The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 20.1
Ji Zhao froze on the spot, while Rong Wanning, an actress, couldn’t even maintain her usual composed expression.
“Auntie, are you joking?”
Rong Jing raised her hand, fingers tightly interlaced with Lin Qile’s, under the spotlight. With a slight lift of her eyelids and a faintly mocking smile at the corner of her lips, she said, “Is this something to joke about?”
“But Lin Qile, she—”
“Wanning, though you’re not a Rong by blood, you should still understand the family’s rules.”
Rong Jing’s gaze was piercing.
Rong Wanning’s lips trembled, but under the pressure, she reluctantly muttered, “Auntie.”
Tsk!
Lin Qile suddenly felt a wave of warmth flowing from the top of her head down to the soles of her feet utterly satisfying!
Seeing the venomous look in Ji Zhao’s eyes, she couldn’t resist adding provocatively, “What about you? Aren’t you going to call her ‘Auntie’?”
“Auntie!”
Lin Qile could practically hear the grinding of teeth. She beamed. “Good, both of you are so well-behaved. Auntie will give you big red envelopes later.”
Rong Jing spoke up, “Let’s go. Today’s spotlight isn’t meant for us.”
“Sure.”
Hand in hand, the two walked away.
Ji Zhao’s face twisted with fury.
You stole the entire show, and now you’re pretending it wasn’t about you?
The crowd below erupted.
“Rong Jing and Lin Qile? Holy crap, this is explosive news! I need to get the first scoop!”
“Rong Wanning might be a celebrity, but Rong Jing is the heiress of the Rong Group’s billions, a genius prodigy! How did she end up with a good-for-nothing like Lin Qile?”
“Both the aunt and the niece? Damn, Lin Qile’s got guts!”
As Rong Jing and Lin Qile stepped out of the wedding venue, reporters swarmed after them. The host coughed awkwardly. “The ceremony will now proceed to the next step…”
Watching the crowd disperse, even the host felt the awkwardness.
At the main table, the parents of both families wore mixed expressions.
Rong Yihua’s face was complex while she was thrilled her daughter had found a partner, the choice was… unexpected.
Bai Jiao sipped her wine, watching the drama unfold while occasionally stealing glances at Qi Song at the guest table.
Lin Qile stole a glance at Rong Jing: Say something! Who said they’d handle it, and now they’re dumping the problem back on me?
Rong Jing met her gaze and took a step forward. “Aunt Lin, President Qi, my intention to marry Qile is serious.”
“Seriously joking? Your niece just cheated on my daughter, and now you want to marry her? Does your Rong family think my daughter’s reputation isn’t ruined enough?”
Qi Song spoke up, “I also object to this marriage. Rong Jing, you were almost my daughter’s elder. Aren’t you afraid of public criticism if you marry her now?”
“I don’t care. I’ll have the online news taken down and clear the false statements Wanning posted. That’s all I can do.”
Lin Qile watched as Rong Jing stood before her mother like an obedient student and found it amusing. So even the scheming Rong Jing had someone she feared.
“No matter what you say, I won’t agree to this marriage.”
Yes, Mom! Strongly oppose it! Lin Qile cheered inwardly for Lin Xinrou.
Seeing this, Rong Jing calmly said, “But, Lin Qile forced me into bed.”
“You!”
Lin Qile couldn’t believe Rong Jing was twisting the truth. How could she be so shameless?
Rong Jing turned to her, a threatening glint in her eyes, and Lin Qile instantly deflated.
“You…” Lin Xinrou stared at her in shock. “What did you say?”
Qi Song was equally stunned. “Qile!”
“We never used protection. I’m afraid I might be pregnant.”
Then she glanced at someone who’d been watching the drama unfold from the sidelines. “If you refuse to marry me now, it would count as coercing an omega, a serious crime.”
Lin Qile turned to stone. Every sensory organ in her body seemed to malfunction at that moment.
So, so devious! How could she twist black into white like this?
“You, Lele, come here.”
Lin Xinrou pulled her daughter aside with a complicated expression. “What’s really going on? Did you stop liking Rong Wanning because of her?”
“Mom, I—”
Out of the corner of her eye, Lin Qile saw Rong Jing pick up her phone, swipe the camera lens, and give her a faint smile.
A threat! This was a blatant threat!
“Lele, I’ve always said you don’t need to be outstanding, but you must take responsibility for your actions. How could you, sigh!”
Qi Song stood up. “Lin Qile, you’ve truly disappointed us. Your usual willfulness was one thing, but to break the law like this? You’ve shamed our family.”
“I—I—”
Rong Jing stepped forward. “Though she forced me at first, we’ve since fallen in love. Aunt Lin, please allow us to marry.”
After a moment’s hesitation, Lin Xinrou sighed. “Well, if that’s how it is, then marry.”
“Xinrou!”
Qi Song called her name disapprovingly, but Lin Xinrou went to her lover’s side. “Since they’ve already, we shouldn’t interfere. Children have their own paths.”
Then she looked at the two. “Are you both truly sure about this marriage?”
“Yes.”
Rong Jing nodded firmly, while Lin Qile gave a forced, “Y-yes, I guess.”
“Then do as you wish.”
Lin Qile whimpered silently. Why was Mom so quick to accept this?
Shouldn’t they be completely opposed to the marriage between these two?
Lin Xinrou looked at her daughter with both affection and frustration, “What’s gotten into you? Don’t think just because I spoil you that I won’t stand for what’s right. Since you’ve already been intimate with someone, you need to take responsibility!”
“Rong Jing, my agreeing to your marriage with my daughter doesn’t mean I’ll overlook the damage your family has done to her reputation. I will never accept Rong Wanning as family.”
“I understand, Auntie.”
Lin Xinrou nodded in satisfaction at Rong Jing’s obedient response. “Then pick a date. I’ll have a good talk with your mother about your wedding plans.”
After leaving the teahouse.
Lin Qile leaned against a pillar, looking utterly dejected.
System!
[Host, I’m here.]
Is Rong Jing really determined to marry me? Why is she so insistent on this marriage? I don’t believe any of the reasons she gave!
[Well, she is the main antagonist after all. Her thought process might be unconventional.]
Do you think she’s also discovered Bai Jiao and Qi Song’s affair? Is she marrying me to make me pay for my mother’s sins, to torture me as revenge against Qi Song?
[I don’t know.]
Why is it that whenever it’s about Rong Jing, you never have any answers?
[I can’t say. She’s the main antagonist. If I told you everything, it would violate the rules. If you can’t complete this world’s mission, you’ll die, and I’ll be punished too.]
But why hasn’t my score increased at all after all this time?
[Rewards are triggered. Since you haven’t received any points yet, it means the mission isn’t complete. You can’t keep focusing on side quests your main mission is to become the protagonist and redeem the antagonist.]
“Hey, are you alone?”
She turned to see a girl smiling brightly at her.
Out of politeness, she smiled back. “Hi.”
“She’s not alone.”
An arm slowly wrapped around her waist as Rong Jing appeared from behind, giving the girl a cold look. “Can I help you?”
“N-no, sorry to bother you.”
Once the girl left, Rong Jing immediately released her, a hint of displeasure flashing in her eyes. “Lin Qile, your family has already agreed to our marriage. From today onward, put a stop to your messy lifestyle!”
“What messy lifestyle?”
Rong Jing threatened darkly, “Behave. If you dare cause any scandals, I’ll make sure you regret ever thinking about cheating on me.”
“But, didn’t you say this was a fake marriage?”
“Even if it’s fake, you’re still my doll. I have standards. If you touch someone else, be prepared to lose whatever part of you made contact.”
Lin Qile: “…”
Rong Jing turned to leave. “I’m heading out. Once the new place is ready, you’ll move in.”
“I’m not moving!”
Rong Jing raised her phone. “Then I’ll call your mother.”
“You, how can you use my mom to threaten me!”
She stomped her foot in frustration as she watched Rong Jing walk away.
Rong Jing had just arrived home when she found Rong Wanning waiting at her doorstep. “Auntie!”
“What is it?”
“Auntie, what’s wrong with you? Why are you marrying Lin Qile? You know how terrible she is! You’ve always loved me the most, why would you marry the person I hate most?”
Rong Wanning reached out tearfully to grab Rong Jing’s hand, but she avoided the touch.
“You know I’ve always doted on you the most, Wanning. So why did you lie to me?”
Rong Wanning froze, tears still clinging to her lashes. “Auntie…”
“You clearly met Ji Zhao later, so why claim you knew her first? You asked me to stand up for you while hiding your pregnancy from me.”
“I… I…”
Rong Jing let out a cold laugh. “For Ji Zhao, you disregarded the Rong family’s reputation and publicly severed ties with the Lins. For Ji Zhao, you said you’d rather die or leave the family than lose her child. For Ji Zhao, you completely abandoned the home that raised you for over twenty years. Since you never treated us as family to protect, why should I protect you?”
“Little Aunt…”
“If you only recognize Ji Zhao now, don’t call me ‘Little Aunt’ anymore. You’re married now, Mrs. Ji. There’s no need for you to keep running back to the Rong residence.”
Ignoring Wanning’s stunned expression, Rong Jing strode through the family gates.
Lin Qile had barely returned home when Xu Jiao arrived.
“Now I finally know who the ‘unreasonable little princess’ is,” Xu Jiao sprawled across her bed, grinning mischievously at the figure slumped on the sofa. “Rong Jing.”
“Yeah.”
Lin Qile curled deeper into the couch, the prospect of their fake marriage and cohabitation casting a dark cloud over her mood.
Xu Jiao propped her head up, eyes sparkling with gossip. “I truly never imagined you’d get involved with her. I guarantee no one saw this pairing coming, it’s practically horrifying. Rong Jing isn’t from our circle at all.”
“What circle is that?”
“The ‘play through life, never need to strive, money solves everything’ circle. Rong Jing’s different. She’s a few years older, and I’ve heard my parents gush about her achievements since childhood, it’s nauseating. Despite being an omega, they say she outperformed every alpha in her class from middle school through university.”
Lin Qile lifted her head mournfully. “It’s just exams. I could do that too.”
“Keep dreaming. After four years of medical school, I bet if we pulled out your old tests right now, Rong Jing, a complete layman would still score higher than you!”
Lin Qile: “…”
Was this necessary?
That was the original host! Even if she wasn’t top of her class, she’d been a decent student!
Xu Jiao leaned closer. “So tell me, how did you pluck this unattainable flower? I can’t imagine what she sees in you.”
“She pursued me first.”
Xu Jiao gaped for three full seconds before sitting bolt upright. “Don’t joke. Rong Jing chased you? If that’s true, I’ll—” She grabbed her phone. “I’ll eat this phone!”
Lin Qile’s eyes lit up. “You promise?”
“Absolutely! There’s no way Rong Jing would pursue you!”
“Just wait!”
She immediately dialed Rong Jing’s number.
“Yes?”
Rong Jing’s voice remained cool as ever, something Lin Qile had grown accustomed to. “You want me to move in with you, have you prepared our marital home yet?”
“That’s not your concern.”
Xu Jiao’s eyes bulged as Lin Qile smirked. “Just asking. School starts soon, and if it’s too far, I’ll have to live on campus.”
A pause. “Understood.”
“One more thing.” She nervously cleared her throat. “Rong Jing, if you want to marry me, will your mother and mom agree? Could they possibly object to our marriage?”
Holding her phone, Rong Jing froze for a second before glancing toward her mother in the study. Leaning against the wall, she tilted her head to reveal the elegant curve of her neck, her expression softening slightly at Lin Qile’s words. “Oh? You’re actually worried about this?”
“Of course I’m worried. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“No need for you to worry. I’ll handle it.”
Rong Jing hung up the phone and walked casually toward the study, her mind lingering on the thought that usually carefree person was actually concerned about their wedding? She’d expected the call to be about some trouble.
Pushing open the study door, she spoke firmly, “Mother, I’m serious about marrying Lin Qile. I won’t regret this decision!”
On the other end.
Lin Qile shook her phone with a smug expression. “Go on, eat it. I’ve never seen anyone eat a phone before. I’m waiting for your review of the taste.”
“You, she really is the one chasing you?” Xu Jiao looked utterly disbelieving.
“Of course! Don’t change the subject, hurry up and eat!”
“Lin-jie!”
