Time Travel Begins the Moment I Divorce My Wife - Chapter 22
Ji Xunchi suddenly met the gloomy, frigid gaze of Hua Jiangyu opposite her, and her heart trembled.
Her hand, resting to the right of her left leg, grasped at empty air, as if she had not yet reacted to the sudden void where something had been.
“No feelings left?”
This was a familiar question.
Ji Xunchi subconsciously replied, “Yes, no feelings left.”
Only after speaking did she realize something was wrong.
The person before her was not the eighteen-year-old Hua Jiangyu, but the twenty-six-year-old Hua Jiangyu with whom she was currently negotiating a divorce.
Hua Jiangyu’s gaze was cold and congealed. Had anyone looked closely, they would have noticed the aggrieved, fine red rim of her eyes.
Ji Xunchi heard Hua Jiangyu’s cold, familiar tone: “I don’t agree.”
A jolt went through Ji Xunchi.
Hua Jiangyu clutched the black-and-white divorce agreement. Beneath a mask of perfect composure, her fury was surging and uncontrollable.
She was so terrified that even her fingers were trembling.
Staring at the indifferent Ji Xunchi, her eyes hardened. With a sharp rip, she tore the divorce agreement in her hands into pieces.
Ji Xunchi looked at her, startled, “Are you crying?”
Only then did she catch that slight crack beneath the perfect mask.
Hearing this, Hua Jiangyu felt a bitter ache in her heart. She gave Ji Xunchi a deep look, yet still forced herself to maintain a cold voice: “Don’t even think about a divorce.”
Having said that, fearing that if she continued to look at Ji Xunchi’s face she would lose control, Hua Jiangyu turned her head away and strode off, her eyes rimmed with red.
“Hey, wait.”
Before the words had finished falling, a familiar sense of dizziness washed over her.
The last thing Ji Xunchi saw was Hua Jiangyu’s slender hand gripping the doorknob. In the next second, she completely blacked out.
Ji Xunchi lay on the smooth floor like a corpse, motionless.
In less than five minutes, a tiny, fleeting moment, she had experienced enough events to fill three or five episodes of an overly long soap opera.
After accidentally kissing Hua Jiangyu, before she could even repent for her instinctual reaction, she had suddenly traveled back again.
Immediately following that, she had reflexively responded to a familiar line, experienced the familiar dizziness, and collapsed in a single sequence. Ji Xunchi realized she had transmigrated again.
She stared with wide eyes at the bright ceiling, feeling the delayed sensation of pain in the back of her head. Her whole body was numb.
Although her thinking had ceased to be active, the image of Hua Jiangyu’s reddened eyes constantly flashed before her.
That must have been the prelude to her crying.
Thinking of this, Ji Xunchi’s eyes dimmed slightly.
“Sigh.”
After a while, she moved her head to make herself more comfortable on the hard floor.
Could it be that my transmigration is related to the divorce?
Ji Xunchi speculated in her heart.
Furthermore, regarding the catalyst for transmigrating back, Ji Xunchi thought about it for a moment and came to a rough deduction.
It should be related to kissing Hua Jiangyu.
When she first transmigrated, both she and Hua Jiangyu were three-year-old toddlers, but Ji Xunchi had not forgotten that even at such a young age, little Hua Jiangyu had already shown signs of coveting her; this little brat had not tried to kiss her just once or twice.
When they took their afternoon naps, they were so close that it was highly probable the child had snuck a peck while she was fast asleep. Since she had been sleeping so soundly, it was no wonder she had transmigrated back without even knowing it.
Thinking of this, and recalling Hua Jiangyu’s soft, white, three-headed-tall dumpling appearance, Ji Xunchi clicked her tongue.
Then there was the seventeen or eighteen-year-old Hua Jiangyu.
That fellow was even more impressive, coming straight in with a CEO-style deal. Taking advantage of her lack of attention to unilaterally complete the “sugar baby” arrangement, she had stuffed money into her bag and proceeded with a forced transaction.
Ji Xunchi despised her own lack of resolve at the time; why had she reacted out of instinct?
What kind of crappy transmigration was this? Why could it not activate the return mechanism the moment Hua Jiangyu grabbed her chin and pressed against her?
It just had to wait until after the fact.
At a glance, it was clearly not a legitimate transmigration system.
“Don’t you think my analysis is correct?”
Ji Xunchi asked the “Spinach System” in her heart, which had not appeared in a while.
Unfortunately, there was no response from the system.
Ji Xunchi was not disappointed. She had a hunch that the Spinach System had not disappeared at all; it had followed her here.
Thinking of this, a subtle, profound glint flashed through her eyes, though if one looked closer, it might have just been an illusion.
“Hey, how much longer are you going to lounge around, you loser? Lying here is affecting my dance practice. Get lost!”
Following these words, her calf was kicked unceremoniously.
A shadow loomed over her. A girl stood with her arms crossed, looking down at the sprawled Ji Xunchi with undisguised jealousy in her eyes.
The person next to her glanced toward the door and warned, “Fengya, don’t be so blatant. She is, after all, about to debut.”
This sentence was like adding fuel to the fire, instantly igniting the girl’s rage.
Wei Fengya gritted her teeth, “So what if I am blatant? Who in the company does not know she climbed up using low-class methods?”
“Her dancing is trash, and her singing is garbage. Aside from having a pretty face, she has nothing else to show for herself. Even her teammates dislike her. She is just a useless person who only holds everyone back. I want to scold her! I am going to call her out hard. Trash! Loser!”
Seeing her scolding becoming increasingly vicious, and on the verge of losing control and getting physical, Ji Xunchi, who had still been lying flat, suddenly sat up sharply, clutching the hand Wei Fengya had swung toward her.
“You said I am good for nothing except my face?”
Wei Fengya looked at her with fire-breathing eyes, clamoring, “That is all the capital you have. Otherwise, how else would you use it to serve your financial backer?”
Ji Xunchi did not need to look in a mirror to know that her face was definitely exactly the same as the original.
She tugged at the woman’s wrist, her eyes curved into a smile, appearing completely harmless, “While I thank you for complimenting me on my looks, did you know? In the entertainment industry, having a pretty face is enough to dominate.”
With her other hand, she touched her smooth cheek in front of the girl and smiled, “Unfortunately, you do not even have this basic weapon. It is no wonder you were not selected for the debut lineup.”
Although Ji Xunchi generally did not comment on people’s appearance, especially when it came to other girls, she could not tolerate the opponent attacking and spreading rumors simply because of her superior appearance.
As soon as she said this, Wei Fengya’s face twisted on the spot.
She had always felt that her dance and singing skills were top-tier. When the company launched a new girl group, she had definitely had a chance to fight for a spot.
But as it happened, just as it happened, of the five debut spots, the last one turned out to be Ji Xunchi, a loser who had only just arrived at the company!
Wei Fengya was maddened by jealousy!
If it were not for Ji Xunchi, that last spot would have been hers!
Was it just because this good-for-nothing loser looked a bit better? Why? Why?
Wei Fengya’s expression was twisted and insane, and the girl standing beside her did not look much better.
She inadvertently cast a glance toward the door, her eyes flickering.
“Ji Xunchi, do not say that,” Li Ruoqiao said, feigning persuasion. “While being good-looking is an advantage, only talent is the key to longevity. Even though you are already in the debut lineup, you should not give up on working hard; after all, your skills really are not that great.”
Ji Xunchi turned her head and gave this sweet, “green tea” artist a meaningful look.
Oh, boy. Every word is stepping exactly on the original owner’s personality traits, for fear of not lighting the fuse.
She nodded, firmly gripping the struggling Wei Fengya, appearing as if she had been persuaded by the girl, “You are right, but why would I listen to you?”
Li Ruoqiao’s face stiffened, “I am trying to advise you out of kindness. If you do not like listening, you do not have to talk to me like that, right?”
Ji Xunchi stared at her with interest.
Meeting those dark eyes, Li Ruoqiao subconsciously wanted to look away, feeling uncomfortable in her heart.
Why does she feel like this idiot Ji Xunchi knows something?
Carefully scanning the gap in the undosed door with her peripheral vision and seeing that it was now empty, Li Ruoqiao felt a sense of relief.
She must have seen it, right?
Ji Xunchi turned to look at the fire-breathing Wei Fengya, “Does she always advise you like this normally?”
Wei Fengya, “Let go of me, dammit!”
Ji Xunchi sighed, “Your temper is really bad. You are not even willing to endure a little bit? No wonder you get manipulated into acting out everywhere.”
Li Ruoqiao’s pupils contracted.
Wei Fengya’s eyes were blazing, “What did you say, you loser?”
Ji Xunchi was completely unaffected by her attitude, her voice gentle, “How does it feel to break up with your girlfriend? Is it painful yet happy? But there is no help for it. Who told you to have such a ‘good sister’ who thinks of you everywhere? Since you were not willing to go public, having your sister announce your relationship for you is not bad, right?”
She smiled and clicked her tongue, sighing, “After all, this way, you do not have to suffer from moral condemnation.”
Upon hearing this, Wei Fengya turned her head sharply, staring fixedly at the pale-faced Li Ruoqiao, “It was you! You were the one who snitched to Director Huang!”
As one of the top entertainment companies in the industry, Juxing Gravity hosted many trainees longing for stardom.
These trainees were young men and women in the age of hormonal turmoil. Sometimes, dating secretly behind the company’s back was not a big deal.
However, once it came time to select trainees for the debut group, the company would force them to break up, considering image management and public relations issues after the debut.
Wei Fengya had been almost certain of her entry into the debut group, but when she thought about having to break up with her girlfriend, she began to struggle between her future and her feelings.
But after the final selection for the debut group was confirmed, the failed Wei Fengya accidentally learned from Director Huang that the director had known about her relationship.
Wei Fengya did not think the relationship problem was what had hindered her; from that moment on, she had aimed her hostility at Ji Xunchi, the lucky girl who had nothing but her face. Yet, deep in her heart, in the middle of the night, she still could not help but wonder: if she had broken up sooner, would she be the one preparing to debut now?
But she never expected that someone had snitched!
And it was Li Ruoqiao, the person she thought had the least guts and was the most unlikely to do such a thing!
Yes, Li Ruoqiao knew all about her relationship.
Wei Fengya looked at her, almost snarling.
Li Ruoqiao was still making a final attempt to argue, “Fengya, do not be manipulated by her. How could I possibly do such a thing?”
Ji Xunchi released the hand she had been holding and took a step back, rubbed the back of her head, and spoke, “Yeah, how could your good friend do such a thing? Even though she was isolated and bullied by you when she first joined the company, did you both not eventually solve others together? Have you not become ‘good sisters’ who hold hands and go to the bathroom together ever since? How could she possibly do something like that!”
Ji Xunchi looked at the two sisters staring affectionately at each other and expressed her sincere admiration for their sisterhood.
“The way you two exchange feelings is truly deep!”
