The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 43.1
Early morning.
Lin Qile woke up to the dull ache spreading throughout her body.
Opening her eyes, she found Rong Jing lying in her arms. She froze for several seconds before recalling the events of the previous night.
She had gone to a cosplay gathering with Xu Jiao, only to be drugged by an alpha.
Damn it!
What kind of mess was this?
Back when she was a beta, she had never encountered anything like this. Now that she was an alpha, she had nearly been assaulted by another alpha woman.
Fortunately, relying on her medical knowledge, she had managed to knock the other person unconscious and escape.
And then…
She looked down at Rong Jing, still asleep, feeling both touched and furious.
Touched because Rong Jing had actually come looking for her. Furious because despite her condition, this woman hadn’t helped her resolve it!
After all the times she had dutifully played the role of Rong Jing’s “inflatable doll,” giving her all every single time and this was how Rong Jing repaid her?!
She had tied her up and waited for suppressants!
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She tried to get up, but Rong Jing’s arm was wrapped tightly around her waist, as if afraid she might run away.
She huffed. “Now you won’t let go of me? Where was this energy last night?”
Despite her grumbling, her body betrayed her as she instinctively pulled Rong Jing closer. In a whisper, she asked, “Rong Jing, you were so desperate to find me… does that mean you care about me, even just a little?”
The person in her arms remained deep in slumber.
“Even a tiny bit is enough. I’ll work hard to become worthy of you. Just wait for me.”
“Mmm…”
Rong Jing slowly opened her eyes, only to find herself being squeezed so tightly she could barely breathe. She reached up and grabbed the back of Lin Qile’s head. “Lin Qile!”
“S-sorry, did I wake you?”
Just as she was about to let go, Rong Jing flipped her over and pinned her down, straddling her waist. Gazing down at her with an intense, almost oppressive stare, Rong Jing’s usually deep eyes now burned with something fiercer.
“Lin Qile.”
“Yeah?”
“You’re not allowed to see Xu Jiao anymore.”
“Last night was just an accident! Xu Jiao didn’t, Mmm!”
Her entire body stiffened as Rong Jing’s hand closed around her throat not applying pressure, but the position alone was enough to make her tense.
[Host, alert! Alert! Rong Jing’s blackening level: 41%!]
?!
Rong Jing leaned down, her breath hot against Lin Qile’s ear. “You go out with her once, and this happens. I don’t like her. Right now, I really feel like destroying someone for fun. How about I destroy Xu Jiao?”
“I’ll never see Xu Jiao again!”
Rong Jing smiled, seemingly pleased with the answer. She traced a finger along Lin Qile’s collarbone, slowly moving downward. “Good girl. Here’s your reward.”
Half an hour later.
Lin Qile lay sprawled across the bed, gasping for air. Though they hadn’t gone all the way, the sheer euphoria of Rong Jing taking the initiative made her suddenly understand an old saying:
To die beneath the peony is to be a ghost of pleasure.
She turned her head toward the bathroom, where Rong Jing was showering.
Her phone buzzed. Picking it up, she saw a message from Xu Jiao.
After a quick glance at the bathroom, she opened it:
Xu Jiao: How are you, Qile? Are you still alive?
Lin Qile: Barely…
Xu Jiao: I know, I’m so sorry, sis. I was blind. I almost got you killed.
Lin Qile: I’m fine. But you better get your act together. Falling for an alpha is one thing, but falling for a psycho? I’ll cut ties with you if that happens.
Xu Jiao: I’ve already snapped out of it. That Alice is done for beaten to a pulp. The police even dug up evidence at her place that she’s been assaulting multiple alphas. She’ll never leave the hospital again.
Lin Qile: Who beat her up?
She remembered running out at that time, she looked up toward the bathroom.
Could it be Rong Jing?
Hearing the bathroom door open, she quickly put away her phone.
Rong Jing walked out wrapped in a towel and headed straight for the dressing room.
She called out to her, “Dry your hair.”
“No.”
“You can’t say no!”
She got out of bed, walked over, and pulled Rong Jing to sit on the sofa. “I’ll dry it for you.”
She expected resistance, but after pushing Rong Jing down, the other woman simply looked up at her quietly without any protest.
“Sit still. I’ll get the hairdryer.”
When she returned with the hairdryer, Rong Jing was indeed sitting obediently on the sofa, looking down at her phone.
“So well-behaved? I told you to sit still, and you actually did?”
Rong Jing seemed to be in a good mood, replying to messages while saying, “Give you an inch, and you’ll take a mile?”
By now, she could easily distinguish between Rong Jing’s good and bad moods from that expressionless face. Right now, it was the former, so she dared to tease back, “Of course, Young Mistress. If you dare give me an inch, I’ll dare take a mile.”
“Just dry my hair properly!”
“Yes, ma’am!”
She carefully dried Rong Jing’s hair. It was soft and pleasant to the touch, completely unlike Rong Jing’s cold, rigid personality.
She really didn’t want someone like this to turn dark.
Before, she had worried about being affected, failing her mission, and dying. But now, she realized she simply didn’t want Rong Jing to turn dark.
Because every time Rong Jing turned dark, it was due to immense suffering.
Truly, love makes people irrational.
“Rong Jing.”
“Speak.”
She opened her mouth, wanting to ask, What can I do to keep you from turning dark? But the words lingered on her lips, and she didn’t dare voice them.
Rong Jing looked up at her. “Well?”
She flashed her a bright smile. “I was going to say: Your hair’s dry. Go change.”
“Weirdo.”
Rong Jing got up to change.
During breakfast, the two watched the news together.
“This station reports that a major case of an alpha drugging and assaulting another alpha has been solved. The suspect, Alice, may face a thirty-year sentence…”
Seeing this news, Rong Jing set down her cup, a shadow flickering in her eyes. “Only thirty years?”
Lin Qile’s heart skipped a beat. There was no mistake Rong Jing was behind this!
But why would she do such a thing?
Was it because Alice had drugged her?
“Thank you.”
Rong Jing glanced at her. “For what?”
“This kind of thing is humiliating. If you hadn’t stepped in, I wouldn’t have known how to get revenge.”
Rong Jing snorted. “You know it’s humiliating? Even kindergarteners know not to drink random beverages outside. You’re worse than a child!”
Her face flushed. “It won’t happen again.”
“You think there’ll be a next time?” Rong Jing narrowed her eyes, exuding a chilling aura.
“No, no next time. I won’t attend gatherings like that anymore. I’ll be busy with graduation exams.”
She stood up to gather her things for school.
“Don’t forget, you promised not to see that Xu Jiao again.”
Her back stiffened.
She had thought it was just a passing whim of Rong Jing’s.
“Lin Qile!”
She turned back with a smile. “I remember, Young Mistress!”
After breakfast, Rong Jing left for work.
She walked to the entryway to change her shoes.
“Wait!”
Lin Qile ran to the coffee table, grabbed something, then walked over and crouched by the entrance, lifting her foot.
“What are you doing?”
“Lift your foot, quick.”
Rong Jing raised her foot and saw Lin Qile stick a band-aid on the injured spot. “I vaguely remembered you hurt your foot. Honestly, if possible, you shouldn’t be wearing high heels lately.”
“No way!”
She pouted. “I know you won’t listen, so the band-aid will have to do for now. I’ll go to the pharmacy later and get some medicine to apply for you tonight.”
Rong Jing stared at her without a word.
“Let’s go.”
After dropping Rong Jing off at the company, she drove to school.
Sitting in the study room, she muted her phone and set it aside, officially beginning her new day of revision.
By noon, she stretched lazily and picked up her phone, ready to head to the cafeteria, only to find over a dozen missed calls, from Rong Jing, her mother, Xu Jiao, and even Qi Song.
“System, what’s going on? World War III?”
[Qi Song is marrying Ji Qian. It’s already in the papers.]
“What?!”
[Rong Jing and Xu Jiao are probably worried about how you’ll take it. As for your mom… she already knows and is flying back.]
She immediately called Lin Xinrou, but the phone was turned off.
“Is my mom already on the plane?”
[Yes.]
Damn. If Lin Xinrou saw this news, wouldn’t she lose it?
She hadn’t expected Lin Xinrou to cut ties cleanly and forget about Qi Song, that scumbag, so quickly. But if Qi Song pulled this stunt and Lin Xinrou couldn’t handle it, rushing back to make a scene at the wedding…
Just the thought made her want to scream in frustration.
“System, can we stop Lin Xinrou from coming back? I’m seriously worried she still has lingering feelings for Qi Song and might humiliate herself!”
[No.]
Agitated, she left the study building and called Rong Jing.
The call connected quickly. Rong Jing asked, “Studying this morning?”
“Yeah, but I found out Qi Song is marrying that homewrecker, and they’re making it a huge spectacle.”
“Your mom couldn’t reach you, so she called me. Her flight lands at 3 p.m. Do you want me to go with you to the airport?”
“No!”
The immediate refusal made Rong Jing purse her lips, her eyes dimming. She relayed the flight details. “Then go by yourself.”
With that, she hung up.
“Rong Jing? Rong Jing?”
Hearing the dial tone, she let out a bitter laugh. Did she just make her angry?
Keeping Rong Jing away from the airport was truly for her own good. With Qi Song and Ji Qian making such a big deal out of this, the paparazzi wouldn’t miss it, they were probably already at the airport waiting to snap photos. This was something she and Lin Xinrou had to face alone. She didn’t want to drag Rong Jing into it, especially with her injured foot.
After a moment’s thought, she sent Rong Jing a text: I know you don’t like being caught by paparazzi. I’ll go pick up my mom alone.
She didn’t realize that, to Rong Jing, these words were ironclad proof that she was pushing her away.
Rong Jing sat at her desk, gripping her phone tightly, a dark glint flashing in her eyes. “Lin Qile, even now, you’re still trying to distance yourself from me.”
Her fists clenched, a storm brewing in her gaze.
Airport.
Lin Qile watched as Lin Xinrou’s flight landed. Wearing a hat and mask, she stood at the arrivals gate, spotting several paparazzi lurking in the crowd.
But even after all the passengers from the flight had exited, Lin Xinrou still hadn’t appeared.
She continued making the call, and this time it connected. However, the person who answered wasn’t Lin Xinrou but a woman with a cool, unfamiliar voice. “Hello, this is Wei Lan, a friend of your mother’s. She isn’t feeling well and can’t take the call right now. We took the staff exit meet us outside the airport. The license plate number is ***.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
When she arrived outside the airport and found the car, she realized it was an incredibly luxurious stretch limousine.
The driver opened the door for her. “Please.”
As soon as she got in, she saw her mother, eyes red, clutching a cup of hot water.
“Mom.”
“Lele.”
The moment Lin Xinrou saw her daughter, her barely stabilized emotions surged again. Choking back sobs, she reached out and hugged her tightly. “I’m sorry, I’ve failed you. We owe so much money, and yet I left you alone to deal with it while I ran off abroad to enjoy myself.”
Huh?
She wasn’t crying because Qi Song was getting married?
She pushed Lin Xinrou back slightly. “Mom, you’re not crying because of Qi Song’s wedding?”
Lin Xinrou sniffled. “Didn’t I promise you, Lele? I’d never cry over her again. And she really has no regard for our past, billions in debt, and she couldn’t care less about us. If I still grieve for her, I’d be utterly pathetic!”
