The Zerg Monarch’s Path to Godhood - Chapter 11
The two Zerg returned to the rental apartment.
According to the medical report, Gu Nan’s physical health was not in serious danger, but the possibility of repairing the bone wings on his back was only 10%. Even with a chance of recovery, in the eyes of the Zerg, Gu Nan was already a semi-crippled shell of a warrior. Given his high rank, repairing those wings would inevitably require an immense amount of star coins.
Back at the apartment, Wen Qi looked at the pitiful Gu Nan as heartache surged within him. His gaze lingered on the damaged wings for a moment before he urged Gu Nan to rest and returned to his room to start a livestream.
Wen Qi’s broadcasts were always casual. He set up his terminal and washed the black stain from his hands, revealing fair and slender fingers. Since his first stream, he had avoided showing his face to protect his identity and to prevent suspicion. He only displayed his elegant, clean hands without any disguise. Those hands were a stark contrast to his blackened refugee persona. Zerg tended to view beautiful things through a favorable lens, making it even harder for them to connect the two identities.
As the stream began, viewers trickled in. Wen Qi waited a few moments until the count reached 100,000.
“Apologies. For certain reasons, I am streaming again today. What stories would you like to hear?” he asked. His tone was cool, yet it possessed an unexpected warmth.
In the beginning, Wen Qi chose the stories himself, but later he allowed the audience to vote. Reading the stories most requested in the comments resulted in significantly higher tips. Wen Qi was short on money, and he never hid this fact from his audience.
Watching the comments scroll rapidly, Wen Qi said, “Please type the stories you want to hear in the chat. I will select them randomly. If I do not pick yours, do not worry because there will be other opportunities.”
As he spoke, the chat erupted. Many Zerg began sending gifts even before the storytelling started, causing the corners of Wen Qi’s mouth to curl upward. They truly were a lovely group.
Perhaps because streaming twice in one day was unusual, the chat was filled with words of concern among the story requests. Wen Qi felt a flicker of warmth in his heart. After a moment, a specific ID caught his eye.
“The ID Cow Riding an Ant has successfully selected a story.”
Wen Qi tapped his terminal, and a story appeared before him. It was a common Zerg tale set in a world where Males were revered and Females were subordinate. In the story, a young Female grew up learning the hardships of mental sea riots and the longing for a high-ranking, gentle Male. He eventually met a Male with perfectly compatible pheromones and fell deeply in love with that unattainable figure.
That Male was high and mighty, cold to everyone, yet respectful toward Females. He was also a top candidate to become the Zerg Emperor. The protagonist worked tirelessly, climbing to the highest military rank to prove his worth. By then, he was no longer young, but on the day he reached the summit, he gathered his courage and confessed to the Male who had indeed become the Emperor.
The Emperor accepted and made him the Empress. Together, one governed the state while the other commanded the military, bringing order to the nation.
This was a story used to inspire young Females. Wen Qi had seen many versions of it where the Male was either powerful or high-ranked. In the end, the Female was happy. Whether that happiness stemmed from finally being with his beloved or simply from the pheromone compatibility that soothed his mental riots, no one truly knew. Perhaps even the original author did not know if the character was genuinely happy or merely satisfied with surviving.
Similarly, Wen Qi did not know either. He only knew that in this world, this was the norm.
After skimming the text, he began to read in his cool voice, “In an ordinary family on the Capital Star.”
As the story concluded, Wen Qi tapped the table and fell silent for a short while. This story felt different from his previous ones as the resonance seemed lacking. Imagining the scenes in the book, he closed his eyes and looked away from the terminal. The same voice flowed from his lips, but after a minute, a different rhythm infused his tone.
With his eyes closed, he did not see the viewer count climbing higher and higher. Word was spreading. After several days of broadcasting, his audience had reached a new peak.
The news had fermented across the livestreaming world. A newcomer had arrived in the music section. This streamer had no flashy talents and only read stories without showing his face, yet his fan loyalty was absurdly high. Anyone who stayed for thirty seconds found themselves unable to leave. Furthermore, viewers were actively recruiting others and posting clips on the Star Network, generating massive heat. In less than a week, this new streamer had gained millions of followers.
This was not unheard of in the industry as some had gained hundreds of millions overnight, but he was the only one based on a Blue Sequence planet to achieve this through pure skill in a single week.
“Director, this is bad.”
Inside the hospital, Director Yi You was processing paperwork when a Male burst into his office. Yi You looked up from his reports and fixed his gaze on the intruder. The Male’s face was filled with shock, as if he had encountered something impossible.
“What happened?” Yi You asked with a gentle smile.
If Wen Qi or Gu Nan were present, they would have noticed that Yi You was no longer the contradictory mix of flamboyant and mild. He now exuded a hint of danger. Even with a smile, he gave off the impression that provoking him would lead to a very bad end.
In his minimally decorated office, Yi You sat perfectly straight in a wooden chair wearing gold-rimmed glasses. For a split second, a dark glint flashed in his eyes as he looked at the subordinate.
“Director,” the Male gasped, “I know why so few Zerg have come to our hospital for mental sea treatment these past two days.”
“Why?” Yi You asked, pushing his glasses up with a slow, deliberate movement that felt strangely noble.
“It is because of a streamer on Planet 6,” the Male replied, his voice thick with disbelief. “That Female, no, I do not know if it is a Female. It might be a Sub-Female or a Male. The streamer’s voice is beautiful and can soothe the mental sea. Because he is broadcasting from Planet 6, the platform prioritizes his stream for those in the Blue Sequence. His voice acts as a sedative. He has gained millions of fans in just one week.”
“Every Zerg who has watched him says it has a miraculous effect.” The subordinate added, “Director, I visited his room myself. It truly works.”
“And?” Yi You stared at the Male as a dangerous light flickered behind his lenses. “What is the point? You are not the type to worry about the hospital’s welfare out of the blue.”
The Male swallowed hard. Facing Yi You like this made him tremble. “The point, the point is.” He bit his lip, trying to steady his nerves. “The point is that Zerg who watch him rarely come to our hospital anymore. Not just here, but our branch hospitals on other planets are seeing the same trend. It is most obvious on Blue Planet 1 and Purple Planet 5. As of now, the number of patients coming for mental sea treatment is less than a quarter of what it was yesterday.”
“Our clients are being stolen by this person.”
“Including my own fans,” the Male added, glancing at Yi You before lowering his head.
“Oh?” Interest colored Yi You’s eyes. He closed the paper medical report on his desk as his tone turned curious. “Such a miraculous person exists? How interesting.”
His smile deepened, though it was laced with a predatory edge. “When does he broadcast?”
“He is live right now.” The Male opened his terminal and projected the stream. The sight of fair hands appeared before them.
The person in the video did not show his face. Based on those hands alone, one could tell he was someone who lived a life of comfort. The figure was thin, and due to the kindness in his voice, he gave off a very gentle impression. Yet, his voice was naturally cool. This blend of warmth and coldness created a sense of contradiction that was incredibly attractive.
At that moment, the cool voice flowed out. It seemed slightly disguised, or perhaps it was his natural tone, but it was pleasing to the ear and made one want to close their eyes and relax.
Yi You did exactly that. He closed his eyes and listened to the familiar story. The mental energy in his mind gradually quieted. He only opened his eyes when the voice stopped.
“To think such a miraculous voice exists in this world,” Yi You marveled, impressed by the wonders of creation. “A voice with this much affinity that can make one forget pain is truly excellent. Compared to a free livestream, it is no wonder our hospital is losing. Sometimes I really envy those whom the Creator feeds by hand.”
Yi You sighed and looked at the Male. “Which territory is he from? Has he been contacted? Is he interested in joining our hospital?”
The Male’s expression soured. “Director, I am sorry. I could not find his exact location. He is using a temporary terminal. We cannot track the specific details, only that he is in the capital city of this planet. He bought an anti-tracking model. He is very careful. Even the table he uses is a common style found in any shop. Besides the table and his hands, he shows nothing. We do not even know if he is a Male or a Sub-Female. Because of Mr. Gu Nan’s auction, there are many outsiders in the city right now, making him even harder to find.”
“Is that so?” Yi You contemplated for a moment. “You have a streaming account, do you not? Go meet him.”
The Male’s face changed slightly. “Director, I am just trying to earn a living.”
Yi You folded his fingers under his chin. His voice was gentle, but his tone brooked no refusal. “I can arrange for a B-rank Male to help soothe your mental sea.”
The subordinate shuddered under Yi You’s gaze, but a smile quickly broke across his face. “It is my honor for the Director to use my account. I will start the stream immediately.”
Meanwhile, Wen Qi stopped after finishing his third story. He took a transparent disposable cup, drank some water to soothe his throat, and checked the stream. The chat was flying by. Nearly seven million Zerg were watching.
Females’ money truly is the easiest to earn, he thought.
Yet, a faint sense of sadness accompanied the thought. Seeing the rising donation amounts, his heart felt heavy. He had written this world, yet he had allowed it to become so deformed. It was his failure. This was the world under his pen, yet because of the gender dynamics, most Females could not meet a good end. They struggled in the corners of the world just for a chance to survive. These Zerg were exerting all their strength just to stay alive.
He was the creator of this world and the culprit who allowed Females to fall to this state, yet these very Zerg were showing him kindness. Some who had followed him from the start realized he was short on money and had donated large sums, totaling more than his previous earnings combined.
If these Zerg knew I was the reason for this broken world, what would they do? Wen Qi wondered.
But then he shook the thought away. It was not entirely his fault. If he were to be blamed for this, then in a sense, he had also given them life. He was just an author writing to earn a living. Who knew a story would become a real world? A story needs ups and downs. A story without conflict is incomplete. It just so happened that this specific unhealthy setting became a reality. He did not know if every story became a world or just this one.
As the warm water hit his throat, Wen Qi watched the chat, replying occasionally. Two minutes later, he spoke again.
“This time, we will.”
Before he could finish, the livestream suddenly went black. Wen Qi’s words died in his throat. Seeing the dense wall of complaints in the chat, he frowned and filed an appeal.
He waited two minutes, but there was no response. He opened the back end of the platform. Fortunately, while his stream was banned, the account management was not. He quickly withdrew the earnings from this session: over 3.2 million star coins after taxes.
After securing the money, Wen Qi returned to the appeal screen and waited quietly. He could keep his cool, but the chat could not.
[Which dog reported this? Step out right now.] [You ban the streamer, so you want us to go find a Male ourselves?] [Hilarious. The streamer is being suppressed. The videos have not even spread to other territories yet, so it must be Zerg from the Blue Sequence doing this. I was worried about the streamer’s safety before, so I did not post everything on the Star Network. But now you dare to strike? Fine. Very well.] [You dare touch our streamer? I want to see who dies first.] [Brothers, it is time to act.] [We want to see how you intend to shut the mouths of seven million Zerg.] [Funny. The account next door is live and they are condemning the streamer, saying he used improper psychological suggestion to make us think our mental seas were better. As if they could do it just because they have mouths. Let’s go curse them out.] [Tsk, not just next door, other sections are bashing our streamer too. How much of their cake did our streamer take for us? Support the best streamer! Go post the videos online and let the world judge.] [Blue Planet 6, you better not touch a single hair on his head, or we are not finished with you.]
On Blue Planet 1, a muscular Female named Shao Fei massaged his head. Feeling the dull pain recede, he smiled with satisfaction. He glanced at the chat and muttered, “This streamer really has something.”
He opened the donation interface, but just as he was about to send a gift, the screen went black. The notice read: [Streamer banned for violating.]
Shao Fei’s smile vanished. After a long pause, he roared, “Violating your head!”
A fierce light appeared in his eyes. “Being framed was already suffocating enough, and now you play this trick on me.”
None of the Zerg who survived in the Seven-Color Sequence were kind. Shao Fei looked at the chat and sent a private message to one of the most vocal users threatening to release videos.
Shao Fei: “You have the videos? Sell me a few.” User: “???” User: “Are you going to post them on the external Star Network?” Shao Fei: “Yes.” User: “I’ll give them to you for free.”
Shao Fei quickly received the files. Without hesitation, he used his terminal to send all the videos to his team’s group chat. He held a high position in his organization, effectively the second-in-command. His post was immediately met with a string of questions.
“Second Brother, what’s this?” “What kind of video is this? Did something happen?” “Boss already handled the person who framed you. Your wanted status will be canceled soon. You can come back then.” “Wait, the person in this video looks like a Male?” “A Male?! [Shocked]”
Shao Fei did not explain individually. He sent a voice message: “Watch for thirty seconds and you will understand. Post these videos on all your social media accounts. Make as much noise as possible. For the title, write.”
