- The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL]
- Chapter 15 - It Could Be Something Else
On the lawn of the Yan family’s back garden, a group of young people were enjoying an outdoor party complete with a barbecue, red wine, desserts, beer, and a birthday cake.
Song Ziqing was munching on a grilled squid while holding a glass of beer. She couldn’t help but marvel at how popular Yan Hui was; over a hundred people filled the entire backyard. If it were her, she probably wouldn’t even be able to remember half the guests’ names, yet Yan Hui moved through the crowd with effortless grace, greeting everyone.
However, today’s birthday party had a bizarrely tense harmony due to the presence of a certain individual. It felt as if a war might break out at any second, leaving countless casualties.
That person was Lu Qinnian. She sat to one side, one hand in her pocket, holding a glass of red wine. Her expression was solemn as her gaze drifted aimlessly over the crowd.
Yan Hui shot her a look of regret. She really shouldn’t have provoked her by asking if she wanted to come.
“Hey, what’s actually going on?” A short-haired girl with a half-bun nudged Yan Hui with her elbow. “Aren’t you and the Lu family like fire and water? I can understand Song Ziqing coming, but even Lu Qinnian showed up. What’s the deal? Do you have some kind of dirt on her?”
Yan Hui shook her head and looked toward the other side of the garden, where Song Ziqing was ignoring everyone to focus purely on eating barbecue.
“Tsk… there’s something not quite right about that Song Ziqing.” The girl beside her raised an eyebrow.
“What do you mean?” Yan Hui asked.
“She’s too beautiful.”
Yan Hui gave her companion a look of disdain. Deep down, she also felt that Song Ziqing was excessively beautiful—sometimes looking innocent and pitiable, other times radiating a seductive charm. Occasionally, she even seemed more vibrant and moving than Lu Ge. But she wouldn’t go as far as to say there was something “wrong” with her.
“No, Sister Yan, trust me. My eyes have never failed me. I’m telling you, Song Ziqing might not even be an Omega.”
Yan Hui’s heart skipped a beat. This was Jiang Yutong speaking, a seasoned player known for navigating the hearts of all kinds of Omegas. Curious, Yan Hui asked, “How can you tell?”
“Instinct.” Jiang Yutong gave a mysterious wink. “The moment I see her, I want to have her. That is the natural instinct of an Alpha toward an Omega.”
Yan Hui froze for a second. Jiang Yutong laughed and shrugged. “Believe it or not, I’m definitely not the only one here with those thoughts. But everyone is just like me—wary of that person sitting over there. No one dares to approach her rashly.”
Yan Hui followed her gaze. Sure enough, Lu Qinnian was like a fierce hunting dog, sitting tall and guarding her prey. Even though they were far apart, Song Ziqing remained within her line of sight. Anyone thinking of approaching the girl would inevitably fall under that gaze, and that “vicious dog” stare was truly terrifying.
Yan Hui folded her arms, a smile playing in her eyes. “Cowards. Watch me.”
Yan Hui walked toward Song Ziqing with a slice of cake. Even this small gesture drew countless eyes, including Lu Qinnian’s.
Lu Qinnian sipped her wine, her eyes tracking Yan Hui’s movement. Her expression wasn’t exactly friendly; when she saw Yan Hui smiling and offering the cake to Song Ziqing, her brow furrowed.
Song Ziqing, busy flipping the barbecue, turned her head and craned her neck. She opened her mouth, signaling for the other woman to feed her.
Lu Qinnian’s expression stiffened. Is she trying to seduce Yan Hui to move against the Lu family?
Lu Qinnian set down her wine glass and hopped off her stool. She marched toward the two of them, her sharp features radiating an aggressive edge. Her eyes were as cold as if they had been dipped in ice.
Jiang Yutong watched the scene unfold with a grin, taking a large, aggressive bite of her own cake. “Just as expected. She’s definitely watching.”
Looking at Song Ziqing, who was waiting with an open mouth like a little rabbit begging for a snack, Yan Hui felt her heart skip a beat. Her features softened, and her heart felt as if it were melting; she obediently moved to feed her.
“It’s delicious! The sweetness is just right,” Song Ziqing praised happily, opening her mouth again.
Yan Hui dithered for a moment, a doting smile on her face as she prepared to feed her another bite, when suddenly the spoon was snatched from her hand.
Song Ziqing looked up to see Lu Qinnian holding the spoon. Lu Qinnian fed the dessert into her mouth, a faint, ill-intentioned smile on her face. “Is it sweet?”
Yan Hui finally snapped out of it, rolling her eyes in frustration. “Lu Qinnian, you have to snatch even this?”
Lu Qinnian glanced at her and took the plate of dessert from her hand. “I’ve been feeding her since we were kids. It’s more convenient for me.”
Yan Hui glared at her through gritted teeth, her voice carrying a forced, hollow smile. “So protective. Do you really treat her as your sister?”
“She isn’t my sister.” Lu Qinnian turned back and gave Yan Hui a remarkably “friendly” smile. “But she could be something else.”
