The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 47.1
The morning sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, accompanied by the shrill ringing of an alarm. The person on the bed jolted awake, eyes snapping open.
Reaching out to silence her phone, Lin Qile rolled over, intending to go back to sleep. But halfway through the motion, her calf was kicked.
“What time is it?”
A lazy voice drifted over as Rong Jing sat up, pressing her fingers to her temples in frustration.
She had never been one to oversleep, but lately likely due to the pregnancy, it felt like she could never wake up fully. This loss of control irritated her immensely, and she vented all her dissatisfaction through morning grumpiness, taking it out on the unfortunate Lin Qile.
Lin Qile cocooned herself in the blanket, curling into a ball, and glanced at her phone with a pitiful expression.
“It’s only 6:10. I set three alarms because I was afraid I wouldn’t wake up, we can still sleep a bit longer!”
As she spoke, her eyelids grew heavy, and she swayed drowsily before flopping back down, clinging to the blanket.
Rong Jing kicked her again, this time hard enough to jolt her fully awake. Seeing another kick incoming, Lin Qile reacted swiftly, grabbing her leg with a fawning grin.
“You’re pregnant take care of yourself. Don’t keep doing dangerous moves like this.”
Rong Jing snorted and withdrew her long, fair leg, then yanked the blanket out of Lin Qile’s grip. With a yawn, she lazily settled back down.
Taking the hint, Lin Qile scrambled up. “You sleep a little longer. I’ll go make breakfast and call you when it’s ready.”
“Hmm.”
The trailing hum carried a faint, kittenish tremble, almost like a coquettish purr.
The woman on the bed lay with her eyes half-lidded, disheveled long hair cascading around her. The morning light spilled over one side of her face, her long lashes fluttering occasionally like the wings of a butterfly about to take flight.
A sleeping beauty in repose could hardly compare.
Lin Qile’s heart pounded wildly. She had thought she would never have such intimate moments with Rong Jing, the story’s ultimate villain, again. She had even prepared to bundle up her bitter, unrequited feelings and toss them into the sea. Yet, against all odds, here they were sharing a bed once more.
Her gaze trailed along the alluring curves, lingering on Rong Jing’s exposed long legs.
She swallowed hard on instinct.
A faint trace of pheromones began to seep into the air.
During their separation, she hadn’t felt a single reaction and had even wondered if she’d developed pheromone insensitivity. But the moment she was near Rong Jing again, her pheromones went haywire without warning!
Muttering a curse under her breath, she turned to bolt out of the room, only for a pillow to slam into her, accompanied by Rong Jing’s furious roar.
“Lin Qile, what filthy thoughts are you having again?!”
She caught the pillow and lowered it just in time to see Rong Jing half-sitting up, cheeks flushed, eyes misty, lips glistening.
Clearly, she was also affected by the pheromones.
The scent in the air left Lin Qile no room for denial. Embarrassed and aggrieved, she whined, “It’s not like I want this! I can’t control it!”
Rong Jing’s chest heaved, teetering on the edge of an explosion.
Seeing this, Lin Qile hastily added, “Don’t get mad! I’ll go make breakfast right now!”
With the speed of the wind, she dashed to the door but before she could close it, the poor pillow came flying at her again.
“Get back here!”
So Lin Qile obediently rolled back in. The next second, Rong Jing grabbed her by the collar and yanked her onto the bed.
Lin Qile tumbled headfirst into Rong Jing’s embrace, the softness against her chest nearly sending her pheromones into complete chaos.
Afraid of bumping into Rong Jing, she carefully supported herself by the edge of the bed, one hand hovering tentatively over Rong Jing’s shoulder. “You’re pregnant, we can’t do… that…”
“Hmph, as if you weren’t the one with a one-track mind earlier.”
Rong Jing’s sarcastic remark left Lin Qile with no face to retort.
Like a lamb awaiting slaughter, Lin Qile could only lie still as Rong Jing did as she pleased. Unexpectedly, Rong Jing wrapped her arms around Lin Qile’s neck and kissed her, their lips and tongues entwining.
The two lingered in their embrace for a long while, their breaths mingling, the thick scent of pheromones nearly enveloping them both. The last shreds of Lin Qile’s self-control kept her from forcefully pinning Rong Jing down.
After what felt like an eternity, Rong Jing, panting heavily, pushed Lin Qile away, her face slightly flushed but her rationality restored.
She glared at Lin Qile with reddened eyes and asked hoarsely, “Uncomfortable?”
“Mmm, so uncomfortable.”
Lin Qile’s eyes were equally red, on the verge of tears from the torment.
Satisfied, Rong Jing gave her a light shove, a smirk curling her lips. “Go take a cold shower!”
“Huh?”
The words were too cruel, too cold. Lin Qile was utterly wounded. “You, aren’t you uncomfortable too?”
“I’m fine. Get lost!”
She scrambled into the bathroom, turned on the shower, and let the cold water drench her to the bone.
The heat finally began to subside, but her heart still pounded with lingering fear.
How could anyone do something like this?
Truly befitting of the ultimate villain firmly upholding the principle that if she wasn’t having a good time, no one else would either. Lin Qile couldn’t help but worry that she might not survive until the baby was born.
When she emerged from the bathroom, she found Rong Jing already up, looking refreshed and smirking at her.
“Not happy about it?”
“I wouldn’t dare!”
After all that, breakfast was naturally out of the question. On the way to dropping Rong Jing off at the company, Lin Qile hastily bought some breakfast and insisted she eat it.
By the time she drove back to the hospital, she felt completely drained.
The moment He Yan stepped into the office, she saw Lin Qile slumped lifelessly over the desk, staring blankly at a patient file. “Where’ve you been sneaking around? You look like a fox spirit sucked all the energy out of you, completely listless.”
Lin Qile shot her a glance and sighed mournfully. “Dr. He, I don’t deserve to stay in the obstetrics department anymore.”
“Well, well. What a rare moment of self-awareness.”
“I didn’t even realize my own wife no, ex-wife was four months pregnant. I…” Covering her face with her hands, Lin Qile groaned, “I really don’t deserve to stay.”
He Yan’s eyes widened in surprise. “You know? Did A-Jing tell you?”
Lin Qile nodded.
“What did you two talk about? Are you getting back together?”
“No, it’s still the same as before. It’s complicated hard to explain in a few words.”
Lost in self-doubt over failing to notice Rong Jing’s pregnancy, Lin Qile had no desire to discuss anything else. She was genuinely questioning herself, seriously reflecting on whether she was truly fit to be a doctor and capable of taking responsibility for her patients.
Seeing her like this, He Yan finally felt a twinge of sympathy and sat down across from her.
“I have to admit, I’m really curious. You’re a medical student, after all, how could you spend so much time with A-Jing and not notice anything? Her morning sickness was pretty severe.”
Lin Qile hesitated before answering. “I did suspect it once, but Rong Jing denied it, so I didn’t think about it further.” Her voice grew quieter, as if muttering in self-doubt. “Who’d have thought she’d be willing to have my child? It’s impossible… someone as proud as her, it just doesn’t make sense…”
“You don’t have to be so hard on yourself!” He Yan patted her shoulder, teasing as a good friend would. “With Rong Jing’s universally detestable personality, loathed by humans and dogs alike there aren’t many who can tolerate her. You two are evenly matched, quite the pair.”
Truly detestable.
Lin Qile thought of Rong Jing’s behavior that morning and wholeheartedly agreed.
But remembering the lesson from last time when her badmouthing was overheard, she forced herself to say against her conscience, “Actually, Rong Jing’s personality isn’t that bad.”
“No need to say such insincere words. I won’t tell Ah Jing.”
To this, Lin Qile thought: better safe than sorry.
Seeing her still looking dejected, He Yan clapped her hands. “Alright, recognizing your mistakes and correcting them makes you a good comrade. Cheer up, we still have rounds to make soon!”
“Dr. He, thank you!”
Lin Qile expressed her gratitude sincerely and soon got busy.
After rounds, He Yan went to see patients, while Lin Qile was assigned to the ultrasound room to assist the doctor with data entry.
The work was fairly mechanical, and she picked it up quickly. Everything went smoothly until, near the end of her shift, a commotion erupted outside the ultrasound room.
By then, all appointments had been completed. The two exchanged a glance and wordlessly stepped outside to investigate.
With the shift nearly over, the lobby was mostly empty. Lin Qile immediately spotted Rong Wanning, crying and shouting about scheduling an abortion to terminate her pregnancy. The dignified heiress was nowhere to be seen, only a hysterical mess remained.
How bizarre.
Leaving aside why she wanted an abortion, with Rong Wanning’s status, she could easily get VIP treatment at any hospital. Why come here and wait in line?
Unless… she didn’t actually want to abort the child but had another agenda.
How interesting. Lin Qile gleefully hid to the side, enjoying the spectacle.
Sure enough, Ji Zhao soon arrived, pulling Rong Wanning into an embrace, babbling excuses: “Wanning, listen to me! There’s nothing between me and Xiao Su, she’s just my secretary! You’re the only one I love. You have to believe me!”
Rong Wanning wept pitifully, pushing her away while wailing, “I don’t believe you! I won’t listen! Ji Zhao, how could you do this to me? I saw her hugging you!”
Back and forth they went, trading accusations and denials.
Lin Qile, thoroughly entertained, pieced together the story: the usual cheating scandal. After Qi Song and Ji Qian announced their engagement, Rong Jing’s disdain for Ji Zhao drove her back to her family’s company to play the domineering CEO.
But Ji Zhao quickly got carried away, getting too cozy with her secretary only to be caught red-handed by her pregnant wife. Rong Wanning, furious, immediately demanded an abortion and a divorce.
Truly the daughter of a scumbag like Qi Song and her mistress, cheating ran in the blood!
Lin Qile tsked in amusement, watching the drama unfold. She had expected Rong Wanning to make a big scene, but after a few sweet words from Ji Zhao and a comforting hug, the woman just dissolved into sobs.
The whole spectacle seemed about to fizzle out quietly.
Pathetic. What a letdown.
Disappointed, Lin Qile deliberately sauntered past the couple, shaking her head and muttering loudly to the doctor beside her:
“Once a cheater, always a cheater.”
“Infidelity is either zero times or infinite.”
“Avoid love-struck fools, misery follows.”
“A dog never changes its taste for shit. Never.”
Rong Wanning stopped crying the moment she saw her, stepping out of Ji Zhao’s embrace and pointing an accusing finger at Lin Qile. “Lin Qile, who the hell are you cursing at?”
Lin Qile glanced up at her. “Whoever responds is the one I’m cursing! And here you are, rushing to get scolded!”
“You, you!” Rong Wanning was seething but couldn’t find the words to retort.
Ji Zhao held her back. “Ningning, ignore her. Let’s go home.”
Lin Qile cheerfully twisted the knife. “Yeah, go home and check if there are any mistresses number four, five, six, or seven waiting in the wings. Wouldn’t want to find out only when the illegitimate kids show up at your door.”
That remark pushed Rong Wanning over the edge. Her eyes red, she lunged forward, grabbing Lin Qile’s clothes and shrieking, “You bitch! What did you just say? Say it again, I dare you!”
“I’m just giving you a friendly reminder. After all, it’s in the bloodline’s genes,” Lin Qile taunted.
Rong Wanning, humiliated and furious, snapped, “I’ll tear your filthy mouth apart today! How dare you curse me like that? I’ll fight you!”
She raised her hand to slap Lin Qile, but Lin Qile wasn’t about to tolerate her nonsense. She caught Rong Wanning’s wrist effortlessly and sneered, “With those twig arms of yours, you think you can start something?”
“Bitch!”
Rong Wanning struggled uselessly, cursing in rage.
Ji Zhao quickly intervened, shielding Rong Wanning behind her and glaring at Lin Qile. “Let go,” she demanded coldly.
Lin Qile shrugged and released her grip.
Steadying Rong Wanning, Ji Zhao warned Lin Qile sharply, “Lin Qile, don’t push it! Without the Lin family or Rong Jing, what are you even worth now?”
