- Too Late to Regret, She’s Now With the Big Boss
- Chapter 44 - Thank Goodness for the Bullet Comments
In the second-floor bedroom, after a night of fierce wind and rain, Ye Qianqian opened her eyes to meet a gaze still clouded with lingering desire.
“Wife, you’re awake? Are you tired? How about having lunch and then resting a bit more?” Lu Jingchen’s voice was clear, suggesting he had been awake for a while.
He leaned down, his warm breath brushing against her face, his tone carrying an indescribable tenderness.
“Tired, and hungry,” Ye Qianqian managed to croak out three hoarse words.
Hungry? yes, since it was already noon.
Tired? Not really. She had rested well enough. But hey, sometimes it’s good to play a little weak.
“Have some warm water first. It’s my fault for not holding back and tiring you out. The soup is ready. I’ll carry you to the hot spring pool, you can soak while drinking the soup, and I’ll go make a few more dishes.”
As he spoke, Lu Jingchen lifted her and headed toward his private hot spring pool on the second floor, even preparing her toothbrush and toothpaste for her.
“Thank you, hubby.” After drinking half a glass of warm water, Ye Qianqian’s voice regained its soft, sweet tone.
The look of heartache and concern on Lu Jingchen’s face was something Ye Qianqian had never seen from anyone before.
In the eyes of the Ye and Song families, she was made of steel: unfeeling, untiring, and as obedient as a dog. Whenever they needed her, they’d just crook a finger, and she’d rush to their side without hesitation.
But now, Lu Jingchen was the one acting like she used to. The difference was, she wouldn’t be as heartless as those people, at least she knew how to be grateful.
While Ye Qianqian sipped her soup, Lu Jingchen quickly prepared several dishes. The two of them sat under the second-floor sunroom, eating while admiring the flowers.
Full and content, Ye Qianqian lounged lazily on the rocking chair and asked, “Hubby, are you not going to the company today?”
“I’ll go in a few days. The newly hired maids haven’t been vetted yet, and I don’t trust them around you. I’d rather handle your meals and clothes myself.”
“Oh, right! Bai Lang dug up a box at the entrance of Xie Yun’s hometown village. He had it tested overnight, and it really was your hair and nails inside.”
“Ah? Should we confront Xie Yun about it, or just destroy it?” Ye Qianqian’s voice rose slightly.
“Neither. Xie Yun lied before, so I don’t trust her. And destroying it outright isn’t an option. I’ve asked the abbot of Fodu Temple to handle it. Don’t worry, wife… I’ll take care of everything.”
Lu Jingchen’s deep voice barely suppressed his fury. He didn’t tell Ye Qianqian that Xie Yun had sought out a mystic to swap her fate, he was afraid of scaring her.
No wonder she had been so unlucky, it was a miracle she was even alive!
Ye Qianqian noticed the terrifying aura suddenly emanating from Lu Jingchen, but just as it was about to erupt, he forcefully reined it in.
Pretending not to notice, she smiled sweetly and said, “Alright then. You go work in the study, and I’ll lie here and sunbathe for a bit before joining you.”
“Okay. Call me if you need anything even if it’s just to avoid an unwanted phone call.” Reluctantly, Lu Jingchen headed to the second-floor study.
He really had a lot to deal with, Lu Corporation matters, his wife’s affairs, and especially the newly hired maids for Ye Qianqian.
One maid in particular made him suspicious. He had no memory of ever seeing her face or her mannerisms before, but something about her gaze felt familiar. That alone was enough to raise doubts, even though Bai Lang’s background check on her came back clean.
She was a distant relative of the Li family, raised in the countryside, excelling in studies, and had recently returned from studying abroad.
[The female antagonist really knows how to enjoy life. She doesn’t look tired at all, clearly just toying with the big boss. Luckily, he’s willing to take the bait.]
[A freeloader like her who does nothing but eat and sleep only exists in novels and dreams.]
[True. Dreams have everything, but novels are even wilder, there’s nothing you can’t imagine.]
[That’s just poverty limiting my imagination. The rich live like this, but sadly, her good days won’t last much longer!]
[Go on, why won’t they last? Is the big boss going bankrupt?]
[The woman whose face was skinned by him is back. Her father used the old madam’s connections to help the Lu family’s in-laws, the Li family.]
[The Li family repaid the favor by sending their daughter to Korea for plastic surgery and forging her a new identity. Now she’s back for revenge.]
Ye Qianqian: Holy crap! There’s such a thing? Is that woman coming back to kill the Living King of Hell?
No way. The Living King of Hell is her meal ticket… no, her legal husband now.
She’s satisfied with him in every way.
This life is exactly what she’s dreamed of a thousand times. She can’t let that woman ruin it. Thank goodness for the bullet comments!
The Li family, wasn’t that Li Xiangwei’s family?
Last time, they were nearly bankrupted by the Living King of Hell, and she had felt a little guilty. Turns out, fate had its own justice, serves them right.
Ye Qianqian stopped sunbathing… well, she had gotten enough sun for the day anyway.
She changed into a simple white dress, soft and comfortable, with a unique design.
She glanced at the mirror, not too revealing, but exuding endless charm.
It was eye-catching enough to wear outside, yet Lu Jingchen had stored it in the loungewear closet.
Guess that’s just how ridiculously rich the big boss is.
Wearing her house slippers, she bent over and quietly tiptoed downstairs, holding onto the wall.
“Madam? Why are you down here?” Ding Fan, who had been about to go upstairs to find Lu Jingchen, asked in surprise.
Before the Third Master got married, he wasn’t allowed on the second floor, only Bai Lang, the butler, and Dr. Zhang had access.
“Shh! Don’t disturb the Third Master’s work. I just wanted to check out the garden. Is that not allowed?” Ye Qianqian straightened up, pressing a finger to her lips.
“Of course, of course. I’ll accompany you.” Ding Fan turned to follow her.
“You’re coming with me? Is the villa not safe?” Ye Qianqian asked worriedly.
“It’s safe, absolutely safe. Please, go ahead. I’ll go report to the Third Master.” Ding Fan spoke quickly.
Seeing the strange, almost mocking smile on his master’s beloved’s face, he didn’t dare say another word of objection.
Since Ding Fan didn’t insist on following her, Ye Qianqian didn’t press further. Her excuse wasn’t solid to begin with.
Admiring flowers? The view from the second floor is better anyway.
She just wanted to see what the woman whose face was skinned by the Living King of Hell, now back for revenge looked like.
“Madam, where would you like to go?” the butler asked respectfully.
“The Third Master is busy in his study. I just came down to wander around.” Ye Qianqian avoided specifics, the more details she gave, the easier it’d be to expose herself.
“May I accompany you?” The butler, in his fifties, not only managed the Lu household impeccably but also kept himself in great shape.
Clearly a disciplined man. Such a handsome middle-aged man, rumored to earn millions a year, yet unmarried!
And Bai Lang, Ding Fan… all single dogs. Guess the people around Lu Jingchen are just beyond ordinary comprehension.
Ye Qianqian was even more eager to match Lu Yao with Bai Lang. She didn’t want to refuse the butler again, she just wanted to say yes.
But then she heard a sweet, coquettish voice: “Uncle Zhang~~ You’re so busy, why not let me accompany Madam for a stroll~~”
