Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 73
On the fourth try, the call finally connected. Yan Qinglan exercised all her patience. She figured she had probably upset Wen Huaxi again that afternoon, so only getting hung up on three times was actually not too bad.
But even though the call went through, the screen showed only the baby. Wen Huaxi didn’t say a word. Yan Qinglan called out several times, but got no response.
“Xiaoxi, if you don’t answer, I’m going to get worried. I’ll come to your place right now,” Yan Qinglan said, her voice slightly more firm as unease crept in.
Still no reply. Anxious now, she added, “You don’t have to open the door. I’ll just wait outside all night until you come out tomorrow morning.”
“What are you doing? Didn’t you say you wanted to see the baby? Then watch. What do you want me to say?” Wen Huaxi finally responded, clearly annoyed.
“Xiaoxi, you know I just said that as an excuse. I really wanted to see you.” Yan Qinglan didn’t finish the second part aloud, but Wen Huaxi obviously understood.
Her ears turned warm, and embarrassed by the thought, she quickly set the phone back on its stand.
“I don’t care. The phone’s here. If you want to talk to the baby, go ahead. I need to pick a script.”
Yan Qinglan sighed quietly in her heart.
At least Wen Huaxi had hugged her today. She couldn’t ask for too much more. She had to be patient.
She looked at the baby on the screen. They stared at each other, big eyes to small ones. Then Wen Qingxun pouted, let out a small hum of discontent, and turned her head away from the camera.
Mommy really was the worst. Why was she thinking about that annoying person again? Mommy didn’t even miss her.
She was just using her as an excuse to see that annoying woman. So shameless.
This family was bound to fall apart if Mommy stayed like this.
Yan Qinglan didn’t know what to say to her daughter.
She had never been especially good with kids. As long as the baby was safe, that was enough for her. She had no interest in the details of what Wen Qingxun had done today.
Unlike Wen Huaxi, who had spent their days apart constantly looking for ways to check in on Wen Qingxun while avoiding contact with Yan Qinglan.
After about five minutes, Wen Qingxun fell asleep out of boredom. Seeing the screen still lit, Wen Huaxi assumed Yan Qinglan had ended the call. She picked up the phone.
“Xiaoxi.” The moment Yan Qinglan saw her, her mood visibly improved. She even smiled.
Before Wen Huaxi could show her impatience, Yan Qinglan quickly spoke up. “The baby won’t talk to me.”
“Really?” Wen Huaxi gave her a smug look, clearly enjoying it.
Just a moment ago, the baby had been saying she missed Yan Qinglan. Clearly, she was closer to herself.
“You seem awfully happy about that.” Yan Qinglan looked at her, helpless in the face of this baby-obsessed mother.
“You need to talk to her,” Wen Huaxi said, holding back a smirk. “She’s still a tiny baby. It’s not like she can say much to you. What were you expecting?”
“But she turned her head away. She didn’t want to look at me.” Yan Qinglan pointed at the screen.
Wen Huaxi leaned in closer. Wen Qingxun opened her eyes again, looked at her mommy, and let out a soft sound.
Unfortunately, her acting skills still weren’t great. Wen Huaxi spotted the slip immediately.
“My sweet girl. You really don’t want to talk to your Mommy Yan?” Wen Huaxi didn’t call her out. She just placed the phone down and picked up her daughter.
Wen Qingxun grabbed a handful of Wen Huaxi’s hair, tugged it, then let go and gave her a big smile.
Watching his wife and daughter interact made Yan Qinglan feel strangely content.
She had switched to using her tablet, and now stared at the enlarged view on the screen. The sharpness in her eyes had softened noticeably.
Wen Qingxun started babbling again while playing with Wen Huaxi’s fingers. After the little one finished her “baby talk,” Wen Huaxi glanced at the screen thoughtfully.
“If the baby doesn’t want to see you, then next time, find another excuse. Don’t use her to get close to me.”
Wen Huaxi was clearly taking the chance to be firm. Whether or not Wen Qingxun actually disliked Yan Qinglan was unclear, but this was the perfect moment to lay down a boundary.
“Alright,” Yan Qinglan said, holding back a laugh.
So she needed a new excuse next time. Message received.
“Xiaoxi, how do you understand what she’s saying?”
It was rare for Wen Huaxi to even take her calls. After being hung up on three times, Yan Qinglan figured she deserved to ask a few more questions.
“It’s not that hard. Every sound she makes has a different tone and meaning,” Wen Huaxi said as she waved Wen Qingxun’s little hand.
“Baby girl, how do you say you’re hungry?”
“Oooh ohh~” Wen Qingxun responded right on cue, showing off her unique baby language.
“And how do you say you miss Mommy?”
“Mm ahh…” Stupid Mommy. How could you not know that?
Wen Qingxun put her whole effort into her demonstration. She was determined to make sure Yan Qinglan understood her needs next time.
“And how do you say you’re bored and want to play?”
“Yaa—”
Wen Huaxi kept repeating the sound, going through every common expression Wen Qingxun used in her daily life. She explained each one carefully, and Yan Qinglan sat there, completely stunned.
Luckily, she had recorded the whole video. She had no time to take notes, and there was no way she could remember so many similar-sounding baby phrases after hearing them just once.
Later, while reviewing the recording, she could study the baby’s “language” and maybe take a few extra glances at Wen Huaxi too.
“That should be enough for now. Qinglan, our baby is really special. You have to talk to her more. She’s trying to express herself, and if you really pay attention, you’ll understand,” Wen Huaxi said as she gently scolded the inexperienced mother.
“I’ll do my best,” Yan Qinglan answered seriously under the expectant gaze of both her wife and daughter.
“Hum hum hum hum,” Wen Qingxun grabbed Wen Huaxi’s hand and made a noise that didn’t sound like any of the earlier examples.
Yan Qinglan looked completely confused.
Wen Huaxi nearly burst out laughing.
“Our little one is mocking you. She’s saying you still don’t get it and that you’re too slow.”
She truly deserved her title as the baby-language expert. She understood their daughter’s intent immediately.
Yan Qinglan felt completely defeated. Even a baby was criticizing her now, and she still needed her wife to translate for her.
Determined, she made up her mind to properly study the baby’s “language course” once she got home.
The next afternoon, Wen Huaxi had just returned from teaching and had only been home a couple of minutes when she felt something was off. She opened the door, and just as expected, Yan Qinglan was standing outside.
“The baby doesn’t want to see you,” Wen Huaxi said right away. Thankfully, she only opened the door a little.
She quickly slipped behind the doorframe, showing just her eyes as she peered out at Yan Qinglan.
“I wanted her to test how much I’ve learned,” Yan Qinglan replied, leaning in slightly.
“My most wonderful wife, would you please let me in?”
Wen Huaxi was a little shocked by how shameless she was being.
In those three seconds of silence, she suddenly felt something soft and warm press against her forehead.
“What about now? Can I come in?” Yan Qinglan asked with a gentle smile, clearly trying to bribe her with a kiss.
“No. You’re shameless and completely out of line,” Wen Huaxi said as she stepped back and pushed Yan Qinglan away before she could try anything else. Then she shut the door with a loud slam.
Left standing there, Yan Qinglan touched her lips.
At least she managed to steal a kiss.
She stayed at the door for a while, knocking now and then, but stopped after Wen Huaxi threatened to block her number.
Quietly, she took out the blanket and coat she had packed in advance. She was fully prepared to spend the night outside, just like she had said.
Two hours later, Wen Suixue came home from work.
From a distance, she noticed someone sitting at the door. Her brows furrowed as she grew cautious.
Could it be someone dangerous with bad intentions toward her sister?
She pulled out a can of pepper spray and approached carefully.
A few steps later, she recognized the person’s face.
It really was someone with bad intentions toward her sister.
She sighed.
Putting the pepper spray away, she walked over to Yan Qinglan and asked, “What kind of roleplay are you two doing now?”
“You’re already here. Why aren’t you going in?”
“She won’t let me,” Yan Qinglan answered calmly. She was still sitting on the ground, clearly planning to stay until she was let in.
There was a quiet determination in her posture that made it obvious she wasn’t going to leave until Wen Huaxi opened the door.
Wen Suixue gave up.
“Wen Huaxi, your wife is here. Come out already,” she shouted toward the inside of the house.
“What? I thought she left already,” came Wen Huaxi’s voice from the study.
She stepped out and looked toward the door. Sure enough, there was Yan Qinglan sitting quietly on the floor.
As soon as she saw her, Yan Qinglan stood up and slowly brushed off her clothes, even though there was no dust on them. Still, she didn’t pack up her belongings.
She had not given up.
“You, what are you doing!”
Why did her sister have to catch her in the act again? Where was her pride?
Wen Huaxi, seeing Yan Qinglan in such a state, stopped pretending to be indifferent. She quickly stepped forward, grabbed Yan Qinglan’s hand, and looked her over carefully from head to toe.
Wen Suixue, meanwhile, quietly disappeared into the nursery and went to play with her little niece.
Yan Qinglan wasn’t hurt or sick. Even after sitting in the hallway for two hours, she was completely prepared and well dressed.
But her complexion was pale, her cheeks carried two unnatural patches of red, and her face looked even colder and more distant with those tear-soaked lashes. The contrast made her seem heartbreakingly fragile.
Wen Huaxi felt like she had gone too far and bullied her too much.
She hesitated, then reached out to touch Yan Qinglan’s forehead.
“Are you alright?”
Yan Qinglan shook her head.
“It hurts here,” she whispered as she gently took Wen Huaxi’s hand and placed it over her chest.
Wen Huaxi felt the soft pressure beneath her palm and froze. She was about to scold Yan Qinglan for being shameless, but Yan Qinglan pulled her hand in deeper before she could react.
“My heart aches,” Yan Qinglan said as she used her other hand to wrap around Wen Huaxi’s waist.
“I missed you. Xiaoxi, if you hadn’t opened the door, I really would have stayed outside all night. I meant every word.”
Wen Huaxi could not pull away. She was completely trapped in Yan Qinglan’s embrace.
Surrounded by the familiar warmth and scent, she felt herself soften and was reluctant to let go. She rested quietly in Yan Qinglan’s arms for a long while.
When she had hugged her enough, she finally pushed herself free and stepped back.
Muttering, she said, “Like I care whether you were serious or not.”
“Then do you want me to keep waiting outside?” Yan Qinglan asked softly. Her voice trembled a little, and her gaze held something fragile.
She looked at Wen Huaxi as if to say, if that is what you want, I will do it.
Wen Huaxi quickly covered her face with her hand, completely flustered.
What was she even thinking? Where was her mind going?
“I never said that. Yan Qinglan, since you knew I didn’t want to see you, you should have left on your own.”
She waved her hand in the air and fanned her face, puffed up her cheeks, and plopped down on the sofa with a pout.
Yan Qinglan quietly sat beside her and slipped an arm around her shoulder.
Wen Huaxi didn’t push her away. She just glared at her.
“I wanted to see you. I thought I should show some sincerity,” Yan Qinglan said as she slowly leaned closer.
Her lips, soft and warm, gently brushed against Wen Huaxi’s neck. She moved slowly, testing her limits, letting her lips linger just enough to create a subtle spark.
The warmth of her lips sent tiny electric jolts across Wen Huaxi’s skin. The sensation spread quickly, clouding her mind.
Her breathing became slightly heavier.
Yan Qinglan moved again, guiding Wen Huaxi’s hand toward her own body. Then, in one swift motion, she bit her gently on the neck.
The mix of a ticklish tingle and a sharp sting made Wen Huaxi jolt and open her eyes wide. She jumped up immediately.
“Then go show your sincerity somewhere else,” she said, grabbing Yan Qinglan by the arm and dragging her toward the door.
So now the question was, could Yan Qinglan really win her way into her wife’s bed with this move?
