woman, softening her voice.
The seemingly sleeping person slowly opened her eyes and revealed a gentle smile upon seeing Cang Wu.
Seeing this smile, Cang Wu’s expression instantly changed, and she swung her palm without hesitation.
The figure before her dissipated. Cang Wu stood up, her eyes cold. “Lan Yan.”
“You know me?” Lan Yan’s voice carried surprise, along with a subtle tremble—a primal fear of Cang Wu.
She had already been killed by Cang Wu once.
“Could it be that you, too…?” Lan Yan spoke, then suddenly rushed out from the darkness nearby, a sword in her hand. “If that is truly the case, then you certainly deserve to die!”
Cang Wu moved aside to dodge. Her soul suddenly felt an intense pressure; her movement slowed for a moment, and Lan Yan’s sword tip instantly grazed her shoulder.
Injury to the soul is comparable to the tearing of the flesh, encompassing the tendons and meridians. At best, it results in a drop in cultivation; at worst, it means the annihilation of the soul.
Cang Wu’s soul flickered, and her body outside spat out a large mouthful of blood. Ling Guang was shocked and immediately reached out to steady her.
“Elder Yu!”
Elder Yu had already arrived. She looked at Cang Wu with a grave expression. Upon learning that her soul was fighting inside with someone, she immediately cried out in alarm, “Get out!”
Cang Wu clenched her jaw, stubbornly insisting, “I must bring Senior Sister back!”
With that, her entire soul completely entered the spiritual platform. By the time Elder Yu tried to stop her, it was too late.
Elder Yu’s face turned pale. She closed her eyes. “It’s over.”
Ling Guang, unable to attend to both, gritted her teeth and calmed her mind to search for Xiao Jiu’s soul.
With her soul departed from her body, Cang Wu’s body presented a half-demon form. Mu Fu-an helped place her on the bed, then slowly moved next to Ming Yu, quietly asking, “Why does Elder Yu look so terrible?”
Ming Yu looked at her for a moment with some silence, causing her some unease, before she explained, “To enter another person’s spiritual platform with one’s entire soul is simply courting death. Within the Four Seas, apart from those few elder predecessors who are only one lightning tribulation away from becoming immortal… no one dares to do that.”
Mu Fu-an’s eyes widened upon hearing this. She then looked at Cang Wu. “Then… then Cang Wu…”
Ming Yu gave a light ‘hmph.’ “To disregard one’s own life for the sake of one person—she has the mind of a child.”
Inside the Spiritual Platform.
Cang Wu endured the pressure of the spiritual platform. Her body felt uncomfortably as if it were about to burst, while Lan Yan was laughing in front of her. The face that resembled her Senior Sister turned terribly ugly because of Lan Yan’s expression.
Cang Wu’s hand felt itchy; she wanted to peel that mask off.
“Cang Wu, you are truly daring. To enter my spiritual platform with your entire soul—are you not afraid of your soul being annihilated?” Lan Yan spoke, her face carrying the triumphant relief of a great revenge about to be exacted.
“Then let’s try it. Whose soul will be annihilated in the end?” Cang Wu flicked her wrist, and Bu Jin instantly transformed into the shape of a sword, its two edges formed by countless tiny blades.
Lan Yan looked at Bu Jin in her hand, a fleeting trace of greed in her eyes.
The two souls rapidly approached. Their sword edges collided. Cang Wu’s sword was fast, but under the pressure of the spiritual platform, a fast sword would also slow down. The two fought back and forth for a time.
This entanglement further convinced Lan Yan that victory was within her grasp; the current Cang Wu was simply not as powerful as she was in the previous life.
But soon, the smile on Lan Yan’s face vanished. A cloud of blood mist suddenly arose around Cang Wu.
“Hidden Blood Art!” Lan Yan gritted her teeth and tried to flee, but the blood mist had completely engulfed her. Wherever she went, the blood mist followed.
“Cang Wu, you are fighting unfairly!”
“Under your spiritual platform, you accuse me of fighting unfairly? Ludicrous!” Cang Wu’s vision was unimpeded within the blood mist. She pursued Lan Yan, and her eyes were tinged with red due to the Hidden Blood Art.
Just as the tip of her sword was about to pierce Lan Yan’s back, a golden lotus flower instantly bloomed, directly blocking Cang Wu’s sword.
She retracted her force by twisting her wrist. Cang Wu looked at the lotus flower on Lan Yan’s body in surprise.
This was the magical artifact that Ling Guang had made for her Senior Sister. Why was it on Lan Yan?!
Lan Yan stopped and let out a brief laugh. She smiled and said, “I almost forgot about this thing.”
Cang Wu narrowed her eyes, watching Lan Yan pull out a palm-sized lotus flower from behind her. In the center of the lotus was a sparkling golden egg.
With just one glance, Cang Wu confirmed it was her Dragon Egg.
“With it here, you can’t hurt me,” Lan Yan said smugly.
“Is that so?”
Cang Wu raised her hand unhurriedly. Dragon breath instantly released, the aura belonging to the Azure Dragon filling the entire spiritual platform.
“Lan Yan, there’s one thing you might not know: the bloodlines of the Four Quadrants are protected by the Heavenly Dao.”
Lan Yan frowned. Just as she was thinking, Cang Wu’s sword had already reached her, slashing directly at the egg in her hand.
Mount Changze’s peak was instantly covered with dark clouds, lightning flashing and thunder rolling.
