Too Late to Regret, She’s Now With the Big Boss - Chapter 24
Lu Yao looked up just in time to see Bai Lang closing the door. She hurried after him, but the door was already locked, leaving her so frustrated that she had no choice but to find a room on her own.
The sun was high in the sky.
Lu Jingchen was in the middle of a video conference when Ye Qianqian’s phone rang again. With an icy expression, he picked up the phone.
[Ye Qianqian, you promised Yanyan you’d come to the homecoming banquet today. Where are you?]
The roar of Ye Qianqian’s eldest brother was so loud it could deafen anyone even through the screen.
[………]
[Don’t you dare play dead with me, Ye Qianqian! Listen up, get your ass back here right now! Yanyan loves the bird’s nest and snow pear soup you make…]
Lu Jingchen impatiently cut off the incessant ranting.
[Are you done yet? What’s with the aggression first thing in the morning? Don’t you have chefs or servants at home?]
[You… you… who the hell are you?] Ye’s eldest brother recognized the voice of Third Master Lu, but he couldn’t believe it and asked anyway.
[Lu Jingchen. Stop harassing me. We’ll be there by lunch.] With that, Lu Jingchen hung up.
It had never occurred to him that the girl fierce as a wolf cub could be bullied by everyone in the Ye family!
How outrageous!
Did they really think his reputation as the “Living King of Hell” was just for show?
On the other end of the video call, everyone watched as their CEO’s face twisted in extreme fury, his eyes burning with rage.
The corners of his mouth twitched slightly as he suppressed his murderous intent, his handsome features contorted in wrath.
The executives at Lu Corporation had only one thought: We’re doomed! Whose call could possibly make the perpetually icy-faced CEO lose his composure like this?
“What are you all staring at? Continue,” Lu Jingchen’s frigid voice snapped them back to reality, his expression gradually settling back into its usual gloom.
On the other end of the call, Ye’s eldest brother stared at his phone in shock and fear. “Dad… I think I just heard the Living King of Hell’s voice?”
“It wasn’t ‘think’, it was him. I warned all of you yesterday not to provoke her,” Mr. Ye said wearily.
“Dad, how is Ye Qianqian with Third Master Lu? Rumor has it he’s ruthless, keeps to himself, why would he answer her phone?”
“Third Master Lu said he’s the one who registered their marriage. Isn’t it normal for a married couple to live together? Did you all forget what I told you about not provoking her?”
“Dad, it’s not that I want to provoke him! It’s just that Yanyan loves the bird’s nest and snow pear soup she makes. None of the maids at home can replicate the taste!”
“If the maids can’t make it, then you do it! If you piss off the Living King of Hell, do you think the Ye family will survive?” Mr. Ye stormed off downstairs in anger.
…
Ye Qianqian woke up well-rested but starving.
Sitting up, she noticed a glass of warm water, several freshly squeezed juices, and pastries on the coffee table in the bedroom.
After freshening up, she curled up on the sofa, first drinking half the glass of warm water, then sipping some coconut juice before happily digging into the pastries.
[Is the female antagonist a pig? All she does after waking up is eat. Doesn’t she know she should go to the study and check on the big boss?]
[The big boss got up early to freshly squeeze all those juices, didn’t even take a bite himself before rushing off to work, and then had to deal with the Ye family’s incessant calls!]
[The big boss is emotionally wounded. The female antagonist needs to hurry to the study and comfort him, preferably for three days and nights without leaving.]
[Yes, yes! Make the proud big boss lean against the wall and stumble out on shaky legs.]
Ye Qianqian: The big boss leaning against the wall and stumbling?
More like her tiny waist would be broken first!
Poor her, she’d just recovered and really didn’t want to go. But since she had to return to the Ye family today, she might as well go and comfort him a little.
Ye Qianqian, dressed in a golden silk nightgown, carried a tray of leftover pastries and snacks as she headed straight to the study.
“Honey, what brings you here?” Lu Jingchen, who had been scowling while reprimanding someone, stood up in surprise, his expression softening instantly.
“Honey?” Since when had their Third Master gotten married?
Especially the head of the R&D department, who was currently being scolded by Third Master, everyone in the meeting room had been suffocating under the oppressive weight of his glare.
But witnessing Third Master’s sudden change in demeanor, the executives of Lu Corporation could finally breathe easily again.
They widened their eyes and craned their necks, eager to catch a glimpse of the legendary Mrs. Lu.
Before they could even see her, a crisp, melodious voice like the chime of jade rang out, sweet and charming, “Hubby~~ Did you skip breakfast?”
“Sweetheart, go out first. I’ll be right there,” Lu Jingchen said, an uncharacteristic hint of panic in his voice.
He didn’t want anyone else to see the shocking bite marks on his wife’s collarbone.
But before he could react, Ye Qianqian dashed over with the tray and plopped right onto his lap.
With a stern face, she asked, “Hubby, why are you so flustered? Are you doing something bad behind my back~~?”
“I was worried you might trip,” Lu Jingchen replied gently, torn between wanting to end the video call and fearing she’d misunderstand his intentions.
Sigh. Well, what was seen couldn’t be unseen!
Thankfully, she preferred modest nightgowns that only revealed her collarbone, otherwise, he would’ve gouged out the eyes of everyone in that meeting.
Lu Jingchen comforted himself inwardly as he tenderly took the tray from Ye Qianqian’s hands and set it on the desk, effortlessly wrapping an arm around her slender waist.
“Hubby, drink some juice.” Ye Qianqian picked up her half-finished glass of Yuchuan juice and held it to his lips.
Lu Jingchen took a few sips from her hand, then happily accepted the dragon beard candy, pine nut lily pastry, and poria cake she fed him.
“Sweetheart, you have some too,” he said, holding a date paste pastry, her favorite, in one hand and a glass of kiwi juice in the other, bringing both to her lips.
“Mmm, so delicious! Did you make all these pastries yourself?” Ye Qianqian asked, her eyes narrowing blissfully.
“Not all of them. I only made the date paste pastry you love, but I freshly squeezed all the juice.”
“That’s still amazing! You work so hard, hubby. From now on, let me take care of you, okay?”
“Sure. Once my wedding leave is over, you can come to the office with me and take care of me there,” Lu Jingchen replied with a doting smile.
It wasn’t that he forgot about the ongoing video conference, nor that he neglected to turn it off, he simply didn’t have the time.
His smile left the Lu Corporation executives utterly stunned. On the other end of the call, the high-ranking officials watched the couple feeding each other, finding the sight genuinely heartwarming.
After eating her fill, Ye Qianqian asked guiltily, “Did my parents call to scold me?”
“Everyone in your family called except your dad. It’s getting late, sweetheart. Go change, and we’ll leave soon.”
“Okay.” With that, Ye Qianqian headed back to the bedroom to get dressed, completely unaware that Lu Jingchen had been in the middle of a video conference the entire time.
Only after watching her leave the study did Lu Jingchen finally address the people on the call. “Stay focused, all of you. Meeting adjourned.”
…
Back in the Lu Corporation conference room, after the video ended, a young executive clutched his chest and sighed, “Mrs. Lu is so beautiful!”
An older executive scoffed, “Listen up, kids. Mrs. Lu’s beauty isn’t the point, the real miracle is that she can make Third Master smile.”
“Let me tell you something, the former head of the Lu family dominated the business world for decades, yet even he couldn’t keep Third Master in check.”
“Mr. Li, isn’t the rumor that Third Master has a good relationship with his father and brothers?”
“It was good at first, but the old madam and Third Master have clashing personalities, and the old master dotes on his wife like his own life…”
“What are you all whispering about?” A soft, feminine voice sounded from the conference room doorway.
