This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 47
The door slowly opened.
Luo Yu’duan was standing at the entrance, dressed in a white T-shirt and black overalls. His frame was tall and strong, and his expression was flat, making him look like someone who had come to collect a debt.
Duan Yu’luo: “…”
He found it highly unlikely that his elder brother would appear here. Wasn’t his brother forbidden to leave the country?
The two brothers stared at each other for a few seconds.
“Why did it take you so long to open the door?” Luo Yu’duan spoke first. His hands were in his pockets, his broad shoulders were straight, and he looked down slightly, calmly regarding his twin brother, whom he hadn’t seen in three years. He made no move to enter.
Duan Yu’luo proactively stepped aside, giving his brother space to enter: “How are you able to leave the country? Did you escape?”
Luo Yu’duan glanced at the shoes placed in the entryway, the size clearly different from the pair next to them. He subtly shifted his gaze: “Is anyone home?”
Duan Yu’luo did not answer the question. He prepared to turn and walk into the room, thinking his brother would follow, but his wrist was suddenly grabbed by his brother. He turned his head suspiciously to look at him.
“Is anyone home?” Luo Yu’duan repeated.
Duan Yu’luo met his brother’s gaze, which held a mix of warning and inquiry in its depth. It felt very strange, a sense that he was asking something he already knew. Although they had been separated for several years, they knew each other best, and these strange words were intriguing.
He hesitated for two seconds, said nothing, simply looked at his older brother, and nodded.
Then, he saw a look of relief in his brother’s eyes. Following that, his brother pulled something from his pocket, similar to an earpiece, and crushed it forcefully in his hand until the chip was visible.
Duan Yu’luo: “…?” He knitted his brows, a little confused.
What was that?
“Get inside.” Luo Yu’duan put his arm around his younger brother’s shoulder, glanced outside the door before closing it, and then shut the door.
“Wait.” Duan Yu’luo grabbed the hand his brother had placed on his shoulder, still quite confused: “No, how could you be here? Aren’t you unable to leave the country?”
He didn’t know the specifics of what his brother did in the military—it was classified—but that didn’t mean he lacked common sense. By all logic, his brother shouldn’t be able to leave the military base casually. His sudden appearance here was very abnormal.
As he spoke, he saw his brother stop in the hallway by the master bedroom, looking at something he seemed to have discovered for a moment.
Duan Yu’luo felt a sudden wave of guilt.
He had asked Lu Xinghe to hide, but he didn’t know where he had gone. However, he probably didn’t need to hide anyway; with his brother’s nose, there was essentially nowhere to conceal an Alpha.
“I remember Dad saying you live alone.” Luo Yu’duan glanced sideways at his younger brother and raised an eyebrow: “Where is that Alpha pheromone scent coming from? Is Lu Xinghe hiding in there?”
Duan Yu’luo’s throat tightened; there was no need to explain.
He still tried: “Well, Ge, no, he just… came over to study.” Meeting his brother’s eyes, he became less and less confident until he could only point toward the master bedroom.
Luo Yu’duan let out a half-smile, nodded, and walked toward the master bedroom. Standing in front of the door, he took his hands out of his pockets and casually knocked.
A few seconds later, the master bedroom door tentatively, slowly opened. A head poked out, and a voice emerged before the figure: “Baobao, is your brother gone?”
He looked up and found himself staring directly into the eyes of his brother-in-law. The gaze was sharp and scrutinizing, with hands in pockets, looking very tough and aggressive.
Lu Xinghe: “…”
He shot Duan Yu’luo a resentful look. Why didn’t he send him a message? He scared him to death.
In the living room.
The two who had been caught in the act sat on one side of the sofa, with the elder brother sitting across from them.
“When did you two start living together?”
The tone of the question was calm, yet it sent a chill down their spines, giving them the sense of being caught in an underage romance, although they were past that age.
Duan Yu’luo noted that his brother didn’t ask when he and Lu Xinghe got together, but when they started living together. He realized the purpose of the visit wasn’t just to see him, nor was it a chance encounter, so he answered truthfully: “The first day we moved abroad.”
A laugh sounded.
It was impossible to tell the emotion behind it.
Lu Xinghe didn’t want Duan Yu’luo to bear the brunt of the interrogation. He sat upright, his hands on his knees, and looked directly at Luo Yu’duan: “I can guarantee that I absolutely will not touch him or mark him before we are officially married. I love him, and I will protect him well. Big Brother, please rest assured.”
Duan Yu’luo felt a warmth in his heart and glanced sideways at Lu Xinghe.
Their hands were tightly intertwined.
Luo Yu’duan naturally caught the flirtatious eye contact between the two. He didn’t waste time, placing the crushed chip on the coffee table: “This is a listening device I found outside your apartment. I didn’t come here by chance this time; I was assigned to come as part of a joint operation. I didn’t expect it to be you two until I saw the apartment number and remembered you live here.”
“A listening device?” Duan Yu’luo looked at the chip on the coffee table, a confused look on his face: “What does this mean?”
“It’s related to the anti-Secondary Differentiation Gene Testing protest in Country D. I can’t disclose the specific reason for my arrival, but the main point I need to make now is that both of you are currently in some danger.”
“One is Lu Xinghe. You are the Crown Prince of Country D. The Queen strongly supports the full implementation of the Secondary Differentiation Gene Testing across the country, but some citizens oppose it. You are very likely to become a target for these radical citizens, as they indiscriminately hate the Country D royal family.”
“And Zai Zai, you wrote this plan. The Galaxy Group and Country D are jointly promoting this gene testing plan. The radicals opposing the plan are aware that you are studying in Country D, and your situation is very dangerous.”
Luo Yu’duan placed his hands on his spread thighs, his expression serious, looking at the two young men: “From now on, my suggestion is that you two stay together and try not to separate. That way, it’s possible to focus all protective resources on you, allowing you to safely get through this period.”
Duan Yu’luo leaned back on the sofa, listening silently.
Lu Xinghe observed Duan Yu’luo from the corner of his eye, noticing that he wasn’t in a very good mood. He knew what was bothering him, which was likely the backlash against the plan to promote Secondary Differentiation Gene Defect testing.
In recent years, Duan Yu’luo’s research focus has been on Secondary Differentiation Gene Defects, making him the youngest researcher in the field. The plan was not only intended to provide better living assistance for patients with the defect, such as implanting Artificial Intelligence (AI), but also to raise public awareness of the issue.
As the plan expanded, with strong governmental support, and even Country D’s backing, the initiative was first rolled out in the two countries. However, the resulting problem was that more and more people were detected with the Secondary Differentiation Gene Defect.
The gene defect, whether major or minor, was like a bomb. The plan was the fuse, and the public’s anxiety was slowly igniting this time bomb.
The controversy stemmed from the fact that people who might have lived out their lives ignorantly were now being forced to accept this reality.
The situation in China might be manageable, with strong state support and subsidies alleviating difficulties to some extent. But in Country D, where national circumstances are different, the plan was an unbearable reality for some extremely poor populations.
Just as Duan Yu’luo felt melancholic, the hand he was holding tightened slightly. He looked up at Lu Xinghe.
“It’s okay. I’m definitely standing with you. I’m not speaking lightly here; I believe this plan is a blessing. We can’t just look at the short-term present, but at saving this population. Earlier detection and earlier intervention might alleviate some of the suffering.”
Lu Xinghe squeezed the hand, which was smaller than his, looking at the Omega he had grown up with. He smiled: “They might not be able to accept it right now, but I believe that as the policy slowly improves, they will understand what a great thing this is.”
Duan Yu’luo felt a sudden heavy weight lift from his heart. He looked at his brother. If it weren’t for his brother’s sudden appearance, he might not have fully considered that the recent protests were due to this matter.
He lowered his eyes, looking at the hand rubbing the back of his own, sensing that Lu Xinghe was comforting him, but he wasn’t in the mood to respond right now.
“I can only say so much. I’m leaving.” Luo Yu’duan stood up, thinking he’d probably get scolded by the commander for leaving his post soon. He didn’t linger. He stood up, walked a few steps, and lightly tapped his younger brother’s head: “There’s nothing to worry about. If the higher-ups approved me coming here, they won’t let anything happen to you two. Just stay together obediently for this period.”
Lu Xinghe stood up, intercepted the hand the elder brother used to pat his ‘wife’s’ head, and shook it firmly: “Don’t worry, Big Brother. He and I will stick together the whole time.”
Luo Yu’duan withdrew his hand, his eyes warning: “You had better be honest. Change your car; your black one has been noticed. Stick to two points and one line for this period: school and home.”
“Yes, I promise!”
Duan Yu’luo listened to his brother’s final instructions, nodded, and only looked at Lu Xinghe after his brother had left and the door was closed.
In the entryway, the handsome youth’s eyes were filled with self-reproach and frustration. The look he cast over was perplexed and pleading, making one’s heart soften.
“It’s alright, don’t worry. Country D frequently has protests. You have to believe that this plan was executed only after extremely careful consideration. It wouldn’t be implemented lightly. Think about it: the Secondary Differentiation Gene Defect has existed for over a decade. The plan has been in the works for a long time, carried out only after so many years of preparation. If they weren’t confident, how could they proceed? So, this kind of public opinion is normal.”
“Besides, your brother is here. What is there to fear?”
Duan Yu’luo felt his head being rubbed. Instinctively, he lowered his head, resting it on Lu Xinghe’s shoulder, a gesture of dependency. He mumbled: “I just didn’t expect so many people to think this is a bigger disadvantage than a benefit.”
Since the CTB competition in his first year of high school, his conviction to research this area had grown stronger. Especially before he went abroad in his senior year, Mengqi at the welfare center finally had an AI implanted in his Hyper-Memory Chip, allowing him to use thought to control the smart AI voice system and produce sound.
This gave him the confidence to continue, and he received a lot of recognition.
However, this path was harder than he imagined and even required facing a certain cost.
As he was feeling down, Lu Xinghe abruptly lifted him up, face-to-face, his strong arms supporting his hips, and carried him toward the bedroom.
“Your brother already said that from now on, as long as we stick together, we will be well protected. Don’t worry.” Lu Xinghe kissed him near his ear, gently coaxing: “Should I sing you a song to cheer you up?”
Duan Yu’luo: “…You sing off-key. No, thank you.”
“Then I’ll tell you a story?”
“Not a ghost story.”
“How about I give you a massage?”
“You’re just taking advantage of me.”
Lu Xinghe placed Duan Yu’luo on the edge of the bed. He knelt on one knee on the bed, his body weight causing the bed to dip in that corner. He interlaced his fingers with Duan Yu’luo’s, laid him down on the bed, and then leaned over him, pressing the hand he was holding against the other’s head, while using his other hand to support himself beside the other’s face.
The large Alpha body covered Duan Yu’luo, like a net of ultimate security, completely enveloping him, along with the highly compatible pheromones.
“Baobao, you need to think of yourself as amazing.”
Duan Yu’luo felt the other’s head bury into his shoulder and neck. The slightly stiff hairs brushed his neck, causing a tingling sensation. The voice was a gentle coaxing, but the action was a deliberate provocation. He turned his face away: “How can I think of myself as amazing?”
As the words fell, his neck was held by a palm. His chin was slightly raised, and his gaze met the eyes looking down at him.
They were ardent and certain.
“Duan Yu’luo, you need to be more confident. I’m literally preparing to give up my title for you.” Lu Xinghe said.
Duan Yu’luo was stunned. He stared at Lu Xinghe blankly.
Lu Xinghe lowered his head, lightly touched his forehead, and placed a fleeting kiss on his lips. He gazed at him: “You have to make me worship you more, make me lose myself because of you, make me feel like I can lose everything except you. Make me a true love addict, make me revolve only around you.”
“You are outstanding. In my eyes, you are the smartest.”
“So, Baobao, will you stop being unhappy?”
Lu Xinghe’s lips kissed the corner of his mouth, a tenderness softer than mere coaxing.
