This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 24
The physical education class was over, and the second class was self-study.
“I just passed by the teachers’ office and heard that the sports meet is in two weeks!”
“Woohoo, that’s great. The sports meet is finally here.”
“The Model United Nations is also about to start.”
As soon as Duan Yu Luo walked into the classroom, he heard his classmates talking about the sports meet and the Model United Nations. He listened with great interest, almost wanting to join their discussion.
After all, he was at an age where he liked to have fun, and he preferred outdoor activities over academics.
Lu Xing He saw that Duan Yu Luo’s ears were almost perked up, wanting to chat but being too well-behaved to do so. “If you want to talk, just go and talk. Why are you being so obedient?”
“I can hear enough from here,” Duan Yu Luo said, pulling out his chair and sitting down. He reached into his desk drawer to grab his laptop, but he felt something else. He was stunned for a moment and took it out to look.
It was a pink letter. It wasn’t written in Chinese but in English.
To: Jacob
This was his English name, but he had never used it at school.
He subconsciously looked at Lu Xing He and handed him the love letter.
“Why are you giving it to me?” Lu Xing He raised his eyebrow. He pulled out the chair next to him, sat down with his legs apart, clasped his hands together on his lap, and smiled. “Let’s see who wrote it.”
“Didn’t you tell me not to read love letters from other people?”
“How would you know who sent it if you don’t read it?” Lu Xing He slightly raised his chin, signaling him to open it.
Duan Yu Luo looked at him strangely. This guy’s words were different from what he had said a second ago. It was so weird. He hesitantly tore a corner of the letter and then looked up at Lu Xing He again. “I’m really opening it?”
Lu Xing He took a deep breath, sat up, and leaned back on the chair. He nodded calmly. “Yes, open it.”
Duan Yu Luo tore open the letter. He took it out and found it was a postcard with only a simple sentence:
Nice to meet you.
There was no signature, so he couldn’t tell if it was a love letter or what. Most likely, it wasn’t a love letter.
Duan Yu Luo flipped the postcard over, feeling confused by the random greeting. “…Is this a prank?”
Lu Xing He heard him say that. He reached out, took the postcard, and pointed to the sentence. “Read this sentence carefully.”
Duan Yu Luo looked at Lu Xing He and said seriously, “I think it’s a prank.”
Lu Xing He was speechless. He didn’t know what to say. “Then you should keep it.”
“Didn’t you tell me not to casually accept love letters from other people?”
“You said it was a prank, not a love letter, so you can keep it.”
“Shouldn’t I give it back?”
“How are you going to give it back when you don’t even know who it is? Just keep it.”
Duan Yu Luo noticed that Lu Xing He’s tone was a little harsh and gave him a long look.
Lu Xing He knew that he had sounded a little harsh. He put his arm around his shoulder and lowered his voice. “Look, ‘nice to meet you.’ That’s a friendly greeting, isn’t it? So, they don’t have bad intentions toward you. It’s a good thing to keep it, right?”
Duan Yu Luo didn’t really care about keeping it or not. This was all because of Lu Xing He. He let Lu Xing He talk and flipped to the back of the postcard. His eyes fell on the building on the back of the postcard.
It looked like a Western church. The building was a special white and blue color. Solemnity and healing were blended together. In addition, the white angel sculpture on top of the building was particularly beautiful against the sunny background.
He didn’t recognize the building.
“Xing Xing, where is this?”
Lu Xing He paused for a few seconds. His Adam’s apple bobbed. “I’m not sure.”
“This place is very pretty.” Duan Yu Luo picked up his economics book and put the postcard inside. “I’ll use it as a bookmark.”
Lu Xing He saw that Duan Yu Luo was using the postcard as a bookmark. The corner of his mouth curved up slightly. He nodded in approval. “Yeah, that’s a good way to use it.”
Duan Yu Luo didn’t say anything. He just lowered his eyes and chuckled.
During the self-study class, everyone was basically talking about the sports meet or the Model United Nations.
“Are you going to do a sampling survey? Won’t the data be inaccurate?”
“It might be inaccurate, but I think it can reflect to a certain extent the public’s awareness of genetic defects in secondary differentiation.”
The sunlight from the hallway streamed into the classroom, falling on the two people in the back row who were deep in discussion.
Duan Yu Luo pointed to the pie chart on his computer that he had made last night. “This is the lab data I got from my second and first uncle last time. My first uncle said that the lab’s secondary differentiation gene testing technology is already top-notch in the industry, and it has even been included in prenatal check-ups. However, everyone’s awareness of the importance of secondary differentiation gene testing is still very low. That means this project isn’t relatable enough to people’s lives, and it’s not convenient enough for them.”
The hand under the desk pressed against his stomach.
Why does my stomach hurt a little…?
“I think it’s a cost issue,” Lu Xing He said, using a pen to circle another part of the statistics on the tablet. As he lowered his eyes to write, he caught a glimpse of Duan Yu Luo’s hand pressing against his stomach. “The cost of secondary differentiation gene testing is very high. It’s not something that ordinary families can afford, especially during prenatal check-ups. The younger the fetus, the higher the cost of the test. Maybe it’s not that they don’t know about this issue, but that the cost is too high.”
“Is that so?” Duan Yu Luo propped his chin up, deep in thought.
“The supply and market demand for secondary differentiation gene testing are currently in a state where demand equals supply, and it has been in this state for a long time. In terms of price, this technology has already put it out of reach for a large portion of people who need it. The technology providers also only offer this test to those who need it, and this group of people are the ones who can afford it. To a certain extent, it excludes those who need it but can’t afford it.”
“Then what if the price could come down?”
“If the price could come down, all the problems would be solved. There wouldn’t be so many outrageously expensive medicines in this society. But the question is, can we do it?”
Duan Yu Luo thought about it and leaned back on his chair. Maybe because sitting this way was still uncomfortable for his abdomen, he frowned and looked at Lu Xing He.
“Does your stomach hurt?” Lu Xing He saw what was happening. He took the insulated cup from the table, stood up, and went to the back of the classroom to get some hot water. “I told you not to drink cold water, but you didn’t listen. Now your stomach hurts, doesn’t it?”
He said, handing the cup of warm water to Duan Yu Luo.
Duan Yu Luo took the cup and said “thank you.” He took a sip. His stomach quickly felt warm, but it didn’t alleviate the subtle discomfort.
“Does it still feel uncomfortable?” Lu Xing He took his insulated cup and frowned when he saw his subtle expression.
“I can’t describe it,” Duan Yu Luo said, pressing his lower abdomen. He might have pressed on a spot that suddenly hurt. He couldn’t help but gasp. He leaned back on the chair to relieve it. “It hurts, but I can tolerate it. It doesn’t hurt, but then it hurts again.”
“Do you want to go to the school clinic?”
“I want to lie down for a bit. I’ll be fine after a little while.” Duan Yu Luo felt uncomfortable sitting. His waist was sore, so he bent over and rested on the table.
Lu Xing He saw that Duan Yu Luo was resting on the table with his eyes closed. He went to his locker, took out his jacket, folded it, and then went behind Duan Yu Luo. He lifted his arm and put his jacket under his arm as a cushion.
Duan Yu Luo opened his eyes and looked up.
“My jacket will make it more comfortable for you,” Lu Xing He said, sitting back down next to Duan Yu Luo. He propped his head up with his arm and stared at him. “Take a nap. I’ll wake you up when the teacher comes.”
“Okay.” Duan Yu Luo closed his eyes.
He hugged Lu Xing He’s jacket and buried his face in it. Just then, a very unfamiliar scent wafted into his nose. It was a scent he had never smelled on Lu Xing He before.
It was a bit like sandalwood and a bit like the mellow aroma of wine. It wasn’t unpleasant. In fact, it made him…
…sleepy.
…
The long break started. The hallways were filled with students who had come out to move around. It was noisy.
Lu Xing He saw that Duan Yu Luo was still sleeping. He might have been sleeping so soundly that his cheeks and ears, which were resting on his arm, were flushed. There was a little sweat on his forehead. He wanted to wake him up, but he was afraid of startling him. So he reached out and pinched the back of his neck, calling him softly.
“Little one?”
As his hand held the back of Duan Yu Luo’s neck, a faint scent of…roses wafted into his nose. It was like roses soaked in red wine, a rich scent from being crushed. Ripples appeared in his eyes, as if he had guessed something.
This was…
…the scent of a pheromone.
“Lu Xing He, second brother, are you guys going to—”
The back door of the classroom opened, and Jiang Nianqiao walked in. She had originally wanted to call the two of them to play ball during the break, but as soon as she walked in, she saw Lu Xing He touching her second brother’s neck.
She looked at him and walked behind Lu Xing He. She slapped him on the back. “What are you doing? What are you doing?”
Lu Xing He was caught off guard and was slapped hard. He turned around and saw that it was Jiang Nianqiao. His forehead twitched. “I was about to ask you what you’re doing. You’re an Alpha, that hurts.”
“Why were you touching my second brother’s neck?”
“I wasn’t touching him. I was just trying to wake him up.”
Duan Yu Luo felt drowsy and his stomach and the back of his neck hurt. He vaguely heard a noisy sound. He frowned, opened his eyes, and sat up, holding the jacket and shaking his head.
He was still tired and dazed from being uncomfortable and just waking up. His cheeks were flushed. He lazily leaned against the back of his chair. He was holding the jacket and wasn’t saying anything, looking extremely well-behaved.
Lu Xing He saw Duan Yu Luo sit up and immediately stopped fighting with Jiang Nianqiao. He leaned closer to him. “Did we wake you up? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?”
“Xing Xing, I feel a little uncomfortable.”
Duan Yu Luo hugged Lu Xing He’s jacket, looked up at him, and spoke softly.
Lu Xing He’s heart softened at his well-behaved and uncomfortable look. He used the back of his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
He checked his forehead with his hand. He didn’t have a fever.
Duan Yu Luo’s eyebrows were furrowed. He couldn’t describe the pain in his stomach and the back of his neck. He put his hand on the back of his neck. His skin was so sensitive that it hurt when he touched it like that. He couldn’t help but frown.
Lu Xing He’s eyes fell on his movement. His eyes darkened. “Do you want to go to the school clinic?”
Duan Yu Luo said “no, I’m fine.” He saw that Jiang Nianqiao was here. “Qiao Qiao, why are you here?”
“I wanted to find you and Lu Xing He to play ball during the break, but I guess you can’t now, can you?” Jiang Nianqiao walked up to Duan Yu Luo. She saw that he looked tired and sleepy. “Are you getting a cold?”
“I’m just a little tired right now. I really want to sleep.” Duan Yu Luo lazily rested his head on the desk again, hugged the jacket in his arms, and closed his eyes. “I should feel better after another short nap. No need to go to the clinic.”
Lu Xing He was half-convinced. “Are you sure you’re not uncomfortable anywhere? Didn’t you say your stomach hurt just now? Does it not hurt anymore?”
Duan Yu Luo was too sleepy to talk. Although he didn’t know why he was suddenly so tired and sleepy, he mumbled, “…Yeah, it doesn’t hurt anymore.”
Lu Xing He couldn’t do anything about him, so he could only stay by his side.
Jiang Nianqiao shrugged and could only go find Duan Yifan to play ball.
…
The last class in the morning was Calculus.
The math teacher was explaining the homework from yesterday on the whiteboard. The students below were all busy solving the problems on their papers. The young man in the back row with his head propped up was dozing off, with his eyes closed, fishing for sleep. He was completely unaware that the person next to him was staring at him.
Under the table, a large hand was pressing on Duan Yu Luo’s thigh, just in case he fell over while dozing off.
The sunlight around noon was bright. It fell on the hallway and streamed into the classroom.
It fell on the handsome and clean face of the young man who was propping up his cheek and dozing off. His face looked as if it was coated in a layer of golden glitter. Even the fine hairs on his face were touched by the light, and even the suspicious wetness on the corner of his lips was clearly visible.
His head was bobbing, as if he was fishing for sleep, but he was doing it cautiously.
Lu Xing He’s lips curved up when he saw this. His eyes never left him. He was completely captivated.
He was completely unaware that his elbow, which was propped up on the table, was slowly sliding toward the edge.
At that moment, his elbow slid off the corner of the table, and he lost his support. Due to inertia, the young man who was sleeping soundly tilted and was about to fall.
At the same moment, a hand grabbed his arm.
Duan Yu Luo was startled awake as he was pulled back by his arm.
He opened his sleepy eyes. He was dazed and confused. He looked up. The teacher was still teaching in front, and the students were still listening to the lesson. He had no idea what had happened, and he had a feeling of “why am I here?”
He then turned his head blankly, and his eyes met Lu Xing He’s helpless gaze.
“I can’t believe you,” Lu Xing He said, still holding his wrist. He saw that the teacher had just turned around. He reached out with his other hand and wiped the wetness from Duan Yu Luo’s lips. “You can fall asleep like that. You almost fell, you know? And you’re drooling.”
Duan Yu Luo quickly pressed his hand down and wiped his mouth himself. At the same time, he gave him a look, as if to say, “You dare to laugh at me?”
Lu Xing He was amused by his sad and unhappy look. He turned his face away, unable to stop the smile from appearing on his lips. Then he felt a hard punch on his thigh. He laughed and held his hand.
“Don’t laugh,” Duan Yu Luo said, lowering his voice and glaring at him. “I wasn’t drooling.”
His tone was harsh but had no power.
Lu Xing He turned his head and met Duan Yu Luo’s somewhat embarrassed and annoyed look. He was still trying to argue with him seriously. His harsh words had no effect at all. The smile in his eyes grew even deeper. He nodded seriously. “Yes, you weren’t.”
Duan Yu Luo pouted. He held his pen and tried to focus on the lesson and take notes.
But in less than five minutes, his eyes started to close slowly again. His head bobbed up and down. He couldn’t resist the wave of sleepiness, and his head fell toward the desk. Just as his forehead was about to hit the table, a hand quickly reached out from the side and protected his forehead.
His head slowly rested in the palm of the hand.
This prevented him from hitting his forehead.
Maybe the hand was comfortable to rest on. Duan Yu Luo subconsciously wrapped his hand around it, resting his cheek in the palm. His eyelashes fluttered, and he was asleep in a second.
Lu Xing He held Duan Yu Luo’s head in his hand. He looked at him from the side. He saw that he was asleep again and frowned slightly. He didn’t think this guy looked cute when he was sleeping. He was a little worried.
What’s wrong? Why is he so sleepy lately?
