The White Moonlight is So Scheming - Chapter 20
Before long,
the members of the club had scattered in all directions.
Only Shen Juexia, who hadn’t been assigned any tasks, and Ji Zhijie, who had already memorized her lines, remained in their original spots.
Damn Ji Zhijie.
She was giving her that stinky face again!
Taking a deep breath,
Shen Juexia adjusted her breathing, dragged her chair over, and hesitantly sat down next to Ji Zhijie. Carefully, she spoke, “Ji Zhijie, I’m sorry.”
How ridiculous, she wasn’t a child.
If she wanted to stay with Liu Yurou, she could just stay with her. Why did she have to apologize to her?
With a detached gaze, Ji Zhijie turned her head slightly to look at Shen Juexia and said coolly, “Why are you apologizing? Do you need something?”
Ahhhh!!!
If it weren’t for… she really wanted to punch Ji Zhijie in the face.
No.
That face looked so much like her sister’s, better to just kick her in the butt instead!
When Shen Juexia didn’t respond for a while, Ji Zhijie said with an unreadable expression, “If you have nothing to say, then move away. You’re blocking the light.”
The light?!
How was she blocking any light?!
Her hands, hanging at her sides, clenched into fists.
Forcing a stiff smile, Shen Juexia’s lips twitched. “I just wanted to be friends with you, so I approached you. I didn’t know before that you don’t like being disturbed. I won’t keep bothering you in the future, okay? Please don’t hate me.”
She blurted out the lines in one go.
Shen Juexia almost wanted to give herself full marks for her acting but when she looked up, she found that Ji Zhijie’s expression had actually darkened even further!
Frowning deeply, Ji Zhijie fixed Shen Juexia with an intense stare and enunciated each word, “I hate you? Who told you that? Did I say it to you myself?”
Startled by her gaze,
Shen Juexia bit her lip lightly and obediently shook her head, not betraying Liu Yurou.
“I’ve told you many times, stop making assumptions on your own.” Pausing for a moment, Ji Zhijie turned her face away and muttered in a voice so quiet it was almost inaudible, “I don’t find you annoying.”
Nodding like a chick pecking at rice,
Shen Juexia looked like a well-behaved student paying attention in class.
Ji Zhijie’s gaze flickered over Shen Juexia’s lips, and she added casually, “By the way, if you keep biting your lip like that, it’s going to bleed.”
“Mm-hmm.” Shen Juexia responded twice, stopping the lip-biting but still staring at her with wide, beautiful eyes, timid and unsure.
Even though she knew Shen Juexia was just pretending to be obedient,
but…
Raising a hand to pinch the bridge of her nose, Ji Zhijie sighed and asked helplessly, “Why did you suddenly follow Liu Yurou to the drama club?”
“I didn’t follow her here.”
This time, Shen Juexia wasn’t lying.
Ji Zhijie’s cold expression nearly faltered. She coughed lightly and asked knowingly, “Is that so? Then tell me, why did you really come to the drama club?”
“Because of you.”
Though she had simply stated the reason,
for some reason, Shen Juexia felt as if the atmosphere around them had instantly lightened.
Hearing an answer that satisfied her,
the gloom in Ji Zhijie’s eyes gradually faded. Tapping her fingers rhythmically against her wrist, she said offhandedly, “All the roles have already been assigned. Now that you’re joining out of the blue, who knows what the club president will have you do.”
Hiding in the corner all along, sneaking glances at them, Mu Xue immediately jumped out when she heard Ji Zhijie say that. “No, no! The female lead, I still need a female lead!”
Turning her head slightly to look at Mu Xue, whose eyes were shining brightly, Ji Zhijie asked, “Where did you pop out from? Weren’t you supposed to be studying the script? Why did you suddenly come over?”
With a mischievous grin at Ji Zhijie, Mu Xue turned around and cupped Shen Juexia’s hands in hers. “Juexia, opportunities like this don’t come often. This is your chance to be the female lead!”
But the problem was she didn’t want to be the female lead at all.
Leaning back slightly, Shen Juexia pressed down on Mu Xue’s hands and firmly pulled her own hands free. “It’s fine. Some opportunities are better left alone.”
“Don’t say that! You’re practically Ji Zhijie’s destined female lead.”
“Cough, cough, cough!”
Ji Zhijie, who happened to be drinking water at that moment, choked and couldn’t speak. She tightly gripped her thermos, unsure whether to put it down or screw the lid back on.
Assuming Ji Zhijie was throwing another tantrum, Mu Xue turned back and spoke earnestly, “Ji Zhijie, trust me. If you and Juexia perform together on stage, our drama club will definitely make it to the podium this time.”
The drama club was not only small in numbers, but its members also loved slacking off.
Every time they participated in events, they only managed to win consolation prizes though even those came with a decent sum of 30,000 to 50,000, which was still a considerable amount when split among everyone.
“You’re saying that if Shen Juexia and I perform together, the drama club will definitely make it to the top three?” Ji Zhijie raised an eyebrow, her eyes clearly spelling out four words keep making it up.
Looking between them, Shen Juexia voiced her confusion. “What’s the difference between making it to the podium or not?”
Mu Xue rubbed her hands excitedly. “There’s a trophy!”
Ji Zhijie said matter-of-factly, “The prize money is bigger.”
A sudden idea struck.
Shen Juexia’s dark, almond-shaped eyes rolled playfully as she leaned slightly toward Ji Zhijie, covering her mouth with her hand and whispering, “Actually, I have a lot of money. Do you want some?”
“…” Ji Zhijie’s shoulders visibly stiffened for a moment.
Her usually cool and composed phoenix eyes flickered with panic.
Her ears instantly grew hot as she flusteredly pushed Shen Juexia away. “What kind of person do you take me for?”
Staring at her quietly, Shen Juexia pouted, looking aggrieved. “I thought you’d like it.”
“I don’t like—ugh, whatever. I’ll figure it out myself.” Ji Zhijie’s voice gradually trailed off, unable to explain the strange emotions swirling inside her.
“Fine.” Shen Juexia pursed her lips and puffed out her cheeks.
Like a hunting dog in the forest with the keenest nose for gossip,
Mu Xue caught the unusual scent in the air.
Her gaze toward Ji Zhijie instantly took on a different tone as she hinted meaningfully, “No wonder you said those words as soon as you walked in earlier. Did you two have a fight before?”
Shen Juexia’s sixth sense told her this was related to her. “What?”
“It’s nothing much. It’s just that this afternoon, when Ji Zhijie walked into the club room—mmph!” Mu Xue’s mouth was suddenly covered by Ji Zhijie, but her eyes showed no surprise only triumph.
Locking eyes with Mu Xue, Ji Zhijie shot her a warning glare.
Only then did she slowly release her.
“What kind of riddle are you two playing at?” Shen Juexia, who had witnessed the entire exchange, asked curiously.
Having secured leverage over Ji Zhijie, Mu Xue adjusted her collar and casually remarked, “When Ji Zhijie walked in this afternoon, she told everyone how much she wanted you to be her leading lady and that her leading lady could only be you.”
