This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 68
“That’s impossible, I wouldn’t do something like that.”
Inside the spacious walk-in closet, Duan Yuluo was selecting a shirt for the day with a blank expression, ignoring Lu Xinghe’s constant murmuring behind him. At the same time, he did feel a genuine pain in his rear and couldn’t figure out why it hurt so much.
He walked up to the full-length mirror, took off his loungewear, and put on the white shirt.
“But you were that angry yesterday,” Lu Xinghe stood beside him, extending his hand to simulate holding a phone, pretending to squint down at it. “You looked down like this, saying you couldn’t see the screen clearly, cried that you had to send a message to Alias J, and you actually sent him that exact line.”
He finished and glanced at Duan Yuluo, who was staring back at him with a dark, intense look that he found utterly adorable.
He smiled and stood behind Duan Yuluo, wrapping his arms around his waist from the back to help him button his shirt. “All right, I won’t tease you anymore. Are you still uncomfortable?”
“It hurts terribly,” Duan Yuluo allowed Lu Xinghe to help him with the buttons but expressed confusion. He looked at his reflection in the mirror, full of doubt: “Did I truly hurt myself?”
Lu Xinghe’s lips curled into an almost imperceptible smile: “What else? Before I could even react, you sat down on me. I was hurting too.”
“I suspect you are lying to me.”
“Why would I lie to you?”
“Then…” Duan Yuluo turned his head to look at him: “Why didn’t you stop me?”
Lu Xinghe chuckled softly: “How could I stop you, babe?”
Duan Yuluo muttered a quiet, “I can’t believe myself,” and seeing his shirt was fully buttoned, went to fetch his watch. “It’s a good thing I don’t have any engagements today, or walking like this would be rather impolite.”
“If you really don’t feel well, take the day off,” Lu Xinghe followed him to his side, remembering how he’d cried in his arms for a while last night, complaining of exhaustion. He knew this guy was stubborn and strong-willed.
“I have to go and deal with the patent issue today,” Duan Yuluo chose a brown wristwatch.
Lu Xinghe naturally took it and fastened it onto his wrist. “Do you need me to come with you?”
“No need, I’ve already had people arrange everything. Our odds of winning are still high; they just want to bother me before the Guardian Chip is launched,” Duan Yuluo said. “Trying to challenge my mindset won’t be that easy.”
“Of course not. My baby might be young, but he’s very brave. He handles things just like last night—hiss—” Lu Xinghe stopped mid-sentence as his toes were mercilessly stomped on. He inhaled sharply, looking at the merciless Duan Yuluo, who was brushing past him, his eyes filled with helplessness.
“I think your company is too lax,” Duan Yuluo walked toward the shoe cabinet to pick out his dress shoes. “I’ll bring you under my watch soon enough.”
“And then we’ll have an office romance?”
Duan Yuluo leaned his hand on the cabinet door, bent down, and hooked his fingers around his shoes. “Sure, I’ll offer you a high salary.”
In the full-length mirror, the Omega wore a perfectly tailored shirt and suit trousers. His tall, well-proportioned figure filled the attire completely. His thin, firm shoulders and lean, taut waist were perfectly outlined by the shirt and trousers in the act of putting on his shoes, creating a classic, flawless curve—a pure, yet subtly seductive sexiness hidden beneath the business suit.
The transformation of the youth from fresh and tender to reserved and sensual began with that one surge of rut ignited by his susceptibility period.
He straightened up, checking his attire in the mirror. His gaze inadvertently met Lu Xinghe’s, who was leaning lazily nearby—deep, gentle, and carrying a heat unsuitable for the early morning.
If one paid close attention, the powerful scent of the other party’s Ebony Gin Alpha pheromone was still very strong on his body.
Although his memory from last night was hazy due to the alcohol, his body felt it. Even though he wasn’t in a rut, and his reproductive cavity was difficult to open, he could feel Lu Xinghe’s immense desire for that spot every single time.
Including the look he was giving him right now.
He shifted his gaze, gave a low chuckle, walked over to Lu Xinghe, pulled the collar of his shirt to make him lean down, looked up, and kissed him. Then he walked past him, took the gold-rimmed glasses nearby and put them on, adjusting his cufflink as he walked.
“See you tonight, my dear.”
Lu Xinghe stood with his hands in his pockets, watching Duan Yuluo’s tall, straight figure leave, raising an eyebrow, his eyes full of triumph.
He mused inwardly, How could there be an Omega who is this cute, this sexy, and just happens to be my husband?
CEO’s Office
Duan Yuluo was drinking a latte, his gaze fixed intently on his computer screen. An outsider would assume he was reviewing documents, but a closer look showed he was chatting with Alias J. The initial exchange was very formal.
[Alias J: You gave me access, which is a sign of trust. It is my honor to be recognized by Galaxy Group.]
[Duan: Your skills have been observed by all my programmers. Since Galaxy’s security system in Country D and the China headquarters use different companies, there have been some minor loopholes. Because this chip is extremely important and its successful launch is at stake, I would like to invite you to join every upcoming test. Money is not an issue.]
They had already gathered ample evidence for the patent case. Now, all that was needed was for the chip to be launched as scheduled. The press conference had to showcase the might of the Guardian Chip to the world, and his patent absolutely could not be stolen.
Therefore, an individual with exceptional network technology skills was needed to protect every test before the launch.
[Alias J: I don’t think money counts as sincerity.]
Duan Yuluo’s hands paused on the keyboard. He pondered for a moment, then quickly typed:
[Duan: What do you want?]
[Alias J: I want to meet you in person.]
Duan Yuluo: “…” He picked up his coffee cup and took a strategic sip. Although he shouldn’t overthink it—it might just be a simple desire to meet—he couldn’t shake the memory of that spinning dog and the rose emoji from before, which cemented his first impression.
Alias J is unprofessional.
[Alias J: I’ve long heard that Young CEO Duan is young and accomplished, and a strikingly handsome Omega.]
Upon seeing this sentence, Duan Yuluo sensed the conversation was heading in the wrong direction. He wasn’t that slow; if this topic continued, it would lead to a different story: [I’m sorry, I am married.]
[Alias J: Oh? Is your spouse a tall, handsome Alpha?]
[Duan: You can check the news.]
On the other end, Lu Xinghe, Alias J, went: “…” This dialogue sounds familiar.
He realized his husband seemed to be getting angry and quickly typed: [Baobe—] ‘Baobei’ (Baby). After noticing the mistake, he thought about retracting it but realized he had accidentally sent it. Since it was sent, he had no choice but to take a sudden turn and add a word.
[Baobei-Juice, I’m sorry.]
Duan Yuluo: “…” He was again debating whether he should offer this person a high salary and hire him.
What a wonderful phrase, ‘Baobei-Juice.’ He probably hired a customer service agent.
He didn’t know if he should continue the conversation now.
[Alias J: I like to joke around. My apologies if I offended you. Let’s not chat anymore and get straight to business.]
Duan Yuluo: “…” He was getting a headache. He picked up the latte and finished it in one go. He had been serious the entire time and hadn’t been chatting. If this person could start a casual conversation like this, he must be a perennial bachelor who couldn’t resist chatting up anyone he met.
Nevertheless, he replied politely: [It’s fine. You are quite witty and humorous.]
[Alias J: I think so too.]
Duan Yuluo: “…”
[Alias J: Young CEO Duan, I’d like to ask, how many people know that you’ve given me access?]
Duan Yuluo: [No one knows.]
[Alias J: Last time it was a remote operation, so many people probably saw it, which is why I didn’t elaborate. The source code leak was not an external intrusion; it might be an internal leak.]
Duan Yuluo’s breathing hitched. The look in his eyes beneath his glasses was dark and unclear. His hands were clasped together, suppressing a reaction, and his knuckles went white from the tension. The stinging in his chest started again. As the pain intensified, he took several deep breaths to try and calm his nerves.
He typed on the keyboard: [Explain.]
[Alias J: This involves a lot of technical jargon, which is hard to explain in a few words, but I can help you catch this person through a test.]
[Duan: What kind of test?]
[Alias J: A confrontation test. I can disguise myself as a hacker attacking the server, and I’ll only need two minutes to help you catch the culprit. However…]
Duan Yuluo naturally pressed for more information: [However, what?]
He had only been sitting in the position of Executive CEO for a short half-year. The biggest difference between the domestic and foreign offices was the character and composition of the staff. As a branch company developing in a foreign country, it housed numerous elite professionals from various nations. The talented were countless. Earning the trust and respect of this group of elites was a long process.
Evidently, this process was not as simple as he thought.
If Alias J’s words were true, someone was lurking in the Technical Department, potentially controlling the core of Galaxy. The issue of the patent being registered ahead of them also made sense; no one outside of the core members could know the most essential code of the Guardian Chip.
[Alias J: The entire building will lose power for that instant.]
Duan Yuluo’s hand froze. His eyes flickered, and his fingers rubbed the edge of the keyboard. He desperately tried to overcome his fear, took several deep breaths, and then replied: [Okay.]
[Alias J: Do you trust me?]
Duan Yuluo leaned back in his chair, staring at the words on the screen. He was the new CEO at Galaxy. Without a strong assistant by his side, he had to overcome many crises, and in each crisis, discover the people he needed.
And eliminate those with ulterior motives.
He also needed to win people over through a series of decisions.
Every step he took now was on a knife’s edge. Since he was already taking a risk, giving his trust was just another form of it. Furthermore, this was the person his uncle had recommended to him, which offered a slight sense of security that put him at ease.
He sat up and typed three words:
[I trust you.]
The reply came quickly:
[Alias J: Don’t worry. After the ‘attack,’ I will appear and personally help you catch the ‘spy.’]
Duan Yuluo stared at the message, a peculiar feeling washing over him. Besides knowing the person was a top-tier, confident programmer, he also felt a sense of security that was hard to describe, a feeling of fighting side-by-side.
From the beginning of their contact, he hadn’t mentioned money once. Whenever money was brought up, he was distracted by an emoji rose.
Since there’s no such thing as a free lunch, he couldn’t help but ask one more time: [Mr. J, you can tell me your ideal compensation. I cannot have you work for me for free.]
[Alias J: I’m not short on money. I’m very rich.]
Duan Yuluo: “…”
[Alias J: I accepted the mission because the object of the mission is you. To be honest, I’ve admired you for a long time.]
Duan Yuluo: “?” One moment he made him feel like a comrade in arms, and the next, he was unreliable again.
[Alias J: So, a hug when we meet will be enough compensation.]
Duan Yuluo stared at the word ‘hug’ thoughtfully. In a flash of intuition, a familiar face popped into his mind, but it was fleeting. He replied:
[Since Mr. J has said so, I agree.]
[Alias J: Oh dear, but won’t your husband get jealous? shy.jpg]
Duan Yuluo: “.”
[Alias J: Well, I really can’t refuse such a generous offer. That’s settled then. Wait for my handsome entrance!]
Before Duan Yuluo could reply, the other party’s rose profile picture turned gray—offline. He sat and looked at it for a while, then stood up, pushed his chair back, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, thoughtfully gazing at the towering skyscrapers outside.
In this moment, he truly understood the immense pressure that came with being the heir to Galaxy Group.
He instinctively rubbed the ring on his ring finger.
On the other side, at Haven Company.
“Mr. Lu, what’s your schedule for this afternoon?” the secretary asked, standing by his desk.
He was one of the few CEOs who planned his own schedule.
Lu Xinghe leaned back in his chair lazily, his long legs crossed, twirling the ring on his ring finger. Hearing the secretary, he looked up indifferently, a slight smile on his lips:
“I’m going to go get a hug from my husband.”
