- Chapter 107 - Even with the Glazed Serried Leaves, They Cannot Be Saved
“You know my identity. As a descendant of the Valley of Spiritual Medicine, how could I not know how to cure poison?”
Hearing Ming Yu say this, Xie Qingshuang remembered Mohuaisheng’s earlier words—that Mu Fuan was likely a descendant of the Valley of Spiritual Medicine.
She asked: “Were there other people who escaped from the Valley of Spiritual Medicine back then?”
Ming Yu’s eyelashes fluttered. She looked at her with a complicated expression: “What do you mean?”
Xie Qingshuang did not hide it and told her about Mu Fuan.
“Mu Fuan?” In Ming Yu’s mind, a timid, inconspicuous figure surfaced. That face was completely unfamiliar; it bore no resemblance to any of the Valley of Spiritual Medicine’s aunties.
How could she be…?
Wait, no. Ming Yu suddenly looked up, then urgently pushed Xie Qingshuang away, trying to get out of bed. The white cloth wrapping her wound was instantly stained red with blood. The wound had clearly burst open.
“Where are you going?” Xie Qingshuang held her up.
Ming Yu grabbed Xie Qingshuang’s hand, urgently saying: “Where is she? Take me to see her!”
“Hurry!”
Xie Qingshuang watched her for a moment. Just as the other party grew impatient and was about to shake off her hand, she suddenly bent down and picked her up. The room door opened automatically.
Mu Fuan was downstairs right now, chin resting on her hand, staring blankly at Lanshan Jun and Xiao Jiu.
Xie Qingshuang carried Ming Yu directly toward her. Coincidentally, Zhaochen and Mohuaisheng also entered together. Mohuaisheng looked confused by the scene.
Mu Fuan was startled at first, then stood up awkwardly, looking at the two people in front of her and asking: “Wh… what is it?”
Ming Yu was already set down by Xie Qingshuang. She stared intently at Mu Fuan, her voice hoarse: “Were you rescued from Changze Mountain and taken back to the Valley of A Thousand Poisons?”
Mu Fuan glanced at Mohuaisheng.
“Answer me!” Ming Yu suddenly raised her voice slightly.
Mohuaisheng frowned and stepped forward, placing a hand protectively over Mu Fuan. She looked at Ming Yu with displeasure: “Can’t you speak properly?”
Xie Qingshuang also pulled Ming Yu’s arm, trying to remind her to calm down.
Although startled, Mu Fuan was not alone. She boldly looked into Ming Yu’s eyes: “Yes.”
This was the result of the Soul Search; it cannot be wrong.
Ming Yu nodded and said: “Good.”
Then, before anyone could react, Ming Yu suddenly struck Mu Fuan. A palm of spiritual power slammed directly into Mu Fuan’s chest.
Mohuaisheng reacted, grabbing Mu Fuan, who was stumbling backward, while gathering spiritual power in her other hand to counter Ming Yu. However, this strike was blocked by the instantly intervening Xie Qingshuang. Their palms met, and the collision of spiritual power caused the pavilion to visibly shake.
“Senior Sister Xie! Didn’t you see she struck first!?” Mohuaisheng looked at Ming Yu with ill-will, and at the same time, she couldn’t understand why Xie Qingshuang insisted on staying with this kind of person.
Mu Fuan was hit in the chest. She staggered to stabilize herself. A burning sensation suddenly erupted in her chest. The intense stinging pain made her cry out involuntarily, and her knees buckled.
Mohuaisheng quickly withdrew her hand to check on her: “Fuan!?”
“It hurts so much—!” Mu Fuan gritted her teeth, one hand pressed tightly against her chest. Dense beads of sweat instantly broke out on her face and neck.
Seeing her in such agony, Mohuaisheng anxiously looked at her chest. She saw a special mark appear beneath her palm, seemingly penetrating her flesh and blood for all to see.
“What did you do to her!?” Mohuaisheng demanded coldly of Ming Yu.
Ming Yu’s gaze was fixed on the mark emerging from Mu Fuan’s chest. She murmured: “It really is you…”
Hearing her words, Xie Qingshuang understood. This confirmed Mu Fuan’s identity—she was indeed a descendant of the Valley of Spiritual Medicine.
Elder Yu walked in with a strained face. Seeing the messy scene, she scolded: “Why don’t you just fight? Fight it out, tear down this house, and let those two die outside!”
What a bunch of bothersome brats!
Mohuaisheng mumbled with a hint of grievance, sounding like she was complaining: “Ming Yu attacked first.”
Elder Yu walked over with a cold face. Seeing the white cloth on Ming Yu’s shoulder completely stained with blood, her face darkened further. She didn’t bother to explain and immediately pressed her hand directly onto Ming Yu’s wound to stop the bleeding.
Ming Yu shuddered instantly from the pain, matching the agony of Mu Fuan opposite her.
While she could have used spiritual power, Elder Yu deliberately used the most painful method. Ming Yu understood this perfectly. Cold sweat poured down her forehead, yet she managed a small smile.
Elder Yu scoffed: “Still smiling? If you die here, it would be a return to your homeland, a true annihilation of your whole clan.”
Ming Yu was not surprised that Elder Yu knew her identity. She had heard her elders mention this person when she was young, and in vague memories, she recalled seeing her visit the Valley of Spiritual Medicine for a brief stay.
“Not a complete annihilation of the clan.” Ming Yu’s gaze fell upon Mu Fuan, her eyes softening. “There is still Ming Li.”
Ming Li.
Everyone’s eyes turned to Mu Fuan. Even Mu Fuan herself was surprised and bewildered, wondering why they were all looking at her like that.
“Is she really from the Ming family?” Elder Yu asked.
Ming Yu nodded. She took a breath before saying: “I was protected by my mother and survived that year. When I returned to Changze Mountain, I searched for the remains of my clan members and buried them. The only one I couldn’t find was Ming Li. I thought she was too young and her body couldn’t withstand the spiritual fire, so she had been scattered in the flames. I never expected…”
Ming Yu spoke, looking at Mu Fuan.
“How can you be sure that Mu Fuan is Ming Li?”
Ming Yu pointed to the mark on Mu Fuan’s chest: “That is the mark of the Black-bellied Scarlet-Gold Serpent. When the Liu family falsely accused the Valley of Spiritual Medicine, everyone in the valley was branded with this mark. As long as the flesh is not dead, the mark will not vanish.”
The mark on Mu Fuan’s chest had faded, and the pain had disappeared with it. She slowly steadied herself and stood up, looking at Ming Yu with a complicated expression: “Are you from the Valley of Spiritual Medicine?”
“Yes, I am your elder sister, Ming Yu.” Ming Yu smiled at Mu Fuan, her eyes glistening with tears.
She had carried the deep vengeance of her entire clan, her hands stained with blood, forcing herself to be cold and ruthless. She thought she was alone in this dangerous world, never expecting that there was still a blood relative connected to her.
“Elder Sister…” Mu Fuan murmured softly. Suddenly learning her background and having an elder sister, she wasn’t particularly happy. The ripple of emotion was no more than a small stone dropped into a lake, quickly smoothing out after a splash.
But hearing Ming Yu’s words, Mu Fuan wasn’t afraid of her anymore. She looked straight at her.
Ming Yu looked at her. She couldn’t match this person with the cute, round child she remembered. Ming Li’s eyes were large and round, black, and exceptionally bright—the most spirited and likable child in the Valley of Spiritual Medicine. Yet, Mu Fuan’s eyes drooped, her lips were thin and downturned, and her whole demeanor was melancholic.
If not for Elder Yu’s Soul Search and the Black-bellied Scarlet-Gold Serpent’s mark, she would never have guessed that Mu Fuan was Ming Li.
“You look a little different from when you were little. Elder Sister failed to recognize you sooner,” Ming Yu said.
Elder Yu sighed: “It’s normal that you didn’t recognize her. She was resurrected from death and was given a new layer of skin, changing her appearance.”
Ming Yu looked at Elder Yu in surprise. Elder Yu had no choice but to recount what she had seen during the Soul Search.
…
“So that’s how it is…” Ming Yu felt a loss of strength and leaned on Xie Qingshuang. The look in her eyes toward Mu Fuan was filled with distress and self-reproach.
Mu Fuan pursed her lips. She didn’t like the feeling of being constantly watched. She shifted her body slightly, hiding behind Mohuaisheng. “I don’t remember any of those things.”
If it weren’t for the Soul Search, she might never have recalled any of this.
Therefore, Ming Yu didn’t need to look at her like that. She didn’t know how to respond. Her familial ties were very shallow. After Aunt Mu brought her back to the Valley of A Thousand Poisons, not long after she started forming memories, Aunt Mu broke her leg and confined herself to her room. Although she would go to greet her every day, Aunt Mu would only see her once every few months. More often, she was with Mu Liu and the other children of the Valley of A Thousand Poisons, or rather, was the object of their bullying and games.
When Ming Yu saw the distance and indifference in Mu Fuan’s eyes, her heart felt heavy and choked.
“Elder Sister.”
Mu Fuan suddenly called out.
Joy flashed across Ming Yu’s eyes, but when she looked over, she heard the other party ask: “Does Elder Sister know the cure for Reincarnation?”
The smile faded little by little. Mu Fuan had only called her “Elder Sister” to ask for the cure, to save Lanshan Jun and Xiao Jiu.
The hand at her side slowly clenched, then gradually released.
“Yes, I do,” Ming Yu said softly. “I can save them, but there is one indispensable ingredient in the cure.”
Lanshan Jun and Xiao Jiu had once saved Mu Fuan as well.
“The Glazed Serried Leaves?”
As Mohuaisheng asked the question, two people burst through the door outside. Lingguang shouted: “Glazed Serried Leaves! Glazed Serried Leaves!”
Cangwu walked in, holding a blood-red spiritual herb in both hands. Seeing the two extra people, the smile on her face vanished.
Lingguang helped Cangwu along and pulled her over to Elder Yu: “Elder Yu, look! Has this Glazed Serried Leaves fully grown?”
Cangwu slowly opened her hands. Elder Yu’s breathing instantly caught, and anger flushed her face. She pointed directly at Cangwu, ready to scold: “You—!”
The harsh words were ultimately suppressed by her self-control.
Cangwu hadn’t brought the Glazed Serried Leaves back intact; she had planted the spiritual herb directly in her palm, feeding it her blood to promote its growth.
Cangwu’s face was pale. Lingguang was still stuffing nourishing pills into her mouth.
“The soil on Changze Mountain was too hot. It couldn’t survive. I couldn’t let it die.”
“Then weren’t you afraid it would drain you dry?” Elder Yu clutched her chest, feeling short of breath. Fortunately, Zhaochen, who was nearby, reached out to support her.
“It won’t. Lingguang and I have plenty of medicine, and I used my spiritual power to restrict its roots,” Cangwu said, adding: “Don’t worry, Elder Yu.”
Worry? How can I not worry?
Elder Yu took two deep breaths, starting to feel like she really was getting old.
She waved her hand. Elder Yu, who had waist-length dark hair, now looked as if half of it had turned white.
“Don’t show it to me, show it to Ming Yu. She has the cure.”
Cangwu and Lingguang both looked at the person Elder Yu referred to, their eyes filled with suspicion and scrutiny.
How could Ming Yu have the cure?
Ming Yu’s attitude toward the two of them was far less gentle than it had been toward Mu Fuan. She let out a cold scoff: “If you don’t believe me, then watch them die here. Without the cure, even with the Glazed Serried Leaves, they cannot be saved.”
“Carry me up,” Ming Yu collapsed, unable to support herself, into Xie Qingshuang’s arms.
Xie Qingshuang bent down and carried her upstairs. The two quickly disappeared from everyone’s sight.
“What’s going on?” Lingguang leaned close to Zhaochen and asked.
Zhaochen blinked: “I don’t know everything either. Huaisheng should explain.”
Lingguang then looked to Mohuaisheng. Cangwu had already hurried over to her Senior Sister, holding the flower.
Mohuaisheng took a deep breath and recounted the entire sequence of events.
Lingguang was still processing the information after hearing it: “Ming Yu is from the Valley of Spiritual Medicine, and Fuan is too? And they’re sisters?”
“If she truly is a descendant of the Valley of Spiritual Medicine, it’s possible she has the cure for Reincarnation. Didn’t Elder Yu say the Valley Master had researched Reincarnation before?”
“Since we have the cure, Lingguang, do you know when Qingcheng will arrive? Creating a new body for Lanshan will take time,” Mohuaisheng asked.
Lingguang’s expression grew serious: “The sea demons are attacking Fuyu Isle. Qingcheng might not be able to get here for another day or two.”
“Attacking Fuyu Isle!?” Mohuaisheng said in disbelief. She then frowned, thinking of the Listening Snow Tower. She instinctively reached for her waist, but feeling nothing, realized her jade token was already shattered.
Lingguang nodded: “It is said there’s a faction called the Abyss Eye. It includes not only sea demons but also disciples from Immortal Sects and rogue cultivators. They want to cause chaos in the Four Seas, especially targeting the Four Halls.”
Hearing this, Mohuaisheng’s heart suddenly filled with dread.
If Fuyu Isle was under attack, then what about the Listening Snow Tower?
