The White Moonlight is So Scheming - Chapter 14
The heat of the bright day was separated by glass.
The night sky was devoid of twinkling stars, only heavy, dull clouds hung above.
She liked to set the air conditioning very low.
Then she would curl herself up in a thick blanket.
Wrapped in a bath towel, she emerged from the bathroom, the cold air hitting her body made Shen Juexia slightly hunch her
shoulders.
Setting up the hairdryer, Shen Juexia picked up her phone from the bedside table, opening WeChat while simultaneously turning on
the hairdryer.
“When I study at night, I usually don’t check my phone.”
Ji Zhijie only replied with that one message, not addressing any of her questions, effectively shutting down the conversation.
Tilting her head, Shen Juexia gently played with her damp hair, pondering how she should respond to Ji Zhijie.
It wasn’t until her hair was half-dry that she still hadn’t figured out what to say. After all, she was not usually the one to initiate conversations.
“Don’t you like replying to my messages?”
Her phone vibrated in her pocket, and under the streetlight, Ji Zhijie paused to take it out, raising an eyebrow.
“Why do you say that?”
Turning off the hairdryer.
Shen Juexia simply tied the ends of her hair with a ribbon, deliberately waiting a few minutes before replying with feigned
modesty: “I thought you saying you don’t check your phone during study time was just an excuse to ignore me.”
Opening the emoji section, Shen Juexia sent a sticker of a little rabbit with its paws on its chest, puffing its cheeks, and
stomping its feet.
“I don’t want to ignore you.”
“Then why don’t you answer my questions?”
Holding her phone with both hands, Shen Juexia typed rapidly, and almost the moment she sent the message, Ji Zhijie received her
reply.
“Too many.”
So many random questions; what’s your favorite color, what do you like to eat, who’s your favorite singer, what weather do you
dislike the most…
A bunch of boring and meaningless questions, and she kept going on and on.
If she hadn’t known that there was a real person on the other side, Ji Zhijie might have mistaken her for some AI chat assistant.
“So, you still find me annoying?”
The accompanying image was of a little rabbit wiping its tears, with red eyes.
For some reason.
It was just a cute sticker, but the image that floated in Ji Zhijie’s mind was of Shen Juexia making that gesture.
“You ask too many questions.”
“There are many that I’m not even sure about myself, that’s why I didn’t reply to you.”
“I don’t find you annoying.”
Seeing that there was still no reply from the other side, Ji Zhijie cautiously asked, “You’re not really crying, are you?”
“It’s okay, I understand everything.” Accompanied by a sticker of a little rabbit crying loudly, Shen Juexia added, “Don’t worry,
I’ll cry very quietly, I won’t disturb you (っд`)”
But in reality…
With a moisturizing mask on her face, lounging against the headboard, her tablet propped on her knees, Shen Juexia was watching her
favorite variety show.
“Fifteen minutes are up!”
“Beautiful Shen Juexia can take off her mask now~” The custom alarm on her phone rang, and Shen Juexia turned it off, glancing at
WeChat.
Hmm…
Ji Zhijie hadn’t replied to her again.
Forget it, haste makes waste.
This matter wasn’t urgent; there would be plenty of time later!
Stretching lazily, Shen Juexia peeled off the mask, washed her face thoroughly, and carefully took care of her skin.
Finally, she put on a steam eye mask.
She pressed the light switch by the head of her bed.
–
The next morning, just as dawn was breaking.
The birds on the branches hadn’t woken up yet, and the bed-loving Shen Juexia was already stumbling down the stairs.
“Second Miss?!” Yelling through a yawn, Liu Ma emerged from her room, and upon seeing Shen Juexia with her hair down, she gasped,
holding her breath.
Liu Ma hunched over, coughed for a while, then asked with concern, “Why are you up so early, Miss? Are you hungry?”
Rubbing her eyes, Shen Juexia pointed towards the kitchen, “Today I want to make breakfast myself.”
Although she didn’t know how to please someone.
But there were plenty of tutorials online, which said: as long as you follow the right methods, no matter how aloof a girl is, she
will eventually change her attitude towards you.
To win someone’s heart.
You must first win over their stomach.
When she saw this, Shen Juexia immediately noted it down in her memo; indeed—every delicious restaurant would linger in her mind.
Lunch and dinner were too difficult.
But making a simple breakfast, Shen Juexia was quite confident.
“Ah?” Liu Ma opened her mouth wide, wanting to stop her but unsure how to express it, finally stammering, “What do you want to make
for breakfast, Miss?”
Shen Juexia’s principle was:
Even if it’s difficult for others, she wouldn’t make it hard for herself.
Cooking for Ji Zhijie was just to win her favor, and she didn’t genuinely want to become a cook in her house.
After a moment of thought, Shen Juexia rubbed her fingers and tilted her head to look at Liu Ma, “What’s the simplest thing?”
“Miss! You haven’t turned on the stove!”
“Miss, that’s sugar!”
“Miss… how about I do it instead?”
After more than an hour of fussing, finally a surviving sandwich appeared.
The bacon was successfully cooked, the fried egg and lettuce didn’t look too gruesome, and although the toast was slightly burnt,
it was still presentable.
Knowing that Shen Juexia just wanted to make breakfast for her new friend, and seeing that time was running out, Liu Ma
volunteered, “Miss, how about I prepare yours instead?”
Pressing her lips together, Shen Juexia considered, “That’s fine, but don’t make it too good; just use the ingredients I used
earlier.”
“Okay!” Seeing Shen Juexia agree, Liu Ma immediately felt relieved.
Liu Ma actually had her own motives.
The young lady’s stomach wasn’t very good; if she ate something she made herself.
As for the young lady’s classmate, well, they could only fend for themselves; after all, if a classmate got sick, Mr. Shen wouldn’t
go into a rage.
“Alright, I’ll go change clothes upstairs, thank you.” Patting Liu Ma on the shoulder, Shen Juexia glanced at the sandwich in the
lunchbox and confidently walked out of the kitchen.
After changing into her school uniform, Shen Juexia picked up her phone from the bedside table to check the time only to find that
she had received dozens of messages on WeChat.
“Green.”
“Stir-fried eggs with green peppers.”
“I don’t have a favorite singer.”
“I dislike rainy days.”
“I like cats, and rabbits seem pretty nice too.”
“I tested as ISTJ.”
…
Staring intently at the screen, Shen Juexia scrolled down through the messages, the timestamp of the last message was even past
midnight.
She hadn’t expected Ji Zhijie to take her every question so seriously, answering each one she had casually asked.
Confusion and excitement.
Intertwined, entangled.
Shen Juexia didn’t understand.
Ji Zhijie clearly didn’t like her; why would she stay up late answering all her questions?
What a strange person.
