- Chapter 3 - "My Little Alpha is Quite Fierce."
That day, Xie Yuqi hurried to the Dean’s Office. The moment she stepped inside, her eyes fell upon Ning Che. Her expression was calm, but her gaze was piercingly cold. She threw a sharp look at Ning Che but remained silent.
Ning Che had been gang beaten by a group of people and was left black and blue.
Under Xie Yuqi’s intense scrutiny, a wave of distress washed over her, and her nose tingled with a sour ache.
As Xie Yuqi’s girlfriend, not only had she failed to bring her honor, but she had also caused her to become the subject of malicious gossip.
Overwhelmed with shame, Ning Che averted her eyes.
Xie Yuqi walked over to the chair across from the Dean and sat down, uttering only a single sentence:
“Dean, four students from Federation University have publicly slandered me and spread malicious rumors about me, which has severely damaged my reputation. I am handing this matter over to my lawyer to handle with full authority.”
The Dean’s expression changed instantly. The gravity of the situation had completely escalated, what was supposed to be a minor conflict between students had now turned into students of Federation University publicly violating the reputation rights of a wealthy family’s heiress!
Upon hearing this, the four students immediately chickened out and tried to approach Ning Che for a reconciliation.
To their surprise, Xie Yuqi replied coldly, “My apologies. As Ning Che’s girlfriend, I have full authority to handle this matter on her behalf. We will not settle, nor will we accept any apologies. We will see you in court.”
Ning Che had never expected this. Seeing Xie Yuqi’s icy demeanor earlier, she had thought she would be blamed for stirring up trouble, but she hadn’t expected her to protect her so fiercely.
After leaving the Dean’s Office, Ning Che silently followed her into the car.
The driver and the assistant tactfully walked away, leaving only the security guards patrolling the perimeter.
Ning Che apologized in a low voice, “I’m sorry, Yuqi.”
Xie Yuqi asked coldly, “Why are you apologizing? Did you do something wrong?”
Ning Che was silent for a moment before saying, “I didn’t do anything wrong, but I brought trouble to you.”
Xie Yuqi crossed her arms and frowned.
She hated this answer. She would rather Ning Che complain to her, show weakness, act spoiled, seek help, or even viciously curse those foul mouthed classmates in front of her, anything was better than an apology. Yet, she chose to apologize.
Xie Yuqi suddenly asked, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
Stunned for a moment, Ning Che explained, “I didn’t expect them to go so far.”
Xie Yuqi’s face showed clear displeasure, but her tone remained incredibly calm. She looked Ning Che straight in the eye and asked, word by word, “Ning Che, do you just not trust me, or do you genuinely believe you’re a freeloading soft-rice-eater?”
Ning Che fell silent.
Xie Yuqi commanded, “Speak.”
Ning Che’s mind was a chaotic mess. To be honest, she had never been able to figure out why Xie Yuqi had publicly confessed to her during the freshman orientation. She didn’t understand what Xie Yuqi saw in her, but the pride of youth had kept her from ever asking.
The two of them stared at each other in silence.
After a long while, Ning Che spoke in a heavy tone, “Yuqi, dating you does feel like eating soft rice. But…”
She bit her lower lip, her voice growing increasingly solemn, “Even if there are endless rumors and gossip, I’m still willing.”
Xie Yuqi’s rigid, cold expression softened slightly. She reached out with her fingertips to gently touch the cuts and bruises on Ning Che’s face.
“Does it hurt?”
Ning Che gasped at the sharp sting. “Yes.”
Xie Yuqi let out a small smile. “Ning Che, I am very satisfied with your answer.”
Ning Che breathed a sigh of relief.
Xie Yuqi added, “You fought one against four, left two of them injured, and broke another one’s nose. I am very satisfied with that as well.”
Ning Che gave a bitter smile, then winced with a sharp hiss of pain.
Xie Yuqi said, “Move a bit closer. Let me blow on it.”
Ning Che brought her face closer.
Xie Yuqi pursed her red lips and gently blew cool air onto the wounds on her face.
Ning Che heard the amusement in her voice as she said, “My little Alpha is quite fierce.”
Smooch.
She rewarded Ning Che with a kiss.
After that day, no one dared to utter a single malicious rumor in front of Ning Che again.
Because those four students now had a criminal record, and Federation University was a place of brutal competition, they were expelled the exact day the court judgment was handed down.
Once the stylist and makeup artist finished their work, two personal assistants quickly held up specialized mirrors on either side, allowing Xie Yuqi to inspect her makeup and outfit closely.
It wasn’t until she nodded in satisfaction that everyone secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Next, the makeup artist swiftly applied light makeup to Ning Che, while the stylist put together a new outfit for her and casually styled her hair.
As Xie Yuqi’s girlfriend, her attire had to match the standards of the young heiress.
Of course, this was something Xie Yuqi had forcefully demanded at the very beginning of their relationship.
During the first two years, Ning Che had felt incredibly awkward about it. Now, she had convinced herself to get used to it.
However, to defend her own self-esteem, she stood her ground and refused to change her clothes, only agreeing to the makeup touch-up and hair styling.
Xie Yuqi glanced at her outfit but said nothing, standing up to head outside.
Ning Che followed.
She quickened her pace by a few steps to walk side by side with Xie Yuqi, tentatively reaching out to hold her hand.
Xie Yuqi did not pull away.
However, Ning Che keenly noticed her brow furrow slightly.
As expected, once her susceptibility period passed, Xie Yuqi reverted right back to that aloof and unattainable young heiress.
In public, she absolutely forbade Ning Che from initiating any intimacy.
Holding hands was rare, and kissing was entirely out of the question.
The two walked into the private elevator together, while the rest of the staff boarded another.
Ning Che looked at the bright mirror inside the elevator car. In the reflection, the two of them were holding hands and standing shoulder to shoulder, yet there was no sense of intimacy between them at all.
A small pang of disappointment hit her heart. She always felt as though there was an invisible barrier separating her from Xie Yuqi.
Staring into Xie Yuqi’s eyes, she intentionally tightened her grip on her hand.
Xie Yuqi’s expression didn’t change in the slightest.
She looked entirely preoccupied, lost in her own thoughts.
Ding.
The elevator doors opened.
Before them lay a spacious and brightly lit private garage. Even with five luxury cars already parked inside, it still looked immensely broad.
This garage was built exclusively for Xie Yuqi. It was private, enclosed, and completely separated from the main building’s parking lot. Only her private elevator could access it directly.
The driver, security guards, and accompanying entourage were already waiting respectfully.
A guard opened the door to the car in the middle.
Xie Yuqi stepped inside and sat down.
Ning Che stood by the car door, looking at her tenderly. “Are you coming back to sleep tonight?”
Xie Yuqi glanced at her. “So you’re not going to keep me company today either?”
Ning Che was currently in the second semester of her senior year; all her classes had ended, and she was in the stage of job hunting or preparing for postgraduate exams. Xie Yuqi, on the other hand, was in the final semester of her master’s degree. Her thesis and research achievements had long been submitted, and she was currently interning at her family’s enterprise while maintaining various high-level social obligations.
With an apologetic tone, Ning Che said, “The classes I’m substituting for aren’t finished yet. As soon as I’m done, I’ll come accompany you right away.”
“Understood. You don’t have to wait up for me tonight,” Xie Yuqi replied, her tone completely flat.
But Ning Che could tell she was slightly displeased. Yet, Ning Che had her own difficulties; she wanted to teach more classes to save up more money.
Softening her voice, she said, “Yuqi, once I’m done with this busy streak, I promise to accompany you every single day, alright?”
Xie Yuqi replied, “Got it.”
Seeing her businesslike, cold demeanor made Ning Che feel a bit miserable. She leaned down, intending to kiss her.
Xie Yuqi turned her face away slightly, her voice turning a bit cold. “Ning Che.”
Her tone carried a clear warning.
Ning Che’s lips stopped right beside her cheek, roughly three centimeters away.
Xie Yuqi sat with an elegant, dignified posture, her expression stern and keeping people a thousand miles away.
Ning Che felt rather hurt.
She was her girlfriend, and they had been together for four years. Was a parting kiss not completely normal?
Time seemed to freeze in that exact instant.
Xie Yuqi didn’t order the guards to stop her, nor did she make a move to close the car door.
An intense struggle waged inside Ning Che’s heart.
She didn’t know if it was because of last night’s tenderness, but she felt incredibly attached to Xie Yuqi right now. She had always found it difficult to match Xie Yuqi’s calm and detached demeanor after every intimate encounter. Over four years, a youthful, innocent affection, restrained and cautious, had still managed to accumulate day by day until it inadvertently grew profoundly deep.
Ning Che suddenly reached out and pressed her hand onto Xie Yuqi’s shoulder. Startled, Xie Yuqi instantly realized what she was about to do.
Her instinct was to dodge, but looking at that rapidly approaching, familiar face, she hesitated slightly.
Ning Che’s features weren’t breathtakingly stunning, but she possessed the kind of face that became more attractive the longer one looked at it. She was clean, delicate, fair-skinned, with a dense academic air and a perfectly balanced aura of melancholy.
When Xie Yuqi first saw her, she had merely found her a bit unique, but over time, she found her more and more pleasing to the eye.
In that split second of hesitation, Ning Che swiftly captured her lips in a kiss.
Xie Yuqi didn’t push her away.
Even when she was angry, she maintained her poise and composure, never losing her temper.
Ning Che tasted the lipstick on her lips, along with a familiar, refreshing fragrance.
It made her grow greedy for more.
However, she could feel Xie Yuqi tightening her lips.
She was angry.
Reluctantly breaking the kiss, Ning Che whispered in her ear, “I’ll miss you.”
With that, she stepped back a few paces.
The security guard immediately shut the car door.
Xie Yuqi’s expression remained unchanged, but a faint blush quietly crept up her cheeks.
In truth, she had been deep in thought and hadn’t expected Ning Che to be so bold.
This kiss made her quite displeased because she was currently feeling stressed about graduation.
She originally wanted to pursue a PhD, but her father, Xie Xuan, believed that a doctoral degree could completely be done part time while working, and had strictly ordered her to enter the family business early.
Xie Yuqi felt like her good days were coming to an end. Graduation meant she was officially entering adulthood, and when that time came, her marriage would undoubtedly be placed on the agenda. She had long heard from her mother that Xie Xuan had always intended to arrange a marriage alliance between her and the eldest daughter of the Ye family, Ye Linyi.
The Ye family was also one of the four major wealthy clans in Yanjing. A marriage alliance between the Xie and Ye families would be a powerful union, highly beneficial to expanding the family’s strength.
As the only daughter of the Xie family, Xie Yuqi had almost no other choice.
Xie Yuqi waved her hand irritably, and the luxury car slowly rolled out of the private garage.
Ning Che stood on the spot, watching her leave.
Her gaze never drifted from Xie Yuqi.
Xie Yuqi didn’t turn her head to look back at her, nor did she say goodbye.
Ning Che watched her beautiful profile vanish from sight, followed by her exquisite hairstyle being obscured by the car frame, until finally, even her silhouette through the rear window faded into a blur.
Her heart sank with a sense of loss, yet she found a shred of comfort in the residual warmth lingering on her lips.
Xie Yuqi’s figure was drawing further and further away. Even while sitting inside her own private car, she maintained a noble elegance at all times, her posture upright yet effortless. This icy demeanor gave Ning Che a distinct sense of alienation.
At the same time, an indescribable feeling welled up within her.
Xie Yuqi was a true darling of heaven, excellent, beautiful, and completely out of reach. In the future, she would take the reins of the Xie family, the undisputed head of Yanjing’s four major wealthy clans.
Meanwhile, she came from a impoverished family and was a disabled Alpha. Her best prospective future was merely leveraging her high-tier diploma from Federation University to enter a federal government department or secure a faculty position at a university and even staying at Federation University to teach would be incredibly difficult.
There was a disparity of clouds and mud between her and Xie Yuqi.
Yet, Xie Yuqi was her girlfriend.
This massive contrast brought Ning Che a hidden, hard to admit sense of joy.
It didn’t matter if she herself was ordinary and plain, her girlfriend was exceptional enough.
She was genuinely proud of her.
Quickly, Ning Che cheered herself up.
With firm steps, she walked out of the private garage and scanned a shared bicycle.
Today was her final class at the Mingde Training Institution. Once she finished teaching it, she could settle her wages.
Over the past four years, aside from studying and keeping Xie Yuqi company, she had spent all her remaining time teaching tutoring classes.
She only taught the intensive crash courses for high school seniors, because that was her area of expertise and commanded the highest hourly rate.
Over four years, combining her tutoring fees with the various cash prizes she won back when she was the top high school scorer in the state, plus her scholarships over these four years, she had managed to accumulate a substantial sum of money.
She could finally afford to buy that gift she had been dreaming of!
Yuqi, wait for me.
Ning Che’s heart felt warm, and a sudden surge of strength rushed into her legs as she pedaled the bicycle. The wheels spun furiously under her effort.
Like a bird soaring into the sky, she merged into the morning traffic flow.
