The Villainous Sister-in-law Mistakenly Marked as the Heroine (Transmigration) - Chapter 18
Xu Jiao overheard and immediately perked up, eagerly leaning in with gossipy excitement, lowering her voice: “A hotel? Damn, who’s inviting you to a hotel?”
“Lin Qile, if you’re not here in half an hour, you’ll face the consequences!”
With that threat, Rong Jing angrily hung up the phone and flopped onto the hotel bed.
Hearing the dial tone, Lin Qile panicked. The fury in that voice wasn’t even concealed, who had managed to piss off this young mistress?
“Qile, spill it. Who invited you to a hotel? And in broad daylight, too!”
“It’s a long story.”
Xu Jiao smirked mischievously. “I’ve got all the time in the world. Out with it! I thought you were heartbroken over Rong Wanning and came to comfort you, but turns out you’ve got something going on!”
“Stop gossiping. Get out of the car first.”
“What?! You’re ditching your childhood friend of over a decade on the side of the road for your ‘unreasonable little princess’?”
“Take a cab back. I don’t have time.”
“Damn, are you an M or something? Tamed this well?”
Lin Qile rolled her eyes. “Get out, get out! I’ll explain later if I get the chance, but it’s definitely not what you’re thinking. I… have no choice here.”
After shoving Xu Jiao out of the car, she immediately turned around and sped toward the hotel.
Thirty-five minutes later.
Knock knock knock!
The hotel room door opened.
Rong Jing stood there in a bathrobe, her expression dark. She turned and walked back inside without a word.
Lin Qile closed the door behind her and quickly explained, “I’m five minutes late, but you didn’t ask where I was earlier. Half an hour was really pushing it.”
Rong Jing sat on the edge of the bed, crossing one long, pale leg over the other. The movement caused the bathrobe to part slightly, revealing a tantalizing glimpse of skin.
Lin Qile’s pulse quickened. The contrast between Rong Jing’s icy demeanor and her unconsciously seductive movements felt like being caught between fire and ice.
She stepped closer.
Leaning down, she murmured near Rong Jing’s ear, “Shall we begin?”
Just as her lips were about to brush Rong Jing’s cheek, she was abruptly pushed away.
Lin Qile froze.
Rong Jing suddenly stood and rushed into the bathroom, followed by the sound of retching.
“What’s wrong?”
Lin Qile moved toward the bathroom door but was sharply stopped by a low command: “Don’t come in!”
“Okay, okay, I won’t.”
She poured a glass of water and grabbed some tissues, waiting by the door.
When Rong Jing finally emerged, pale and exhausted, she blinked in surprise at the sight of Lin Qile holding the water and tissues. After a brief pause, she took the glass and rinsed her mouth.
“Are you under too much stress? Psychological pressure can trigger nausea. If this happens often, you should get checked at the hospital.”
Lin Qile watched her with concern.
Rong Jing shot her a look as if she were an idiot before walking back to the bed and sitting down.
Lin Qile followed. “So… are we still doing this? Your pheromones seem stable.”
“Marry me.”
“Are you feeling off? I’ve resigned myself to being your living stress-reliever, but that’s only during your heat cycles, Other times.”
Lin Qile’s rambling cut off abruptly.
Her pupils dilated slowly, her movements seeming to lag as if in slow motion.
“What did you say?”
Rong Jing leaned back on her hands, tilting her chin up. “Fake marry me.”
“No!”
“I have three reasons. First, the alliance between the Lin and Rong families through marriage has been discussed for three years, it can’t be canceled just because of what happened between you and Wanning. Second, I’ve reached marriageable age, and my family is anxious about it. Third, my pheromones currently only recognize yours.”
“I refuse!”
Rong Jing stood up and approached her. “Your refusal is invalid!”
“Rong Jing, don’t think that just because I usually go along with you, I have no principles. Marriage is sacred, I’ll only marry the person I love in this lifetime!”
“Is that so?”
Rong Jing smiled, a cold edge to her expression as she lifted Lin Qile’s chin. “Then what if, on your wedding day, your beloved and all the guests see you lying in bed with a debauched expression? Would she still love you? Would the guests still bless you?”
“You, you’re threatening me with this again! Can’t you come up with something new?!”
“Old tricks work just fine. Lin Qile, until I tire of you, you’ll do as I say.”
“You! You!”
Her face flushed red with anger.
How could there be such a despicable omega in this world?!
Rong Jing suddenly took a deep breath, cupping her face and pulling her closer. “Why won’t you agree? Am I not beautiful enough?”
Lin Qile pressed her lips together in silence.
“Lin Qile, actually, a fake marriage with me would bring you many benefits.”
“Hmph.”
“You can ask me questions anytime you want from now on.”
Her eyes flickered that did sound like a benefit.
Seeing her waver, Rong Jing pressed on: “If we fake a marriage, we won’t need to meet at hotels anymore. You won’t have to worry about someone discovering our relationship every time.”
That was true.
Wait, no!
She suddenly pushed Rong Jing away. “If you hadn’t threatened me, none of these troubles would exist! As for teaching me things, I’m perfectly satisfied with how things are now. Besides, my friend is back, I can ask them for help from now on!”
Rong Jing narrowed her eyes.
So she wouldn’t yield to either soft or hard tactics?
“Fine, don’t agree then. From this moment on, we have no relationship whatsoever. Miss Lin, whatever happens to your reputation from now on, don’t come crying to me.”
Rong Jing turned to change her clothes.
Watching her change, Lin Qile began to panic.
Was she serious or just bluffing?
Once dressed, Rong Jing headed for the door. “For old times’ sake, I’ll give you some advice: leave the country. Never come back. You’re socially dead now.”
“Wait, I agree!”
Rong Jing’s hand on the doorknob tightened. She slowly turned back. “Oh?”
“But my family’s impression of the Rong family is at rock bottom now. They’ll never agree.”
This was her last lifeline!
Her mother would never let her marry into the Rong family again!
Rong Jing smiled sweetly. “That? A minor issue. I’ll handle it.”
“Lin Qile, do you take Rong Jing to be your wife, to be bullied, oppressed, and confined by her from this day forward, to be a dutiful inflatable doll?”
All the guests below the stage smiled and cheered, clapping enthusiastically.
Lin Qile felt as though countless needles were pricking her feet.
“Say ‘I do.'”
Rong Jing grinned at her, but her eyes were full of threats. Lin Qile could even hear Rong Jing’s inner voice: Say yes, slave. From now on, you’ll serve me until the day you die.
“NO!!! I REFUSE!!!!”
Lin Qile suddenly sat up, gasping for breath, only to realize she had been having a nightmare.
Ever since that day when Rong Jing forced her to agree to a fake marriage, she had been plagued by nightmares every night each one filled with visions of being tormented and exploited by Rong Jing.
