Qin Yan had originally planned to let Xia Mingtang rest at home for a day, but Xia Mingtang, worried about her unconscious grandmother, rested only briefly before wanting to rush to the hospital.
Qin Yan could only go along and take on the role of driver.
Fortunately, the hospital bed was spacious enough for both of them to lie down without issues.
However, Qin Yan had been imagining things a bit too ideally. Not long after arriving at the hospital, she received a phone call.
Seeing Xia Mingtang’s face drop when she put down the phone, Qin Yan didn’t even need her to speak to guess the situation.
“Go. Let me know once you arrive safely.”
It was the first time Xia Mingtang had asked her to report back for safety. Qin Yan stared at her wife with dark, glossy eyes, feeling even more reluctant to leave.
This time, though, she didn’t waste much time on sentimentality. She wanted to handle matters quickly so she could get back to her wife sooner.
While the hospital room was empty of other awake patients, she secretly hugged Xia Mingtang and gave her a big kiss.
Before Xia Mingtang could react, she turned and slipped away.
Watching her lively figure retreat, Xia Mingtang’s heart felt a bit lighter.
Even though the two wives were separated by distance, they kept in constant contact.
Especially Qin Yan—whenever she had a spare moment, she would bombard her wife with messages.
Most of them were just casual chats, check-ins, or trivial things, with no substantive information. But she insisted on filling the chat box.
Xia Mingtang, with more free time at the hospital while caring for the patient, was surprisingly tolerant of her suddenly talkative, amnesiac partner.
Looking at the several long-winded, rambling messages in the chat box, she paused for a few seconds before replying with a “patting the kitty’s head” emoji.
Qin Yan didn’t reply immediately, likely busy with other matters.
Xia Mingtang set her phone aside and turned her attention to Xia Huaying on the hospital bed, discovering signs that she had regained consciousness. She quickly pressed the call button repeatedly.
Doctors and nurses arrived promptly. After an examination, Xia Huaying successfully woke up.
Xia Mingtang restrained her excitement and carefully listened to the doctor’s instructions.
Half an hour later, under Xia Mingtang’s care, Xia Huaying drank most of a bowl of rice porridge, regaining some strength.
Holding Xia Mingtang’s hand, she expressed her relief, “It’s good that you’re back, it’s good that you’re back. By the way, was Xiao Yan with you?”
Xia Mingtang let her grandmother hold one hand while placing the bowl on the bedside table with the other, nodding.
“Yes, she came to the hospital this morning. Seeing that you were still unconscious, she went back to the company now.”
She carefully reported only the facts, avoiding any mention of Qin Yan’s amnesia or the additional time needed for her to rehearse, not wanting to worry the patient.
Xia Huaying nodded in understanding. “Young people need to focus on their careers. As long as she’s with you, I can rest easy. By the way, has anything happened in the past few days?”
Nothing major—just that a near addition to the family genealogy had almost occurred.
Xia Mingtang thought that, fortunately, the Xia Zhenwei father and son had not caused further trouble recently. Better not to bring up this frustrating matter.
“Everything’s fine.”
Seeing her granddaughter’s expression, Xia Huaying didn’t fully believe her. “Bring me my laptop. I was unconscious for several days—surely the company hasn’t been completely idle?”
Even just waking up, her grandmother couldn’t stop thinking about work. Xia Mingtang admired her iron-willed dedication.
Knowing her persuasion would have little effect, she obediently fetched the laptop.
Xia Huaying opened it, checking emails and messaging several key company personnel simultaneously.
Even at over seventy, her fingers still moved deftly across the keyboard.
Within a short while, her expression shifted from serious to calm, finally closing the laptop with a relieved sigh. “At least my efforts in cultivating them haven’t been wasted.”
Seeing this, Xia Mingtang knew the company was fine. She grabbed a pillow and propped Xia Huaying up.
“I told you, the world keeps turning no matter who’s missing. You just focus on recovering. Don’t worry about anything else.”
“That’s not entirely true,” Xia Huaying shook her head in disagreement. “One must plan for the future. The new factory in the west district is about to be completed, and it relates to Xia Group’s strategic development over the next three years. I need to oversee it myself.”
The elderly woman was full of energy and tried to get out of bed.
Xia Mingtang quickly stopped her. “Wait, the doctor said you need to rest for another week. Isn’t Manager Song overseeing the factory? You don’t have to worry.”
Over the past days, Xia Mingtang had kept informed about the Xia Group’s operations. She knew that her grandmother’s trusted aides were all handling their responsibilities diligently.
Xia Huaying paused, then added, “Xiao Song is a modest kid, but too soft. If no one crosses her bottom line, she easily compromises. This project isn’t like the others—I still need to check on it myself.”
Seeing her grandmother’s stubborn stance, Xia Mingtang had no choice.
“You rest, I’ll supervise. Whatever you need, just tell me. I won’t compromise!”
Xia Huaying, finally restrained, looked at her granddaughter and relented. “Fine. I’ll notify the company. See if Xiao Yan is free to come along with you.”
Following her grandmother’s instructions, Xia Mingtang arrived at Xia Group early the next morning.
She knew Xia Huaying was more likely to relent because of Qin Yan.
What her grandmother didn’t know was that Qin Yan was currently struggling herself.
After all, she was still an excellent graduate of J University… and her roommate and junior at that.
The saying “One who stays near vermilion becomes red”—just supervising a project—fit the situation.
Arriving at the company, she met Manager Song, who she had coordinated with in advance. Not long after, she noticed an annoying fly outside the glass door.
“Why is he here?” Xia Mingtang frowned at Xia Chayi outside.
Manager Song peeked and calmly replied, “Vice President Xia brought him to the company the other day to let him gain experience on a new project.”
“Hmph.” Xia Mingtang smiled coldly.
Xia Zhenwei, failing in one scheme, had immediately cooked up another. Seeing that he couldn’t yet legitimize his son, he tried to secretly get him into the company while his grandmother was hospitalized.
He was betting that by the time Xia Huaying was discharged, Xia Chayi would have already gained influence with the staff, making it hard to remove him.
“Kick him out. Don’t let him set foot here again.” Xia Mingtang stood, her temper rising.
“All right,” Manager Song said after a brief pause, standing to comply.
Although he didn’t want to offend Vice President Xia, Xia General had already remotely instructed the management team to fully support Xia Mingtang’s decisions during her grandmother’s hospitalization.
Within half an hour, Xia Chayi, holding a nearly empty file box, was escorted out of Xia Group.
He looked through the glass at Xia Mingtang standing above, his usually gentle face contorted with a hint of ferocity.
Having dealt with the annoying “fly,” Xia Mingtang got down to serious business.
She requested the West District factory data from Manager Song and spent the morning familiarizing herself with the situation.
Xia Huaying wanted to expand a production line. She had purchased land in the west district and started building a factory months ago.
According to the plan, it should be completed this month.
All resources—funding, labor, and materials—were already in place. If nothing went wrong, “overseeing” it would literally just mean supervising.
Xia Huaying, however, was concerned that a new construction team might slack off due to her sudden illness.
When initially contacting them, she noticed the team leader tended to treat people differently based on status, but she had urgently needed to speed up construction and had hired all available teams nearby.
This team was competent, but with Xia Huaying overseeing, they wouldn’t dare cause trouble.
After understanding the project, Xia Mingtang decided to visit the site in the afternoon.
She set down the thick materials and stretched.
Picking up her phone, she saw the chat box filled with several new messages.

Xia Mingtang couldn’t help but smile and replied with a “hug” emoji, starting to carefully type a response.
“The porridge looks delicious, but I can’t enjoy it right now. I’ll be heading to the factory soon, being a diligent little bee.”
