The White Moonlight I Chased, the Divorce I Never Expected - Chapter 47
“You can have whatever you want.”
Chi Yi always said that to her.
After a long silence, Wen Ranqing lifted her head, drawing a bit of certainty from those beautiful, expressive eyes.
Her slender fingertips gently poked at Chi Yi’s chest. “Xiao Yi… you can’t have any other kittens.”
She wished she were the only one who lived here…
As she spoke, Wen Ranqing’s lashes lowered slightly. Emotions brimmed in her eyes, almost to the point of spilling over, but she didn’t dare let Chi Yi see the selfishness that had suddenly taken root in her heart.
Carefully, tenderly, she peeled open Chi Yi’s robe and pressed a kiss over her soft heart — sincere and devout.
Her cat ears drooped slightly. Lace traced a seductive pattern along her fair neck. Chi Yi reached out and adjusted them absentmindedly, staring at her with a gaze filled with heat.
She didn’t know why, but sometimes, Chi Yi felt a strange sensation — she couldn’t quite describe it. Just… Wen Ranqing really, truly liked her, gave freely and unreservedly, to the point of losing herself entirely in front of her.
Chi Yi was finding it harder and harder to imagine that such passionate, genuine affection had ever been given to someone else.
She’d once told herself it didn’t matter. But now, some small part of her regretted it — though more than regret, it was disbelief.
There was also a hint of jealousy, irrational and sharp.
Someone as wonderful as Wen Ranqing… who could she have loved but failed to attain?
A faint image surfaced in Chi Yi’s mind — the small photo Wen Ranqing used to carry with her everywhere. She’d never had the chance to see it clearly. She vaguely remembered it was a rather ordinary-looking girl in a princess dress, probably captured mid-play…
Then, a warm kiss landed on her chest, and all thought stopped. Her mind blanked. She glanced down to see the delicate features half-hidden beneath slightly messy strands of hair. Wen Ranqing’s nose was flushed red, and her eyes shimmered with a soft, rosy hue.
Chi Yi’s heart melted all over again.
Uncontrollably, her long fingers slid into Ranqing’s hair as she cupped her face and kissed her deeply.
Wen Ranqing was completely immersed in the tender kiss. She unconsciously straightened her back, as if trying to make it easier for Chi Yi to kiss her without leaning down — but quickly softened again, tilting her face up to receive the kiss with no strength to resist.
“Xiao Yi…”
After the kiss, Wen Ranqing gently pressed her lips together. She blinked her watery eyes at Chi Yi, for once holding her gaze even in such a vulnerable moment.
Chi Yi still hadn’t told her whether her wish could come true…
Although Chi Yi always made her feel safe, someone as exceptional as her must surely be admired by many others.
A faint blush crept across Chi Yi’s handsome, refined features. She kept the same posture as moments before, her gaze warm. Though rational, her mind was replaying everything that had happened between them these past few years.
She and Wen Ranqing had never broken any laws, never betrayed anyone, never crossed moral boundaries. From start to finish, they were clean. The only mess was emotional.
What the world had to say was its own business. Most of the commentary wasn’t even negative. And lately, for reasons unknown, much of it had died down. Wen Corporation’s legal department had also started to issue formal statements against inappropriate remarks about Wen Ranqing.
Even during their wedding, cold as Chi Yi could be, she never allowed Wen Ranqing to suffer. Now that they were truly together, she would allow it even less.
If any of those comments had hurt Ranqing, she would take care of them herself.
But what concerned her most was Chi Zhong’s stance…
Chi Yi couldn’t help thinking about it.
She really wanted to give Wen Ranqing — or be given by her — a proper place, a name, something official. But everything had happened so quickly. It had only been a week since they truly got together. Neither of them had time to deal with it all.
Wen Ranqing always made her feel like she was her entire world. This happiness… it felt almost unreal, like a dream too perfect to touch.
The thought flickered through her mind. Then she was pulled back by Wen Ranqing’s slightly anxious, glistening eyes — eyes filled with raw, honest emotion.
To keep doubting would be ridiculous.
What had Wen Ranqing asked just now… no other kittens?
Only now did Chi Yi have a moment to process her words.
“Where would I get another kitten?” Chi Yi asked with a smile.
The seductive, intoxicating scene from earlier still lingered in her mind. Her burning fingers hooked lightly around the tie of the woman’s nightgown, desire stirring restlessly in her chest.
“Isn’t having a kitten like you at home more than enough for me to handle?”
Before Wen Ranqing could respond with “there’s one on your phone,” Chi Yi leaned in and kissed her gently on the forehead. Her voice was low and alluring:
“You’re the only kitten I have. Don’t let your mind run wild.”
Wen Ranqing bit her lip. She believed every word Chi Yi said — but still…
After a while, just as Chi Yi’s hand moved with intent to adjust her robe, Wen Ranqing pressed her hand against hers. The outer layer of her sleepwear slipped off, but she didn’t bother picking it up. Her eyes shimmered with a hint of grievance.
Being this close, there was no way Chi Yi couldn’t feel her emotions. Those long, fair hands trembled ever so slightly, her heart pounding fast.
Wen Ranqing tilted her chin upward.
They hadn’t done anything all night, just held each other — yet her heartbeat had never calmed, and her body felt weak and feverish.
Her legs had gone slightly numb from not moving, so she shifted a little, clutching the hem of Chi Yi’s robe. Her voice trembled as she whispered her name:
“Xiao Yi…”
Years of love had finally come true overnight. She still couldn’t believe it — and feared it might not be real.
Only when she was surrounded by the scent of Chi Yi’s pheromones did she feel like she was truly her partner, that they really were together.
It wasn’t that Chi Yi hadn’t given her enough of a sense of security — it was just that her emotions had been suppressed for so long. Her longing for Chi Yi had only grown stronger.
“Mm, I’m here.”
Chi Yi wrapped her arms around her through the fabric, her gaze falling on the fragile gland that was now calm outside of heat. She spoke frankly:
“My dad is still struggling to accept this. I’m afraid he won’t agree — he might think I’m being too impulsive and oppose us being together.”
“I want to take responsibility — for you, for our relationship.”
It wasn’t just about Chi Zhong’s approval.
Chi Yi even hoped that in the public statements issued by Wen Corporation, her name would be listed alongside Wen Ranqing’s. She wanted everyone to know.
Having grown used to being the one in control, she instinctively felt she should shoulder more of the burden. And she wasn’t used to revealing all her messy, uncertain thoughts in front of Wen Ranqing.
Wen Ranqing trembled slightly. She looked at Chi Yi’s shoulder for a long moment, then weakly leaned back just a little, her waist still limp in her embrace. Her voice was soft:
“I’m sorry… I didn’t know you were thinking about all this.”
“Can we work through these things together?”
Her Xiao Yi was a girl too, after all.
She had her moments of vulnerability and helplessness. In the past, she used to crawl into her bed at night asking for cuddles. Now it was usually Chi Yi holding her.
But Wen Ranqing knew: Chi Yi’s gentle attentiveness, her delicate sensitivity — those had never changed. Her love for women ran bone-deep.
Her voice was tremulous, almost inaudible, but full of comfort. Chi Yi buried her face in the curve of her fragrant neck.
This feeling — of being able to lean on Wen Ranqing — was completely new.
And after allowing herself to experience it for a while, she gradually relaxed, and after a long pause, softly responded:
“Mm.”
Wen Ranqing’s eyes lit up with a hint of a smile.
The desire wrapped around her didn’t lessen in the slightest — if anything, her yearning for Chi Yi’s affection only deepened.
Biting her lip, cheeks flushed, she couldn’t help but lean closer, her apology whispered on a breath:
“Xiao Yi… I’m sorry…”
Only Wen Ranqing knew: her entire being — heart, body, and soul — had long since belonged to Chi Yi.
Whether Chi Yi wanted her or not, whether she could take responsibility afterward or not — she was still hers.
Now that she understood Chi Yi did want her and was simply holding back — it was impossible to resist anymore.
Wen Ranqing would never force her.
She deeply respected Chi Yi’s thoughts. And if Chi Yi wanted to take the initiative… she could wait.
But that didn’t mean she wouldn’t express her own longing.
Chi Yi was shaken by her words — a powerful jolt of emotion — but quickly understood.
Her own restraint had already driven her to a breaking point. Now she finally understood just how much Wen Ranqing was enduring too.
Chi Yi carried her to the bathroom. During the walk, the girl in her arms had already closed her eyes and fallen sound asleep, her breath warm and soft.
By the time Wen Ranqing opened her eyes again, it was already close to 4 p.m. the next day. Her complexion was nothing like the night before—now tinged with a healthy, rosy hue that only comes from a deep, restful sleep.
The first thing she heard was a familiar voice near her ear:
“Awake?”
Chi Yi’s gaze was gentle as she tucked Wen Ranqing’s loose strands behind her ear. Her lips curved slightly:
“You’ve slept for so long—are you hungry? Want some water first?”
Wen Ranqing blinked innocently, peach blossom eyes wide. For a moment, she drew a blank on what happened last night—then her cheeks flushed with embarrassment and helplessness.
Had she… passed out from sleep last night? She still had so much she wanted to say. It was still Chi Yi’s birthday, and she’d fallen asleep before it even ended.
Her fingertips tightened unconsciously, paying no mind to how her body felt. She bit her lip and pulled the blanket over her face, too shy to face her.
Chi Yi clearly understood her thoughts. With practiced ease, she caught the edge of the blanket and gently pulled her into her arms.
“Xiao Yi~” Wen Ranqing murmured, burying her face into Chi Yi’s shoulder.
“It’s too late to act cute now.”
Chi Yi reached to the bedside and picked up the outer robe she had prepared earlier. Her tone cooled slightly.
If Wen Ranqing had woken even by noon, she would’ve gladly stayed in bed with her a while longer. But now it was nearly dinner time. If they didn’t eat soon, their stomachs might start protesting.
The girl’s body gave off a faint, cool fragrance. Wen Ranqing’s ears were red with shame. She whispered, “What time is it?”
“Four o’clock.”
Wen Ranqing realized she’d slept far too long—longer than she expected. She immediately turned to Chi Yi, her face full of guilt.
They were supposed to go out and see the lanterns. At this time, rushing the schedule would only make everything feel hurried and less enjoyable.
It was their first real date—something they had looked forward to. And she had fallen short.
But the moment she looked up, she was met with eyes so soft, all her worry melted away.
“You were tired from work. You needed the rest.”
“You can see the Mo’er River right from here. If you’re still tired, let’s just stay in, alright?”
Her gentle suggestion was like honey, warm and soothing. Wen Ranqing nodded with a blush, then stole a quick kiss on Chi Yi’s chin, looking up at her intently.
Chi Yi took Wen Ranqing’s shawl and helped her put it on. “Let’s eat first.”
“The Chinese food at this hotel isn’t bad. But if you don’t have much of an appetite, I’ll go grab some light dishes from a nearby restaurant. It’s close, I’ll be quick.”
Wen Ranqing melted into her tenderness. Her eyes sparkled with happiness, and she nodded without thinking.
After watching Chi Yi leave the room, already dressed, Wen Ranqing pressed her lips together, still flustered. Then she got up to wash and freshen up. The sky outside was still bright.
She took out the brush and ink set the assistant had brought earlier and quietly stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
It wasn’t even dinnertime yet, and Chi Yi returned in under 40 minutes—quick as always.
Outside, the sky was just beginning to dim. People had already begun to light lanterns by the river. Chi Yi had seen them on her way back—not a grand spectacle, but still touching. The Diwali-like Lantern Festival was a popular local celebration of blessings, and the act of watching while making silent wishes was meaningful in itself.
Chi Yi quickened her pace, wanting to sit by the windowsill with Wen Ranqing and watch together. Making wishes, watching lanterns—simple things, things she never had the patience or desire to do alone. But with Wen Ranqing, it felt perfect.
Chi Yi pushed the door open and saw Wen Ranqing already dressed and washed, standing at the window. In front of her stood a wooden easel.
Wen Ranqing had studied art. Her field required a solid foundation in sketching, so this wasn’t surprising.
Chi Yi had once worried that Wen Ranqing’s life revolved only around work and her—but seeing her immersed in painting made her heart lift with joy.
She smiled unconsciously. Her mood lightened.
The sky still held hints of blue. Wen Ranqing, focused and elegant, captivated Chi Yi just by standing there.
Not wanting to interrupt her, Chi Yi instinctively softened her steps and walked in to see what she was painting—a simple riverside scene, people lighting lanterns. The outlines were rough, the interior yet to be filled.
In that instant, Chi Yi remembered several old drawings tucked beneath her own sketchbooks—something clicked.
If her memory served her right, the brushwork in those forgotten sketches at home was nearly identical to the one in Wen Ranqing’s hands now.
And those drawings? They depicted various places she’d visited over the years on business trips.
She hadn’t thought much of them when she packed—just kept them with her own things.
Could those drawings… have been Wen Ranqing’s?
Chi Yi stood there frozen, her heart racing for no clear reason.
She hadn’t even asked Wen Ranqing why she was painting this now—or who it was for.
But suddenly, she had the overwhelming sense that someone… had been thinking about her for a very, very long time.
