The Zerg Monarch’s Path to Godhood - Chapter 10.2
Wen Qi added, “A fan turning on their idol refers to those worthy of being called fans who were failed by their idol and are venting their anger. It does not refer to a fair-weather fan like you who believes whatever they hear.”
He raised his hand that was clasped with Gu Nan’s, his expression natural. “I am also his fan, but unlike you, I seek the truth from facts and find it in my own way. And you?”
Wen Qi’s gaze was like a needle pricking the Sub-female. “Your idol is being framed nearly to death, and you turn on him immediately? What does that mean? Even a weathercock does not turn as fast as you.”
The Sub-female was speechless and looked stunned. He stared at Wen Qi defiantly. “Those are just your interpretations. The information I received is different from yours.”
“I have researched it, but the results disappointed me.”
He pointed at Gu Nan. “The information I found says he took a liking to His Majesty the Emperor. However, his rank and military title were not enough for him to become the Emperor’s female attendant. In his unrequited love, he defected to the Beast race.”
The planets of the Seven-Color Sequence were like the dark zones of the Zerg race. Here, it did not matter who the Emperor or the sixteen Domain Lords were. This place valued the law of the strong. Even the Zerg Emperor was a subject of conversation here. What the Sub-female said was the official motive provided for Gu Nan, combined with some evidence of unknown origin. That forged evidence pointed exactly to the time when Gu Nan was a Major General.
The Zerg territory was vast. While Major Generals were few, each domain had at least fifty or sixty, and some had over a hundred. Combined with those on the Capital Star, there were nearly fifteen hundred Major Generals in the entire race. To say that Gu Nan had taken a liking to the Emperor at that time and conspired with the Beast race to seize the Emperor seemed a bit far-fetched, but it was not impossible. Some can control their initial desires, while others cannot.
At that time, Gu Nan was famous at a young age and naturally had great ambitions. Such a thought was not strange. But any intelligent Zerg could figure out the inconsistency.
The most outstanding and youngest Major General of the Wantian Domain, first in all competitions at the academy, and someone who had broken several records set by the General Marshal of the Capital Star, Zong Xiangxing. After joining the military, he quickly rose to Major General through his own ability. How could such a person be a fool? He had a limitless future and great strength. Reaching Lieutenant General would only take a few more battles. Combat was the shortcut for female Zerg and the most suitable path.
There were only three or four hundred Lieutenant Generals in the entire race. At that rank, even the Emperor would not easily ignore him. Furthermore, Gu Nan was still young. A few more battles against the Beasts or Aliens to protect a planet, and the title of General would be within his grasp. At the very least, he could wait for the old generals to retire. Even if he did not become a General, he could run for the position of Domain Lord at his age. Even if he were not elected, simply participating would earn him respect wherever he went. If such an outstanding individual truly wanted to be close to the Emperor, the Emperor would likely not refuse.
Why would he sacrifice the fundamental for the trivial?
Although he was injured at the time, those injuries were not incurable for the Zerg. Wen Qi knew Gu Nan’s history; all he needed was high-grade repair fluid and some herbs to be healed. Furthermore, the difficulty of helping the Beast race defeat the Zerg was greater than the difficulty of rebelling to seize the throne.
The current world was a tripod of three races. The extinction of any one required the other two to unite and pay a heavy price. Since Gu Nan graduated first from the Imperial Academy, he could not be an idiot. He must have known which choice was best for him. Why would he choose a path he knew was impossible?
Thinking of this, Wen Qi felt a surge of frustration. Were those Zerg all fools? They could not see through such a simple matter and had sent his protagonist to this kind of place. And the one in front of him was also a fool. Everyone was a fool! If there were one smart person, he would not have been brought to this world. Irritating!
“The Emperor?”
He murmured and looked at the Sub-female with pity, his tone unchanged. “If the Beast race were destroyed and Gu Nan asked the Emperor to be his Male Lord, do you think the Emperor would agree?”
The Sub-female replied almost without thinking, “But it is impossible for the Beast race to be destroyed.”
Wen Qi’s mocking gaze fell on him. He said nothing and just stared. After a moment, the Sub-female’s face turned pale. If it were impossible for the Beast race to be destroyed, then the same applied to the Zerg. Even if the Emperor could not control the other fifteen domains, he was the Zerg Emperor and the object of protection for the entire race. Even if the other fifteen Domain Lords were captured, he would not be. So why would his idol do such a thing?
The thought suddenly occurred to the Sub-female, and he felt his face heat up. He did not know what to say and did not dare look at Gu Nan. Wen Qi saw his expression and knew he understood. But he did not want to let the Sub-female off so easily. He glanced sideways at Gu Nan, who was half a step behind him. Seeing that Gu Nan’s expression had not changed, he knew Gu Nan was fine. He also looked at the female Zerg recording nearby.
“Answer me,” Wen Qi said coldly.
The Sub-female blushed and nodded reluctantly. “He would,” he whispered.
Wen Qi continued, “It is common knowledge that Gu Nan was trained by the Imperial Academy. The evidence corresponds to the time he became a Major General. It is known that nearly eighty percent of the top graduates each year have become Generals, and the remaining twenty percent are Lieutenant Generals or Major Generals. Do you think if Gu Nan became a General and asked to be with the Emperor or requested his help, the Emperor would agree?”
Even if he was unwilling to admit it, the Sub-female nodded. Currently, the sixteen domains were self-governing, and the strength of the top three even exceeded that of the Central Domain on the Capital Star. If a General from the Wantian Domain truly came to the door, the Emperor would certainly not pass up such an opportunity.
“But.” He wanted to say something, but Wen Qi interrupted him after two words.
“There are no but’s,” Wen Qi said coldly. “I am sure you have all read Gu Nan’s history. He attained the rank of Major General at twenty-five. After entering the battlefield, he reached Lieutenant General at twenty-seven. At twenty-eight, which was a year ago, he won a major battle and successfully promoted to General and became the prospective Domain Lord of the Wantian Domain.”
Wen Qi paused and continued, “What could he not obtain? Why would he intentionally release Beast prisoners during the battle of his promotion to defect? Because he could not bear to see them die? That is a joke. If he were with the Beasts, why would he kill so many of them and then show mercy to those few? If he wanted to hide his identity, would it not be safer to kill them?”
“Why would he let them go?”
“Even for the sake of ensuring the previous transaction was not exposed, given his status at that time, as long as he firmly denied it and presented his military achievements, what if the Beast race had evidence? Would the Zerg race abandon Gu Nan over some minor matters? He would still be his General.”
“Assuming Gu Nan was indeed their operative at that time, why would those few Beasts know that Gu Nan was their undercover agent and specifically thank him?”
“Even if the news reached the Beast home planet and the high-level Beasts there told them of Gu Nan’s identity, as an operative infiltrating the opposing camp, should Gu Nan’s identity not be as secret as possible? Why tell several unimportant officers?”
“If, and I mean if, Gu Nan belonged to the Beast race, why would he dare to return to the Wantian Domain with such fanfare after releasing those Beasts? Is he not afraid of death?”
“I am telling you, if he truly were a traitor, given his caution,” Wen Qi looked at the Sub-female, his face filled only with seriousness and coldness, “anyone who knew his identity would be dead. Only then could he ensure he would not expose himself.”
“As for the Zerg currently questioning him? It is simply a joke.”
Wen Qi sneered. “The Imperial Academy did not see what kind of person he was after all these years, and the Zerg who lived and died with him for so many years did not see what kind of person he was. Yet, a transitionary adjutant who was with him for only two years saw it and even found evidence? Mr. Sub-female, use your rusty brain to think. Would the top graduate of the Imperial Academy, who excelled in everything, have his secrets exposed by an adjutant? If he lacked even that much caution, he would have died countless times already.”
Wen Qi’s final words were extremely serious, and for a moment, the surrounding Zerg were stunned by his speech. Would a Zerg who had already climbed to the position of prospective Domain Lord lack even that much caution? No. Every Zerg knew the answer in their heart. Seeing the Sub-female’s flushed face, the cold light in Wen Qi’s eyes receded. After finishing his series of remarks, the frustration in his heart was also soothed. Wen Qi could not help but look at Gu Nan beside him, his serious expression relaxing slightly.
The female Zerg beside him was still maintaining his act, his eyes grey and devoid of emotion, showing no reaction to his words. However, Wen Qi looked down slightly and easily saw Gu Nan’s trembling fingertips. That was enough. Wen Qi looked away. Even if Gu Nan truly wanted to do something in the future, he would not go too far. It was not that he felt sorry for other Zerg; he simply did not want Gu Nan to do something he would regret.
Heaven knows how worried he was upon realizing the Commander was Gu Nan, especially after glimpsing the negative emotions on Gu Nan that day. If those negative emotions were not relieved and were allowed to explode one day, it would likely be terrifying. He feared those negative emotions would affect Gu Nan. These words today were an explanation for Gu Nan and were also meant to tell Gu Nan that there were still Zerg on his side and that he was not alone. He knew Gu Nan’s sense of honor and belonging toward the Zerg race and did not want Gu Nan to give up on his dreams.
The result seemed good. Wen Qi led Gu Nan forward two steps and raised his hand to pat the Sub-female’s shoulder, his tone no longer as cold as before. “Do not become a pawn in a power struggle, Mr. Sub-female.”
“Occasionally, you must learn to look at things from other perspectives, such as the perspective of a commoner, a ruler, or a competing power.”
“And,” Wen Qi paused for two seconds, his lips curling into a smile that did not reach his eyes, “in the Blue Sequence, on this planet where Zerg die all the time, a single life is truly not that important. Do not take yourself too seriously.” He shrugged, giving a kind reminder in line with Lu Li’s persona. “Even if you were to go out and die at the door, no Zerg would care. Just like me; I would only clap and cheer as if watching a show. A life on this planet is the least valuable thing compared to Starcoins. Here, silence is a good thing. It is best not to have things like youthful passion or humanity, or you will not even know how you died.”
He turned back slightly to look at Gu Nan, who was still looking down, and his tone returned to coldness. “I am telling you this because you were once a fan of Gu Nan. However, since you have removed yourself from Gu Nan’s fan base, you likely do not need my experience. I will not tell you specifically how to protect yourself.” Wen Qi’s lips curled slightly, his voice like a demon’s whisper. “Notice the stares around you? I wish you a long life until tomorrow. Perhaps then I will be willing to teach you a few tricks.”
Hearing Wen Qi’s blessing, the Sub-female’s face turned even paler. He retreated two steps in a panic, his gaze sweeping around, and indeed saw several female Zerg eyeing him like predators. His heart skipped a beat. Wen Qi did not see the look the female Zerg behind him gave him after his last sentence, a look filled with complexity and a hint of amusement. This male’s personality was truly such that he would not suffer any loss, Gu Nan thought, the fluctuating emotions in his eyes vanishing into coldness.
Seeing the Sub-female move aside, Wen Qi turned to Gu Nan and said brightly, “Let us go.” Gu Nan nodded and tightened his grip on Wen Qi’s hand.
As Wen Qi led Gu Nan into the hospital, the sound of clapping rang out inside. Both Zerg were slightly surprised and looked toward the sound. They saw a female Zerg walking toward them. He had vibrant short red hair, a handsome face, and a smile in his eyes. He walked up to Wen Qi and Gu Nan while clapping and said appreciatively, “Well said, sir. I did not know there were still such transparent Zerg in this world.”
“Director.” The Sub-female who had blocked Wen Qi’s path earlier looked at the female Zerg who had walked out and lowered his head in fear. “I apologize for disturbing you.” The red-haired Director waved his hand, his tone slightly raised. “It is fine. Do not be so reckless next time.” He spoke gently and appeared mild-tempered, but Wen Qi knew this Zerg was not simple. This was a place of chaos; anyone who could open a hospital with exorbitant fees here without being killed must have his own strengths. Wen Qi would never look down on any Zerg.
Wen Qi said, “Thank you for the praise, sir.” The red-haired female Zerg allowed Wen Qi’s gaze to linger on him and nodded toward Wen Qi, his tone carrying a peculiar warmth. “Allow me to introduce myself. I am the Director here, Yi You.” After saying this to Wen Qi, Yi You looked at Gu Nan, stepped forward two paces with a smile, and walked to Gu Nan’s side like an old acquaintance, patting him on the shoulder. “General Gu Nan, I have long heard of your name. Congratulations on becoming a General. Although I have left the Wantian Domain, I still respect you from the bottom of my heart.”
Gu Nan nodded slightly toward him, a bit more light appearing in his eyes as he said hoarsely, “Major General Yi You.” Hearing this, Yi You shook his head and smiled, his tone full of emotion. “The General is joking. I left the Wantian Domain long ago and do not deserve the title of Major General from you. As for you, General, that Sub-female just mentioned your battle record. You have established such merits for our race; you are truly a role model of our Wantian Domain.”
Gu Nan lowered his gaze and did not say much. Yi You glanced at where Gu Nan was standing and noticed the positioning of Wen Qi and Gu Nan. Yi You’s eyes flickered, but his face remained smiling as he made a welcoming gesture. “General and this gentleman, please come in. I was a doctor before joining the military. Although I am not incredibly skilled, I am experienced. I will examine the General.”
Wen Qi did not expect Gu Nan and Yi You to have this history. He looked at Gu Nan questioningly but remained silent. Gu Nan also did not expect Wen Qi not to respond, and for a moment did not catch Yi You’s words either. After two seconds of silence, Gu Nan’s low, raspy voice came out. “I appreciate it.” After speaking, he looked down and asked Wen Qi, “Do you think that is alright?”
Yi You raised an eyebrow as if he wanted to say something but did not. Wen Qi knew Gu Nan’s current persona and nodded, braving Yi You’s gaze. “That is fine. You do what you think is best; you do not need to ask me about everything.” “Thank you,” Gu Nan replied respectfully. Wen Qi thought, he was still not used to this version of Gu Nan. Hearing their conversation, the smile in Yi You’s eyes deepened significantly. He made a welcoming gesture. “General, please.”
Gu Nan lowered his gaze, ignored the expressions of the surrounding Zerg, and walked beside Yi You. Wen Qi also entered the hospital and waited in the seating area near the entrance. While waiting, he pondered the identity of Director Yi You. Major General? He had no memory of this Zerg. However, seeing Gu Nan’s appearance, he seemed very familiar with that Major General named Yi You. Could Yi You be Gu Nan’s subordinate? That did not seem right either. Yi You appeared to be that female Zerg’s real name, and there was no such person around Gu Nan. But if not, in what capacity did this Major General come here? What did he want to do? Or was he simply here with no other objective?
