The Villainess Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 24
The sound of the bed shattering exploded in her ears. Yun Chuanzhi’s waist first slammed into the mahogany eave at the top, and then she plummeted into the fluffy bed curtains. Though there were quilts cushioning her, the pain was so intense she nearly felt half-dead.
Not to mention Bai Fenghe was pressing her entire weight onto her. Yun Chuanzhi saw stars, and it took a long moment for her to recover her senses.
At the same time, the restraints on the three of them vanished. Ling Shui shouted a warning of “Be careful!” and thrust her long whip out straight like a sword toward the Shadow Demon. The Shadow Demon, however, showed no fear; its massive body acted like a vortex, swallowing the whip whole.
It then opened its bottomless maw and let out a low growl, preparing to devour Ling Shui.
“Cheng Jinshu, extinguish the light!” Yun Chuanzhi endured the suffocating pain and shouted. Instantly, the light in the room died with a snap, and the previously noisy chamber fell into a dead silence.
It was so quiet one could hear everyone’s breathing. Yun Chuanzhi gasped for air, pushing at the soft body atop her. “Hey, Bai Fenghe!”
The woman was currently sprawled across her thin chest. Separated only by flimsy layers of clothing, her breathing was slow and steady.
Did she really pass out? Yun Chuanzhi pushed her shoulders to flip her over, rolling her off the bed, and wiped her lips where they had just brushed against Bai Fenghe’s cheek.
“Why is she wearing so much rouge?” she muttered softly.
“Ling Shui, are you still alive?” Cheng Jinshu spoke up timidly from a corner. Hearing Ling Shui’s affirmative voice, she finally let out a long sigh of relief.
“This is terrifying; we must leave this place at once.” Still shaken, Cheng Jinshu groped her way toward the door in the dark. She reached out to pull it open but was stopped as Ling Shui grabbed her wrist.
“Wait, someone is coming,” Ling Shui said in a low voice. She suddenly reached out, and the whip that had been swallowed by the Shadow Demon snapped back into her hand. She then leaned back as if lying down, narrowly dodging a short arrow that shot through the crack in the door.
The long whip moved through the darkness like a swimming dragon, intercepting a short arrow just before it could strike Yun Chuanzhi.
Beside them, Cheng Jinshu couldn’t see, but she could hear what was happening. Her voice carried a hint of a sob. “Again? Just what kind of people have we offended?”
“I’m afraid it isn’t us who offended them, but the Sect Leader.” Ling Shui steadied herself. She stepped toward the bed and reached out to pull up the aching Yun Chuanzhi. “You and Cheng Jinshu take the Sect Leader and go first. These people are coming with hostile intent; I will hold them back.”
“Alright,” Yun Chuanzhi answered without hesitation. She didn’t even check on Bai Fenghe, instead feeling her way along the wall to the window and painfully climbing through it.
Cheng Jinshu hurriedly felt around the floor for Bai Fenghe, hoisted her onto her shoulder, and flew out the window.
Just after they left, a blast of astral wind blew the door off its hinges. Ling Shui stood tall in the wind, only her hair and white skirt whipping about.
Dozens of death warriors clad in black combat gear burst into the room. Without a word, they attacked her vitals. Ling Shui blocked them with her whip and then slammed it against the floor, the powerful force shattering the tiles beneath her.
The floor of the entire room collapsed. The woman’s figure vanished along with the death warriors amidst the flying debris and dust.
On the other side, Cheng Jinshu carried Bai Fenghe, walking briskly behind Yun Chuanzhi.
The corridors of the great hall became increasingly winding. There were no windows further in, so the faint daylight that had leaked through earlier vanished. Only an inescapable darkness remained; the two of them could almost only identify their positions through spiritual sense.
However, Yun Chuanzhi currently had no spiritual power. Fortunately, Blackie was perched on her shoulder, constantly offering reminders.
“Master, turn left. Go straight. Turn right…”
Thud. Yun Chuanzhi walked straight into a wall. The pain brought tears to her eyes as she hissed through gritted teeth, “Wasn’t it a right turn?”
“Sorry, it’s too dark here; I can’t see very well either,” Blackie said softly.
If it were ordinary darkness, it would be one thing, but the darkness surrounding them was clearly not natural. It was so thick that even spiritual sense could barely extend a few inches. Cheng Jinshu was forced to stop and catch her breath.
“We aren’t going to die here, are we?” Cheng Jinshu asked.
“Who knows.” Yun Chuanzhi pursed her lips. Doubt lingered in her heart: Would a woman as devious as Bai Fenghe allow herself to fall into such a desperate situation?
She didn’t have much time to think, as Blackie began pulling frantically at her hair, sighing. “Master, those bad things are back.”
Once again, her body felt as if it had fallen into an ice cellar; even her meridians felt a bone-chilling cold. Cheng Jinshu, having a higher cultivation, suddenly reached out to pull her away, dodging an evil spirit that hissed past.
The stench of the evil spirit lingered at the tip of her nose. Yun Chuanzhi couldn’t see or touch them, and nearly had her heart pierced several times; she only kept her life thanks to Cheng Jinshu.
“This won’t do; it’s too dark. I can’t use my skills with just spiritual sense.” Cheng Jinshu paced in circles while carrying Bai Fenghe. “I suspect they are forcing us to light a flame just to give the Shadow Demon a chance to appear.”
Cheng Jinshu let out a furious cry, and light suddenly burst from her palms, forming a circle to ward off the evil spirits. However, there were dozens or even hundreds of times more evil spirits now than in the room before; they filled almost the entire hall, darting around frantically.
“I can’t hold out for long. Ergou, take Aunt and find a place to hide.” With the situation urgent, Cheng Jinshu stopped joking. She shifted her stance to defend, keeping all the evil spirits blocked in front of her.
“Though Aunt has done wicked things, she is still someone I once considered family. Cui Ergou, please protect her for me.”
Yun Chuanzhi didn’t speak. She glanced at Bai Fenghe leaning against the corner and sighed. “It’s not that I don’t want to. I am but a mere immortal servant; I can’t even lift her, so how am I to protect her?”
We might as well all die here together; it would be livelier, she thought.
But Cheng Jinshu was no longer listening. Spiritual energy poured relentlessly from her palms; the veins on the woman’s forehead stood out alongside her sweat as if she were on the verge of exhaustion.
“Hurry!” Cheng Jinshu hissed.
What a sin, Yun Chuanzhi thought. She squeezed her eyes shut, then rushed to Bai Fenghe’s side. She felt all over the woman’s body, her palms sliding around the soft, slender waist until she finally found the gourd-shaped glass bottle.
She pulled the stopper and poured the liquid into her mouth. The tears, filled with spiritual power, slid down her throat and into her body, sending a powerful warm current through her limbs.
As expected of the tears of a divine beast, the effects were miraculous. Yun Chuanzhi suddenly felt a surge of strength. She leaned down, hooked her arm under Bai Fenghe’s knees, and picked her up in a bridal carry.
The woman’s cheek rested softly against her shoulder, and the faint scent of soap lingering on the girl drifted into her nose.
Bai Fenghe’s eyelashes fluttered once more.
“Bai Fenghe, oh Bai Fenghe. See? There are still people in this world who care about you,” Yun Chuanzhi murmured to herself. She then held the woman tight in her arms and strode into the darkness.
She had run, but the situation was still a dead end. Yun Chuanzhi nearly slammed into the walls several times. Surrounded by infinite blackness, she soon began to lose her bearings.
“Ever since I came here and met you, I’m always stuck in these desperate situations,” Yun Chuanzhi muttered to herself as she ran around like a headless fly. “If it isn’t you trying to kill me, it’s others trying to kill me because of you.”
“If I make it out of this alive, I’m definitely going to put some laxatives in your bowl while you’re sleeping just to vent my anger.” Thinking Bai Fenghe was unconscious, Yun Chuanzhi spoke with increasing recklessness.
“Say that again.” A voice as thin as a thread sounded in her ear. Yun Chuanzhi tripped, nearly dropping the woman.
Fortunately, her palm was gripping Bai Fenghe’s clothing, and she desperately steadied herself, pulling her back.
“You’re awake? Since when?” Yun Chuanzhi was shocked.
There was no sound from her arms for a long time. Only after a while did she speak: “Since the laxative part.”
Fine, so she heard it. We might not make it out alive anyway; it’s not like she can execute me right here, Yun Chuanzhi comforted herself. Her courage grew, and she spoke without fear.
“It’s good that you’re awake. Does the Sect Leader have any strength left? Can you destroy that Shadow Demon later and lead us out?”
“Ling Shui and Cheng Jinshu both stayed behind to cover for you. Their fates are currently unknown.”
Bai Fenghe let out a low cough, her voice hoarse. “This Seat has always been weak, and now I’ve been poisoned by Senior Sister’s Lingbing Sword. My lungs were even invaded by evil spirits while I was healing. I might not even keep my life, so how am I to escape?”
“I think you should just put me down and go find those two to escape on your own.”
“This Seat has always been alone. Why do you need to pretend to risk your lives for me?” she sneered.
At those words, Yun Chuanzhi stopped in her tracks. Bai Fenghe jolted in her arms; she instinctively reached out to grab Yun Chuanzhi’s shoulder, but her fingertips stopped in mid-air.
In the boundless darkness, no one could see her fingers trembling.
“How can you just cast aside their kindness like that?” For once, Yun Chuanzhi’s emotions fluctuated, feeling the injustice on behalf of Ling Shui and Cheng Jinshu. “Though Ling Shui fears and respects you, she truly wishes to be your disciple. Though Cheng Jinshu knows of your past, she still treats you as her closest kin.”
“How can you say they are pretending?”
Bai Fenghe did not speak. Yun Chuanzhi bit her lip and set her on the ground. She took a step over her body and walked straight away into the dark, leaving Bai Fenghe lying there alone. There was no movement for a long time.
A cynical chuckle rang out in the silent corridor. Bai Fenghe stared into the void, but it was unclear who she was mocking.
Without the girl’s warmth, the ground felt cold, as if she had suddenly entered a grueling winter. Bone-chilling frost crawled through the cracks of the floor tiles, staining her thin clothing.
Countless evil spirits crawled along the walls toward her, surrounding her and emitting a jumbled, unpleasant chanting that was eerily hair-raising. An evil spirit flew up to pierce her chest; Bai Fenghe closed her eyes and did not struggle.
A hand was faster than the evil spirit. Faint spiritual power surged from that palm, pushing the spirit away just in time. The girl’s arm then brushed across her back again. Amidst a sudden wave of tingling numbness, Bai Fenghe’s body was once again held tight.
Blackie jumped off her shoulder to chase away the few remaining spirits. Yun Chuanzhi turned and ran while holding Bai Fenghe.
In the silent, infinite corridor, only the sound of Yun Chuanzhi’s heavy and frantic footsteps could be heard. After a long silence in her arms, Bai Fenghe finally spoke in a low voice: “Weren’t you just arguing for them? Why come back to hold me?”
“I promised the two of them. I, Cui Ergou, may not be a gentleman, but I keep my word,” Yun Chuanzhi answered in a muffled voice.
“And another thing. I know you’ve suspected my identity for a long time, but you don’t need to test me every single time, because I will never hurt you,” Yun Chuanzhi added.
The sentence was soft and slow. Though it was a statement, it sounded like a vow.
Bai Fenghe felt a flutter in her heartstrings.
