To the Man Destined to Kill Me - Chapter 78
Noah trudged back home without knowing what had happened at his mother’s house while he had been unconscious.
When he neared the house, he happened to look up at the sky. The sun was rising. The sky, wrapped in bright light, was soaked in red, and to Noah, it looked like it had been stained with blood.
He had a bad feeling. He hurried his aching body along.
Before long, he stood in front of the crumbling house. Grabbing the doorknob, he felt a strange chill spread all over his body.
He turned the knob, and the door creaked open slightly. A strong, metallic smell instantly hit his nose. Every hair on his body stood on end from the chilling feeling.
‘No, it can’t be.’
He hesitated for a long time before finally forcing the door open. What the rising sun revealed was dried blood—and his mother’s corpse.
“No, no…”
Darkness swallowed him whole.
Anyone could see she was dead, but Noah, holding onto a sliver of hope, reached for her neck to check her pulse.
But the moment his fingertips touched her cold skin, Noah realized she was truly gone.
There was nothing left to feel from her skin. Even before that, just seeing the amount of blood spilled on the floor was enough to know hoping she was alive was useless.
“Mother… Mother… MOTHER! AAAAAH! AAAH!”
Screams tore at Noah’s throat. His heart felt like it was not just bursting but shattering into pieces.
It was as if the hell that should have stayed underground had risen up to devour him.
Why was the world doing this to him? How much more did he have to be beaten down before it would be enough?
“Hurgh… Aaaah… Mother, mother…”
As Noah clutched Julia’s body, he spotted a brooch lying nearby. The moment he recognized it, his chest and head turned cold. He grabbed the brooch and sprang to his feet.
“Scott White…”
It was identical to the brooch Scarlett had once given him.
“I’ll kill him. I’ll kill him!”
Blinded by rage, Noah stormed out.
He had no memory of how he made it to the White mansion. When he came to, he was already knocking down the guards at the front gate.
“AAARGH!”
“AAAH!”
With his magic, Noah twisted the guards’ bodies unnaturally, making them scream in pain. Covered in their blood, he pushed his way inside.
His violet eyes, now cold and cruel, shone with deep, vengeful hatred—enough to sell his soul to a devil.
Noah took down anyone who came at him, breaking their legs with magic or knocking them out. Those who resisted with weapons were cut down with slicing magic, blood spraying everywhere.
Warm blood splattered on his face and dried as it cooled.
He didn’t care who these people were—whether they were someone’s brother, son, or friend.
Scarlett was already gone. And now, because of the White family, his mother too had been taken away forever. No, could that really be called peace? After such a horrible death, how could it be…?
‘I’ll kill them.’
He didn’t bother to mutter the name of his target. Noah moved forward without hesitation, leaving bloody footprints behind him, marching forward to the sound of screams.
Since it was early morning, the mansion quickly descended into chaos.
Many servants ran out, screaming when they saw Noah’s appearance.
Noah simply waved his hand, bending guns in half and slamming fleeing servants against the walls.
“What’s all this noise so early in the morning?”
Aaron came out into the hallway. His face was full of fatigue, and he could barely open his eyes.
“What the hell…”
The carpet on the floor was soaked in blood. The red stains on the windows belonged to the servants.
Aaron quickly rushed back into his room and grabbed a hunting rifle.
Tension gripped him like it did during a hunt.
Gun loaded, he stepped out to the central staircase. There he saw Noah, covered in blood.
Noah’s violet eyes, filled with bloodlust, locked onto him. Without hesitation, Noah stretched out his hand. The carpet beneath Aaron’s feet suddenly twisted.
Losing his balance, Aaron tumbled down the stairs, hitting his head hard on the marble floor.
Holding the back of his head in pain, Aaron grimaced.
“Where is Scott White?”
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
Aaron, struggling to stand, picked up his rifle and aimed it at Noah.
Noah’s lips twisted into a cold smile. With a flick of his fingers, he used slicing magic to break the barrel of the gun.
The gun became useless, but Aaron didn’t back down. Like when facing the mafia, he kept his composure and spat out his words.
“You think you can just barge in and demand answers?”
“Ha. Where is Scott White?”
“Why are you looking for Scott?”
“Answer me.”
Noah didn’t wait long. Seeing Aaron had no intention of talking, Noah broke Aaron’s ankle, forcing him to kneel.
“Ugh!”
Aaron barely held back his groan.
“I asked you where Scott White’s room is.”
“You crazy bastard!”
Noah responded by breaking Aaron’s wrist next. Aaron gritted his teeth, swallowing his screams.
“Next will be your neck.”
Even faced with Noah’s threat, Aaron chuckled bitterly. He sneered at him.
“First time trying to threaten someone, huh? Idiot. You have to pick the right target when you threaten someone.”
Noah’s eyelid twitched. Then, invisible magic slammed Aaron’s face to the side.
“Spit!”
Aaron coughed up a piece of his broken molar along with blood. Blood poured from his broken nose.
At that moment—
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Scott came down the stairs, firing a pistol at Noah.
Each step he took was followed by a gunshot, the noise booming against the ceiling.
Scott didn’t hesitate for a second. In fact, he almost seemed to enjoy it.
He fired five shots. Only the first bullet grazed Noah’s arm. The rest were blocked and dropped harmlessly to the floor before reaching Noah’s heart.
BANG!
“Ugh!”
Noah caught the last bullet and flung it back. It pierced Scott’s shoulder, making him drop his gun and clutch his injury.
Noah’s eyes gleamed viciously.
A dagger one of the servants had dropped flew into Noah’s hand. He grabbed it and without pause stabbed Scott in the side.
“Die.”
You should die.
Even if you are the White heir or Scarlett’s brother, you will never be forgiven. Go to hell and beg Mother for forgiveness yourself.
“Argh!”
Noah twisted the dagger and yanked it out before stabbing Scott again.
But Aaron moved first. Both ankles broken, Aaron crawled across the floor and threw himself at Noah.
“Let go!”
“Scott! Run! I’ll hold him off! Run!”
Aaron’s words didn’t last long. Noah slammed him into a wall with magic, knocking him out cold.
As Aaron’s limp body fell, Scott’s eyes widened in horror.
He couldn’t tell from here whether Aaron was alive or dead, but seeing the blood pooling under Aaron’s head told him it was bad.
“Aaron!”
Scott screamed, but there was no one left to help him.
All the strong guards had been killed by Noah, and the weaker ones had already fled.
“Ah!”
Just then, Susan appeared. She saw Noah grab Scott by the neck and lift him up.
Susan clamped her hands over her mouth to stifle a scream, but the gasp she let out gave her away.
Noah’s blood-stained dagger gleamed under the light.
“Ha. Good.”
Susan White was there.
She was the one who had driven Noah’s mother to ruin.
Noah decided he would kill Scott and then take care of Susan.
He twisted Scott’s broken arm again and threw him aside like trash. Just like Aaron had warned Scott, now Scott warned Susan.
“Run… Hurry…”
Susan turned to flee, but invisible magic yanked her by the hair and dragged her to Noah’s feet.
Without hesitation, Noah wrapped his hands around Susan’s neck and began to choke her.
“Gah! Kuhk!”
He was about to commit his first kill inside the White mansion.
If he did, he couldn’t return to Natalia.
Killing someone from the powerful White family could spark a diplomatic crisis if it was discovered that the culprit was from Natalia.
But in front of his mother’s death, Noah didn’t care about bloodlines or politics.
He didn’t mind rotting in prison or being executed. He didn’t care if he had to live as a fugitive under a false identity.
All that mattered was killing them to mourn his mother properly.
Yes. That was what he had decided.
But then—
“Waaah! Mamaaa!”
A child’s cry rang out from the end of the hallway.
It was a child Noah knew—Scarlett’s nephew, Isaac Brown, who had once visited the villa.
“Carly! Aunt Carly! Mom and uncles are hurt! Waaaah!”
Hearing Isaac’s sobs, Susan struggled harder in Noah’s grasp, scratching at his arms and trying to gouge his eyes. But Noah’s magic paralyzed her.
“Aaaaah! Mamaaa!”
The moment Noah saw the crying Isaac, it felt like a candle had been relit inside him.
He finally realized what he was doing. Time itself seemed to stop.
Isaac looked exactly like Scarlett—curly red hair, gray eyes, a tiny figure, and a soft voice.
His crying sounded just like Scarlett’s.
Ah.
Noah wanted to cry.
He really, truly wanted to kill. But he couldn’t, because it felt like Scarlett was standing right there.
He couldn’t understand why Scarlett came first even in this situation.
But he accepted it, because his love for her was still burning inside him.
“Huff! Gasp!”
“Ah… Scarlett…”
My love. My poor, dear Scarlett.
Noah’s hands loosened around Susan’s neck.
Scarlett loved Isaac more than her own life.
She used to have nightmares about Isaac being hurt.
Isaac, who looked so much like her.
And the people Noah was about to kill were her family—people she loved like her own life.
Protect Isaac.
He had once sworn it to Scarlett: that no matter what happened, he would protect Isaac.
Now was the time to keep that promise.
Noah let go of Susan.
She gasped madly for air and crawled toward Isaac.
Isaac’s sobbing filled Noah’s ears.
Noah looked down at his hands.
They weren’t yet fully stained with blood.
He hadn’t yet destroyed the entire world of that little child.
He had kept his promise.
“AAAAAH!”
The thick wail shook the magic in the air. Scott, who had been approaching to stab Noah with a broken shard of glass, was pushed back.
“Aaaah!”
I wanted to kill them. They were people who deserved to die.
And yet, I couldn’t kill them. Because of Scarlett. Because of the feelings I had for her.
‘Scarlett…’
Just how selfish can you be?
You stole my heart, captured my soul, and made me swear my loyalty with all my sincerity.
Because of that, you made it so I couldn’t kill them.
I became bound to you, and in the end, I abandoned my revenge.
And it all started from your forgiveness that gave me freedom.
Your forgiveness chained me. Your forgiveness saved me and threw me into the mud.
I hate that forgiveness from that day.
I hate the moment you offered forgiveness and gave me freedom on earth.
Even so, I love you.
Scarlett. My Scarlett.
My cruel lover, my selfish one until the very end.
As much as I love you, I hate you.
