The Villainess Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 32
“No!” Yun Chuanzhi leaped up as if by reflex.
Sentences she had heard describing Bai Fenghe’s legendary depravity echoed in her mind. Thinking this is bad, Yun Chuanzhi turned to flee, only to have two soft silk ribbons wrap around her wrists and yank her back through the air.
It’s over, it’s over. Yun Chuanzhi struggled for a while before finding herself back by the bedside. She clutched the white silk, standing unsteadily, her heart full of lamentation.
Reasonably, Bai Fenghe shouldn’t have been interested in a girl like “Cui Ergou.” Could it be that because she had been eating so many medicinal pills since her arrival, her once withered body had filled out like a blooming flower bud, accidentally catching this beast’s eye?
What a sin. But if Bai Fenghe was set on it, how could she escape? It was better to just close her eyes, grit her teeth, and endure it until it passed.
At this thought, Yun Chuanzhi resigned herself to fate with a sigh. She spread her arms and collapsed onto the bed, saying despondently: “Come on then.”
The ribbons around her wrists uncoiled like snakes and whipped away. The cold air brushed her skin like ice as they retreated. Bai Fenghe stood by the bed in silence. After a moment, she used two fingers to pinch the silk cord of Yun Chuanzhi’s waistband, lifted her up, turned her around, and let go.
Yun Chuanzhi went from lying horizontally across the bed to being aligned vertically, rolling into the inner side of the mattress.
“A little girl who just reached her hair-pinning ceremony, what on earth is your head filled with?” Bai Fenghe’s tone sounded perplexed. After speaking coldly, she lay down beside her without undressing.
So that’s not what she meant? Yun Chuanzhi felt a wave of relief. She sat up with a start, diligently grabbed a corner of the quilt, and pulled it tightly up to Bai Fenghe’s shoulders.
As she tucked her in, she said softly: “The wind is strong at night and your constitution is weak, Sect Leader. Be careful not to catch a cold.”
Bai Fenghe, wrapped in the bedding like a silkworm cocoon, reached her limit: “It is midsummer, Cui Ergou. Was your brain kicked by a donkey?”
Hearing this, Yun Chuanzhi hurriedly pulled the quilt back: “My apologies.”
After a few rounds of this, Bai Fenghe began to sweat. She performed an immortal hand seal within her sleeve to finally dispel the heat.
“Go to sleep,” she commanded in a low voice, suppressing her irritation.
Yun Chuanzhi didn’t dare move again. Her body went stiff as a board, and she closed her eyes nervously.
Yun Chuanzhi rarely shared a bed with anyone, let alone Bai Fenghe. Therefore, while her eyes were closed, her ears were pricked up like a rabbit’s, never resting for a second.
At first, she heard the whistling wind outside. The window frames were in disrepair; a wooden slat seemed to have fallen off, and the wind made it drum against the wall with a thump-thump sound. Then the door was blown open, creaking as it swung back and forth.
Lingshui has had a hard time all these years, living in this dump with her whole family. No wonder she worked so hard to enter Mount Buxi, Yun Chuanzhi thought randomly.
Finally unable to take it anymore, she sat up and flicked a trace of spiritual energy toward the door. Only then did the door slowly close tight.
My meager spiritual energy, wasted on such trivial matters. Yun Chuanzhi lay back down. Now the door was quiet, but the sound of the woman’s breathing beside her became an unstoppable force in her ears.
In the middle of the night, why did she insist on sharing a bed? Does she not find me repulsive anymore? The more Yun Chuanzhi thought about it, the more confused she became. She eventually opened her eyes to steal a glance at the woman.
The night was dim and the lamps were out. Only a sliver of moonlight from a crack in the window landed on the bridge of her high nose, looking like a speck of snow on a mountain peak. Below her nose, her lips were tightly pressed, naturally red without any makeup.
Actually, when Bai Fenghe wasn’t smiling, she did look somewhat like a celestial being. It was just that when she smiled, her eyes became too wicked, like ink dripping into clear water, diluting the grace of her features.
The summer night was muggy, but her body was cool and refreshing. Yun Chuanzhi boldly nudged closer to her, stretching her legs comfortably.
I’ve got it. When I return to the Gundan Sect, I’ll put a block of eternal ice on my bed. Wouldn’t that have the same effect as Bai Fenghe? If I get too hot, I can even hug it.
Yun Chuanzhi’s thoughts wandered further, and her remaining sleepiness vanished. She started playing out grand dramas in her mind. Just as the play reached the part where she was beating up Bai Fenghe, an unusually sharp intake of breath diverted her thoughts.
She silently turned and sat up. The gasp came from the woman beside her. The night was too thick to see her expression, so Yun Chuanzhi pulled out a small lamp that didn’t require fire, lit it, and hung it on the bedpost.
Bai Fenghe’s features were exposed in the dim light. Her face hadn’t changed much, but a layer of thin sweat was visibly seeping from her forehead.
Could she be having a nightmare? Yun Chuanzhi reached out to check her breathing. It was highly irregular: at times like a violent storm, at other times as calm as if she had stopped breathing altogether.
Someone as arrogant as Bai Fenghe can suffer from nightmares? Yun Chuanzhi unexpectedly thought of the Shadow Demon’s illusion. The Bai Fenghe in that illusion had exposed a great deal of vulnerability, though how much of it was sincere or feigned was unknown.
Forget it, I can’t help her anyway. Yun Chuanzhi lay back down, closed her eyes, and then snapped them open again.
While Bai Fenghe was just having a nightmare, her body had turned into a frozen block, blowing out gusts of cold wind. The original heat in the room was pushed out the window, replaced by a bone-chilling frost.
Yun Chuanzhi was lying too close. Her nostrils were nearly frosted over with ice from her own breath. Frozen to the point of leaping up, she couldn’t take it anymore.
She wanted to shake Bai Fenghe awake but hesitated. What if she had “waking-up rage”? If she got angry and annihilated her, that wouldn’t do.
After much thought, Yun Chuanzhi looked herself over, found a relatively smooth corner of her garment, and tore it off, using a small knife to cut it into a square piece of cloth.
She then pulled out a charcoal pencil and, by the light of the tiny lamp, began to draw a Soul-Soothing Nightmare-Suppressing Talisman. Although sleep charms were common, this was a high-level version that was extremely taxing on the mind. Years ago, Sister Guiren had spent over a month teaching her this specific one.
Back then, she missed her parents every day and was often terrified by evil spirits, suffering from nightmares every night. But once Sister Guiren drew a talisman for her to wear on her chest, she never had a nightmare again.
Amidst her nostalgia, the talisman was finished. Yun Chuanzhi blinked her blurry eyes, sewed the cloth into the shape of a small purse, and tucked it under Bai Fenghe’s pillow.
“There, that should do it, Ancestor,” Yun Chuanzhi whispered. She wrapped herself in the quilt and lay on her side. To help Bai Fenghe escape the nightmare faster, she began to recite a hypnotic mantra while rhythmically patting Bai Fenghe’s arm.
“The world ebbs and flows, better to wake from the dream; all laws leave no trace, the spirit terrace remains clear…”
Whether it was the hypnotic mantra or the effect of the talisman, the chill on Bai Fenghe’s body slowly dissipated. The surrounding frost turned into damp water droplets, which were then scattered by the warm breeze from the window.
Yun Chuanzhi’s mumbling came to an abrupt halt. The hypnotic mantra had worked on herself. Her hand fell limp onto the crook of Bai Fenghe’s arm as she sank into a deep sleep, even snuggling closer to Bai Fenghe in her slumber.
Instead, it was Bai Fenghe who opened her eyes. Complex thoughts swirled within them as she stared at the top of the bed for a long while before turning her head toward the girl.
In the fading light, the girl’s sleeping face was blurry. These past days, she had grown like a green bamboo shoot; her body was much longer than when they first met, and her cheeks were as full as ripe fruit. Although she still looked thin, she had gained the brightness of a youth.
“Bold girl, let go already,” Bai Fenghe said. But the soundly sleeping Yun Chuanzhi couldn’t hear her. In her greed for the coolness, she even hugged the arm tighter.
Bai Fenghe gave a tsk sound and lifted her arm to forcefully shake her off. However, the moment she shook her off, those two paws sniffed out the scent and felt their way back, wrapping around her again.
After several repetitions, even Bai Fenghe grew tired.
She could only lower her hand and stare at Yun Chuanzhi for a moment before looking away.
Outside the window, the sound of the wind changed its tone slightly, as if someone were passing by. Others might not have heard it, but Bai Fenghe could. She curled her lips into a smirk and silently closed her eyes.
The scent of knockout incense pierced through the window paper and quickly spread through the room. Bai Fenghe easily held her breath. A silent immortal spell landed on Yun Chuanzhi, and the girl’s breathing sound vanished.
The intruder, unaware of the changes in the room, tapped the window. Seeing no response, they boldly climbed inside.
Clumsy footsteps and unstable breathing; clearly not a cultivator. Bai Fenghe kept her eyes closed and waited. The person simply circled the room once and then left.
The window creaked shut. Only after the intruder departed did the chirping of insects outside resume. The arms that had been wrapped around Bai Fenghe’s arm suddenly let go, and Yun Chuanzhi sat up, supporting herself on the bedding.
“Who was it?” she asked in surprise.
“You’re awake.” Bai Fenghe swept a glance at her, smiling sharply. “Not hugging anymore?”
“Could it be a petty thief? Lingshui’s house is poor as dirt; what is there to steal?” Yun Chuanzhi pretended not to hear her words and pushed forward with a straight face.
Nothing was more shocking than waking up to find herself hugging Bai Fenghe. Just then, the intruder had been walking past the bed, so she had to maintain the hugging position without daring to breathe.
Fortunately, Bai Fenghe didn’t scold her. She only looked at her meaningfully with a smile for a long time before standing up and saying: “It likely wasn’t a petty thief.”
Yun Chuanzhi exhaled, rolled off the bed to light the lamp, and then opened the window. The night breeze rushed in, clearing the knockout incense from the room.
“You certainly woke up fast,” Bai Fenghe said plainly, her meaning unclear.
Yun Chuanzhi didn’t dare reply. Although she had changed bodies, the alertness of her previous life was branded into her heart. Her five senses had degraded significantly, but she could still hear when someone passed by her bed.
Bai Fenghe didn’t question her further. Instead, she walked gracefully around the small room, stopping at an old red pearwood cabinet. She reached out and took an ivory-carved waist token from the top.
The characters on the token were hard to decipher, but it was clearly a valuable item. Visible spiritual energy swirled within it. Bai Fenghe held it and examined it for a moment before tossing it to Yun Chuanzhi.
Yun Chuanzhi caught it and turned it over in her hands. “This is a cultivator’s item, and a very old one at that. It should be a family heirloom.”
There was no dust on the token; it didn’t seem like something that had been sitting in this room for years.
“Did the intruder bring it just now?” Yun Chuanzhi asked.
“Your immortal talent is dull, but your brain isn’t stupid.” Bai Fenghe walked to the door. “Inevitably, someone is going to die tonight. Now that even the stolen goods have been specifically brought to This Seat, they are determined to frame me for this.”
So this thing was stripped from a dead person. No wonder Bai Fenghe wouldn’t hold it herself. Yun Chuanzhi moved to throw it away, but Bai Fenghe looked back at her, and she silently lowered her hand.
“Open the door. This Seat wants to see who dies today.” Bai Fenghe tilted her chin slightly, signaling Yun Chuanzhi to step forward.
Yun Chuanzhi was already used to her sudden demands and didn’t take it to heart. She simply wrapped the item in a handkerchief, tucked it into her blouse, and stepped forward quickly to pull the door open for Bai Fenghe.
Bowing, she said: “After you, Sect Leader.”
Bai Fenghe lifted her foot, but then suddenly remembered something. She stopped and signaled for Yun Chuanzhi to go first. Yun Chuanzhi didn’t bother wondering what her behavior meant; she gave a yawn and walked out the door.
Only after Yun Chuanzhi’s back passed under the eaves did Bai Fenghe put her hands behind her back. A faint purple light glowed, and the purse that had been pressed under her pillow fell silently into her palm.
Bai Fenghe tucked the purse away carefully before giving a light cough and stepping into the night.
