The Yandere Queen's Manual for Training Her Wife - Chapter 7
Xia Mingtang woke up to find it was already 9:30 in the morning. She had fallen asleep so suddenly the night before that her memory cut off at the moment she delivered soup to Qin Yan.
Rubbing her slightly aching temples, she stood on the floor in her slippers, paused for five seconds, and finally received the brain’s command to go wash up.
Her clothes had somehow been changed into pajamas—by whom, she didn’t know. As she brushed her teeth, she tried to recall what had happened, but the more she thought about it, the more her head hurt. She decided to ask Yang Fan directly later.
She picked the simplest shirt and outfit and headed out. The first person she saw was Yi Yi. Just as she was about to greet her, Yi Yi suddenly veered away like she’d seen something terrifying.
Xia Mingtang: ?
She kept walking and, as expected, found a familiar figure in the small kitchen. She greeted cheerfully, “Yang Fan!”
Yang Fan turned off the stove and looked back at Xia Mingtang’s sunny smile, feeling an inexplicable toothache.
“You’re up. Come eat some rice noodles.”
Though they’d only known each other for a few days, they’d become a well-matched meal duo—one cooked, the other handled shopping and dishwashing.
Of course, their chemistry grew quickly mainly because they had good conversations over meals.
“I think I blacked out yesterday. After we gave the soup to Qin Yan, did anything else happen?” Xia Mingtang prepared a dipping sauce, now increasingly accustomed to local customs.
Blacked out? After all that chaos you caused last night, you’re just calling it a blackout?
Yang Fan slurped her noodles, suddenly not so keen on telling the truth. She paused for a few seconds.
“Boss Qin saw the soup you made and praised your unique creativity.”
[Last night, Dr. Li examined the mushroom soup and remarked, “Tsk, I’ve seen people cook dark cuisine, and I’ve seen people eat poisonous mushrooms, but making poisonous mushrooms into dark cuisine and feeding it to yourself? That’s a first. This girl is truly one of a kind.”
Qin Yan, held tightly by Xia Mingtang at the bedside, couldn’t let Dr. Li’s comment hang, so she said, “Xiaohua is indeed different from other guests… she has a unique mind.”]
“She also praised your sense of justice.”
[The patient wasn’t in serious condition. Watching Xia Mingtang “unleash powers” on the bed, Dr. Li joked, “She’s definitely unique—inducing hallucinations in herself just to dream about saving the world.”
Everyone present silently agreed. Qin Yan, ever kind and protective of her guests, added, “Even when she’s unconscious, she’s thinking about saving the world. That shows she’s a very righteous young lady.”]
“She also said you have a kind heart.”
[While chatting, Xia Mingtang couldn’t sit still. Even Yang Fan couldn’t help but comment, “She really is full of justice. In just a short time, she’s already defeated Grey Wolf, Black Tiger, Fallen King Kong…”
The room fell silent as everyone watched Xia Mingtang’s solo performance. After a while, Qin Yan sighed, “After defeating those villains, she always tries to reform them instead of eliminating them. She’s very kind-hearted.”
With each sentence Yang Fan spoke, Xia Mingtang’s smile grew wider, until she was grinning like a blooming flower.
“She really said all that? Gosh, I just made a simple soup. She’s really too kind to admire me like that—it’s almost embarrassing.”
Yang Fan: …
You? Embarrassed?
Xia Mingtang finished breakfast and washed the dishes at lightning speed, then skipped off to the third floor.
Yang Fan only needed one glance at her bouncing figure to know she had completely believed everything just said.
Xia Mingtang arrived outside Qin Yan’s room and heard what sounded like a cartoon playing inside, though it was hard to make out through the door.
Qin Yan came to open the door, and the background sound vanished. Xia Mingtang, curious, asked, “Sister, were you watching a cartoon just now?”
“No, just scrolling through some short videos. Come in and sit,” Qin Yan invited her in, as gentle and graceful as ever.
Xia Mingtang was surprised that someone with such classical elegance also watched short videos.
Seeing that Qin Yan didn’t want to continue the topic, she didn’t press further. After all, it couldn’t possibly be related to the Ji family.
She sat on the sofa, looked up at Qin Yan with a sincere smile, “Sister, do you have any work for me today?”
If before she had approached Qin Yan with a strategic mindset, now she genuinely wanted to help. Even her “sister” sounded sweeter than usual.
After all, who doesn’t like being praised and appreciated by a beautiful woman?
Qin Yan observed her excited expression and, after confirming she wasn’t still hallucinating from the mushroom soup, smiled and said, “There’s nothing important today. Since you worked so hard yesterday, how about we go out for a walk?”
“Yes, yes!” Xia Mingtang nodded enthusiastically.
She’d been rejected when she tried to invite Qin Yan out the night before, but now Qin Yan had taken the initiative. Clearly, her food attack strategy had hit the mark.
It was just soup—easy for the clever and capable Xia Mingtang. Not hard at all.
Feeling validated, Xia Mingtang wanted to keep the momentum going and pulled out her phone to start planning their outing.
But online info was unreliable—recommended places were either closed or fake influencer spots with deleted bad reviews.
She grew anxious, swiping faster and faster.
Qin Yan noticed and said gently, “Xiaohua, if you’re not afraid I’ll sell you off, how about just following me?”
Xia Mingtang remembered that Yun Town was Qin Yan’s turf and replied sweetly, “Sister, you’re beautiful and kind—I’m not worried at all. I’ll follow your lead.”
Qin Yan didn’t take her anywhere remote, just to a small market three streets away from the inn.
Though small, it was a bustling trade hub where locals sold homemade goods.
Xia Mingtang’s eyes lit up at the vibrant scene: opportunity!
Spending money was her specialty.
Though she’d lost her role as tour guide, she could still be a walking ATM!
So in this lively little market, a funny scene unfolded.
Qin Yan led Xia Mingtang through the crowd, introducing Yun Town’s specialties. Whenever her gaze lingered on a stall, Xia Mingtang—mistaking it for interest—went full drama CEO mode and bought everything.
Qin Yan said the osmanthus cake stall had been around for ten years—buy!
Qin Yan said the woven crafts were part of intangible heritage—buy!
Qin Yan said the sugar figurines required skill—buy!
If Qin Yan liked it, Xia Mingtang bought it.
Halfway through the market, Xia Mingtang looked like a Christmas tree.
Qin Yan assumed she was just excited as a first-time visitor and didn’t stop her, only teasing, “Xiaohua, you’re in a great mood today?”
“Mm!” Xia Mingtang nodded vigorously. She felt victory was near.
Her arms and neck were loaded with packages, but she didn’t feel tired. She was already planning to gift everything to Qin Yan as a surprise. If one bowl of soup earned praise, imagine what all these gifts would do!
Normally delicate, Xia Mingtang was now full of energy, growing more enthusiastic with each step.
Eventually, Qin Yan couldn’t bear it and suggested, “We’ve been walking a while. Let’s sit down and eat something.”
“I’m not tired, sister,” Xia Mingtang said, still charging into the crowd.
“But I’m a little tired,” Qin Yan said, spreading her hands.
“Oh, okay.”
They found a small shop selling cat noodles. Though tucked away and not during mealtime, several tables were still occupied.
Red and yellow lanterns hung outside, and a chubby orange plastic cat sat on the roof.
To enter, they walked a short stone path where a calico cat chased its tail—an adorable live mascot.
If her hands weren’t full, Xia Mingtang would’ve gone to pet it.
Inside, Qin Yan picked a window seat and ordered without hesitation, “Two bowls of cat noodles—one as usual, the other… Xiaohua, any dietary restrictions?”
Seeing her shake her head, the server replied knowingly, “Two bowls—one regular, one standard.”
Xia Mingtang admired the staff’s efficiency and Qin Yan’s ease, asking, “Sister, you seem familiar with this place?”
Qin Yan nodded, “The owner’s from Yucheng. She opened this noodle shop here five years ago, and it’s very popular. When I first arrived in Yun Town and struggled to adjust, I survived on these noodles.”
Of all the local specialties Qin Yan had introduced, this was the first she described as “life-saving.” Clearly, she loved this place.
Xia Mingtang looked around thoughtfully. The shop was elegantly decorated with soft beige walls, a dynamic light board explaining the noodle-making process, and a bold “Intangible Cultural Heritage” sign. Tables were made of natural wood, each with a small potted plant—a blend of tradition and tech.
She realized she liked this place too, especially the calico cat at the entrance—it was begging to be cuddled.
The noodles arrived quickly. Xia Mingtang took a bite and thought Qin Yan’s “life-saving” description wasn’t exaggerated.
Qin Yan didn’t.
