The Zerg Monarch’s Path to Godhood - Chapter 9.1
No male would have such a good nature as to rejoice in the safety of a criminal, let alone a male who was a complete stranger to him. Gu Nan suspected he was either looking for something else or, more simply, was here to take his life.
Gu Nan suppressed the emotions in his eyes, squinting as he looked up at the male. The male was half-crouching and slightly taller than him. From this angle, he could see the male’s Adam’s apple moving. With just one strike, this guy could be finished. Gu Nan’s fingers curled into his palm.
Wen Qi gently hugged Gu Nan. His body trembled, and he said nothing, yet it felt as if he had said everything. After his emotions settled slightly, he released Gu Nan. He stood by the cage, looking at the person before him.
The person before him had eyes that were dark and shrinking, much like a large cat that had been severely traumatized and was unwilling to get close to anyone, full of fear of the unknown. Looking at Gu Nan in this state, Wen Qi’s eyes grew redder. His fist under his sleeve clenched tightly, nails digging into his flesh, but he did not even notice the pain.
Perhaps fearing he would lose his composure again, Wen Qi quickly turned around with a stiff expression and ran out of the room. He tripped slightly as he left but quickly steadied himself. He ran to his room, grabbed some medicine, and brought it back to Gu Nan.
In less than a minute, he gathered his out-of-control emotions and spoke in a gentle voice, “Can you still move? Should I call a female over to help you?”
Gu Nan shook his head after two seconds of silence. From Wen Qi’s perspective, the female remained silent and withdrawn. Thinking of the trauma the female had suffered, he frowned, and an expression of anxiety appeared on his face.
“Your injuries are very serious,” he spoke. Upon closer listening, his tone was even softer than before. “Are you really okay?”
After a pause, Wen Qi explained, “It is not that I do not trust you, but at that time, your body…”
Wen Qi remembered that bright red color. It was vivid and fresh, falling from Gu Nan’s hem onto the ground. He looked at Gu Nan. The female in front of him was not bleeding now, but he still remembered just moments ago how the blood had gushed, the bright red color staining the ground, appearing extremely eye-piercing.
Gu Nan looked down and said in a low voice, “No need.”
Hearing this low voice, which was different from the firm, steady voice he had heard on the Star Network a few days ago, Wen Qi turned his head slightly. The emotions in his heart were very complex.
“I know your recovery ability is strong,” he said to himself, his voice thick and sounding slightly nasal. “But it will still hurt. These medicines are quite effective. Since you do not want to find someone to help you, why not apply the medicine yourself? I will not harm you. If you feel uncomfortable, tell me. If you need anything, tell me as well. As long as I can do it, as long as you need it, I will do my best to find it for you.”
At this point, Wen Qi’s eyes could not help but redden a bit more. He thought that his protagonist should have a life that he envied, rather than falling into the dust like this, becoming even worse off than himself.
The house Wen Qi rented was a two-bedroom apartment. This was a preparation he had specifically made for Gu Nan’s arrival, since males and females are different.
“Wait for me a moment.” Wen Qi wiped the corners of his eyes, ran to his room, and brought the female nutrient solution to Gu Nan. He also took a few better-looking clothes and piled them onto the bed in Gu Nan’s room.
Looking at the person on the ground who was too cautious to move, Wen Qi’s voice became increasingly gentle. “Drink some nutrient solution first to regain some strength. You should also apply medicine to your wounds. These medicines are all newly bought and have not been opened yet. I will wait for you outside. Tell me when you are ready. Do not push yourself. I am outside.”
After sobbing through these instructions, Wen Qi ran out.
Gu Nan watched the male leave, whose back looked a bit like a flustered and disheveled escapee. The coldness in his eyes softened slightly. His gaze swept over the various things placed nearby, and a trace of something unusual flashed in his eyes. He tapped his finger on the ground, his gaze lingering on the medicines. After looking at them all, an expression of surprise appeared on his face. These things were not cheap. They could not be bought for less than a hundred thousand Star Credits.
Gu Nan originally thought it was impressive enough for this male to produce the credits to buy him. He did not expect the male to be even more capable than he had thought. He had underestimated this male. But where did this male come from?
Gu Nan unconsciously relaxed his body, frowning in thought, while also looking at the tightly closed door. There was not a single gap in the door. The male was not peeking.
Could he have been sent by those males? Gu Nan changed his posture to think. Ordinary males did not have that many Star Credits to buy him, nor did they have the courage to come to such a place alone. He must have accomplices. But this male’s series of actions did not quite seem like the males from that side. After all, males do not have much acting talent, and there was no need for a B-rank to put on a show in front of someone like him, who was C-rank.
Recalling the group of males who had placed bets on him, a flash of disgust quickly crossed Gu Nan’s eyes. He touched the shock collar on his neck and unbuttoned his clothes. The bright red blood on his body had not dried yet, appearing extremely eye-piercing against his skin. He looked at it twice, took a towel to wipe himself randomly, and put the same clothes back on.
He casually pulled out a bottle of nutrient solution and drank it. The discomfort caused by not eating for several days disappeared. Gu Nan moved his body slightly. It was somewhat uncomfortable, but not enough to make him lose his mobility. He looked at the closed door and scanned the surroundings. After scanning, he felt around his wrist. As a thin piece of flesh-colored fake skin fell off, a visible needle was tightly pressed against his skin. Gu Nan pressed the needle into his skin, and after a while, the needle disappeared without a trace.
After doing this, Gu Nan’s face returned to its previous blank state. After adjusting his posture, he swung his hand and hit a nearby chair. The chair fell to the ground, making a sharp sound. Wen Qi, who had been worried about Gu Nan outside the door, changed his expression when he heard the sound. He knocked on the door, but there was no response. His expression grew even worse. He pursed his lips and paced around before knocking again. After waiting ten seconds, he pushed the door open.
With a creak, the door was pushed open. The first thing Wen Qi saw was the female sitting on the ground, his face completely pale. His heart skipped a beat.
“Master.”
The female lowered his head, and his raspy voice uttered two words. His tone had no ripple of emotion.
Master? Wen Qi’s footsteps paused, his eyes full of shock! Gu Nan was calling him Master. How could this be! He pursed his lips, staring at the female on the ground. His eyebrows twitched. He wanted to say something, but the words were stuck in his throat. After a long while, he managed to say, “Gu Nan.”
His expression changed repeatedly. Wen Qi’s gaze accidentally swept over the unopened ointments, and he sighed in frustration. He frowned, walked over, and crouched in front of Gu Nan. He opened a well-packaged bottle of hemostatic medicine, scooped out a large dollop, and held his hand out in front of Gu Nan. His nails scratched the unhealed wound on his palm. The wound broke open, and bright red blood scrambled to come out.
Seeing Wen Qi’s action, a ripple appeared in Gu Nan’s eyes. The ripple was very faint and disappeared in an instant. Wen Qi applied the ointment to his own hand in front of Gu Nan. The cool fragrance of the ointment wafted over. Wen Qi held out his hand toward Gu Nan.
“See? It is fine.” After saying that, he handed the wound medicine in his other hand to Gu Nan. “Apply some medicine first. Or I can apply it for you.”
Gu Nan saw the hand Wen Qi held out to him, and his gaze deepened. Watching Wen Qi hand over the medicine, he reached out to take it silently and applied the medicine to his injured arm. Wen Qi followed the same procedure, applying all the other medicines Gu Nan needed, and then walked out of Gu Nan’s room. Before leaving, he left a sentence, “Change your clothes.”
Inside the room, Gu Nan’s eyes deepened again. This time he did not hesitate and applied the medicines the male had just tested to his body. When the ointment touched the places that were bleeding, the pain was immediately reduced, and a cool sensation spread throughout his body. He stared at the medicine in his hand for a few seconds before putting it back.
Fifteen minutes later, Wen Qi knocked on Gu Nan’s door and still did not get a response. He waited for a minute before knocking again and pushed the door open. The female inside was still sitting on the ground. The room was filled with the scent of medicine. Having changed into decent clothes, the female appeared to be in a much better state.
After being cleaned up, the female looked much better than before. His emerald hair was a bit long and had not been cared for in a long while, appearing somewhat messy. In those bright emerald eyes, there was a layer of mist that covered the brilliance within. Although the bone wings on his back had been treated with medicine, the injuries were still severe.
Wen Qi walked to Gu Nan’s side.
“Master,” the raspy voice spoke again. Gu Nan lowered his head.
Looking at Gu Nan sitting on the ground with his head down, calling him Master, Wen Qi rubbed his temples and sighed softly. “Mr. Gu Nan, I am not your Master. My name is Lu Li. You can call me by my name.”
He explained and crouched down in front of Gu Nan, frowning as he looked at the shock collar on Gu Nan’s neck, reaching out to touch it. The icy sensation was like a poisonous snake traveling through his skin into his flesh. It was so cold that he shuddered and instinctively let go. Gu Nan’s body suddenly tensed.
Wen Qi frowned at his hand and gently touched the shock collar with his thumb, then with his index finger. The coldness from before had vanished, as if it had been an illusion.
“Is this thing cold?” Wen Qi asked Gu Nan. Gu Nan shook his head slightly.
Wen Qi did not think more and asked, “Can it be removed?” Gu Nan was silent for two seconds. He did not say anything and shook his head again.
Wen Qi frowned. “Then how can it be removed?”
“It cannot be removed,” Gu Nan spoke. His voice was very raspy, as if he had been injured. He was as dark as he was now. He explained, “To prevent the female slave from harming the master, the female slave can only wear the shock collar for life.”
At this point, Gu Nan took a breath and knelt on one knee toward Wen Qi without hesitation. Wen Qi was startled by this scene and instinctively reached out to support Gu Nan, but he was too late. With his hand halfway up, he could only watch as Gu Nan knelt before him.
Looking at Gu Nan kneeling in front of him, Wen Qi was so shocked that his expression froze. Numerous emotions surged in his heart, yet he could not put them into words. The emotions reached his throat, but he could not utter a single syllable. How could this be? All kinds of emotions were swirling in his heart. His protagonist, his always unrestrained protagonist, was now kneeling before him.
It was funny to say, but it was the truth. He had come to this world and arrived here, imagining every situation, but he never thought it would be like this. How could this be? How could this be allowed? That was his strong and powerful, bright and sharp protagonist, who had countless friends and was relied upon by many. How could he have become like this?
Wen Qi’s fingers pressed against his side were trembling. His eyes darkened, and his breathing became rapid. The shock on his face had not faded, but he immediately reached out to Gu Nan. “Get up.” He took two steps forward, reaching out to support Gu Nan. His tone carried a command, “Get up for me.”
Gu Nan did not get up. Instead, he lowered his head even further. His voice was even lower, carrying a hint of self-reproach. “Master, does Master not want the slave anymore?”
Looking at Gu Nan like this, the gloom in Wen Qi’s eyes gradually softened, and the shock on his face was restrained. He sighed softly, appearing to be comforting yet also making a promise, murmuring, “I will not leave you. Never.”
His hand tentatively rested on Gu Nan’s head. The female’s body stiffened for a moment but did not refuse his touch. Perhaps because the hair had not been cared for in a long time, it was very dry and dirty. It might not look like much, but the rough sensation was very obvious when touching it. The pity on Wen Qi’s face grew heavier. He looked at Gu Nan and said solemnly, “I will not leave you, Gu Nan. Do not worry.”
Wen Qi rubbed Gu Nan’s hair. His tone was gentle and comforting, but a killing intent rose in his heart.
“Gu Nan, listen to me, okay?” Wen Qi spoke softly. He crouched in front of his protagonist and cupped Gu Nan’s face with both hands. Their eyes met, and Gu Nan looked down. Wen Qi did not force it. He spoke, “We can just interact normally. Treat me as you would a friend. Do not be afraid. I am not your Master, and I will not bully you.”
Wen Qi deliberately softened his voice, his tone as gentle as if he were coaxing a cub. “Let us get up first, okay? You will be uncomfortable like this.”
Gu Nan did not persist this time and got up from the ground, looking at Wen Qi with those emerald eyes. His gaze was numb, with a hint of unease. “Slave…”
“Do not be like that.” Wen Qi gently interrupted Gu Nan’s words and patted Gu Nan’s head comfortingly. His voice was brief but firm. “You are free, Gu Nan. I will not restrict you, so you do not need to call yourself a slave.”
Wen Qi’s gaze swept over the wounds on Gu Nan’s body. His tone carried an undisguised heartache. “The most important thing for you right now is to recover. You need to take good care of yourself. You can tell me whatever you need. This is my only requirement for you, okay?”
Gu Nan was stunned. Such a person’s only requirement for him was to take good care of himself? Was it possible? Would he meet such a good male? Gu Nan sneered in his heart. What was he thinking? Just a few days ago, when he mentioned becoming the other’s female attendant, the male had a look of disgust, even if the emotion was not very obvious. In just a few days, the male’s attitude had turned 180 degrees. Was it possible?
But the heartache in the male’s eyes did not seem to be fake. So where did the problem lie?
Looking at the stunned Gu Nan, Wen Qi’s heart grew even more painful. What kind of life did his protagonist lead before? He had made his protagonist show this expression with just a few words. The more Wen Qi thought about it, the more he felt he had not done enough.
“It is okay. Do not worry. Recover well.”
Speaking of recovery, Wen Qi’s gaze swept over Gu Nan’s bone wings. He hesitated and asked, “Gu Nan, your bone wings…”
A female’s bone wings are part of the female and are also the female’s greatest weapon. Most of a female’s combat relies on those bone wings. Gu Nan’s bone wings were very beautiful. He had decided on them after referring to many pictures. They were similar to bat-like wings, with a thin membrane of flesh covering the skeleton. There was a layer of silver down feathers on the membrane, and at the tips of the bone wings, there were over ten long, iron-hard feathers.
These beautiful bone wings had killed countless enemy Zerg in his story. When in use, they only needed to be unfolded to become a powerful weapon on the battlefield. When not in use, they could be quickly retracted behind the back, not taking up much space.
Wen Qi had glanced at Gu Nan’s bone wings when he first came in, but he had deliberately avoided looking closely. At this moment, his gaze fell on the tips of the bone wings, and he could not help but frown. Those ten or so silver-white long feathers had disappeared, as if they had been pulled out alive by some Zerg. The layer of down feathers he liked had also been destroyed beyond recognition. Not only that, all kinds of wounds could be seen on Gu Nan’s bone wings. He had only seen those few large wounds. Now, in close contact, all the bleeding and non-bleeding wounds fell into his eyes.
Wen Qi’s eyes grew red again. That was a female’s most powerful weapon and also the female’s most fragile place! How did they dare! Wen Qi’s fingertips were trembling. This scene fell into Gu Nan’s eyes, but it made Gu Nan feel a sense of “as expected.” Indeed, any male would despise his bone wings, and even this male, who might have nothing to do with those males, was no exception.
For some reason, at this moment, Gu Nan remembered how this male had left without hesitation three days ago when he went to see him in his persona as the Commander. A hint of self-mockery flashed in his heart. What was he still looking forward to? He was not a clean Zerg anyway. He had countless blood on his hands. Landing in this situation was also a result of his own lack of skill.
He had already decided to leave after the auction. Whether he developed his own influence or did something else in the future, there were so many dark places in the Zerg race that there would always be a place for him. Even if it was not glamorous, even if it violated his childhood dream, at least he could protect himself and his followers. He still wanted to see if there was a chance.
The male’s fingers were trembling. Did he want to destroy these bone wings? A male should have such a nature. Why did he expect this male to be different from others? At this point, a killing intent gradually appeared in Gu Nan’s eyes. Wen Qi’s fingers trembled as he slowly reached toward Gu Nan’s bone wings. Seeing the hand reaching over, the coldness in Gu Nan’s eyes grew even more intense.
Perhaps having made a decision, the shackles in his heart broke, revealing the darkness within. Gu Nan thought that he just wanted a position as a female attendant. He had been fighting for so many years, and now he was deserted by his followers. His attempt to find a place to stay that would temporarily provide some dignity had been met with failure. It was simply a disaster. If it were not for these males back then, would he have landed in this situation?
Now he just wanted a male to save his life. Even with the status of a female attendant, he could use the Imperial laws to ask a male to help him soothe his mental sea. But such a simple hope was personally rejected by the male. He still remembered the disgust that accidentally flowed from this male’s eyes when he heard those words a few days ago.
Looking at the hand reaching over, Gu Nan only felt irony. Why did he think this male was quite good before, even just moments ago? He was clearly no different from other Zerg. What had he been working so hard for all these years? To give males a chance to harm him?
How wonderful it would be if there were no males in this world! Why should they be subject to males? Clearly, they could make the Zerg race the overlord of the galaxy on their own.
Why should there be such creatures as males to suppress them?
