- Chapter 77 - Is the only way to make this disobedient little fox behave to lock her up completely?
In a small alley in Sucheng, a scene unfolded.
A beautiful girl with striking features dashed forward, wearing mid-heeled lambskin shoes, cutting through the air like a streak of wind.
Behind her, a woman whose features resembled an ink painting chased desperately, her expression filled with anxiety.
The two of them ran in a cat-and-mouse chase, weaving through several street stalls, each seeming to risk life and limb.
An uninformed onlooker would probably assume that the girl ahead owed the woman behind several tens of millions.
In the end, the girl successfully shook off her “creditor.”
If it had been in the past, given the difference in their physical abilities, Summer (Xia) Mingtang would have been caught in less than ten seconds.
But now, Qin Yan’s body had not fully recovered, and she was still unfamiliar with the terrain of Sucheng.
So the chase unfolded, one running and one pursuing, yet the distance between them grew rather than shrank.
Qin Yan had just gotten off the plane today and immediately rushed to a public phone booth to investigate.
Her plan had been hasty—she had originally wanted to prepare more thoroughly before reuniting with her wife.
Yet, seeing the one she loved so close, she simply couldn’t help herself.
She hadn’t expected that upon seeing her, her wife would react as if seeing a ghost—running at full speed and disappearing.
At that moment, Xia Mingtang hid in a dark corner of the alley, extremely nervous.
In reality, she hadn’t managed to get far—just found a hiding spot out of Qin Yan’s line of sight.
From her position, she could clearly observe Qin Yan’s every reaction.
Qin Yan crouched, clutching her chest, coughing repeatedly, refusing the concern of passersby, her eyes red with a hint of severity.
Xia Mingtang knew about Qin Yan’s near-drowning incident, so ordinarily she should have felt some concern.
But now, more than worry, she felt fear.
She had put so much effort into planning this, had hidden so carefully, and yet she had still been found so quickly.
She liked her current life, didn’t want to be caught, and didn’t know how much Qin Yan had already discovered.
She clutched her wildly beating heart, quietly watching the situation a few meters away.
Finally, Qin Yan outside the alley seemed to catch her breath, then, as if remembering something, turned and left.
This time, Xia Mingtang was smart enough not to immediately run out.
She waited a few minutes, and seeing that no one returned, she called Yang Fan.
The phone rang several seconds before being picked up, and the voice on the other end sounded quite annoyed.
“Xia Xiaohua, what’s going on again? Didn’t we agree you wouldn’t bother me after seven in the evening?”
Xia Mingtang wasn’t deliberately breaking Yang’s rule, but this was an emergency.
“I’ll apologize for bothering you later, but right now I have something extremely important to ask.
“In the past two days, has anyone come looking for you?”
Yang Fan, a little irritable, ran his hands through his hair. “In the past few days? Other than you harassing me several times a day, who else would it be?”
Ah… that’s a relief, Xia Mingtang thought: Yang Fan’s place was temporarily safe.
“Okay, got it. You keep busy then.”
After hanging up, Xia Mingtang left a bewildered Yang Fan, speechless at being interrupted.
Not daring to linger outside for fear of running into Qin Yan again, Xia Mingtang returned to her residence, showered, and lay on the sofa, playing a puzzle game while her mind was heavy with worries.
There was a knock at the door.
Xia Mingtang tensed and looked through the peephole—it was Yang Fan, dressed in a very cute outfit.
Relieved, she opened the door, glanced at the wall clock, and thought, “It’s only ten-thirty. Isn’t Yang Fan supposed to be writing at this time?”
Yang Fan entered, immediately finding the sofa without being invited, and sat down.
“I just finished the ending chapter, right when you made that random phone call. So what was that about?”
Mentioning the ending, Yang Fan’s demeanor transformed. He was no longer irritable and seemed genuinely concerned.
Seeing his gossipy expression, Xia Mingtang didn’t think he was truly caring, but she had just been frightened and needed someone to talk to.
After a few seconds’ hesitation, she said, her face serious, “I saw her today…”
“She? Boss Qin?” Yang Fan’s interest piqued.
Xia Mingtang: …
“You writers really are sensitive, huh?”
She had intended to tease a bit and build suspense.
Yang Fan humbly replied, “Well, no need to overpraise. After all, we don’t know many of the same people. Continue.”
Taking a deep breath, Xia Mingtang continued, “Actually, when I saw you last, I only told half the story. The other half is that this time I faked my death to hide from her.”
“Oh.” Yang Fan nodded calmly.
Seeing his composure, Xia Mingtang grew uneasy. “You already knew?”
“Not exactly.” Yang Fan had wanted to grab a piece of fruit, but found only a sad little apple on the coffee table and gave up.
“I just figured, with your personality, it’s not surprising you could do something like this.”
Hearing that, Xia Mingtang felt indignant. “How am I ‘heartless’? Aren’t you going to ask why I was hiding from her?”
“Okay, why?” Yang Fan humored her.
“She’s too controlling. When she’s in a good mood, she can coax and pamper you, but once she makes a decision, no one can defy her. Living with her means you have no space of your own. Every action, every social contact, is under her control.” Xia Mingtang’s tone grew gloomy as she spoke.
“Wow, so it’s forced love?”
Yang Fan was glared at, instantly turning serious. “Alright, that is serious. Did you talk to her openly and honestly?”
“Some things can’t be solved just by talking,” Xia Mingtang sighed. She didn’t dare reveal what exactly Qin Yan had done.
“So, you two haven’t had a real heart-to-heart yet.” Yang Fan concluded quickly.
“Perhaps neither of you truly understands the other.
“Boss Qin isn’t unreasonable—I spent time with her in Yun Town.
“So, when a normally rational person suddenly behaves irrationally, it’s usually because of external stimulation or having a ‘red line’ crossed.”
Xia Mingtang lowered her head, thoughtful. “You mean, I triggered her ‘red line’?”
“Possibly. You are her red line.
“If I remember correctly, you were the one who wholeheartedly pursued Boss Qin before, even asked me for a strategy.
“Your abstract pursuit methods… I won’t even mention.
“But you still got her. Then, you didn’t cherish her and left shortly after.
“This is the second time you’ve run off, right? People’s actions!” Yang Fan spoke dryly, taking a bite of the sad little apple.
Xia Mingtang had never thought things appeared this way to others.
She realized she did seem heartless: provoking someone to madness, then running away without responsibility.
So, she humbly asked, “Then what should I do?”
“What else? Apologize where necessary, communicate where necessary. Since you started this, you can’t just run away because you don’t like how things turned out.”
Yang Fan tossed the difficult-to-eat apple into the trash, patted Xia Mingtang’s shoulder, and said earnestly:
“Young people, avoiding problems won’t solve them.”
Meanwhile, Qin Yan returned to the hotel, looking through the window at the bustling street, her eyes flickering with light.
During her stay in Rongcheng, she had secretly monitored the phones of those close to Xia Mingtang.
This little fox had been cunning and ruthless—she had kept her cover for several days without showing any hint.
Just as Qin Yan began to doubt her tracking, good news arrived…
It had taken her less than a day to go from locating the public phone booth to flying to the destination.
No one had yet realized anything. The doctor responsible for her recovery was so frustrated he nearly swore.
Before Xia Mingtang entered the booth, Qin Yan had already spotted the figure she longed for amid the crowd.
Vibrant, happy, just like the time in Yun Town.
Her heart stirred as she quietly followed for some distance.
Until the ringtone of the call transferred to her phone sounded.
She had imagined countless scenarios of their reunion.
She should have been angry, but perhaps she couldn’t bear to scold her beloved.
She would have held her disobedient little wife tightly, expressing the longing of all those days, scolding her for being so cruel.
Yet, unexpectedly, her wife treated her like a viper.
In a moment of impulse, having lost her, Qin Yan was so furious that her palms were bloodied from gripping tightly.
Was the only way to make this disobedient little fox behave to lock her up completely?
“Cough! Cough cough cough cough!”
Overcome with emotion, she coughed, gasping for air.
Clutching her chest with one hand, she grabbed a medicine bottle, shook out two pills, and swallowed them dry.
She held herself up on the sofa, pressing her deep finger marks into the fabric.
Just as she planned to call and instruct someone to search for Xia Mingtang in Sucheng, her phone rang.
Answering, she heard the voice that haunted her dreams:
“Where are you? Let’s arrange a time to meet and talk.”
