- Too Late to Regret, She’s Now With the Big Boss
- Chapter 75 - Naturally Understand Each Other
“Grandpa, are you just going to let Third Uncle do whatever he wants? No matter how big the issue is, is it more important than the Lu Corporation?” Lu Zhenting asked sharply.
He had known since childhood that his grandfather deeply loved his third grandmother. As he grew older, he came across the term “love brain” online to describe his grandfather’s behavior.
And those with love brains naturally understand each other, no wonder Grandpa had no intention of stopping Third Uncle.
After exchanging a few polite words, Lu Zhenting hung up and immediately called his father. “Dad, how have you and Mom been lately?”
“Everything’s fine! I go fishing with a few friends every morning, play golf or go horseback riding in the afternoon, and sometimes I even feel inspired to paint.”
“Dad, haven’t you thought about persuading Third Uncle?” Lu Zhenting hesitated but decided to speak directly.
“Me, persuade your Third Uncle? Zhenting, have you been working yourself silly lately? I’ve told you before not to push yourself so hard. The dividends our family receives in a year are more than what some CEOs earn killing themselves with work. What are you striving for?”
He didn’t voice the thought, “Besides, I haven’t seen you achieve anything remarkable,” fearing it would hurt his son’s pride.
Lu’s eldest uncle was perfectly content with his current life. His third brother had not only made the Lu Corporation the top enterprise in Rongcheng but had also earned it a global reputation.
“……” Lu Zhenting was left speechless by his father’s words.
“Zhenting, if you’re tired, just come back. After all, your Third Uncle is capable. I know you want to prove yourself to him. When I was young, I also wanted to achieve something, but business just isn’t my forte. Back when the Lu Corporation was on the verge of collapse, your Second Uncle and I tried to hold it up. Even with the support of the Wen and Li families, we couldn’t turn things around. Thankfully, your Third Uncle stepped in, he was only fifteen at the time! Zhenting, you must respect your Third Uncle. Without him, we’d be no different from ordinary people now!”
“……” His father’s words dissolved any resentment Lu Zhenting had toward his Third Uncle, and he ended the call hastily.
Truthfully, he didn’t dare hold any real grudge against his Third Uncle. It was just that Yanyan had called him in tears, complaining that Ye Qianqian had bewitched his Third Uncle and was bullying her every chance she got, which unsettled him.
His feelings toward Ye Qianqian had always been complicated. He remembered the first time he saw her, so dark and thin. In that moment, he felt pity for her. When he saw classmates bullying her, he wanted to step in and help, but Song Yuntao beat him to it.
He deeply regretted his hesitation.
It wasn’t that Ye Qianqian meant anything special to him, but rather because he and Song Yuntao were rivals.
They were the same age, he was the eldest grandson of the Lu family, and Song Yuntao was the eldest grandson of the Song family. Since childhood, they had competed over everything: from clothes and grades to girls.
They were two years older than Ye Qingyan, and the three of them attended the same schools from elementary through high school. As her seniors, they had vied for Ye Qingyan’s attention back when his Third Uncle hadn’t yet returned from abroad and the Lu family wasn’t as influential.
Initially, they both competed for Ye Qingyan alone. But after Ye Qianqian returned to the Ye family, they grew tired of the rivalry. He and Song Yuntao agreed that each would protect one of the sisters. However, Yanyan told him she liked him.
Logically, if Yanyan liked him, then Song Yuntao should have been the one to look after Ye Qianqian. But Song Yuntao insisted that Yanyan liked him instead, claiming she had said so herself.
When the two of them confronted Yanyan, they ended up making her cry, which made them too afraid to confront her face-to-face again.
At sixteen, Ye Qianqian had blossomed and grown much fairer. He wanted to protect her wholeheartedly.
But Yanyan gave her first kiss to him. When he went to show off to Song Yuntao, Song shamelessly claimed that Yanyan had kissed him!
How could that be?
Yanyan was so pure and adorable… how could she possibly toy with their feelings?
He felt that Ye Qianqian was useless, unable to capture Song Yuntao’s heart, allowing him to compete for Yanyan.
By the time he was sixteen, he already held a prejudice against Ye Qianqian, and as time went on, he found her increasingly irritating.
Later, Song Yuntao got into a car accident, Yanyan went abroad, and Ye Qianqian chose Song Yuntao.
Even though he didn’t like Ye Qianqian at all, he hated her deeply when she chose Song Yuntao.
By then, the Lu family had already become the top family in Rongcheng, no longer on equal footing with the Song family!
His status was far above Song Yuntao’s, yet Yanyan would rather go abroad alone than choose him.
What infuriated him even more was that Ye Qianqian willingly chose a cripple over him!
Looking back now, Yanyan truly had been playing him and Song Yuntao, while Ye Qianqian had suffered from their long-standing favoritism.
After eight years of physical and emotional torment, even the proudest spirit would be crushed and smoothed over. Ye Qianqian felt that only the crippled Song Yuntao would accept her!
Later on, things spiraled completely out of control. No one expected that his formidable third uncle would grow so fond of her!
Ye Qianqian had no idea where Lu Zhenting was, let alone that he had made countless calls trying to tarnish her reputation.
Now, she sat leisurely on Lu Jingchen’s lap, accepting his feeding. “Baby, I want some vegetables. A balanced diet with both meat and greens is healthier.”
“Open up, sweetheart. Forget vegetables, I’d even get you dragon’s liver if I could,” Lu Jingchen said dotingly.
“You’re so good to me, hubby. I’m so happy with you. Without you, my life would have no joy.”
“Is that the truth, sweetheart? I seem to recall a certain ungrateful little one calling me a dog just an hour ago.”
“Who are you calling ungrateful? Isn’t the one who bites the dog?” Ye Qianqian retorted, glaring at him.
But it wasn’t a glare, it was more like a coquettish tease.
Lu Jingchen’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and he kissed her without hesitation.
Ye Qianqian was left breathless and dazed. “Are you trying to starve me, baby?”
“My fault entirely. Let’s keep feeding my little baby,” Lu Jingchen coaxed gently.
“No, I won’t eat. You just accused me of calling you a dog,” Ye Qianqian pouted, deliberately keeping her mouth shut.
“Wife, I was wrong. I’m the dog. Now open up and eat, sweetheart. Don’t go hungry.”
“What exactly were you wrong about?”
“Anything that makes my sweetheart unhappy is my fault as your husband.” Lu Jingchen didn’t actually know what he’d done wrong, but he didn’t dare ask, afraid that his little ancestor would go hungry and break his heart.
Ye Qianqian gazed at Lu Jingchen, feeling that her current life was truly blissful. The man everyone feared, the “Living King of Hell,” was incredibly considerate.
Especially after he had satisfied his own desires, his attentiveness toward her knew no bounds.
When she was too tired and fell asleep, he would gently wipe her clean with a warm towel.
When she lacked the energy to get up and eat, he would carry her onto his lap, letting her keep her eyes closed while he fed her.
There were countless other thoughtful details, but beyond all that, his character alone stood the test of time.
While Ye Qianqian was relaxed and carefree, Wen Yuxin was incredibly nervous. As usual, she was having a meal with Butler Zhang and Zhang Tianyi.
Just as they were finishing, Butler Zhang suddenly said, “Tianyi, Yuxin, it’s been a week since you two got your marriage certificate. Starting tonight, you’ll be living together.”
