Too Late to Regret, She’s Now With the Big Boss - Chapter 15
“Sweetheart, you must be hungry. How about freshening up first, and we can take calls while eating?” Lu Jingchen tentatively suggested.
He had turned off her phone before going to bed the previous night and only switched it back on after waking up and preparing breakfast.
When he powered it on, he glanced briefly, there were over a hundred missed calls, along with countless WeChat messages and texts.
Some were from the Ye family, others from Song Yuntao.
If not for wanting his wife to wake up and eat, Lu Jingchen wouldn’t have turned her phone back on at all.
“Fine, it’s not like there’s anything urgent to deal with anyway,” Ye Qianqian replied, her voice hoarse.
After being relentlessly worn out by Lu Jingchen multiple times and forced to call him “husband” countless times, her throat was wrecked. She let him carry her into the bathroom, where he deftly squeezed toothpaste onto her brush for her.
“Just stay in your pajamas, sweetheart. We have a kitchen and dining area on the second floor. I made lunch myself, no one dares come up here except the butler.”
Lu Jingchen carried her to the small dining room on the second floor. Though it was called “small,” that was only in comparison to the grand dining hall on the first floor.
Ye Qianqian was so weak she could barely move, so Lu Jingchen even fed her the soup himself.
Only after finishing a warm bowl did she finally muster the energy to answer her phone.
“Ungrateful wretch! Why didn’t you pick up? You’ve had your phone off from last night until noon—do you have any idea how worried we’ve been looking for you?”
Her father’s furious roar thundered through the phone, nearly rupturing Ye Qianqian’s eardrums.
“Then tell me now, what do you want?” Ye Qianqian replied before switching the call to speaker and placing the phone further away on the table.
“Ungrateful wretch! You brought that assistant of yours to ruin Yanyan’s wedding yesterday and made her cry. Get back here right now and apologize to her!”
“I ruined it? She’s upset? And I should apologize? Maybe check your conscience before saying that.”
Ye Qianqian calmly continued accepting bites of food from Lu Jingchen. No matter what, eating came first.
“Ungrateful wretch! Is that any way to speak to your father? How did I never realize how vicious you are?”
Her voice was icy. “So you’ve only just noticed? Good. Then let this be your formal introduction to the real me. From now on, I won’t be the Ye Qianqian you can manipulate with guilt. Don’t provoke me, I can be far more vicious than you imagine.”
“Ungrateful wretch… Don’t think just because you’ve latched onto-“ Before he could finish the words “that assistant,” Lu Jingchen cut in.
“Mr. Ye, does my wife not have any other name besides ‘ungrateful wretch’?” Lu Jingchen’s voice was frosty.
“Th-Third Master?” Her father’s stammered exclamation came through the phone, his earlier bluster instantly deflated by Lu Jingchen’s voice.
“Mm.” Lu Jingchen responded coolly, though his hands never stopped feeding his wife.
“Did you just say… Qianqian is your wife?” her father asked, disbelief thick in his tone.
“Mm. Qianqian and I registered our marriage yesterday. The wedding is being planned, it’s set for August 19th.”
“August 19th… That’s over two months away. Could… could Qianqian come home to prepare for the wedding?” Her father’s trembling voice carried through the phone.
“No. We’re already legally married, do you understand?”
“Y-Yes, of course. We’re perfectly at ease with Qianqian staying at your place. I’ll hang up now.” With that, her father hastily ended the call.
“Third Uncle, it has to be you. The moment Dad hears your voice, he doesn’t dare to be fierce anymore!” Ye Qianqian exclaimed in admiration.
“What did you call me? How did you address me last night? Do I need to remind you?”
“No… h-husband…”
“Mmm, good girl. Now, open your mouth.” Lu Jingchen fed her a piece of honey-glazed pigeon.
After making sure Ye Qianqian had eaten her fill, Lu Jingchen finished the remaining food on her plate. He only ever cooked enough for the two of them.
Seeing him settle beside her after washing the dishes, Ye Qianqian asked curiously, “Husband, aren’t you going to the company today?”
“Darling, I’ve taken three days of marriage leave for myself. I’ll be spending these next few days with you.” As he spoke, he pulled her onto his lap.
“Husband, don’t mess around. I promised Lu Yao we’d have bubble tea this afternoon.” No matter how much stamina Ye Qianqian had, she couldn’t handle Lu Jingchen’s relentless energy.
“What flavor would you like, sweetheart? I’ll make it for you.” He played with her fingers idly.
“…”
Ye Qianqian didn’t know how to respond. She didn’t want Lu Yao to find out she had quietly married her third uncle.
“Wife, why so quiet? Do you want to go out?” Lu Jingchen tightened his embrace, as if trying to meld her into his very bones.
Only like this could he truly feel that she belonged to him alone. Ye Qianqian sensed his underlying insecurity.
She decided to be honest. “Husband, I don’t know how to tell Lu Yao about our marriage.”
“Do you think I’m too old for you, or that I’m not good enough?”
“Neither! Lu Yao is my best friend and your niece. I’m afraid she’ll laugh at me.”
“She wouldn’t dare.” No sooner had Lu Jingchen spoken than Lu Yao’s video call notification popped up on Ye Qianqian’s phone.
“Answer it, sweetheart. She’ll understand without you having to say a word.” He pressed the phone into her hands.
“Ahhh… Qianqian! My eyes must be broken! Why do I see my Grim Reaper Third Uncle in the video?!”
The moment Ye Qianqian answered, Lu Yao’s horrified face filled the screen, accompanied by a shriek.
“Act your age. Stop screeching, you’ll scare your Third Aunt.” Lu Jingchen leaned his cheek against his wife’s.
The call was abruptly disconnected!
[Such a bright, adorable heiress! Yet she married the second son of the Song family, someone she didn’t love just to avenge the female antagonist, only to be ruined by the male and female lead in the end!]
[But now the plot’s changed! The antagonist married the big boss, so shouldn’t Lu Yao and Bai Lang get their happy ending too?]
[Yes, yes! I’d love to see the rich heiress × poor assistant dynamic!]
[LOL! Bai Lang earns over ten million a year, what kind of ‘poor assistant’ is that?!]
[The most important thing is that Lu Yao is head over heels for Bai Lang.]
Ye Qianqian stared at the barrage of comments flooding the screen. Lu Yao had given up love and married someone she didn’t love all for her sake? And suffered terribly for it?
Lu Yao was head over heels for Bai Lang?
But hadn’t she always gossiped with Ye Qianqian about how her Grim Reaper Third Uncle and his assistant were secretly a gay couple?
“Wife, what are you thinking about?”
“I was just thinking about how Lu Yao is crazy about Assistant Bai.” The moment the words left her mouth, Ye Qianqian clapped a hand over it in shock.
“That girl has good taste. Bai Lang graduated from a top university and is incredibly disciplined.” Lu Jingchen’s tone was approving.
“How did you two meet?” Ye Qianqian asked curiously. She wanted to help her best friend learn more about Bai Lang.
“Bai Lang is a financially disadvantaged student my father sponsored…” Lu Jingchen answered his wife’s questions without holding anything back.
The couple sat on the balcony, chatting about everyday matters and admiring the flowers. The entire afternoon passed without Lu Yao seeking out Ye Qianqian.
Meanwhile, at the Lu family’s ancestral home, a loud and cheerful voice rang out: “Grandpa, Dad, Mom, my third uncle got married!”
