The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 25.1
Shen Zhi finally let go, resting her index finger on the corner of her lips, looking at Qin Huai with a half-smile, half-not look. Her gaze was subtly ambiguous, not like someone who had just performed a marking but rather the ambiguity after a one-night stand.
Qin Huai glanced at her and quickly looked away, spreading her hand and asking, “Where is my phone?”
“I put it away.” Shen Zhi sat down on the edge of the bed, still looking at Qin Huai with that same gaze, reminding her, “Huaihuai, have you forgotten something?”
The purpose of a nickname is to be used by close friends and intimate elders without any sense of distance, but now she was being called that by an alpha, and an underclassman at that.
Qin Huai couldn’t accept it just thinking about it. She frowned, her tone cold and husky, “Shen Zhi, you’ve overstepped.”
The omega’s expression was no longer passionate like last night. She had returned to her usual calm self, and her words instantly dispelled the lingering ambiguity.
Shen Zhi knew what was going on; this was clearly trying to create distance.
A sneer curled up at her lips. She silently gripped the soft quilt, asking, “Qin Huai, about last night”
“We both bear responsibility for last night. You don’t need to take it to heart.” Qin Huai looked down, calmly analyzing, “My heat coincided with your rut, and I was the one who asked for the temporary mark. Rationally and emotionally, you did nothing wrong. Thank you.”
Only a white quilt covered the omega’s chest. Kisses of varying depths and colors stretched across her flawless neck and continued beneath the quilt. How heartless must one be to say such cold words with a body covered in intimate marks?
Shen Zhi’s throat twitched. The hand gripping the quilt suddenly loosened. She met Qin Huai’s gaze and gave a cold laugh, looking as if she were the one who had been marked, “You haven’t taken it to heart, but I have.”
Qin Huai’s hand gripping the quilt tightened, and she looked over in confusion.
The alpha lowered her head, lifting her eyelids, “I’ve never been in a relationship. You are the first omega I’ve marked. What am I supposed to do if you don’t want me?”
This was the first time in Qin Huai’s life that she had heard an alpha ask an omega to take responsibility. She felt like laughing and crying.
Shen Zhi continued, “I know I’m young and not very considerate, only thinking about my own pleasure and not yours, but it was my first time marking someone. You have to give me some room to improve.”
The alpha’s voice became softer towards the end. Her lowered head made her look like a homeless puppy.
Qin Huai couldn’t stand her self-pitying act, so she placated her in a stern tone, “Any other omega would have told you to get lost last night.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Zhi lifted her eyes, a glimmer of light flashing within them.
Qin Huai was right. Shen Zhi was good at feigning innocence. If she hadn’t been momentarily sober during the marking last night, Qin Huai might never have known that Shen Zhi was like that in bed.
Lips rubbed against the skin, and their fingers were tightly intertwined and pressed onto the bed. When the discomfort was too much, Shen Zhi completely refused to let go, allowing Qin Huai’s nails to dig into the back of her hand.
“Do you know why I agreed to date Lin Qiu?” Qin Huai sat on the bed, her eyes distant, asking.
Qin Huai didn’t wait for Shen Zhi to answer, continuing on her own, “I met her in my first year. She pursued me for three years until my final year, when I made a mistake in Experiment One due to some personal matters and ended up on the balcony of the Perpetual Building.”
That day was the anniversary of Qin Huai’s mother’s death. Her grandparents called one after another, accusing her alpha father of his sins in a not-so-gentle tone. She had heard these things since childhood and was actually tired of them, but she still listened patiently.
The reason was simple.
Her mother was her grandparents’ only child. If even she wouldn’t listen to their grievances, who would?
Distressing emotions needed an outlet, just as a person’s body needs a venting spot through the transparent film surrounding it.
Qin Huai became that venting spot.
She stood alone on the balcony of the Perpetual Building that day. Rain splattered onto the ground. She searched for the value of her own life in the pouring rain.
It wasn’t until a worried voice sounded, breaking her contemplation, that she noticed someone else.
Qin Huai was someone who valued appearances greatly. She never allowed herself to appear disheveled in front of anyone. Her clothes had to be clean, never requiring much effort. In her current state, she absolutely couldn’t be seen.
A girl, standing behind the iron-barred door, worried that the person on the balcony was having suicidal thoughts, “Qin Huai, the rain is heavy. Come inside quickly.”
Perhaps the rare concern pried open Qin Huai’s tightly shut heart. For the first time, she voiced her question, “Am I useless? My studies are so, I can’t achieve anything with my experiments, my grandparents don’t like me, and my parents don’t want me anymore.”
The heavy rain almost drowned out all sounds. Qin Huai, with her back to the small door, didn’t see the girl leaning her ear close, trying not to miss a single sound.
“No, you’re not.” The girl’s voice was firm and strong in the heavy rain, refuting her, “I’ve seen you participate in a speech. Your ideas about omega inhibitors impressed me immensely. You are excellent, more excellent than most people. As long as you keep going, many omegas are waiting for you to develop better inhibitors.”
“Is that so? But my experiments are a mess.” After standing in the rain for so long, Qin Huai finally felt the chill.
The girl continued, “But you are truly amazing. From the first moment I saw you, I couldn’t take my eyes off you. I admire you, I revere you.”
In the heavy rain, the girl’s voice was intermittent, but Qin Huai heard it clearly.
After an unknown amount of time, Qin Huai finally recovered and said, “Can you get me some dry clothes? They’re on the first floor.”
The girl breathed a sigh of relief, her voice clearly smiling. She immediately agreed, “Okay, wait for me.”
Qin Huai still had her back to the main door. She was full of curiosity and gratitude toward the girl.
I should treat her to dinner later.
Just as Qin Huai made up her mind, the voice behind her sounded again, “I’m here. Hurry up and come back.”
Qin Huai turned around with a smile in her eyes. On the other side of the small door stood the familiar Lin Qiu, holding clothes and looking worried.
“Isn’t this the problem right in front of us?” Qin Huai finished, spreading her hands, her tone extremely serious, “I’ve known you for a shorter time than Lin Qiu. It took me a full five years to first discover her true personality. What if we are incompatible?”
The alpha lowered her head, staring at the wrinkles on the bedsheet. Her thick eyelashes concealed the look in her eyes, making it impossible to gauge her emotions.
Light spilled in through the window. Shen Zhi lifted her eyes in this ray of light. The light softened the edges of her face, making her look less like an alpha, only the turbulent pheromones on her body were expanding in waves, fierce and overwhelming.
“I understand, Xuejie.” Shen Zhi gave Qin Huai a safe distance, allowing her to stay curled up in that small corner, “But can you promise me one thing?”
Qin Huai sighed in relief, her expression relaxing, “Say it.”
Shen Zhi: “Can I still come to you during my next rut?”
Qin Huai: “???”
Regarding accompanying Shen Zhi through her next rut, Qin Huai quickly sobered up from her initial confused state and flatly refused. She put on the clothes Shen Zhi gave her, got dressed, finished washing up, and went to the living room.
The apartment layout was very bright. The two rooms were adjacent, and a dining table was set in the middle of the living room, holding a bowl of steaming millet porridge.
Shen Zhi sat at the dining table, dressed. She was holding a bun, nibbling on it, and occasionally taking a small sip of the soft rice grains, her expression full of contentment. Seeing Qin Huai come out of the bedroom, she pointed to the opposite seat and said, “I bought some food. Hurry up and eat.”
Qin Huai’s eating habits weren’t good. When busy, cold milk and crackers were enough to fill her stomach. She had arranged to meet Zhou Yue while washing up to discuss the matter of her heat, so she couldn’t stay to eat. “No need, I have something to do.”
“What’s more important than eating?” White mist drifted in front of Shen Zhi’s eyes. She took a sip and said unhurriedly.
Qin Huai felt there was no need to hide her heat amnesia from Shen Zhi. Shen Zhi was the first person she sought out when the condition flared up during her heat. If there were any changes, she needed to tell Shen Zhi so that the alpha could adjust promptly.
She walked to the entryway and crouched down to change her shoes. “I have an appointment with Dr. Zhou soon. It’s a bit urgent.”
“My mom?” Shen Zhi put down her bowl, stood up from the chair, and grabbed two buns from the table. She walked up to Qin Huai and offered the buns to her. “I’ll go with you.”
“No need.” Qin Huai refused without thinking. “You should stay home and properly go through your rut.”
An alpha’s rut typically lasted several days. During this time, to prevent affecting other alphas and omegas, they were usually confined at home.
“It won’t affect me much.” Shen Zhi wasn’t at ease with Qin Huai going alone. She finished tying her shoelaces, picked up her phone, and said, “Let’s go.”
Shen Zhi had booked a ride-share before coming downstairs. The car arrived just as they stood at the complex entrance. After they got in and fastened their seatbelts, they arrived at the hospital in about half an hour.
Same floor, same department. Qin Huai skillfully walked to the corridor of the doctor’s office. The two doors were tightly shut. Looking through the transparent glass, they could see someone sitting in front of Zhou Yue’s seat.
It must be a temporary patient.
Qin Huai had planned to wait outside for a while, but Shen Zhi was accustomed to the place. Furthermore, last night’s actions were late. Although they didn’t go all the way, the physical pleasure stimulated her to playfully tease Qin Huai relentlessly. So, she didn’t hesitate to push the door open, ready to find an empty seat for Qin Huai to sit.
The tightly closed door opened, and the conversation stopped.
Qin Huai stood still, watching the gazes of the two people at the desk. Her pupils constricted, and her thin body trembled slightly. She almost subconsciously took a step back.
The man sitting opposite Zhou Yue was an alpha. He wore glasses, and three faint lines were etched on his forehead from frequent furrowing in thought. The alpha wore a formal suit and trousers, his tie straight and sharp. He looked at Qin Huai, briefly lost in thought for a second, then asked, “What are you doing here?”
Qin Huai showed no discomfort toward the alpha’s cold attitude, as if the moment of retreat had been a brief, fleeting illusion. Shen Zhi was about to put her arm around the omega, whose arm she was holding through the soft material of the hoodie, and leave.
The man sitting there frowned, his expression turning gloomy, “You’re getting less and less disciplined. Aren’t you going to greet me?”
The alpha’s face was stern and solemn. His voice was commanding and oppressive, causing the atmosphere in the entire office to almost freeze.
Shen Zhi took a small step forward, ready to shield Qin Huai, but Qin Huai’s hand grabbed her wrist, stopping her movement.
Qin Huai’s thin body straightened under the alpha’s scrutiny. She met his gaze without any retreat and said a title: “Dad.”
Not only Shen Zhi but even Zhou Yue was stunned.
Qin Zhijing finished talking with Zhou Yue and stood up from the chair. The alpha had an authoritative aura, the kind accumulated from countless grand occasions and numerous flatteries.
“We’ll talk about the rest next time,” Qin Zhijing told Zhou Yue, “I’m leaving now.”
Zhou Yue hadn’t fully recovered from the surprise that Qin Huai was the daughter of her long-time friend. Qin Zhijing had already walked up to Qin Huai.
Then, he walked past Qin Huai’s shoulder without even looking at her.
The sound of his footsteps slowly faded away. Qin Huai’s tense muscles finally relaxed. She slowly exhaled and walked up to Zhou Yue’s desk, completely unwilling to mention the previous event, saying, “Dr. Zhou, I have a new discovery today.”
Having witnessed the interaction between the father and daughter, Zhou Yue felt something was amiss but didn’t press for details. She curved her lips into a gentle smile and asked, “What discovery?”
Qin Huai sat in the chair Qin Zhijing had just occupied, leaning forward, her hands tightly clasped on the desktop. “If I am temporarily marked by an alpha during my heat, I will fully wake up afterward, although my body feels very uncomfortable.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Zhi, standing nearby, slightly stiffened. She recalled the words she had tried to teach Qin Huai to recite on the podium last night, but no matter how she coaxed her, the omega refused to open her mouth.
Zhou Yue subtly glanced at the stunned Shen Zhi standing to the side, immediately understanding what had happened. Slap! She slammed her hand on the table and stood up from her chair, picking up the case file on the table and throwing it at Shen Zhi. “How do I usually teach you at home? Is this the answer you give me?”
The file hit Shen Zhi’s shoulder and then fell to the ground.
Shen Zhi stood there without flinching, letting her mother vent.
“Did you take my words as just background noise? If you like someone, why don’t you honestly pursue them instead of resorting to such devious means?” Zhou Yue’s normally easy going demeanor was completely gone, driven away by her daughter’s infuriating behavior. She picked up the water cup on the table, preparing to throw it.
Even the calm Qin Huai was startled. She stood up from the chair, shielding the alpha with her arm, firmly protecting her behind her. “Professor Zhou, please calm down first.”
Zhou Yue’s breath caught in her chest, unable to go up or down. She was frustrated with her daughter’s lack of ambition and angry at herself for lax discipline. She grasped the desk with her right hand, barely stabilizing herself. Her tone softened slightly when she faced Qin Huai, “Huaihuai, please move aside. I must properly discipline her today.”
Qin Huai stood in front of Shen Zhi, showing no intention of moving.
Zhou Yue was also an omega. She knew how important the scent gland was to an omega and how harmful scent-cleansing surgery could be. Precisely because she knew this, she couldn’t tolerate Shen Zhi’s behavior.
An alpha who couldn’t even control her instinct during her rut what else could she do?
Zhou Yue’s cheeks were flushed with anger. She pointed at Shen Zhi, “Get out here, now.”
The alpha knew she was in the wrong and began to move sideways, trying to step out from behind the omega’s protection.
The moment her foot moved, the omega in front of her reached out a hand and grabbed her arm, stopping her action.
Qin Huai lifted her eyes to look at Zhou Yue, separated by a desk. If the glass was thrown, it would undoubtedly leave blood on Shen Zhi. The marking had nothing to do with Shen Zhi. Qin Huai was the one who had spoken up to Shen Zhi first.
Qin Huai met Zhou Yue’s gaze, firmly shielding the alpha behind her. Her tone was measured and firm, “I was the one who asked Shen Zhi to mark me.”
Zhou Yue: “???”
Qin Huai took all the blame, “My heat triggered Shen Zhi’s rut. Everything is my fault. If you want to get angry, get angry at me.”
Of course, Zhou Yue couldn’t get angry at Qin Huai. Her own daughter was an alpha; if anyone was going to suffer, it would be Qin Huai. Moreover, Qin Huai was the daughter of her long-time friend. Rationally and emotionally, she couldn’t be shamelessly biased toward Shen Zhi.
Hearing that the omega was willing, Zhou Yue visibly relaxed. She tightened her grip on the cup and asked, “Then what is your relationship now?”
Zhou Yue was essentially asking Qin Huai, giving all the initiative to her. If Qin Huai showed any reluctance, Zhou Yue would naturally not let Shen Zhi off the hook.
Qin Huai braced herself, meeting Zhou Yue’s gaze. The oversized hoodie made her body appear slender. Her indifferent eyelids lifted, and she said, “We have no relationship.”
Zhou Yue frowned, looking over in disbelief.
Qin Huai had her back to the alpha and couldn’t see Shen Zhi squinting, her narrow eyes filled with danger. The omega’s tone was cold and indifferent, calmly repeating the actions of a machine, “We have no relationship whatsoever.
