They Are Archenemies, But They Have A Child - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: The Favor of Mutual Killing
Upon entering Yun Qingwu’s Sea of Consciousness, Leng Licí found himself on a high plateau. The plateau was covered in white snow, and every gust of wind that touched his body carried a chill.
In contrast, a sun hung in the sky, shining brightly.
This jarring sun intensified its light the moment Leng Licí entered, as if greeting a familiar acquaintance warmly.
Leng Licí glanced at it indifferently before looking away. This was the divine bond (Shen Yuan) that should have been in his Sea of Consciousness but was forcefully stripped away.
It was also because of this that for a long time, no one, including himself (other than those privy to the secret), realized that his other half’s bloodline was anything more than ordinary mortal lineage.
Leng Licí scoffed, following his intuition and walking towards the highest point.
He had no interest in the so-called bloodline of the Heavenly Emperor lineage.
Before long, a white-furred beast that almost merged with the snow came into his sight.
The white-furred beast was nestled in the white snow at the highest point, its head resting on its tail, its eyes tightly closed, deeply asleep.
Leng Licí walked up, his face cold, and pushed the white-furred beast’s head with his palm. The beast’s head only tilted slightly, showing no sign of waking up.
Leng Licí frowned, knowing this was likely the cause of Yun Qingwu’s amnesia.
He refused to believe it. With a bang, he unleashed his tails. The tails climbed up the golden horns one after another, tightly enveloping them, and then pulled down simultaneously with all their strength.
Under the force of gravity, the white-furred beast’s head sank, and it flipped over on the spot, but its eyes still showed no intention of opening.
Yun Qingwu felt his body being scorched by an unknown high temperature. The scent of a great fire burning lingered around his nostrils.
This smell… it’s a little familiar…
He struggled to open his eyes, wanting to see his surroundings clearly. What entered his sight, however, was a head of flame-like red hair. A few strands flowed between his fingers, seeming to be the source of the scalding heat.
His other hand moved, instinctively tightening his grip.
The breathing beside his ear suddenly quickened.
!
There is a person in his arms!
This realization made Yun Qingwu’s heart pound rapidly.
With a force that felt like it would burst from his chest at any moment.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Who is it?
He turned his head, wanting to clearly see the profile obscured by the red hair, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t. He only saw the gleaming half of the twin-lotus flower behind the person’s left ear.
Who is it?
The sleeping person on the bed was breathing faster and faster, his eyelashes trembling.
In the Sea of Consciousness, the previously peaceful world began to shake. Leng Licí unwillingly glanced at the white-furred beast, still sleeping sprawled out, and exited the Sea of Consciousness.
As soon as he looked up, he was met with a pair of wide, startled eyes.
“You…”
Leng Licí looked down following the gaze and examined his body, his eyes brightening.
He had returned to his human form!
But before the joy could reach his expression, the body in his sight transformed into his fox form with a whoosh.
“…”
Yun Qingwu slowly blinked, then subconsciously rubbed his eyes: “Was that a dream just now?”
He lowered his hand and stared blankly at the red fox in his arms.
After looking, he suddenly reached out and turned the fox’s head, lowering his gaze to the back of the red fox’s left ear.
“It’s you?!”
Yun Qingwu looked incredulously at the half of the twin-lotus flower that was exactly the same as the one in his dream.
Leng Licí impatiently shook his head, trying to shake off the troublesome dirty thing on his head.
The dirty thing himself didn’t mind, speaking excitedly to himself: “Little Flame, I think I just dreamed about you. The you in my dream had long red hair, exactly the same color as your fur! And the half-lotus behind his ear is just like yours, and I have one on my collarbone too!”
As he spoke, he pulled open his collar, trying to prove that his words were true.
Leng Licí scoffed internally and looked away.
“It seems we have a deep bond. Could it be, as written in the storybooks, that you came to repay a kindness to me?” Yun Qingwu raised an eyebrow, then looked at the red fox before him with some difficulty: “But the gender doesn’t seem quite right…”
Leng Licí’s fox eyes narrowed. After a long moment, he turned his body, and his eight tails delivered a massive slap, then he jumped off the bed with his head held high.
Repay a kindness…
Is it the favor of mutual killing?
Yun Qingwu smiled, rubbing his reddened face, and teased: “Little Flame, you’re quite a temperamental fox, aren’t you?”
Leng Licí didn’t want to deal with this person whose mind was clearly broken. He walked towards the door without looking back. Just as he was about to step out, he retreated.
Hoping to awaken the soul consciousness could take an unknown number of years, and he certainly didn’t want to stay here forever.
Yun Qingwu looked at the red fox slowly walking back, the smile in his eyes deepening: “What’s wrong? Still want to sleep with me?”
Leng Licí looked at the round table nearby, leaped onto it, and looked down at Yun Qingwu leaning against the bed, opening his mouth: “Bai Ze, how long do you plan to play this role-playing game?”
The smile on Yun Qingwu’s face gradually turned to shock: “Little Flame? You can talk?!”
Leng Licí ignored Yun Qingwu’s reaction and explained the sequence of events in the simplest words possible.
“I’m Bai Ze? This is just an illusion? Little Flame, you’ve got to be joking.” Yun Qingwu completely disregarded the content of Leng Licí’s words, staring at him with curiosity: “Speaking of which, are you a god like A-Ze? And who is more powerful, you or A-Ze?”
Leng Licí looked at Yun Qingwu with cold eyes: “What do you think?”
“It’s definitely our A-Ze who is more powerful. He’s a pure lineage! Your fur color isn’t pure. A-Ze is the guardian god of our Southern Ze clan. Without him, we wouldn’t have the peaceful Southern Ze Kingdom we have today.” Yun Qingwu shook his index finger with a proud expression.
Leng Licí scoffed, kicking a claw towards Yun Qingwu’s head.
Yun Qingwu cried out in protest but ignored the pain and instantly grabbed the fox’s tail, smiling even more happily: “A gentleman uses his mouth, not his hands! You need to fix this bad habit!”
Leng Licí struggled to free his tail, wanting to escape the demonic clutches. However, Yun Qingwu seized the opportunity to hug his body, rolling onto the bed. Amidst the spinning, those mischievous hands kept kneading him relentlessly.
“Little Flame, isn’t this fun, hahaha—”
Fun, my ass!
Leng Licí clenched his back teeth, aiming for the nearby chin and biting down.
Just as Yun Qingwu lowered his head slightly, the bite landed on his lower lip corner. A streak of red oozed from the wound, making his already reddish lips even more vivid.
Yun Qingwu froze. For some reason, the fox before him seemed to transform into the red-haired beauty from his dream again. He subconsciously touched the corner of his lip, his ears turning red, and his heart skipped a beat.
Leng Licí took advantage of Yun Qingwu’s momentary confusion, broke free from the restraint, and left the room without looking back.
Yun Qingwu shook his head, waving away the inexplicable thoughts.
What was he thinking? Little Flame is just a fox!
After leaving the room, the morning light was beginning to show outside. Leng Licí returned to his room and lay down on the bed, closing his eyes to try and change into his human form.
Although the time was short, he distinctly saw his human form earlier.
But now, no matter how hard he tried, it had no effect.
“Why are you in such a hurry to change back into human form? I prefer my beast form; it’s much more intimidating!” The Taotie’s spirit in the bone sword said with some schadenfreude.
Leng Licí used his tail to pick up a wooden pillow nearby and slammed it against the wall.
A loud bang revealed the intensity of his current inner irritation.
The bone sword screamed: “I knew you were vindictive!”
On the other side, Yun Qingwu was walking to the Cloud Dwelling Hall to meet Huanyu for a report, but halfway there, he felt a sudden, inexplicable feeling of internal congestion. He paused for a moment in confusion, then changed his route and walked towards Leng Licí’s room.
Little Flame was a little angry this morning. Maybe I should bring Little Flame along to see Huanyu.
He nodded to himself and pushed the room door open.
As soon as he entered, he saw the wooden pillow lying on the floor. Then he looked at the fox on the bed, whose golden eyes were staring back at him intently.
Looks like he’s still upset.
Yun Qingwu took a few steps forward and picked up the fox: “Let’s go, I’ll take you out to play. Don’t be angry.”
“Put me down.” Leng Licí’s tone still carried residual anger.
“No. Why would a god walk himself, right?” Yun Qingwu said with a chuckle, then rubbed the furry fox neck again.
Hmph.
“Whatever you want.”
Leng Licí used his tail to swipe away the mischievous hand on his neck. He simply found a more comfortable position and accepted the unsolicited service.
In the Cloud Dwelling Hall, Qŭ Huanyu had been waiting for a long time. Seeing Yun Qingwu walk in, she rose and stepped forward to greet him. Before she could speak, her attention was drawn to the injury on Yun Qingwu’s lip corner.
“Why do you have a wound on your mouth?”
Yun Qingwu touched the area, which had already scabbed over, indifferently: “Oh, I was accidentally scratched.”
Qŭ Huanyu glanced at Leng Licí, warning him: “You shouldn’t indulge it too much.”
Leng Licí, who had been closing his eyes, slightly raised his eyelids at the remark, glanced at Qŭ Huanyu, and then closed his eyes again. However, his entirely black tail intentionally or unintentionally patted Yun Qingwu’s chin, as if to show dominance.
He can scratch whenever he wants.
Yun Qingwu laughed, tickled by the contact, and grabbed the black tail.
“Stop messing around.”
After suppressing the fox, Yun Qingwu held him closer and offered him to Qŭ Huanyu like a treasure: “Huanyu, do you want to hold Little Flame?”
Leng Licí’s ears twitched. His sharp claws were poised, ready for action.
Does he really think I’m a pet?
“No, it’s a bit ugly.” Qŭ Huanyu took a step back.
Leng Licí suddenly turned to glare at Qŭ Huanyu, momentarily forgetting to jump off. The next second, Yun Qingwu lifted him up.
“Ugly? It’s not ugly. Our Little Flame is so beautiful—red for joy, black for handsomeness.”
“Fine, I’ll just touch it.”
Get lost!
Leng Licí extended his claw and swiped towards Yun Qingwu’s neck. Yun Qingwu seemed to have anticipated it and dodged backwards, avoiding another crisis of disfigurement.
Missing the scratch, Leng Licí didn’t linger in the fight, seizing the opportunity to jump off the ground and walk away without looking back.
Yun Qingwu looked at Qŭ Huanyu helplessly, spreading his hands: “It seems Little Flame only likes me.”
Qŭ Huanyu was expressionless: “Oh.”
In the afternoon, after Yun Qingwu finished dealing with state affairs, mealtime had passed. He stopped by the west room again and saw the fox listlessly curled up on the bed. The fresh chicken and pork prepared on the floor hadn’t been touched.
He thought Leng Licí was still angry about Huanyu’s words, and coaxed: “Huanyu’s taste is poor. Don’t take it seriously.”
Leng Licí gave Yun Qingwu a faint glance, too lazy to speak.
“Why didn’t you eat lunch? Do you gods not need to eat? But A-Ze loves to eat.”
“Tasteless.” Leng Licí finally spoke, throwing out two words.
Yun Qingwu stepped forward, pretending to try and hug him again: “What do you like to eat? I’ll cook for you!”
Leng Licí flicked his tail, dodging Yun Qingwu’s clutches, and got off the bed, looking at Yun Qingwu suspiciously.
After losing his memory, why is this person so keen on touching people?
Unable to hold the fox, Yun Qingwu sighed, feigning helplessness: “Fine, fine. Then follow me to the small kitchen. I’ll make you a special meal.”
Leng Licí had no interest in his special meal, but the prospect of the Heavenly Realm’s Primal Lord cooking for him—that entertainment held some interest.
