This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 57
Emergency Department beds moved constantly, and the doctors were in an almost continuous state of rushing.
When Lu Xinghe stormed in, the nurse at the front desk immediately intercepted him.
“Sir, what’s wrong? Has your gland been attacked?” The nurse saw the tall young man who walked in was pale-faced and, at a glance, looked a bit familiar. However, this was no time for recognition, as the back collar of his shirt was stained with blood. Assuming something serious had happened, she immediately stepped forward to support him and inquire.
But as she got closer, she smelled something unusual: an incredibly intense scent of Alpha pheromones!
This was a case of inhibitor failure!
“I’m looking for someone.” Lu Xinghe anxiously scanned the Emergency Department; people were everywhere his eyes landed. His eyes were filled with panic. He gripped the nurse’s arm tightly: “My Omega was brought in. His name is Jacob, and he is a Hua Xia citizen.”
In his urgency, he rattled off his identity card number, home address, mobile phone number, and school name.
The nurse’s head was spinning from the barrage of information, but when she heard the words “Hua Xia citizen,” she thought of the beautiful young man brought in fifteen minutes ago. She quickly nodded and urged him not to worry: “I know, I know. Please don’t panic. He’s inside and is already awake. I feel like you look like you need a doctor’s help more right now; your inhibitor seems to have failed.”
The instant Lu Xinghe heard the nurse confirm that his partner was awake, his legs instantly felt weak. Like a man having survived a disaster, his mind relaxed just a little. He bent over, supporting himself on his knees and gulping for air: “…He’s awake, is that right? Good, I’ll go find him.”
Just as he was about to take a deep breath and stand up, he saw someone walk up to him, and he recognized the familiar white sneakers.
He had helped him put them on this morning; he had even tied the laces.
“Xingxing.”
He abruptly lifted his head and saw Duan Yu’luo standing before him. His complexion was not good, and small red spots were still visible on his cheeks, neck, and arms. His nose immediately stung. He lowered his head to wipe his face, then stood up and pulled the man into his arms.
“Duan Yu’luo, you scared me to death.”
Duan Yu’luo was held in the embrace, resting his chin on Lu Xinghe’s shoulder. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the blood on the collar of the shirt and smelled the unusually strong Alpha pheromones, which made his legs feel a little weak.
“Xingxing, your neck—”
Lu Xinghe released him before he could finish, cupping the other man’s face to check him. He examined his neck and then his arms. The sight of those allergic red spots made him increasingly distraught, and his tears truly could not be held back.
The current depth of his tears and despair matched the intensity of his rage just moments ago.
“Didn’t I tell you to be extremely careful about what you eat and drink? An allergy can be major or minor! You have no idea… when your colleague called, my legs went instantly numb.”
Duan Yu’luo saw that Lu Xinghe’s expression was poor. He tugged at his collar, urging him to bend his head down, and looked at the back of his neck, furrowing his brow. He discovered a spot on the back of the neck that had already scabbed over, which should be the location of the Alpha gland.
There was also a very concentrated scent of Alpha pheromones—Lu Xinghe’s Ebony Piano Gin.
“How did this happen?”
“Anger.”
Duan Yu’luo took Lu Xinghe’s hand and led him to the front desk, helping him register for an emergency appointment to treat the back of his neck. Hearing the explanation, he frowned: “Who made you angry? Your grandmother? Let the doctor look at you first; the back of your neck looks a bit severe. Do you feel unwell anywhere?”
He had just finished speaking when Lu Xinghe grabbed his arm. Duan Yu’luo turned his head in confusion, meeting Lu Xinghe’s deep and complex eyes directly. His heart softened: “What is it?”
“You worry about yourself first. That question should be coming from me. Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”
Duan Yu’luo realized why he asked, and he smiled faintly: “I’m fine. What happened just now sounded terrifying, but the doctor arrived very quickly. I woke up after ten minutes. It’s just a bit itchy now.”
As the words left his mouth, Lu Xinghe’s hand pinched his face.
He blinked his eyes in surprise and confusion.
Lu Xinghe’s chest rose and fell slightly, his expression one of both helplessness and worry. Seeing him still able to smile like this, he couldn’t bring himself to scold him. He could only pinch his face: “I don’t have enough lives to be scared by you like this. I almost got pulled over by the traffic police just now.”
Duan Yu’luo’s eyes widened: “Did you run a red light?!”
“No, I wouldn’t dare.”
Duan Yu’luo frowned, pulling away the hand Lu Xinghe was pinching his face with: “Then did you speed?”
Lu Xinghe shook his head: “No. It was my pheromones. The inhibitor might have failed, and for a while, the inhibitor’s effect wasn’t very strong, which was disrupting traffic.”
Duan Yu’luo: “…We should see a doctor anyway and get an inhibitor booster.” He pressed his nose close to Lu Xinghe’s collar; the scent was one he liked very much. After inhaling it, he pulled away: “It smells very good, but it’s too strong. It’s better to hide the scent.”
Lu Xinghe saw that he still had the composure to sniff his pheromones and was momentarily at a loss for words. He could only pull the man tightly into his arms again to comfort himself after the panic he had just felt.
“Hey, Jacob, why did you run off here? Here are your medications.” Jacek (捷克), coming from the pharmacy with a bag, walked in and found Duan Yu’luo being hugged by a tall young man. When he took a closer look at the face, two seconds later, he jumped back, eyes wide: “WOC (a Chinese internet slang exclamation), this, this, this, isn’t this—”
Duan Yu’luo was startled by Jacek’s loud voice. He turned his head and saw Jacek pointing at Lu Xinghe with a look as if he’d seen a ghost: “What is it? Do you two know each other?”
Lu Xinghe: “…” He looked at the man before him with a full beard, thinking he probably didn’t know him, and shook his head.
Jacek handed the medicine to Duan Yu’luo, then walked up to Lu Xinghe, grasped his hand, and shook it vigorously, his eyes shining: “Prince Bennett (Bennett王子), it is you, right!” Before Lu Xinghe could respond, he gave him a big hug: “Ah! I’ve met the real person! An honor, an honor!”
Lu Xinghe: “…” Being hugged so enthusiastically by an Alpha he didn’t know was quite unexpected. He could only maintain his composure, forcing a smile, and subtly pulling back: “Hello.”
Jacek was as excited as a star-struck fan, jumping and leaping around like a monkey, shouting things like “Wuhu (another Chinese internet slang exclamation)” and saying he wouldn’t wash his hands. But he quickly froze in place.
Duan Yu’luo: “?”
“Wait, Jacob!” Jacek seemed to have just thought of something. He pointed at Duan Yu’luo, then at Lu Xinghe, looking between the two of them: “Are you two… a couple?! Jacob, your Alpha is Prince Bennett?! WOC! F*ck!”
Duan Yu’luo: “…” This guy certainly employed both the Chinese vernacular and Western swear words to their full extent. However, this wasn’t the time for that. Hearing their number called, he pulled Lu Xinghe towards the Emergency Department doctor: “We’ll talk later.”
Inside the Emergency Department consultation room.
The doctor was treating the small wound on the back of Lu Xinghe’s gland: “Have your emotions been fluctuating a lot recently? To the point where the inhibitor failed… this can cause damage to your own body. Such an aggressive emotional state can easily lead to pheromone dysregulation and the onset of a rutting period (易感期).”
“I’m giving you a new inhibitor shot now. Please pay close attention to your state during this time.”
Duan Yu’luo stood by Lu Xinghe’s side. Hearing the doctor say this, he couldn’t help but tighten his grip on Lu Xinghe’s hand. His gaze followed the doctor’s hands, especially when applying medicine to the Alpha gland. When he saw the doctor use tweezers to peel off the scabbed skin, his eyebrow twitched.
…A rutting period.
Would the failed inhibitor cause Lu Xinghe to enter his rut?
“I’m fine, don’t worry too much. The doctor will give me a shot, and I’ll be okay.” Lu Xinghe held Duan Yu’luo’s slightly cool hand, saw the red spots on his arm, touched them, and looked up to ask: “Is it still itchy now?”
Duan Yu’luo kept his expression neutral, smiled, and shook his head: “Not itchy. It’s much better.”
Lu Xinghe held the hand tightly, murmured, “Mm-hmm,” his expression showing the weariness of slight relaxation: “Good. If you feel uncomfortable, you absolutely must tell me.”
Duan Yu’luo’s gaze fell on Lu Xinghe’s tired appearance. He worried in his heart: what exactly was that old woman (grandmother) tormenting Lu Xinghe with recently? She had managed to make his dear one look so haggard and even caused the inhibitor to fail.
Although the shock of his allergy might have contributed, it shouldn’t be that terrifying.
The two left the Emergency Department, thanked Jacek, and waved goodbye.
Walking to the parking lot.
“I’ll drive.” Duan Yu’luo took the car keys from Lu Xinghe’s hand. Seeing the surprise on his face, he continued: “I’m fine now. I actually think you’re the one who is uncomfortable. There’s no need to push yourself in front of me; get some rest.”
Lu Xinghe’s eyes flickered. After a moment of silence: “Okay.”
On the drive back, Duan Yu’luo kept observing Lu Xinghe in the passenger seat. He saw him leaning back against the seat with his eyes closed, appearing to be resting, but he rarely saw him in such a drained state.
He still hadn’t woken up even after the car drove into the garage.
He couldn’t bear to wake the man, so he just sat in the driver’s seat, keeping him company.
Night fell.
The garage, which usually had its lights on when it got dark, uncharacteristically remained unlit today.
Lu Xinghe felt himself drifting in and out of sleep. He woke up when he felt a hand shaking his own. He realized he was still in the car, and the lights inside were off. He could faintly see that the sky outside had turned completely dark.
It was in that moment that he abruptly woke up, raising his hand to feel for the overhead light.
“…You’re finally awake.”
He turned his body, met Duan Yu’luo’s slightly aggrieved gaze, and instantly realized with remorse that he had fallen asleep in the car after returning from the hospital. He leaned in and kissed him: “I’m sorry, baby. Why didn’t you wake me up? Aren’t you afraid of the dark without the lights on?”
“I was afraid, but you were sleeping, and I saw that you looked very tired.” Duan Yu’luo thought that his hands were practically sweating from holding on; he had watched the sky darken with his own eyes. However, seeing that Lu Xinghe’s spirit had slightly recovered, he let out a sigh of relief: “Do you feel better now?”
“A little better.” Lu Xinghe unfastened his seatbelt, opened his car door, walked over to the driver’s seat, and opened the door for him to get out.
Duan Yu’luo then got out of the car. Having sat in the car for almost four hours, his bottom was numb. Just two steps out, Lu Xinghe hugged him from behind. He felt him bury his head into his neck. It tickled a little, and he couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Lu Xinghe inhaled the scent of Duan Yu’luo’s Omega pheromones from the back of his neck, his eyes filled with a mix of affection and restraint.
The two walked inside, like Siamese twins joined at the hip.
Dinner was ordered in, as they were both incapable of cooking.
After a simple meal, the two, for once, did not handle any work matters. They simply leaned on the sofa, embracing each other, listening to quiet, light music. Neither spoke, savoring this moment of relaxation.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows was the night scenery, dotted with stars. The indoor lighting was a gentle, warm yellow.
Duan Yu’luo was in Lu Xinghe’s “bear hug.” Their legs were crossed in a very intimate position, with Lu Xinghe’s head resting on his chest. He also held the head resting on his chest, looked down to kiss it, and then rested his cheek against Lu Xinghe’s head, saying gently:
“Xingxing, I’m not trying to force you to do anything, nor do I want you to have any distress or difficulty when facing our choices. I know you love me very much, and I love you, too. I don’t want you to be so stressed.”
Lu Xinghe looked up, meeting the eyes that were watching him so gently: “Don’t you trust me?”
“Of course, I trust you. I just don’t want to see you so tired every day.” Duan Yu’luo stroked the handsome face, cupping it, and examining it for a few moments: “Mmm, you truly look exhausted.”
He didn’t know how Lu Xinghe’s grandmother was making things difficult for him recently. It looked like he would have to think of a way to resolve it. This was his Alpha, and no one could make things difficult for him.
“Are you tired of me?”
Duan Yu’luo’s eyes curved with a smile. He lowered his head and kissed his eyelids very gently, then softly embraced his head with both arms, coaxing him: “No. I want you to sleep well. I’m going to hold you now, and we’ll both sleep well.”
The two lay side-by-side on the sofa, embracing each other face-to-face.
Indeed, they needed a good night’s sleep.
…
In the middle of the night, Duan Yu’luo felt like he was being hugged by a ball of fire; he was hot and sweating. Then, he was awakened by kisses.
A flurry of dense and disorderly kisses fell upon his neck.
He opened his eyes and realized he had been moved back to the bedroom to sleep. The bedside lamp was on, and he was held in Lu Xinghe’s arms.
With a confused look, he lifted his head from the chest and saw that Lu Xinghe’s face was flushed with an abnormal redness. His bloodshot eyes were fixated on him, with a gaze that seemed ready to devour him. His breathing was rapid, and the breath he exhaled was scalding hot.
The air was thick with the concentrated Ebony Piano Gin Alpha pheromones, enveloping everything in an overwhelming blanket.
It was obvious: the inhibitor had failed again. The entire room was filled with the unrestrained Alpha scent, which, for high-compatibility AO (Alpha/Omega) partners, was completely irresistible.
A dangerous presence approached.
The tall body rolled over and supported itself above him, his muscular forearm resting close to his ear. The back of his neck was gripped by a slightly rough palm, forcefully raising his head and thrusting his gaze into the scorching heat of Lu Xinghe’s eyes.
He was still in a half-asleep state. Before he could react to Lu Xinghe’s sudden actions, kisses landed on his earlobe. The deep, hoarse voice held a plea, but the grip on his neck was firm, forcefully tilting his head back.
Their eyes met. The other’s excessively ardent gaze made him feel that escape was impossible.
“Baby, please, I beg you, give it to me.”
