The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 44.1
Evening.
Rong Jing returned home to find it cold and deserted, instantly igniting her fury!
She pulled out her phone and called Lin Qile, “Where are you?”
“I’m at my mom’s place. She just got back, and Qi Song is about to marry Ji Qian. I was worried she might be upset, so I’m keeping her company. You… take care of yourself.”
“Got it.”
She hung up with a frosty expression.
On the other end, Lin Qile put down her phone dejectedly and picked up a book.
“Stop thinking about other things, focus on studying!”
The following days passed without Lin Qile returning to the villa they shared.
She shuttled between school and home, while also visiting hospitals to apply for residency training opportunities. But the results were discouraging her academic performance was simply too poor.
Finally, the day of the exam arrived.
Early in the morning, she sent Rong Jing a text: I have my exam today. Can you wish me luck?
Still, no reply.
Disappointed, she tucked her phone away and entered the exam hall.
The exams lasted three days. Once the results were out, she would officially graduate as a medical student and could start applying for residency programs with her transcript.
“Lele, don’t stress yourself out. Even if you don’t do well, Mom will find a way to get you into a residency program.”
Thinking Lin Xinrou was just joking, Lin Qile didn’t take it seriously. She hugged her tightly instead. “Mom, you’re the best.”
For the first time in two lifetimes, she felt the warmth of having someone waiting for her after an exam.
“Lele, it’s okay.”
Lin Xinrou, assuming she hadn’t performed well, was trying to comfort her when her daughter suddenly burst into laughter. “I think I did alright.”
She might not rank at the top, but she probably hadn’t done too badly.
“Really?”
“Yeah!”
As mother and daughter walked out, Lin Qile checked her phone again, still no message from Rong Jing. Unable to resist, she asked, “Mom, have you seen Rong Jing at the company these past few days?”
“I have, but she’s been so busy. I heard Lin Corporation landed a major deal, if it goes through, it could turn things around. Rong Jing’s been working tirelessly, pulling all-nighters every day.”
“I see…”
“Rong Jing!”
Lin Xinrou suddenly exclaimed in delight. Lin Qile quickly turned toward the school gate and saw Rong Jing standing by her car door.
After days apart, she looked even thinner.
Lin Qile hurried over. “I sent you a message.”
“Finished your exams?”
She nodded with a smile. “It felt pretty good, I don’t think I messed up.”
Rong Jing grabbed her arm and pulled her close, then turned to Lin Xinrou. “Mom, I have something to take care of. Can I borrow Qile for now?”
“Of course! You two go celebrate. I’ll head home first.”
“Thank you.”
Rong Jing practically shoved her into the car before driving them home.
The entire time, Lin Qile was bewildered. “Rong Jing?”
Eyes fixed on the road, Rong Jing asked, “Nothing else going on now, right?”
“Nope. Just waiting for my transcript, diploma, and residency placement.”
Leaning back, she studied Rong Jing’s profile, her heart swelling with happiness. She admitted it, she was completely, hopelessly smitten. Just seeing Rong Jing seek her out made her as giddy as scoring full marks on a test.
Fine, forget about his issues. Rong Jing has her quirks. If she stays with me for life, even without love, maybe I can accept that.
Out of nowhere, Rong Jing asked, “Do you really have to do a residency?”
“Of course! How else can I become a doctor?”
Rong Jing spoke earnestly, “Do you want to be a doctor just to make money? The supplementary card I gave you is enough to buy whatever you want. You don’t need to go through residency training.”
“Miss, are you planning to support me now?”
“Mhm.”
“Haha, being a freeloader doesn’t sound too bad. I could spend my days pampering myself, getting plump and fair, and then serve you at night.”
The corners of Rong Jing’s lips curled up. “Sounds good.”
The recent turmoil at the company seemed as if it had never happened, and there was no trace of the cold war between them.
She nervously clenched her fingers, no longer daring to guess Rong Jing’s thoughts. The world of the ultimate villain was something she could never fully understand, she could only take things one step at a time.
Still, it was a relief. After not seeing each other for over ten days, Rong Jing hadn’t spiraled further into darkness.
Back home.
Before she could even change her shoes at the door, Rong Jing pinned her against the wall. “Lin Qile.”
“Here!”
“You’ve been doing quite well these past few days, haven’t you?”
“I—”
She had been about to say she was doing fine, but seeing Rong Jing narrow her eyes, devoid of any warmth, instantly put her on edge. Should she say she was doing well or not?
“I… I actually… heh, I’ve been studying day and night to prepare for the exams, so I haven’t really thought about whether I was doing well or not.”
“Is that so?”
Rong Jing patted her cheek. “You’ve gained weight.”
“It’s just bloating from staying up late!”
She understood now, she absolutely could not say she had been doing well without Rong Jing. That would imply Rong Jing had mistreated her before!
After spending so much time around the ultimate villain, she had learned to read between the lines. Tears.
“I couldn’t eat well, couldn’t sleep well. While studying, I kept worrying about you, whether you were sleeping okay, eating properly, if you’d gone into heat and needed my help. I was constantly thinking about you.”
Rong Jing’s gaze shifted slightly before releasing her. “Go cook.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
She obediently prepared a meal and watched as Rong Jing ate gracefully. “You haven’t been eating well lately, have you? You’ve lost weight.”
“Feeling guilty now?”
“Uh, I left you the numbers of all those restaurants, the ones I personally tried and knew suited your taste. Didn’t you order from them?”
Rong Jing pursed her red lips. “Why should I place my own orders?”
“Me!”
That was such a domineering response, she was left speechless!
Nighttime.
The two shared a bed again. After days apart, she couldn’t help but feel restless, especially with Rong Jing fresh out of the shower, exuding an irresistible allure. Her pheromones began to stir uncontrollably.
“Rein in your pheromones!”
“Uh…”
She crawled closer and tugged at the hem of Rong Jing’s clothes. “I missed you.”
“After running off for days, taking care of your own business, now that you’re free, you remember me?”
Rong Jing leaned in, closing the distance between them.
Damn it! So she had been keeping score, just waiting to settle it now.
Rong Jing hooked a finger under her chin and kissed her deeply.
As their lips and tongues tangled, she grew impulsive, her hands moving to Rong Jing’s shoulders, ready to push her down, only to be kicked to the far corner of the bed before she could act.
“Sleep.”
“Huh?”
You start the fire but won’t put it out?!
But since she was the one at fault this time, she had no choice but to accept it. Taking a few deep breaths, she lay down beside Rong Jing and closed her eyes. “Sleep, sleep.”
Rong Jing opened her eyes, dark emotions swirling in their depths. “Your free time is over. From now on, you’ll stay home obediently and wait for me.”
She yawned. “Sure, but you’ll support me, right?”
“Aren’t I already?”
…Well, that was true.
Can’t even talk to Rong Jing, always end up getting completely shut down!
The next day.
When Lin Qile opened her eyes, Rong Jing was already about to leave. She sat up groggily, “I’ll take you to the office.”
“No need.”
Rong Jing looked at her, “Just wait for me to come home.”
At this point, Lin Qile still hadn’t realized anything was off. But when she got up and tried to leave the house, she suddenly found she had no keys and all her shoes had been sent out for cleaning.
“How am I supposed to go out like this?”
Oh well, it wasn’t a big deal. After studying so hard for so long, she could just treat it as a day off.
She spent the day idly at home.
In the evening, when Rong Jing returned, she found the house spotless. Lin Qile was tinkering with a humidifier and waved at her, “Dinner’s almost ready. I was just fixing this.”
“What’s that?”
“A humidifier. Didn’t you complain about the air being dry at night? I had nothing to do, so I thought I’d try fixing it.”
Rong Jing’s eyes flickered. She’d only mentioned it casually once had this fool actually remembered?
“Can you fix it?”
“Nope. But since all my shoes are out for cleaning and I had nothing else to do, I followed an online tutorial. Just killing time.”
Rong Jing washed her hands and walked over, “Let’s eat first.”
“Okay.”
She stood up and followed Rong Jing to the dining table. “Your Highness, dinner is served.”
“Hmm?”
Lin Qile grinned, “Saw it online today, just playing with a new meme.”
“You have me saved in your phone as ‘My Young Miss’?” Rong Jing stepped closer, tilting Lin Qile’s chin up, her eyes smiling. “I’m your young miss?”
“Yeah, I’ve never met anyone more high-maintenance than you.”
Rong Jing’s lips curled. “I don’t want to be a princess. I’ll just be your young miss.”
“Sure, sure. Young Miss, dinner is served.”
“Good.”
After dinner, Lin Qile casually asked, “Did you send all my shoes out for cleaning?”
“Mhm.”
“It’s so late and they still haven’t been returned. I wanted to go out tomorrow.”
Rong Jing looked at her, “Where do you want to go?”
“Uh, haven’t decided yet.”
Rong Jing crooked a finger at her.
“Hey, stop calling me over like I’m a cat,” she grumbled but still walked over and sat beside Rong Jing. “What?”
Rong Jing toyed with her earlobe. “If you haven’t decided, then it’s not important. So it doesn’t matter whether you go or not.”
“But—”
“Not afraid of getting drugged again? Next time, I might not come to save you.”
The memory of that night sent a shiver down her spine, and she quickly shook her head.
The next day, her shoes still hadn’t been returned. She was starting to get annoyed, but when Rong Jing came home that evening, she seemed even happier, even watching a movie with her.
By the third day, Lin Qile finally caught on.
“System, is Rong Jing trying to pull some forced confinement play here? I feel like she’s restricting my freedom!”
[Host, you’re seriously slow on the uptake!]
“!!!”
She rushed to the door and yanked it open. Seeing it wasn’t locked, for some reason, she broke out in a cold sweat.
If the door had been locked, it would’ve been textbook forced confinement.
“If the big villain decides to imprison me on a whim, does that mean my mission fails?”
[No idea.]
“Why would she even want to imprison me? Haven’t I been obedient enough? I practically kneel to welcome the queen home every day, what more does she want?!”
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got!
That night, when Rong Jing returned, Lin Qile suppressed her frustration and tentatively mentioned she wanted to go to school the next day.
Rong Jing looked up at her with a hint of displeasure on her face. “Didn’t you finish your exams? Why do you still need to go to school?”
What business is it of yours if I go out?
Of course, she only dared to curse in her heart.
She tried to explain patiently, “The exams are over, but after getting my results, I need to prepare for the residency program. I have to contact hospitals with my grades, if I don’t put in extra effort, no hospital will take me.”
“And you think running around will change that?”
“How would I know if I don’t try?”
Rong Jing scoffed. “What you think doesn’t matter. What matters is what the hospitals think of you! Put yourself in their shoes would you take on a resident who failed every exam for the past five years and only aced the final graduation test?”
The words stung, but they weren’t wrong.
She couldn’t argue back.
“Stay here. Didn’t you say you still haven’t fixed the humidifier?”
Rong Jing smirked and got up, heading toward the bedroom.
“Rong Jing!”
She grabbed Rong Jing’s arm, forcing a smile. “Do you really have to be so harsh?”
Rong Jing turned back, her gaze dark and unfathomable.
“Do you really want to be a doctor that badly? It’s exhausting, the pay is low, and you’ll constantly deal with medical disputes. Lin Qile,”
“That’s my dream. I have to try.”
Rong Jing pressed her lips together, studying her. “Even if there’s no hope?”
“Yes.”
Suddenly, Rong Jing pulled her into an embrace. “Wouldn’t it be nice to just stay here? You don’t have to worry about the Lin family. I can ensure your mother keeps living comfortably. Didn’t you say being a freeloader isn’t so bad?”
“I was joking, Rong Jing! I—”
Rong Jing whispered in her ear, “Do you want to hold me? I’m in the mood.”
“I don’t want to right now.”
“But I do.”
Rong Jing’s tongue flicked against her neck, and a faint scent filled the air, oh no, Rong Jing was releasing pheromones!
“Why are you releasing your pheromones? Mmm!”
Rong Jing bit down on her neck, sucking lightly, then guided her hand to press against her waist.
Her mind grew hazier by the second, until she finally gave in, scooping Rong Jing up and carrying her into the bedroom.
Then, at the critical moment, she was kicked off the bed…
Rong Jing even had the nerve to accuse her, saying her dreams were clearly worthless if she couldn’t resist temptation, proof that she didn’t need to persist!
Damn it! This was blatant entrapment!
Rong Jing was using such childish tactics to keep her from leaving. On the surface, she resisted, but that didn’t mean she’d actually become Rong Jing’s caged songbird. No, she could tell Rong Jing was getting too comfortable using her and wanted to keep her close, ready to play with whenever the mood struck.
Nothing in life was more infuriating than this!
She liked Rong Jing. She wanted love and affection. But all Rong Jing wanted was physical intimacy and now, having grown accustomed to it, she wanted to lock her up for a lifetime!
So, she pretended to comply while secretly having Xu Jiao deliver her shoes.
“You two really play some wild games. If she actually wanted to trap you, why not just lock the door? What’s the point of sending your shoes out for cleaning?”
“Trap me? It was an accident. Rong Jing didn’t mean to trap me.”
