The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 38.2
Lin Qile panicked and chased after her. “Rong Jing, you promised you’d leave enough money for my mom to retire on! That’s why we handed Lin Corporation over to you!”
“When did I ever promise you that?”
Rong Jing shot her a glance and snorted coldly. “I invested to keep Lin Corporation running so I could make more money. If it had no investment value, I’d naturally pull out. Did you think I was running a charity?”
Lin Qile collapsed onto another lounge chair. “So… you’re saying my mom and I are broke now? No, we’re drowning in debt?”
“Exactly. Your mom’s credit cards should already be frozen by procedure. In a few days, she’ll get a notification that they’re unusable.”
Lin Qile immediately jumped up and ran toward the living room.
Rong Jing closed her eyes and called out, “You’ve been using your mom’s supplementary card all this time. Yours will probably stop working soon too.”
Lin Qile froze in shock.
“Scared now?”
Laughter drifted from the balcony.
She stiffly turned around and walked back to the balcony, staring at Rong Jing, who was leisurely enjoying her post-meal relaxation.
The next second,
She threw herself at Rong Jing, clinging to her arm as tears streamed down her face.
Rong Jing’s expression darkened.
“What are you doing? Let go!”
“Rong Jing, Miss Rong, Your Majesty, Master, please don’t do this! You must have a way out, right?”
Rong Jing looked at her with disdain. “Do you think I’m some kind of god?”
“You must have a solution!”
You’re the biggest villain in this story, you could destroy the world if you wanted. A little debt is nothing to you!
“Get off me!”
“No!”
Rong Jing tried to pry her off, but Lin Qile wrapped herself around her like a stubborn vine. “Just buy Lin Corporation! You can definitely make money from it! I’m begging you, you said yourself the Lin Building is still valuable. Please give my mom and me a way out!”
Rong Jing couldn’t help but laugh at her shameless antics. She pinched Lin Qile’s chin between her fingers. “That depends on your performance. After all, we’re only in a fake marriage. I’ve already gone above and beyond for you, why should I exhaust myself helping you like this?”
Lin Qile hesitated, unsure what Rong Jing was implying.
She specifically mentioned the fake marriage… Is it because now that Lin Corporation is bankrupt and I’m no longer useful against Qi Song, she wants to cut ties? Does she want a divorce?
The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. After all, she couldn’t offer Rong Jing any benefits now.
Her shoulders slumped in defeat. “I understand what you mean.”
Rong Jing smirked, watching her with amusement. At least she’s perceptive. This idiot really just needs a little scare to fall in line.
Lin Qile said weakly, “We can get divorced anytime. You can blame everything on me, it won’t have any negative impact on you. Could you please show some mercy and leave a bit of money for my mom? It doesn’t have to be much, just ten million would be enough…”
Rong Jing suddenly stood up, and caught off guard, she stumbled and fell to the ground.
“Lin Qile, don’t push your luck!”
She asked guiltily, “Then… if not money, can we at least keep the place we live? After all, my mom has lived there for over a decade, she’s used to it.”
“You’re really filial, aren’t you?”
Rong Jing turned and walked toward the bedroom.
She quickly followed. “Then what do you want?”
“Shut up!”
Rong Jing stiffened, turned around, and stared at her with dark, unreadable eyes.
Step by step, she approached. Lin Qile instinctively took a step back.
Rong Jing’s eyes burned with resentment, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “Divorce? You’re dreaming.”
With a sharp kick to her leg, Rong Jing stormed into the bathroom in fury.
“Ow! What’s your problem?”
She crouched down, rubbing her sore leg, when a cold, familiar scent suddenly drifted through the air. She knew exactly what it meant.
Jumping to her feet, she rushed to the bathroom and knocked on the door. “Hey, your pheromones are going haywire!”
Seeing the door wasn’t even closed, she pushed it open.
A wave of pheromones engulfed her. Beneath the icy fragrance, her heartbeat quickened uncontrollably. “You!”
Rong Jing was leaning against the wall, panting heavily in distress.
Her skin was flushed, her eyes glazed with unshed tears. Struggling to speak, she hissed, “Get out!”
“Hey, look at the state you’re in. If I leave, what are you going to do?”
Rong Jing mustered all her strength and shoved her away. “Get out! I don’t need you… He Yan…”
Lin Qile froze at the venom in Rong Jing’s expression.
By the time she snapped out of it, she had already been pushed out of the bathroom.
Staring in shock at the door, she heard agonized sounds from inside and panicked. “Rong Jing, open the door!”
“Go… call He Yan…”
Seeing how adamant she was, Lin Qile had no choice but to pull out her phone and call He Yan.
It took He Yan twenty-five minutes to arrive.
The moment she stepped inside, she saw Lin Qile pacing anxiously. “Hurry! She’s been holding on for over ten minutes!”
For a marked omega to endure a heat cycle alone was worse than death.
At the bathroom door, He Yan knocked. “Rong Jing, it’s me. Open up.”
Several seconds later, the door opened.
The hand that pushed it open was smeared with blood. Lin Qile’s heart lurched. “Rong Jing, you’re hurt?”
He Yan stepped inside.
Lin Qile tried to follow but was blocked. “If you don’t want to make her suffer more, stay the hell away. Your pheromones will only make it worse!”
“I want to help her—”
“Then stay away. That’s how you help.”
With that, the door slammed shut.
Lin Qile opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but no words came out. She left the bedroom and sat on the couch in the living room, waiting.
Time crawled by. She had no idea what was happening inside, but the image of Rong Jing’s bloodied hand lingered in her mind.
She buried her face in her hands, staring blankly at the floor.
What the hell was going on?
Every other time Rong Jing went into heat, she had been the one to help. Why was she being rejected now?
Suddenly hearing Rong Jing’s painful cries from the room, she stood up abruptly, wanting to go over, but then remembered He Yan’s warning and quickly stepped back.
Sitting back down, she told herself that He Yan was the professional and all she had to do was wait.
System.
[Host, I’m here.]
Why has Rong Jing been acting so strange lately?
[I don’t know, but there’s one thing I must remind you of Rong Jing’s darkening level has increased.]
“What?!”
[Rong Jing’s darkening level is at 35%. Once it reaches 50%, your chances of success won’t be great. Please soothe the antagonist as soon as possible.]
“No way, she’s darkening already?! It can’t be because I brought up divorce and hurt her proud ego, can it?!”
After what felt like an eternity, the bedroom door opened.
He Yan walked out.
“Lin Qile.”
“I’m here!”
“If I could, I’d really like to strangle you.”
Lin Qile: “…”
“Get lost. Stop making yourself a nuisance here. It’s not like you don’t have a home, why keep staying here?”
“I’ll go check on her, then leave.”
He Yan raised a hand to stop her. “Enough. Don’t act all devoted now. Others might not know why the two of you got married, but I do.”
She pressed her lips together.
“If Rong Jing’s pheromones didn’t only react to you, you wouldn’t even have the right to get close to her.”
Lin Qile slunk away from the villa.
He Yan snorted coldly, poured a glass of hot water, and returned to the bedroom. “Here, drink some water.”
Rong Jing lay weakly on the bed, her face deathly pale without a trace of color. She mouthed silently, “Where is she?”
“Gone.”
Hearing this, Rong Jing struggled to sit up, but as soon as she lifted herself slightly, her body collapsed back onto the bed.
“Good grief, you’re in no condition to be doing anything right now. What are you trying to do?”
Placing the hot water on the table, He Yan anxiously pressed her back onto the bed. “All your body’s vital signs are nearing critical levels. Do you know what will happen if they drop below the threshold?”
Rong Jing looked at her. “What will happen?”
“You’ll lose this baby!”
At these words, her hand moved to her abdomen, covering it gently. She would lose the child?
“Sigh…”
He Yan sat on the edge of the bed. “I really don’t understand you anymore. If you’re upset, go torment Lin Qile. You’ve already been marked by her. Normal marital activities in the first three months won’t affect the fetus much. Why refuse to use her during your heat cycle and torture yourself instead?”
“I know.”
Rong Jing buried her face in the blanket, her voice muffled.
“Tell me honestly, what’s going on? Is she seeing someone else? Damn it, this spoiled heiress is already bankrupt, drowning in debt, and only avoiding debt collectors because you stepped in. She can’t still be fooling around, can she?”
“No.”
“Then what is it?”
Rong Jing bit her lip hard. She had her pride, she didn’t want Lin Qile to touch her just because she was forced to.
But hadn’t she forced her from the very beginning?
Hadn’t it always been like this?
Yet tonight, she brought up divorce so casually, as if… as if she didn’t care about this marriage at all.
How dare she?!
“Rong Jing?”
“He Yan, I’m fine. I just want to be alone for a while.”
He Yan looked at the huddled figure of her friend. The two had known each other since childhood, and Rong Jing had always been stunningly beautiful. Many alphas teased her for not behaving like an omega, but she was too proud to care. She practiced taekwondo, took up kickboxing, and even spent a few years living in the military camp with her grandfather.
By the time she returned, she had become an icy beauty.
Over the years, Rong Jing grew colder and stronger. He Yan had never seen her friend appear so fragile before.
“Alright, get some rest. Call me anytime if you need anything.”
He Yan watched her with concern for a while longer before finally getting up and leaving.
Rong Jing slept straight through until ten at night.
Stepping out of the bedroom, the living room was dimly lit with only one lamp on, cold and desolate. She walked to the fridge and opened it, there were plenty of ingredients inside, but she didn’t know how to cook any of them.
Because Lin Qile had always been the one to cook, the housekeeper had even been let go.
Annoying!
Her stomach growled even louder.
She gently pressed a hand to her abdomen. “Don’t worry, Mommy’s going to eat soon.”
Sitting down on the sofa, she pulled out her phone and ordered takeout.
The wait felt endless.
Just as she was nearly dozing off, she heard movement outside. She got up and went to the entryway, peering through the peephole, only to see Lin Qile!
Lin Qile asked, “Did the owner of this place order this?”
The delivery guy replied, “Yeah.”
Lin Qile said, “Give it to me.”
The delivery guy handed over the food and left.
Rong Jing watched as Lin Qile outside the door pulled out her phone, faced the mirror, and practiced smiling, seemingly trying to perfect the most flawless grin before finally approaching the door.
Knock, knock, knock!
The door sounded.
Rong Jing pressed her lips together. Just the thought of that heartless woman standing outside made her not want to open it.
But then,
Gurgle, gurgle.
She rubbed her stomach, telling herself inwardly, it was for the baby.
She still opened the door.
Sure enough, she was met with Lin Qile’s beaming face. “You must be hungry. I ran into the delivery guy downstairs just now. He said he was really busy and asked me to bring this up for you.”
What a clumsy lie.
