The White Moonlight is Both Competitive and Predatory - Chapter 15
“Baby, who are you talking to on the phone?”
“…”
Yan Chi attempted to resist.
Yan Chi’s resistance failed.
Yan Chi surrendered.
Triumphant, Ji Yueting held him securely and carried him downstairs, only setting him down when they reached the refrigerator.
As Yan Chi was about to step onto the floor, Ji Yueting gripped his calf and pointed to his own shoes. “Step here, the floor is cold.”
How considerate.
Yan Chi silently stepped onto his shoes.
He opened the refrigerator, rummaged through the array of items, and pulled out the bag of nutritional supplements. Casually, he asked, “Ji Yueting, am I heavy stepping on you like this?”
Ji Yueting didn’t answer. Instead, he bent down, lifted Yan Chi, and set him back down.
He repeated the action twice.
“?” Yan Chi was baffled. What did that mean?
“You’re so light. I could carry you while doing many things,” Ji Yueting translated for himself.
Yan Chi fell into an even deeper silence.
He sincerely hoped Ji Yueting wouldn’t remember any of this when he woke up. Otherwise, whether they could remain friends was anyone’s guess.
Well, no point worrying about the future. Better focus on the present.
“The bag still needs to be opened, and I have to get a cup from over there,” Yan Chi said.
“Then go.”
“But I don’t have shoes.”
“You can step on me.”
“Ji Yueting, that’s inconvenient, and it’ll hurt you after a while,” Yan Chi patiently explained. “Even if you think I’m not heavy, I’m still an adult. I’m not that light, understand?”
The alpha didn’t want to understand, but Yan Chi pinched his arm to urge him, so he had no choice.
“Oh,” Ji Yueting grumbled, annoyed that his partner refused to stay obediently by his side. “Then what should we do?”
“You can go find me a pair of shoes that fit, or I can go myself. Either works,” Yan Chi said. “I promise, I really won’t run away. I swear!”
He couldn’t fully grasp the alpha’s sense of insecurity, so he did his best to reassure him.
As for Ji Yueting he decisively chose “or” in the “A or B” dilemma.
Without another word, Ji Yueting scooped Yan Chi up and strode to the entrance. He placed Yan Chi on the raised platform by the door, quickly dug out a pair of shoes, and knelt down to slip them onto Yan Chi’s feet, gripping his ankles firmly.
Yan Chi’s usual manners wouldn’t allow him to watch Ji Yueting do such things, but the alpha moved too fast, leaving him no time to refuse.
Not that refusing would have made a difference.
“Why are you so thin here too?” Ji Yueting’s hand loosely encircled Yan Chi’s ankle, his thumb and forefinger framing the prominent bone. “You haven’t been taking care of yourself.”
Half-suspended in the air, Yan Chi shifted uncomfortably. “That’s not true. Let go, please.”
“Okay.” Ji Yueting obediently released him, making sure not to let his fingers linger.
Finally granted the freedom to walk, Yan Chi breathed a sigh of relief. But then his gaze drifted downward, catching sight of Ji Yueting’s increasingly noticeable condition.
Why hasn’t it changed at all? Is that normal?
“What are you looking at, baby?” Ji Yueting’s senses were sharp.
Yan Chi pursed his lips, turned away, pretending he hadn’t seen anything, and started walking.
But Ji Yueting followed closely, sticking to him as if glued. The scorching heat radiated from behind, enveloping Yan Chi, who occasionally brushed against it. His already low tolerance was nearing its limit.
Finally.
“Ji Yueting,” Yan Chi stopped walking, “can you go take care of it yourself? You know what I’m talking about. Don’t pretend you don’t understand.”
Just over ten minutes ago, the alpha had seemed a bit slow-witted, but now, seeing the beta’s flustered expression, he regained some of his usual sharpness. He lowered his gaze and asked, “Then if I do it, will there be a reward?”
Yan Chi was surprisingly accommodating, willing to negotiate. “What reward do you want?”
Ji Yueting dropped a bombshell: “You and I do it.”
“…”
Thinking he hadn’t heard clearly, Ji Yueting repeated, “We do it.”
“Absolutely not!!” Yan Chi refused, his face flushed red. Alphas in their rut were definitely not normal.
Ji Yueting compromised: “Take off the muzzle.”
“That’s not allowed either!” Yan Chi hesitated for a moment before shaking his head again.
The muzzle was the last line of defense restraining an alpha during their rut. No one knew what would happen if it were removed, and Yan Chi naturally wasn’t willing to take that risk.
Ji Yueting fell silent, his eyes downcast. After a long pause, he spoke again: “Then kiss me.”
“Not even this baby?”
If any other alpha, standing at 190 centimeters, had tried to act cute in front of him, Yan Chi would have turned and walked away without batting an eye. But now, with Ji Yueting as the subject, the situation became special.
Yan Chi’s mind was in turmoil. He thought, even though Ji Yueting asked for a kiss, he didn’t specify where. Among all the unacceptable conditions, this one was relatively easier to handle. Maybe he should just go with it.
Just make do with it!
“Fine, that’s it.”
The two reached an agreement. Yan Chi wiped the sweat from the side of his ear, while Ji Yueting headed upstairs, looking back every few steps.
Seeing that he had finally left, Yan Chi went into the kitchen to find a cup for the nutrient supplement. He had never dealt with this stuff before, but fortunately, each packet came with instructions, making it not too difficult.
The instructions read: [During an alpha’s rut, one packet must be consumed daily. Note: The inhibitor can only be administered after the nutrient supplement has been fully taken.]
Ruts were such a hassle. Betas were better even if they couldn’t sense pheromones and seemed ordinary and plain, at least they weren’t troubled by ruts or heats.
Yan Chi thought about this and found it deeply reasonable.
However, if anyone were to evaluate him now, this young man leaning against the kitchen island, with features as delicate as a painting and a slender figure, would have nothing to do with the words “ordinary” or “plain” in fact, he was far from it.
His pocket vibrated, and Yan Chi took out his phone.
“Unknown caller?”
What was going on today? One after another, people were contacting him so late.
Yan Chi answered, “Who is this?”
“Hello, is this Mr. Yan? I apologize for disturbing you so late. I’m Mr. Ji’s assistant. You can call me Xiao Xu.”
Yan Chi was taken aback. “Is there something you need from me?”
“It’s like this. Mr. Ji’s condition during his rut is often unstable. To prevent any loss of control during this period from causing damage, there are usually dedicated personnel monitoring his physical data, message activity, and residential access. I know this sounds intrusive, but please rest assured, all of this was personally decided by Mr. Ji.” Assistant Xu explained calmly and methodically.
“So you know he sent me a message, and you know I came here?” Yan Chi was surprised.
“Yes, due to our oversight, the message wasn’t retracted in time, and we failed to notify you promptly about Mr. Ji’s condition. You may have been frightened, and I apologize for that,” Assistant Xu said.
Yan Chiping replied calmly, “There’s no need to apologize. The decision to come was my own, unrelated to anyone else. Besides, Ji Yueting didn’t scare me he’s quite reasonable.”
He truly was someone who did exactly as he was told. Yan Chi had never encountered such a compliant alpha before. Aside from being a bit clingy, Ji Yueting hadn’t done anything excessive.
“…” Assistant Xu paused briefly. “Indeed, the data shows that after your arrival at the villa, all of Mr. Ji’s metrics improved significantly. You thank you for your help.”
Yan Chi was puzzled. He hadn’t done much, so why was Assistant Xu suddenly thanking him?
Sensing Yan Chi’s confusion, Assistant Xu subtly shifted the topic, leaving the unspoken words unsaid.
After all, in the past, every time Ji Yueting went through his rut, it was a grand spectacle. The entire team would be thrown into chaos, scrambling helplessly. They had called for ambulances, fire trucks, and even the police. By the time the rut ended, the room would often be left in shambles, with only broken fragments waiting to be cleaned up.
If that was how he treated inanimate objects, one could only imagine what would happen to an intruder.
When a high-level alpha unleashed his most potent pheromones, they would converge like a crushing weight, pressing down inch by inch against the intruder’s bones, making it impossible to stand upright or even crawl, often causing them to lose consciousness on the spot.
But now, the situation was clearly different.
Times had changed, it seemed.
Over the next few minutes, Assistant Xu spoke with sincere earnestness, every word a plea for Yan Chi to stay. His tone was a blend of subtlety and directness, restraint and eloquence, polite and heartfelt. Drawing upon all his talent and professional expertise, he tried to persuade Yan Chi to look after his boss a little longer.
After a brief negotiation, Yan Chi happily agreed to leave the following morning.
Ji Yueting during his rut was pitiful in a way. As a friend, taking care of him for one more night shouldn’t be a big deal, right?
Just as he found the straw, Yan Chi smiled and bid farewell to Assistant Xu before hanging up.
But before he could slip his phone back into his pocket, a sudden tug came from behind.
“Ah!” Yan Chi gasped, turning around in surprise.
A familiar warmth, accompanied by a damp mist, washed over him. In his line of sight, he caught Ji Yueting gripping the two white straps on the back of his shirt, bare-chested, water droplets tracing the contours of his muscles.
On that sharp, handsome face, there was a brooding expression.
“Baby, who were you talking to?”
