The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 37
Early morning.
Lin Qile helped Lin Xinrou pack her luggage. “Mom, it’s time to go to the airport.”
As the two stepped out of the villa, Lin Qile was about to get the car when she spotted a vehicle in the distance.
The more she looked, the more familiar it seemed. Her eyes lit up, and she quickly set down the suitcase, hurrying over to knock on the car window.
Rong Jing suddenly opened her eyes to find a face pressed against the glass. Slowly, she rolled down the window.
“Good morning! Why are you here so early?”
Rong Jing pursed her lips. She couldn’t possibly admit she had been sitting there all night, so she offered an excuse instead: “Aren’t you taking your mom to the airport? Get in.”
“Huh?” Lin Qile blinked in surprise but quickly nodded. “Oh! Okay, thank you!”
Rong Jing drove the mother and daughter to the airport.
Lin Xinrou approached Rong Jing and took her hand. “Rong Jing, I’ve heard from Lele. Thank you. If it weren’t for you, I might have only discovered Qi Song’s true colors on the day Lele and I were kicked out of the house. I’ve already signed the authorization. If you want to buy Lin Corporation, I have no objections just discuss it with Lele. As a mother, I only hope that, now that you two are married, you’ll treat her well.”
“Mom, don’t worry. The board has already approved the investment proposal for Lin Corporation. It won’t collapse.”
At this, Lin Qile turned to her in shock.
Investment?
Not an acquisition?
Lin Xinrou was also stunned, her lips parting in surprise before she choked up with a laugh and pulled Rong Jing into a hug. “Thank you… thank you so much.”
“You should go through security now, Mom. Have a good trip. Lele and I will restore Lin Corporation to its former state.”
“Okay, okay.”
Lin Xinrou nodded eagerly, her emotions overwhelming her. She held her daughter’s hand in one of hers and Rong Jing’s in the other. “You two must take good care of each other.”
Lin Qile wiped her mother’s tears. “No more crying, or you won’t look pretty anymore. Go on, have fun!”
“Mm.”
After watching Lin Xinrou pass through security, the two turned to leave.
Lin Qile couldn’t hold back her questions any longer. The moment they got into the car, she blurted out, “You’re really not planning to acquire Lin Corporation?”
“No.”
“I don’t understand business much, but Lin Corp is practically a hollow shell now. Investing would require a huge amount of money, right? Compared to the cost of acquisition, which is more expensive?”
Rong Jing shot her a glance. “Which is more cost-effective: saving a terminally ill patient or euthanizing them, holding a funeral, and then inheriting their assets?”
The answer was obvious.
Rong Jing rolled her eyes and stifled a yawn.
When they reached their car, Rong Jing opened the back door and climbed in. “You drive. Wake me up when we get to Lin Corp.”
“Got it!”
As she drove away from the airport, Lin Qile wanted to ask why Rong Jing had made this decision, but when she glanced in the rearview mirror, she saw Rong Jing already asleep, her head tilted to the side. She instinctively slowed the car.
Did she pull an all-nighter or something?
By the time they arrived at Lin Corporation, Rong Jing still hadn’t woken up. Lin Qile had no choice but to rouse her manually. “Wake up! The sun’s roasting your butt!”
Rong Jing opened her eyes, irritation flashing in her gaze at the disturbance.
Lin Qile quickly deflected responsibility. “Not my fault! We’re here, and you said to wake you up when we arrived.”
Rong Jing glanced out the window without a word, then pushed the door open and stepped out.
Lin Qile followed.
The two entered Lin Corporation and made their way to the executive floor, where Rong Jing’s team was already waiting. They hurried over at the sight of her. “President Rong.”
“How’s it going?”
“All the shareholders and executives of Lin Corporation have been contacted, and everyone is here.”
Rong Jing’s voice was cool and firm: “Then let’s begin the meeting!”
“Understood.”
Seven or eight people were busy, some making calls, others organizing reports. Rong Jing held a neatly compiled document, skimming through it at lightning speed.
Lin Qile stood to the side, feeling completely out of place.
Though Rong Jing had taught her many things, this was the first time she had seen Rong Jing in work mode.
Especially once they entered the conference room.
Among more than twenty shareholders and executives, Rong Jing was the only omega and the only woman. Sitting in the CEO’s seat, she held a pen in hand and debated fiercely with the room full of alphas.
“I understand that everyone currently lacks confidence in Lin Corporation. Those who wish to sell their shares can deal directly with me, my offer will be the highest market price. But once you leave this meeting, that price will no longer stand!”
Some hesitated, others were tempted. Everyone in the room had their own calculations.
She stood up, pressing her hands against the table.
“With Rong Corporation’s investment, the two companies will consolidate resources. Resource upgrades and exchanges won’t remain at the current scale. If you choose to exit now, all the better, we can reclaim the shares Qi Song has dispersed over the past twenty years. I thank you all in advance for your cooperation.”
“I’ll sell!”
“I think I’ll hold for now and keep my shares.”
“I’m keeping mine!”
In just one hour, the shaky shareholder structure of Lin Corporation underwent a massive transformation. Rong Jing became the largest shareholder, with Lin Xinrou as the second-largest. Together, their shares accounted for 68%, consolidating Lin Corporation’s previously fragmented ownership.
With the shareholder issue resolved, it was time for the executive meeting.
“Reopen negotiations with TG Group. Inform them that Lin Corporation is now stable and ready to discuss cooperation at any time.”
“Yes.”
“Manager Lin, you’ll oversee procurement. Given Lin Corporation’s current credibility issues, you must personally supervise every step. Respond to emails promptly to demonstrate our commitment to our partners.”
“Understood.”
After delegating tasks one by one, the executives filed out. Rong Jing leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes and massaging her temples with one hand.
Lin Qile had been sitting quietly in the corner, watching Rong Jing work.
Finally, she wholeheartedly agreed with Chen Nan’s earlier assessment of Rong Jing this wasn’t just an idol, this was a goddess!
It was true, a focused woman was the most captivating.
She was absolutely awe-inspiring!
And the stark contrast between her and Lin Qile’s own uselessness couldn’t have been more glaring.
No, she couldn’t keep wallowing like this!
Lin Qile was deeply shaken. Truly, without comparison, there was no sense of inadequacy. Rong Jing’s level of competence was something she could never hope to match, even in a lifetime!
“What are you thinking about?”
She snapped out of her daze to find Rong Jing staring at her.
“N-Nothing! I just think you’re amazing. You’re so at ease at Rong Corporation, but that could be chalked up to experience. Yet here at Lin Corporation, where you’ve just arrived, you’ve managed to organize everything flawlessly.”
“You’ll have to learn all of this too.”
She immediately shook her head, swaying like a rattle-drum.
Rong Jing frowned.
She quickly explained, “I’m just not cut out for managing a company. Neither am I, nor is my mother. If either of us got involved, it’d be a disaster for the company! I’ve decided since you don’t plan to buy out my mother’s shares, she’ll just be a passive shareholder from now on, living off dividends. That money will be more than enough for her to spend lavishly for the rest of her life.”
“What about you?”
Rong Jing was still rubbing her temples when Lin Qile walked over and stood behind her, reaching out to massage them for her. “Me? I should head back to school too. If I fail the final exam again, I really won’t be able to do my hospital internship.”
“You actually want to be a doctor?”
“Of course! It’s been my lifelong dream!”
Rong Jing, however, was unimpressed and snorted. “Which hospital would dare take a half-baked medical student like you?”
“You don’t believe me? Let’s make a bet!”
Rong Jing tilted her head back, slowly opening her eyes to meet Lin Qile’s gaze. “A bet?”
Lin Qile chuckled awkwardly. “If I pass the next exam, will you delete that video of me?”
Rong Jing narrowed her eyes and smiled. “And if you don’t?”
“Impossible!”
If she failed again, she wouldn’t be able to face herself. But seeing Rong Jing’s skeptical expression, she added, “If I don’t pass, you can do whatever you want with me!”
“Deal.”
“Then shake on it!”
They raised their hands and slapped them together in midair.
Once she’d set her goal, Lin Qile ate lunch at the company and headed straight to school.
Following the information she had, she found her dorm room.
Seeing the door slightly ajar, she pushed it open.
The three roommates inside turned to look at her simultaneously and froze in shock.
“Hey,” she greeted with a smile.
But the three of them stared at her as if she were a ghost.
“System!”
[Host, what’s wrong?]
Why are my college roommates looking at me like I’m some kind of monster?
[Host, the original owner only stayed in the dorm for two days, including the first day of school.]
Wow. That’s… really antisocial.
All three girls were alphas. One with a bowl cut and thick glasses adjusted her frames. “Lin Qile, you’re back?”
“I came to get my books. There’s an exam at the end of the month, after all.”
The moment she said this, the dorm fell into an eerie silence.
“System, what’s wrong now?”
[Host, the original owner never collected a single textbook and either failed or skipped every exam.]
“Failed… every single subject?!”
A girl with a high ponytail scoffed. “How rare. Deciding to study hard in your final semester. Did your family go bankrupt and run out of money to bribe the school for your diploma?”
That was harsh.
But hard to refute, the original owner really had been like that.
Taking a deep breath, Lin Qile forced a friendly smile. “Yeah, so I’ve got to work hard this time. I haven’t been back to the dorm in ages. Which spot is mine? I might move back in for a while.”
The petite girl, who hadn’t spoken until now, hurriedly cleared a pile of things from a desk against the wall. Once she started, the other two followed suit.
Lin Qile glanced at the bunk bed and desk, it had practically been turned into a storage space.
Once everything was cleared, she walked over, pulled out the chair, and sat down. On the desk was a copy of Internal Medicine.
How nostalgic!
She reached for it, but the ponytailed girl snatched it away. “That’s mine.”
Her hand now empty, Lin Qile rubbed her fingers together. She’d come back to get her books for studying, but this was turning into a hassle. She looked up at her three roommates.
All of them ignored her, going about their own business.
Hmm… what to do?
Ah!
She took out her phone, scrolled to Wu Xue’s number, and sent a message: I’m back at school and want to prepare for exams, but I don’t have any books. Can you send me a list of what I need so I can buy them?
The moment the message was sent, the phone rang.
Wu Xue’s excited voice came through: “You’re back at school?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m visiting a friend at your school today. Since our exams are over, I can bring you my textbooks. Even though we’re at different schools, most of the courses should be similar. I’ll also ask around about the differences so you can fill in the gaps.”
“Isn’t that too much trouble for you?”
“Not at all. I should be at your school by six. If you feel bad, you can treat me to your cafeteria.”
“No problem.”
“Great, see you then.”
After hanging up, Lin Qile was a little surprised. These days, such enthusiastic classmates were rare.
Since Wu Xue was lending her books, there was no need to rush.
The tense atmosphere in the dorm made her uncomfortable, so she decided to take a walk and familiarize herself with the campus.
Little did she know, the moment she left, the dorm erupted in whispers.
“Why is she back?”
“Is she here to compete for the internship spots?”
“With all the drama in her family and already married, she still wants to fight us for internships? Rich alphas are so annoying!”
“Exactly!”
Lin Qile could only steel herself and pretend not to hear. After all, the original owner of this body was hardly likable.
By evening, after touring the campus, Lin Qile received a call from Wu Xue saying she had arrived.
She hurried to the school gate.
There, Wu Xue stood holding two large bags filled with books.
“This is too much trouble. Did you bring all of them? You could’ve just sent me a list, and I’d buy them myself. This is way too much.”
Wu Xue smiled and shook her head. “It’s no trouble. These books have my notes. You rarely attended class, and the professors’ key points.”
Realizing she might have misspoken, Wu Xue blushed furiously. “I-I didn’t mean to look down on you.”
“Relax, I’m not that sensitive. It’s true I didn’t attend many classes, but I’ve had private tutoring. Don’t worry about me.”
“Yeah, I know you’re nothing like what they say, some lazy, good-for-nothing. Lin Qile, I believe you’ll become an excellent doctor!”
Wu Xue raised a fist in encouragement.
“You’re the first person to believe in me. Keep it up too maybe we’ll even be colleagues someday!”
Unintentional as the words were, Wu Xue’s cheeks turned pink. “It’d be great if we could intern together.”
“Let me take these books back to the dorm first, then I’ll treat you to dinner. Just the cafeteria feels like I’m shortchanging you.”
Wu Xue grinned sweetly. “Then make it two meals!”
“Ten meals wouldn’t be a problem!”
Wu Xue’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
Before Lin Qile could respond, a cold voice cut in from behind. “Hah, how generous of you.”
Both turned to see Rong Jing staring at them with icy disdain.
“Here I am, working hard at Lin Corp to earn money so you can lavish meals on others. Lin Qile, you’re truly something.” The last words were practically hissed through clenched teeth.
To Lin Qile, it felt ominous.
Why did she suddenly feel like the villain was about to snap?
