To the Man Destined to Kill Me - Chapter 102
Bang. Bang. Bang.
Every shot Noah fired hit the target dead on. The human-shaped target had holes in the head and heart areas, large and small.
A member of the Wifland parliament, who had come to shoot with Noah, clapped and praised him. Noah humbly nodded in response.
As he shook hands with the parliament member, a well-known figure from Wifland passed by the shooting range. Naturally, Noah’s gaze followed him.
“Excuse me for a moment.”
With a polite request, Noah followed him to the restroom. Inside, there was no one else but the man.
Click.
The restroom door shut, and Scott White turned to check Noah.
Scott, who had been washing his hands, let out something that might have been a cough or a sneer, and turned back to the mirror. He mocked, speaking to his own reflection.
“I’ve really developed a strong stomach.”
After turning off the running water, Scott shook his hands and finished speaking.
“I can’t believe I can stand looking at such a disgusting face.”
Flames sparked in Noah’s eyes. His lips twisted as a cold voice emerged between them.
“If you owe your nephew’s life, you should bow your head. You’re no better than a worthless insect.”
Scott didn’t even blink at Noah’s harsh words. Instead, he let out a snort and repeated Noah’s words.
“Insect… insect…”
To Scott, Noah was the insect. He had left Scarlett, even though he had impregnated his dying sister.
Of course, Noah didn’t know Scarlett was pregnant. If he had known she was alive, he would never have left her. Scarlett had wished for Noah to leave, and only after he left did she realize she wasn’t alone.
Still, to Scott, Noah was the very image of hatred. He had watched Scarlett risk her life to give birth to Teddy, and Noah was the cause of that pain.
Teddy’s existence was a blessing to Scott, but looking at Scarlett, a virgin who had given birth… how could he view Noah kindly?
“You’ll see who really ends up crawling on the floor.”
Click.
Noah locked the door. His violet eyes glinted as they glared at Scott.
Scott gave a twisted smile, wiped his hands on a handkerchief, and threw it at Noah. The wet handkerchief hit Noah’s forehead before falling to the floor.
Noah didn’t hold back, quickly closing the distance and grabbing Scott by the collar. Scott still wore his mocking smile.
“How about doing what you did last time?”
He was referring to the day when Noah stormed the White mansion, injuring Scott and Aaron and attempting to kill Susan.
Unlike that time, Noah, now the emperor, had much more to lose. There were many things he had to worry about, things he mustn’t do.
Realizing that, Scott acted without fear.
“Spit.”
Scott’s spit hit Noah’s face. Noah, expecting it, took out a handkerchief and wiped his face angrily. Scott’s expression changed in an instant.
The forced smile that had been there to mock him was now replaced by a cold hatred. There was no warmth in his eyes, only madness.
The eyes that had frozen even the hottest anger glared at Noah.
“You filthy creature! How dare you…”
He couldn’t finish the sentence, unable to speak the words accusing Noah of making Scarlett a single mother.
Scarlett, thinking that her life and Teddy’s existence would be revealed, had tried to hide the truth.
“You’re worse than an insect!”
Before Scott could finish his words, Noah used magic to slam him into the wall.
Bang!
The tiles cracked as Scott hit the wall, and he fell to the floor.
“Cough!”
Scott, biting his tongue, coughed up blood. He tried to rise, but Noah merely flicked his finger, causing him to crash back down to the floor.
Scott, pinned to the restroom floor, struggled to get free, but Noah had no intention of releasing him.
Click. Click.
Noah walked toward him, the sound of his boots echoing.
“Seems like you’re the one crawling on the floor.”
Noah stepped on Scott’s head. The weight of his shoe pressed into Scott’s temple and cheek.
The cracked tiles scraped across Scott’s face as blood began to seep into the floor. Noah didn’t hesitate.
“I’ll kill you myself.”
Spit.
Noah spat at Scott the same way Scott had done to him, then turned and left. He gave orders to his assistant, Peter, who had been waiting outside.
“Keep a close eye on Isaac Brown.”
If that boy slips out of his grasp, it’ll be a great loss. Especially since he had dinner plans with Scarlett tonight.
Scarlett couldn’t hide her nervousness.
“It’s okay…”
Even as she tried to comfort herself, her racing heart wouldn’t calm down.
Scarlett applied more makeup to her pale face to hide her distress. Her hair, which she had brushed several times, was now frizzing from static.
“Ha.”
As Scarlett sighed, the door behind her creaked open, and Teddy poked his head through. Their eyes met in the mirror, and Scarlett brightened as she welcomed her son.
“When’s Carly Mommy coming?”
Teddy climbed naturally onto Scarlett’s lap and snuggled into her arms.
Scarlett gently stroked her little son’s back. She was supposed to meet Noah, and her heart felt heavy.
It wasn’t that she enjoyed keeping the truth about Teddy’s real father from him, or hiding his existence from Noah.
In fact, it made her more uncomfortable than anyone else. She had longed for her parents all her life, and the empty space Teddy would have where a father should be made her chest ache.
“Mom might be late today, so don’t wait up and go to bed early.”
“But I want to wait for you!”
“Then wait until eight, then go to bed.”
“Hmph, can’t I wait?”
Teddy’s gray eyes, just like hers, were filled with innocence, though they didn’t carry the same warmth as Scott’s or even her own.
In Teddy’s eyes, Noah’s kindness shone through. When Scarlett looked into those eyes, she felt deep gratitude toward Noah for giving her Teddy.
But revealing Teddy’s existence and risking losing him wasn’t an option.
“Of course, there’s no guarantee Noah will take Teddy…”
Noah might not even want to take the child, but knowing Noah’s nature, he wouldn’t turn away from him.
If Noah and Teddy formed a connection, Teddy might eventually become entangled in the political situation in Natalia. That was something Scarlett feared.
“Teddy.”
Scarlett called her son’s name warmly, cupping his cheek in her hands.
She had loved Noah. She had loved him so deeply that she had considered dying for him. But that love could never compare to the love she felt for her son.
“It’s funny. I never thought I’d understand Julia Ashford.”
“If you sleep early, I’ll bring back some delicious candy when I return.”
“Really?”
“Of course. I’ll get lemon-flavored ones. You love lemon, right?”
Teddy’s eyes sparkled, and Scarlett’s lips curled into a smile.
As Teddy shook his head excitedly, the sweet smell of a young child’s skin mixed with the scent of sweat. It gave her the courage to face Noah.
‘I can do this.’
She wasn’t afraid of meeting Noah. Even if she was in the same room with him, she wouldn’t feel anything.
She hadn’t corrected the obituary on purpose, but she wouldn’t apologize either. Back then, it was the best decision she could make.
Just then, Wilhelm arrived, and the sound of a carriage reached her ears. Teddy quickly jumped up to greet him, running downstairs.
Scarlett looked down at her empty arms, then checked her reflection in the mirror.
“Pull yourself together, Scarlett White.”
What would she do if even meeting Wilhelm became uncomfortable now?
When she saw Noah, she wouldn’t be able to control her expression. She wasn’t ready to face him, and now she was consciously avoiding Wilhelm because of her feelings for Noah.
“Attending dinner with Wilhelm and Noah… what a funny thing.”
After fixing her hair, which had been messed up by Teddy, Scarlett hurried out to meet Wilhelm.
“Are you here?”
“Wow. You look great.”
Wilhelm sincerely complimented Scarlett as he checked her outfit. Teddy, who was in his arms, giggled with the fresh sound only a child could make, and repeated his words.
“You look great, Mom.”
With a gemstone necklace adding the perfect touch, Scarlett was no longer the young girl she was six years ago. She had transformed into a captivating woman with a deep fragrance.
She walked over to Wilhelm and straightened his tie, which had gotten a little crooked from holding Teddy. His blue tie matched the color of Scarlett’s blue dress.
Wilhelm set Teddy down and, noticing Scarlett’s tense expression, gently asked, “Are you okay?”
“What’s not okay? Let’s go, we’re going to be late.”
Scarlett gave a slight smile to reassure him, then kissed Teddy’s cheek before bidding him goodbye.
On the way out, Teddy insisted that Scarlett keep her promise to buy candy for him, reminding her several times.
As the carriage began to move, Scarlett felt her heart pounding in sync with the sound of the wheels.
Her mouth went dry, and her palms were sweaty.
Wilhelm, noticing her anxiety, subtly took her hand.
“…Thank you.”
Although it would be understandable for Wilhelm to feel upset about his fiancée being nervous because of her ex, he instead understood her completely.
Wilhelm’s firm grip eased her tension bit by bit.
The carriage soon arrived at the hotel where Noah was staying. Outside, Noah’s assistant, Peter, was waiting for them.
“Please come this way.”
Scarlett put on a calm expression and tried to ignore the cold air and the subtle tension in the atmosphere of the hotel.
Think about Teddy. I have to protect him.
When she thought of her maternal love for Teddy, all memories and old feelings about Noah seemed insignificant. After all, their connection had ended a long time ago.
But as she thought this…
“Welcome.”
The moment she saw Noah, who stood to greet them, Scarlett felt her heart tighten painfully, as though she might have an anxiety attack.
