To the Man Destined to Kill Me - Chapter 66
“Ahhh!”
Scarlett screamed at the loud gunshot. With a simple gesture from Noah, the bullet softly landed on his palm. An invisible force floated the bullet and threw it toward Scott.
In the blink of an eye, the bullet brushed past Scott’s ear and smashed into a ceramic vase behind him. With a sharp shattering sound, the vase broke into pieces and fell to the floor. Blood trickled down from Scott’s ear where the bullet had grazed him.
“It’s okay.”
Noah turned around to gently pat Scarlett’s back as she shut her eyes tightly in fear. Scott, who had frozen in shock at the returning bullet, suddenly exploded with rage. Without caring that Noah was a wizard, he threw his gun aside and charged at him.
“Scott!”
Startled, Scarlett covered her mouth. Scott’s fist struck Noah’s face hard. Blood from Noah’s nose splattered onto the hallway floor. Scott didn’t stop. Grabbing Noah by the collar, he punched him again with all his strength.
His knuckles tore open from the force, but he didn’t care. Noah, knowing why Scott was hitting him, didn’t bother to resist.
“I should’ve killed you a long time ago! Trash like you should’ve been dead already!”
“Scott! Stop it! Stop!”
Scarlett screamed, grabbing onto Scott to pull him away. But Scott roughly shook her off. It was a much more aggressive action than he usually showed toward Scarlett, but neither of them cared about that right now.
“Noah! Don’t just stand there and take it! Stop it, please!”
Scott punched Noah hard in the stomach. Noah gasped and collapsed onto the floor. Scott then started kicking him.
Scarlett tried to push Scott away with her body, but he was solid as a rock and didn’t budge.
“Please, Scott. Please stop!”
The floor was soaked with Noah’s blood. His broken nose wouldn’t stop bleeding, staining his white clothes with red.
Scott kept cursing, spitting out harsh words. Filthy blood, damn bastard, son of a murderer…
“Stop. Please stop. He’ll die if you keep going… Please…”
Scarlett crawled over and shielded Noah, who was being beaten to a pulp. Scott stood there, breathing heavily, his hand on his waist. He fought to swallow his rage and said,
“Move.”
“No. Please, let’s stop here.”
Scarlett looked like she was barely holding herself together, as if she might collapse or have a breakdown at any moment.
She was like a candle about to go out. To such a Scarlett, Scott growled each word through clenched teeth.
“I told you to move.”
“I can’t.”
“Scarlett White!”
“You’ve hit him enough! What, are you going to kill him? I said I won’t move. I won’t! You get out of my way!”
Scarlett felt like she was about to faint from the lack of air, but she bit her teeth hard and endured it. She couldn’t fall. She had to endure.
Scott’s face turned bright red, veins popping on his neck as he shouted.
“You know exactly what kind of person he is! Scarlett! How could you do this? Do you know what you’ve gone through because of him? Our family was destroyed because of him!”
“I don’t care! Who cares about the family if I’m dying? It’s enough if I’m happy. Don’t hit him! Don’t treat Noah like that!”
“You… you…”
Scott glared at Scarlett, looking threatening enough to explode. His whole body trembled with anger he could barely control.
That was his limit. If anyone touched him even a little, he would burst and might do something terrible.
“Are you going to hit me too? Go ahead! Hit me! Are you a beast? How can you beat someone who’s not even fighting back?”
“You, you!”
Scott grabbed Scarlett’s arm roughly and started dragging her.
“What are you doing!”
He didn’t care that Scarlett stumbled trying to keep up with his fast steps.
“I didn’t let you live on your own for this! Let’s go home! Don’t even think about stepping outside again!”
“Let go! I’m not a kid! I’m an adult too! Let me go!”
Scarlett twisted her arm and lowered her body to break free, but Scott was firm. He dragged her by force. Then, he was suddenly slammed into the wall by some invisible force.
Scarlett screamed in shock. Behind her stood Noah, wiping his nose with his sleeve. His eyes, now tinged with purple, held a hint of madness.
He glared fiercely at Scott. He could bear anything else, but not letting Scarlett be dragged away. He would never allow violence against her.
“Are you okay?”
“That damned bastard!”
Scott, rubbing the back of his head, got up and charged at Noah. Noah quickly pulled Scarlett behind him to protect her.
An invisible wall blocked Scott’s way. It was like hitting a glass wall. Scott, unable to move forward, shouted.
“You said you forgave him! Then why are you still with that bastard? Is that your forgiveness?”
“…”
Scarlett couldn’t answer.
“Are you crazy? Have you lost your mind? Or are you just throwing your life away because you’re dying? Stop this madness and come home. No more. This is it.”
Scott reached out his hand toward her. It meant, if she took his hand, he would forget everything that happened today.
Scarlett couldn’t completely ignore that hand.
Seeing her hesitation, Noah anxiously gripped her hand tightly. Then, to make sure there was no space between them, he interlocked their fingers.
Scott’s face twisted in anger. He urged her.
“Scarlett.”
“…”
He was like a parent, a brother who had cherished her. She couldn’t bring herself to say she hated him.
Scarlett slowly shook her head to refuse. She looked more miserable and confused than ever.
Scott finally lost his patience. He exploded, shouting.
“I can’t understand you or John anymore! Why are you acting like this? What are you thinking? If you don’t come home, I’ll kill that bastard and his mother too!”
“Don’t… Scott. Please. Let’s stop here. Please.”
“No. This is just the beginning. Scarlett White. You don’t even know what you’ve lost. You don’t understand how precious the things you lost because of him were. Your health, your father, a happy family… all of that should have been yours!”
“You know it wasn’t Noah’s fault. Don’t try to mess up my life. I’ll live however I want. I’ll love whoever I want, hate whoever I want, and forgive however I want.”
“Then at least be with another criminal! Be happy with a con artist or someone after your money! Anyone but him. Even if the sky falls and the world ends tomorrow, it can’t be him!”
“If it’s because I’m a White, then I don’t want to live as a White anymore. I’m sick of living under my parents’ shadow.”
“You’re giving up the White name? Do you even know what that means? You’re saying you’ll abandon us?”
“Yes. I’ll leave.”
“You’ll need us more than we need you. You’ll never truly abandon us.”
Scarlett bit her lower lip tightly. Scott was right. She might forget her parents, but she could never abandon her siblings.
They were everything to her. No matter how much she loved Noah, she could never completely cut ties with the ones who raised her. But she didn’t want to live swept away by her brothers’ anger anymore.
Could she say she had fully forgiven Noah? No. She still hated him. She wasn’t just angry; she was scared of him too. But unless she erased her memories, that fear would never go away.
Still, she wanted to let it go. Just one more step forward—and she would fall off a cliff. She hoped the end would be filled with love, not hatred. Was it too much to wish for peace born from love? Scarlett clung to her stubbornness.
“No, I can do it. I’m sick of everything. I can be happy on my own. I just became independent too late. John wasn’t a parent. You’re just my brothers, but I treated you like more.”
It was Scott who now looked hurt the most. Seeing his devastated face made Scarlett feel deep guilt.
She bit her soft cheek to hold back the impulse to take her words back.
Scott covered his face with one hand. From the redness of his face and neck, it was clear he was holding back tears. He sobbed like an animal and shouted.
“Damn it! I should’ve sold that bastard into slavery! No, I should’ve thrown him into the sea and drowned him!”
It wasn’t Scarlett or Scott whose face changed first. It was Noah.
He stepped forward and asked in a low voice.
His violet eyes shone cold and sharp like polished ice.
“Was it you? You’re the one who sold me into slavery?”
Noah grabbed Scott by the collar.
“What are you talking about, Noah? Let go of Scott.”
“I was tricked by loan sharks and sold as a slave onto a whaling ship. I suffered like hell… barely survived and came back.”
The terrible memories of when he first used magic and committed murder came flooding back, and tears welled up.
He had lived through unimaginable despair. And he would carry that pain until the day he died. And it was all because of Scott White.
“Yeah.”
Scott, looking half-crazed, chuckled as he answered. He had kept it hidden from Scarlett, but he had now reached his limit.
He could no longer endure or be considerate. He had to provoke Noah, to destroy everything between him and Scarlett.
So he used the truth like a weapon.
“I’m the one who sold you into slavery. And that’s not all. Susan’s the one who made you and your mother go bankrupt.”
“What?”
“And Aaron made sure you couldn’t study anywhere in Wifland. I didn’t expect you to survive with a fake identity, though.”
“I’ll kill you… I’ll kill you!”
Noah gritted his teeth and screamed. Scarlett’s desperate scream followed.
“Noah, no!”
