Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 56
Assistant Director Li quickly stepped forward, his face plastered with a flattering smile.
“President Mu, we’ve already spoken to Lu Tong. She might just need a little more time.”
Mu Chengcheng casually found a place to sit down.
“She’d better know her place. She’s just a rookie who needs money and only has her looks. If she doesn’t stay with me, someone else will still want her.” He spoke casually, treating the unspoken rules of the industry like they were as normal as eating or drinking.
Seeing the powerful investors behind him, Lu Zhi’s face turned pale and sweat began to run down her back.
She couldn’t say a word. Thinking about the “ninety percent” that Li mentioned, her hands started to tremble.
Time passed minute by minute. When it was time to start filming, Mu Chengcheng still didn’t see Lu Tong come to apologize.
He started to feel that something was wrong. He wasn’t scheduled to shoot this morning and had been resting, but he got up anyway, curious to see what the girl he had taken an interest in was doing.
Lu Tong was filming as usual. Her expression was calm, and she seemed completely unaffected by what had happened the day before.
Mu Chengcheng frowned deeply. Just as he was about to approach her, someone stepped into his path.
“If you’re looking for Lu Tong, she doesn’t want to see you.” Wen Huaxi blocked the man who was still trying to push his luck.
Xiao Liu stood quietly behind her, sending updates to Yan Qinglan.
“And who are you supposed to be? Trying to speak up for your best friend? You might want to consider whether you have the status to do that.”
Mu Chengcheng gave Wen Huaxi a dismissive look. If the woman behind her hadn’t been glaring at him the entire time, he probably would have looked her over a few more times.
“It doesn’t matter who I am. What I am is more than enough to deal with someone like you.”
In her previous life, Wen Huaxi had fought many battles with Mu Chengcheng online and had gathered quite a bit of dirt on him. Most of it lacked solid evidence, but she had already asked Xiao Liu’s team to collect the missing pieces. They always delivered.
She remembered how, in the past life, Mu Chengcheng accused her of interfering in his marriage. He used that scandal to transform his image, making her his stepping stone. At the time, she had just acted in an indie film and gained some attention but hadn’t yet risen to fame.
Compared to Mu Chengcheng, a seasoned manipulator with a large fan base, she didn’t stand a chance. She was completely buried by the smear campaign.
“You’ve got a sharp tongue. Must have someone backing you, huh?” Mu Chengcheng narrowed his eyes and stared at her in a way that made Wen Huaxi extremely uncomfortable. She had the urge to gouge his eyes out.
She stepped back, and Xiao Liu moved in to block for her.
Mu Chengcheng’s sponsors weren’t present today, but his handler had arrived.
That group had been trying to catch up with him all morning and had finally found him.
Feeling emboldened by their presence, Mu Chengcheng put on an air of superiority and tried to “advise” Wen Huaxi.
“This industry runs on capital now. If you don’t have someone powerful behind you and you still want to act like this, you’d better find a backer. You should tell your friend the same thing. There’s nothing wrong with sticking with me.”
“Sounds like you’ve got more than one sponsor. Disgusting.” Wen Huaxi glanced over at them thoughtfully.
She guessed that Mu Chengcheng’s two sponsors probably didn’t know about each other yet.
It would be quite the show if they met face-to-face.
Mu Chengcheng’s expression darkened at the word “disgusting.”
“I’ll tell you right now. I’m not leaving or apologizing. I brought in ninety percent of this production’s investment. What makes you think you have the power to force me out?”
“That kind of shady money is better left unused.” Wen Huaxi dialed Wen Sui Xue and, at the same time, messaged the paparazzi contact. She sent over the latest audio and video recordings so the exposure could begin.
Her sister had made plenty of money lately. It was about time she invested some of it into her little sister’s cause.
Before the call connected, a hand gently rested on Wen Huaxi’s shoulder.
“Xiaoxi.”
“Why didn’t you come to me when trouble started?” A clear voice reached her ears, along with the familiar, calming scent that wrapped around her.
Relief washed over her, and she instinctively leaned back.
Yan Qinglan caught her firmly, wrapping an arm around her waist. The two of them stood close, the intimacy between them clear to see.
“I wanted to handle it myself.”
With public opinion on her side and Wen Sui Xue’s investment, she wasn’t afraid of taking Mu Chengcheng down.
Capital wasn’t foolish. No matter how powerful his backers were, if Mu Chengcheng couldn’t bring value, they wouldn’t keep supporting him.
Besides, she had a connection to Director Qin Shuyue. That gave her added support.
This was a rare chance to prove herself, which was why she hadn’t asked Yan Qinglan for help.
“I know how capable you are. But still, you should have told me. I was so worried.”
Yan Qinglan didn’t argue or take over the situation. Her presence alone, as Wen Huaxi’s support and anchor, was enough to warm Wen Huaxi’s heart.
Her ears turned red, and she couldn’t bring herself to look at Yan Qinglan.
Yan Qinglan simply raised her head and glanced at the group of investors.
Her eyes were cold, as if she were looking at a pile of trash.
She had only allowed Wen Huaxi to take a minor supporting role in this film and hadn’t invested too much. Letting the lead actresses take all the profit would have been a loss.
She hadn’t expected someone so disgusting to use this as leverage to threaten her beloved.
The phone call connected at just the right moment.
“Hey, baby sister?”
“Yeah. Sis, can you invest in my new movie?”
“You’re filming again? Aren’t you supposed to be resting at home? Whatever. I’ll invest. You hardly ever ask me for anything. I’ll bring the contract in half an hour.”
As the ultimate overprotective sister, Wen Sui Xue didn’t even ask for the details.
Even if Wen Huaxi were trying to shoot a corny drama with no chance of making money, she would still invest.
After ending the call and noticing Yan Qinglan’s deepening gaze, Wen Huaxi quickly decided it was time to escape the scene.
“I look forward to your performance this afternoon. I hope you’re still feeling this bold by then. You’re right. The entertainment industry is driven by capital. I’ve never used that power before, but I think it’s time I gave it a try.”
She smiled at Mu Chengcheng, then pulled Yan Qinglan back to her dressing room.
Once inside, Yan Qinglan dropped the pretense of being calm.
She pinned Wen Huaxi in the chair, leaning in close and blocking her view.
“Xiaoxi. You called Wen Sui Xue for help and didn’t even think to come to me? Do you not trust me?”
Wen Huaxi swallowed hard.
Yan Qinglan looked genuinely upset. How was she supposed to soothe her?
After all, it was usually Yan Qinglan doing the comforting.
Thinking quickly, Wen Huaxi wrapped her arms around Yan Qinglan’s neck.
“It’s not like that. I absolutely trust you.”
Yan Qinglan nearly fell into her arms from the sudden pull.
She let out a sigh and scooped Wen Huaxi up into her arms, placing her gently onto her lap so she could sit properly.
“I just know you would handle everything really well. You would definitely take care of every problem for me. But still, Sister Qing, I wanted to try solving this ridiculous clown of a man on my own, instead of always depending on your strength.”
Just like when they were trying to find Lu Tong, Yan Qinglan had managed to locate her quickly, arrange immediate medical care, and even send over full surveillance footage of Mu Chengcheng’s abusive behavior.
If she handed everything over to Yan Qinglan every time, Wen Huaxi would feel completely useless.
She leaned against Yan Qinglan, trying to explain her thoughts clearly. If Yan Qinglan didn’t believe her, she would have no way to defend herself.
“What’s mine is yours. Why would that matter?” Yan Qinglan sighed softly.
“So it’s okay when your sister helps you, but when I want to help, it’s not allowed?”
“Oh no, that’s not what I meant, Sister Qing. I just thought asking you would be overkill. It’s just some money. You don’t need to step in personally as the head of the Yan family.” Wen Huaxi leaned in, trying to kiss Yan Qinglan on the cheek.
Yan Qinglan gently stopped her.
“Xiaoxi, nothing about you is small or unimportant. I just want to help in any way I can. That’s part of loving someone, don’t you think?”
But Yan Qinglan wasn’t letting her kiss her.
Wen Huaxi instantly looked aggrieved, puffing her cheeks and holding back tears in her eyes. She looked just like a little pufferfish, visibly upset.
Yan Qinglan, who had hoped to finish the serious conversation before getting affectionate, was left speechless.
“I was wrong,” she finally said with a helpless sigh and leaned in to offer her cheek.
Wen Huaxi pushed her back. “Who said I wanted to kiss you anymore? I changed my mind.”
“Then let me kiss you,” Yan Qinglan replied gently. She realized she had gone too far and made her little kitten upset.
Wen Huaxi’s cowlick twitched with tension. She looked like she might explode.
Yan Qinglan decided to save the rest of the talk for later. She didn’t want Wen Huaxi storming off in anger.
“I don’t want you to kiss me either. You didn’t let me kiss you earlier.” Wen Huaxi complained as she lightly pushed against Yan Qinglan’s chest, though her strength was minimal and clearly hesitant.
Yan Qinglan gently pulled her close, wrapping an arm around her waist and taking her hand.
“Stop, don’t,” Wen Huaxi murmured weakly.
Some people talked tough, but gave in after only a couple of seconds.
As soon as Yan Qinglan’s lips brushed her cheek, Wen Huaxi melted. She couldn’t resist and let Yan Qinglan press kiss after kiss on her face.
Her nose, her eyes, her forehead. None were spared.
In the end, Wen Huaxi was mumbling softly, letting out faint sounds of protest while clearly enjoying the affection.
Yan Qinglan took out a wet wipe and gently dabbed her mouth.
“You’re disgusted by me,” Wen Huaxi muttered, spotting another chance to complain. Her voice was soft, but she was trying to act angry.
“You know I’m a clean freak. It’s not about you.” Yan Qinglan explained patiently. Wen Huaxi had makeup on today because of filming.
As she spoke, she used the wet wipe to gently clean the areas of Wen Huaxi’s face she had kissed.
Wen Huaxi stopped fussing and quietly enjoyed it, holding onto Yan Qinglan’s hand at the same time.
“Yan Qinglan.”
“Yes?”
“Later, make sure you help me fix my makeup.”
Wen Huaxi closed her eyes. Her lashes fluttered slightly under the soft touch of Yan Qinglan’s hand.
“I don’t really know how yet. I’ll go home and practice today.”
Yan Qinglan usually didn’t wear makeup, just basic skincare.
With her status, even if she looked pale or messy, no one dared to criticize her.
“I mostly just want to have fun with it,” Wen Huaxi admitted. She knew Yan Qinglan could never match the skill of a professional makeup artist.
But having her wife do her makeup was something special.
“If I mess up your makeup, you’ll definitely be upset,” Yan Qinglan said seriously. She had just managed to calm down her moody kitten and had no intention of upsetting her again.
“You really think you can ruin this face? That would take talent.” Wen Huaxi grinned proudly. Then she pounced and planted kisses all over Yan Qinglan’s cheek.
“By the way, how did you know to come so quickly?”
“Xiao Liu snitched on you. I got worried and sped over,” Yan Qinglan said, pushing the blame onto her assistant.
In truth, she had never asked anyone to report Wen Huaxi’s every move.
That would have been surveillance, and she wasn’t willing to cross that line.
“That’s not okay. No more speeding. Yan Qinglan, you need to be more careful. I don’t want to be a young widow.”
“I don’t want that either.” Yan Qinglan held Wen Huaxi’s hand a little tighter.
Noticing how serious she was, Wen Huaxi softened immediately.
“As long as both of us stay safe and careful, everything will be fine.”
“Yes.” Yan Qinglan finally relaxed.
They hadn’t noticed how much time had passed until someone knocked on the dressing room door.
Wen Huaxi opened it and saw Wen Suixue standing there.
“Wow, Sis. You got here fast.”
“I was stuck in traffic for five minutes. Where’s the production crew? I’ve already drawn up the contract… wait, why is Yan Qinglan here too?”
Wen Suixue had rushed over excitedly, thinking her little sister had only reached out to her.
But even this annoying Yan Qinglan was here.
So what was the point of her coming? Did she have more money than Yan Qinglan? More influence?
Wen Suixue stared at Yan Qinglan with the kind of look that made it very clear she wanted to stab her.
