Chapter 25: Permanent Mark
Soft lips brushed past, carrying a moist, lingering, and ambiguous breath. Xie Jinbing propped one forearm beside Teng Xi’s ear, while her other hand hooked playfully around Teng Xi’s stiff waist. Her vocal cords hadn’t fully recovered yet, and the sentence she uttered was hoarse: “Why…”
The suppressed Alpha, Teng Xi, had a brain that was currently a total blank; the only three words echoing in her ears were “my girlfriend.”
Girlfriend? When did she get a girlfriend? And it’s Sister Xie?!
Seeing that Teng Xi didn’t respond, Xie Jinbing felt a surge of extreme grievance. Her left hand slid along Teng Xi’s shoulder to hook around her neck, while her right hand took Teng Xi’s hand—which was hanging limp at her side—and proactively placed it on her own slender waist. Her body softened into Teng Xi’s arms like a pool of spring water, utterly enchanting.
“Does Xi Xi not like me?”
“I do!”
The words blurted out successfully pleased Xie Jinbing. As if giving a reward, she kissed the tip of Teng Xi’s nose. The increasingly thick scent of sweet orange darted around the room, enticing both of them into a state of semi-consciousness.
Yet Teng Xi still made no further move. Even though her mouth said she liked her, her stiff body remained standing straight as a board; even the hand resting on Xie Jinbing’s waist was just mechanically following the lead.
Deep in the throes of desire, Xie Jinbing suddenly felt bored. Her eyes dimmed, making the swirling black mist in her pupils appear even deeper. She dropped her hands in failure, pulled her sensitive body away from the other woman, and the moment she turned around, tears began to fall pitter-patter to the floor.
The sudden departure of the person against her finally brought Teng Xi back to her senses. With a panicked expression and a fearful heart, she reached out: “No, Sister Xie.”
Before Teng Xi even realized it, she had already yanked Xie Jinbing back. Their positions swapped in an instant; she leaned down and pinned Xie Jinbing against the door, not forgetting to thoughtfully protect her head, waist, and back with her hands.
The whirring of the fresh air system amplified infinitely in her ears, pointlessly disturbing her state of mind.
The person before her was crying beautifully, like pear blossoms in the rain. That usual 1.8-meter-tall aura had vanished completely, and the corners of her eyes were stained with a grieved red. Anyone who saw her would feel their heart ache.
Teng Xi used her thumb to gently wipe away the teardrops on her cheek, but the tears were like a kite with a broken string—no matter how she wiped, she couldn’t clear them.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” She repeated these three words over and over, not knowing if she was apologizing for forgetting her or for failing to respond in time. She only knew that the moment she saw those tears, everything else vanished; she only wanted to pull her into her arms and coax her softly.
She lowered her head, resting her forehead against Xie Jinbing’s and touching their noses together. Feeling the scorching temperature of her skin and the gushing, moist heat of her breath, she nuzzled her, messing up a patch of hair on the other’s forehead and feeling the itch of curled eyelashes sweeping across her cheek.
With this movement, the originally fresh sweet orange pheromones gradually turned syrupy and thick, like a jar of orange marmalade, trapping both of them in an inescapable depth.
“I’m sorry, I really don’t remember…” Seeing that Xie Jinbing’s tears wouldn’t stop, Teng Xi’s throat began to choke up as well. Her heart was being gripped tightly. She tilted her head and kissed her; it tasted salty.
Her kisses trailed all the way down to her chin, forcing her to tilt her head back and reveal her beautiful swan-like neck. Feeling the trembling body in her arms, she moved around the side of the neck toward that nape that was continuously emitting the lure.
“Sister, may I?” Her wet tongue licked the protrusion. Teng Xi felt that she could occasionally abandon her Alpha gentlemanliness. “Actually, even if you say no, it’s too late.”
The moment her canines pierced the gland, both of them shuddered violently. The direct fusion of pheromones caused a momentary blank in their minds. A soft whimper escaped Xie Jinbing’s lips; her body went weak, and she had to reach out both hands to cling to Teng Xi’s neck.
Teng Xi’s knee pressed forward, forcing her legs apart. One hand powerfully encircled her waist to keep her from slipping, while the other brushed past her like a lit candle.
“Nnh… dirty…” The temporarily soothed Omega reached out her hands and gave her a soft, weak push. That tiny bit of strength was no different from an intimate caress.
Teng Xi looked at the person in her arms and let out a light laugh. Feeling the rare daintiness she displayed, Teng Xi felt a mischievous urge to tease her: “Where does Sister think is dirty? Is it here, or here?”
Her fingertips were like clusters of flame, touching points on her body and causing her to tremble uncontrollably. Her soft, slender hands clung even tighter, and the eyes she turned toward Teng Xi were brimming with tears.
A pool of sweet, syrupy desire rippled within her, overflowing with every one of Teng Xi’s movements. Even though they had done this many times before, a strong sense of shame still made Xie Jinbing sob and whimper softly.
Seeing that the person in her arms was about to start dropping “pearls” again, Teng Xi stopped teasing. Maintaining their embrace, she placed a hand under the hollow of her knees and lifted her up. The sudden weightlessness of leaving the ground made the person in her arms hook her legs around Teng Xi’s waist. With a flushed face, she obediently buried her head in Teng Xi’s neck and shoulder, allowing her to carry her toward the shower and disinfection room in the back.
A deepening scent of sandalwood and vanilla slowly drifted out from the shower room, diluting that thick, stringy sweet orange smell.
Steam billowed, and crystalline mist gradually covered the glass door. Occasionally, a grey-skinned palm would break through the water droplets on the door, leaving a complete handprint, only to be hidden back into the mist following a gasp, quickly vanishing from sight.
The smell of hormones surged in the air, washing over the intertwined pheromones, causing a gradual loss of reason.
Intermittent words drifted from the shower room into the laboratory, echoing in the sealed room before being quickly drowned out by the disorganized sound of water, leaving only a sliver of fragmented tenderness.
“Sister, the way you look when you cry makes me want to bully you more than ever~”
Usually, an Omega’s first wave of heat only lasts six hours. Teng Xi didn’t actually make Xie Jinbing stay in the shower for the full six hours.
Earlier, to stall for time, she had moved almost everything usable from the outer ring to the inner ring, including a sofa and a single bed. If she had known her Sister’s taste was so wonderful, she would have slammed the door shut without hesitation—who would care about a sofa then?
The two spent the following hours on the bed, leaving Xie Jinbing’s throat—which had just managed a few broken sentences—hoarse once more.
As the heat gradually receded, by the end, neither of them could tell whether logic held the lead or if their bodies were being driven by desire.
Teng Xi had always considered herself a potential egoist, but sometimes even she didn’t understand why she cared about certain people to such an extreme that she could break her own steadfast rules.
“Sister, what did I do to make you unhappy?” Teng Xi pouted pitifully.
One second they were hugging intimately, and the next, Teng Xi was kicked off the bed by Xie Jinbing without hesitation. If she hadn’t reacted quickly, she feared this would have been her last experience of romance.
“Sister, is it that my hand isn’t slender enough, or did the calluses hurt you? Or perhaps my technique didn’t satisfy you?” Teng Xi rubbed her slightly sore wrist; her fingertips were already white. She took a step forward but was frozen in place by the other’s gaze.
“Sister…” She looked as aggrieved as could be; one wouldn’t know she wasn’t the Alpha who had been loved and abandoned.
However, Teng Xi couldn’t figure it out. In her remaining knowledge base, a marked Omega should be very clingy to their Alpha. Even if they were to “put on their pants and act like strangers,” that should happen after the heat had completely passed.
“Why?” Xie Jinbing’s voice was incredibly hoarse, but she insisted on speaking.
“I’m sorry, I really have amnesia. The amnesia is real, and liking you is also real. I…”
“The mark. Why?” Teng Xi’s feigned ignorance was interrupted by Xie Jinbing before she could finish.
Xie Jinbing didn’t expect a melodramatic story where Teng Xi, despite forgetting the whole world, wouldn’t forget her. Even if Teng Xi had forgotten her, she had the confidence to make Teng Xi fall in love with her again; she knew every one of Teng Xi’s “buttons.”
Instead, she wanted to ask why she wouldn’t perform a permanent mark. It hadn’t happened when they were passionately in love before, and it didn’t happen this time while helping her through an abnormal heat.
Teng Xi acted as if she didn’t know what she was talking about. She snatched a blanket that had fallen to the floor and draped it over herself, covering her elegant body and the bite marks on her shoulder. She spoke with extreme ambiguity: “Is Sister still not satisfied? Or have you not had enough of my delicious pheromones?”
As one of the very few S-grade Alphas, her pheromones were extremely domineering. For those of the same sex, pheromones of this grade would make other Alphas instinctively submit. For the opposite sex (Omegas), pheromones of this grade were overbearing; an excess could even lead to the death of a partner. Thus, she habitually suppressed her own pheromones, but she found that when she fused them with Xie Jinbing’s just now, she didn’t have to worry about hurting her at all.
Teng Xi’s response was a pillow thrown by Xie Jinbing. If it had been anything harder, that force would have drawn blood.
“Sister, you’re murdering your own ‘wife’ QAQ.” Teng Xi didn’t reach out to block it, instead staggering back two steps as if wounded.
Xie Jinbing had already pulled the thin quilt over her head, assuming a posture of completely ignoring her.
She curled herself into a ball, a bit of her red hair poking out from under the quilt. From Teng Xi’s perspective, the small mound of the quilt was trembling slightly. With her sharp hearing, she heard faint sobbing.
Tucked inside the quilt, Xie Jinbing was tightly clutching a T-shirt. It was the one Teng Xi had taken off, still carrying the woody fragrance that she was addicted to. This time, she was truly aggrieved. No matter how she moved, Teng Xi was simply unwilling to mark her completely. She would only use continuous temporary marks and skillful physical movements to alleviate the surging pheromones and overflowing desire in her body—but there was no permanent mark.
Both of them clearly knew that as long as a permanent mark involving a “knot” was performed, this heat would be much easier for both of them to endure. But Teng Xi didn’t do it.
Teng Xi stood barefoot on the cold tiles, her lips pressed tight. She wanted to step forward and offer words of comfort, but the foot she moved forward half a step retracted again. She couldn’t give Xie Jinbing a promise.
The compatibility of their bodies made Teng Xi believe the fact that they were a couple, but performing a permanent mark meant giving her a promise of never-ending loyalty. She didn’t smell a mark on Xie Jinbing; whether it was because she had been unwilling in the past or Xie Jinbing had surgically removed one, there were surely reasons for all of it.
She liked Xie Jinbing. She liked her so much that seeing her curled up hiding in the quilt made her heart ache with a stabbing pain. Yet she still didn’t dare to perform a permanent mark. For the first time, she felt afraid—afraid that she would regret it.
Teng Xi sighed silently and walked toward the food piled in the corner. What she urgently needed to do now was prepare food to replenish the fluids Xie Jinbing had lost over a long period, in order to face the next wave of the heat.
